  1. Republicans do not want the CEO of Aflac who made 3.6 billion dollars last year, to pay any taxes

This is why Banana republics have communism
    1% rich 99% poor

  2. I’m a life-long conservative Republican supporting John McCain this year. I don’t even know the CEO of Aflac, much less his tax situation. I’m sure he and Aflac as a company pay much more in taxes than individuals who comment here. At any rate, on another subject, there was a President of the US who waged war without the consent of Congress, seized communication offices so communications were restricted and could be monitored, jailed individuals without trial or charge, and when the Chief Justice of the US ruled he had exceeded his authority, the President simply ignored him. The President was Abraham Lincoln. But then, he was a Republican too.

  3. With all due respect, you haven’t been too impressed by the links posted so far, and I’m sure all of us have tried to give you posts that are relevant and challenge conservative’s views, which would seem the kind of links you want, or just amusing stories we think you’ll like. I’m not really sure what kind of stories you want. Or are you really just curious?

  4. That said, the amount of time Vince and OL put into finding articles, and the link collecting they do, is impressive. Sometimes I wonder if the two of them wrote out their arguments ten years ago, and adjust slightly as needed. I’m impressed by the speed with which they find all of this stuff.

A typically mis-titled story from USAToday compares the Republican convention in St. Paul to the 2004 convention in NYC. The key stats are:

    NYC 500,000 protesters, 1800 arrests.

St. Paul: 50,000 protesters, 452 arrests.

This works out to St. Paul having 10% the number of protesters, but 25% of the arrests.

  6. “Sometimes I wonder if the two of them wrote out their arguments ten years ago…”

Somewhere there’s a research group taking care of all this. On their off-years, they sell term papers to college students.

  7. J, the CEO of Aflac should pay more in taxes, since he’s got a duty to reinvest in the country that allows him to make his billions. You seriously think he should pay the same taxes as someone who makes $30,000 a year?

Incidentally, you realize Lincoln did those things when states voted to secede from the Union and it was a time of civil war? Bush waged an illegal war, not on the perpetrator of 9/11, but against his father’s old nemesis, under dishonest auspices. Then, he began imposing the same edicts as Lincoln, but against all citizens of the U.S.

Lincoln also urged “malice toward none” and “charity for all”? How far the Republicans have strayed from those last two ideals.

Please don’t compare Bush to Lincoln. It sullies Lincoln’s legacy and just makes Bush look worse.

  8. Why are the Republicans saying that Obama is the ‘celebrity’ candidate and then mocking him about it? Seems only one party has nominated a Hollywood celebrity and he is treated like a god now.

  9. Oh, but wait– Fred Thompson was also a primary candidate, wasn’t he?

    He was only….ACTING!

  10. Fred is treated as he should be, with respect and admiration.

Unlike The Obamessiah, we don’t give our politicians the God treatment.

“Just seeing him on stage, I cried my eyelashes off.” -Oprah Winfrey

Yeah Oprah I cried too but likely not for the same reasons.

  11. So Fred Thompson is deserving of respect and admiration, but Obama is not. Typical remark.

  12. Gee Whiz Jenn.. Do you think that Oprah and others might have been just a little touched seeing a man with similar skin color as them accepting the nomination for President of the United States on the 45th anniversary of Dr. King’s “I have a dream speech” .. I sure was and I’m white as a fresh snow fall. This is a historic election year no matter who wins in novemeber.

  13. Lovely post GT – it’s a wonderful milestone for sure. Does anyone else think it’s funny to see more black Republicans lined up at Fox to tear down Obama than dark faces as the Republican convention?
