ADN: Palin Stonewalling On Troopergate
The Anchorage Daily News says Sarah Palin is “taking the wrong approach” on the investigation into whether she had a state trooper fired because of a personal vendetta, adding that she is not “practicing the kind of “open and transparent, ethical and accountable government she promised when running for governor and boasts about now that she’s on the national stage.”
The allegations are that she, her family or administration improperly pressured then-Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan to fire Gov. Palin’s ex-brother-in-law, state trooper Mike Wooten, who had been in the middle of a custody dispute with Palin’s sister.
When Monegan refused to carry out the firing, he was dismissed.
In July, when legislators started talking about conducting an investigation, Palin denied any wrongdoing and said she welcomed an investigation.
“Hold me accountable,” she said.
Now that she is a national candidate, Palin’s lawyer has asked the state legislature to drop its investigation, and Palin filed an ethics complaint against herself in an attempt to take it away from the legislature and put it in the hands of an independent investigator.
This is not an open and transparent attempt to establish Gov. Palin’s accountability. It is an attempt to drag out the investigation until after voters decide the fate of her vice-presidential bid.
Instead, Gov. Palin should honor her pledge to cooperate with the Legislature’s investigation, conducted by former state prosecutor Steve Branchflower.
The legislature’s investigation is supposed to be completed by October 31. If Palin is successful in delaying it, even by a week, the results won’t interfere with the election.
Newsweek is reporting that the McCain camp has approved an attempt by John Coghill, the Republican chairman of Alaska’s House Rules Committee to remove Democrat Hillis French, the Democratic state senator in charge of the investigation.
French…has hired a special counsel to determine, in effect, whether Palin “used her public office to settle a private score,” he recently said. He has also suggested that the probe may turn up evidence that state laws were violated by Palin’s aides because they pulled confidential personnel files on the trooper.
But Coghill, who told NEWSWEEK that he has the backing of Republican Speaker of the House John Harris in his effort to remove French, suggested Friday that the investigation into Palin’s firing of Monegan should be shut down entirely.
McCain’s team has approved the removal of French from the investigation while claiming the whole thing has become too partisan. And, Todd Palin is hiring his own attorney to fight charges that he improperly intervened by asking Monegan to come to the governor’s office so he could ask him to investigate Wooten’s status on the state police force. The issues here are judgment, credibility and honesty.
When the “troopergate” story broke over the summer, Palin adamantly denied that anybody in her administration exerted any pressure on Monegan to fire Wooten. But only weeks later, a tape recording surfaced in which another one of her top aides, Frank Bailey, was heard telling a police lieutenant, “Todd and Sarah are scratching their heads, ‘Why on earth hasn’t this, why is this guy [Wooten] still representing the department?’”

Hmm. Not once do you mention the allegations against the trooper. Why is that, Alan?
You’re a liar and a smear merchant. That’s why.
September 7th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Yeh, another example of Alan’s “fair and balanced” reporting? Nice try, Alan.
September 7th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
Mister Smith,
You are right he only mentions pieces of things…good for you Mr. Smith. Alan that is old news can’t you find anything else to write about than Sarah Palin? You write about her more than anyone else. Well I mean you smear her more than anyone else. Maybe you need to dig into Biden’s background ya think? There are lots of things and you never mention them.
September 7th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
If anything turns up on Joe Biden, you can be rest assured the press will be all over him. Unfortunately, they have nothing.
September 7th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
TDRO,
Don’t be to sure of that!
September 7th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
…some people just don’t like their ‘Pitbull” being picked on. Put some lipstick on it and let her loose…oh right, they don’t want her to do talk shows or be asked questions. Wonder why the Repubs won’t let a pitbull defend herself?
September 7th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
I think that This pick is just one more example of McCain’s poor judgement and recklessness.
This was just a panic, knee jerk reaction to Obama’s speech.
They didn’t know what a disaster she was because they didn’t vet her.
September 7th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Budda,
She is going on meet the press next week. Your a little behind on the news.
September 7th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
OldLefty,
How do you know they didn’t vet her? Do you have some inside information? Come on let us all know who your talking to.
September 7th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I thinkn all of Biden’s offspring were arrested over the course of the past week… obvious you didn’t know about it.

Gallup Poll just came out. McCain 48% Obama 45% with 2% margin of error.
September 7th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
If the troop has problems isn’t the point.
There are civil service procedures for dismissal.
That a sitting Governor has her staff or family pressure the head of the Public Safety Commission IS the reason for the investigation.
Palin will fit right in with the Bush agenda.
She’s secretive, intolerant, vindictive and heavy handed. Let’s not forget a does of arrogance too!

To add to the potential confusion, among the larger sample of registered voters in the above poll, Obama was ahead, 47% to 44%.
The updated tracking poll, which averaged the results of surveys conducted Saturday, Sunday and Monday, gave Obama a 6-percentage-point advantage, 47% to 41%

Palin and her family have accused Wooten, who was involved in a messy divorce with the governor’s sister, of a variety of misdeeds such as threatening her family and drinking while driving his patrol car. Palin insists she didn’t use the trooper’s continued employment as an excuse to fire a member of her cabinet, Walt Monegan, who supervised the troopers as commissioner of public safety.
September 7th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
i think palin is lying. she did fire him for that reason.
September 7th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
What ever you want to believe is just fine with me. I wonder what you people did before you had Sarah Palin to slam? Maybe you were doing it to another woman Hillary? That is all you know how to do is go after women. The women in this country are going to elect the next president Democratic or Republican.
September 7th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
WORKING MOM
We all know about Biden’s and McCain’s backgrounds. Alan is not digging into either’s background, nor Clinton’s background for that matter. We want to know about Sarah Plain’s background, and now, there is not much time left, a woman, a person, who might not only be the next VP, but possibly our next president. That’s why Alan writes about her. GET IT!
September 7th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Isn’t it just scandalous that a governor would expect a state trooper who tasered an 11-year old to be fired? (For the dimwitted among you, the rather obvious answer is “No.”)
September 7th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
rigano,

September 7th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
well, then why doesn’t palin just say she fired the guy because he wouldn’t fire the state trooper….if it was the correct decision?
September 7th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
I think its incredible that Palin rants on about govt spending then uses her postition to try to get govt paid employees to fight her trailer-trash family feuds. Those govt employees are not her personal servants – they are servants of the people of Alaska who pay their salaries. This whole Palin scandal is looking more and more like the Beverly Hillbillies every day.
September 7th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
yap, mccain made a great choice. what great judgment.
mccain is doin a heckuva job.
September 7th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
scottsoperson,
Her brother in law tasered a 11 year old boy. You tell me he belongs in the police department? I think not. How would you feel if he tassered your 11 year old?
September 7th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
mccain says honesty doesn’t matter.
palin says it depends on the definition of pressure.
September 7th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
how do you know he tasered an 11-year-old boy? what was the 11 year old boy doing?
police taser kids and oldsters all the time and they don’t get fired.
September 7th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
these divorce things can get ugly. accusations fly all over the place. people even lie under oath.
but if palin made the right decision then she should be honest about it.
it’s question of her honesty.

Barack and Michelle operate a camp to train Communists:
Michelle’s Boot Camps For Radicals
Election ‘08: Democrats’ reintroduction of militant Michelle Obama in Denver was supposed to show her softer side. But it only highlighted a radical part of her resume: Public Allies
Barack Obama was a founding member of the board of Public Allies in 1992, resigning before his wife became executive director of the Chicago chapter of Public Allies in 1993. Obama plans to use the nonprofit group, which he features on his campaign Web site, as the model for a national service corps. He calls his Orwellian program, “Universal Voluntary Public Service.”
Big Brother had nothing on the Obamas. They plan to herd American youth into government-funded reeducation camps where they’ll be brainwashed into thinking America is a racist, oppressive place in need of “social change.”
The pitch Public Allies makes on its Web site doesn’t seem all that radical. It promises to place young adults (18-30) in paid one-year “community leadership” positions with nonprofit or government agencies. They’ll also be required to attend weekly training workshops and three retreats.
In exchange, they’ll get a monthly stipend of up to $1,800, plus paid health and child care. They also get a post-service education award of $4,725 that can be used to pay off past student loans or fund future education.
But its real mission is to radicalize American youth and use them to bring about “social change” through threats, pressure, tension and confrontation — the tactics used by the father of community organizing, Saul “The Red” Alinsky.
“Our alumni are more than twice as likely as 18-34 year olds to . . . engage in protest activities,” Public Allies boasts in a document found with its tax filings. It has already deployed an army of 2,200 community organizers like Obama to agitate for “justice” and “equality” in his hometown of Chicago and other U.S. cities, including Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, New York, Phoenix, Pittsburgh and Washington. “I get to practice being an activist,” and get paid for it, gushed Cincinnati recruit Amy Vincent.
Public Allies promotes “diversity and inclusion,” a program paper says. More than 70% of its recruits are “people of color.” When they’re not protesting, they’re staffing AIDS clinics, handing out condoms, bailing criminals out of jail and helping illegal aliens and the homeless obtain food stamps and other welfare.
Public Allies brags that more than 80% of graduates have continued working in nonprofit or government jobs. It’s training the “next generation of nonprofit leaders” — future “social entrepreneurs.”
The Obamas discourage work in the private sector. “Don’t go into corporate America,” Michelle has exhorted youth. “Work for the community. Be social workers.” Shun the “money culture,” Barack added. “Individual salvation depends on collective salvation.”
“If you commit to serving your community,” he pledged in his Denver acceptance speech, “we will make sure you can afford a college education.” So, go through government to go to college, and then go back into government.
Many of today’s youth find the pitch attractive. “I may spend the rest of my life trying to create social movement,” said Brian Coovert of the Cincinnati chapter. “There is always going to be work to do. Until we have a perfect country, I’ll have a job.”
Not all the recruits appreciate the PC indoctrination. “It was too touchy-feely,” said Nelly Nieblas, 29, of the 2005 Los Angeles class. “It’s a lot of talk about race, a lot of talk about sexism, a lot of talk about homophobia, talk about -isms and phobias.”
One of those -isms is “heterosexism,” which a Public Allies training seminar in Chicago describes as a negative byproduct of “capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy and male-dominated privilege.”
The government now funds about half of Public Allies’ expenses through Clinton’s AmeriCorps. Obama wants to fully fund it and expand it into a national program that some see costing $500 billion. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the military, he said.
The gall of it: The Obamas want to create a boot camp for radicals who hate the military — and stick American taxpayers with the bill.
======================
Obama should be thrown in jail for sedition.

September 7th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
His and her professional lives crossed again when Barack recommended Michelle to head up the new Chicago office of Public Allies, a leadership training group for young adults. He was a former board member.
Michelle Obama was a mentor to many of the young staff and created the organization’s professional template, according to Public Allies’ CEO Paul Schmitz.
“The mission of the organization was to identify and develop this next generation of nonprofit and community leaders. And Michelle interpreted that as trying to really find the people with the greatest passion for making a difference in their communities, regardless of their background — and helping turn that passion into a viable career path,” Schmitz says. “And so that’s a model that she really solidified for us that we’ve kept to this day — this belief that leadership has to come from all parts of the community.”

Hillary Clinton would have been a great president, I agree. And from what I understand, if elected Obama will give her a very prestigious position.
But voting for someone simply because she’s a woman makes no sense. She has a pretty questionable background and if you look at how she ran the town of Wasilla as mayor, she sounds a lot like Dick Cheney. And the last thing we need is another Dick Cheney.

ENGLEWOOD IS EYED FOR BOTANICAL GARDEN
Chicago Tribune. Chicago, Ill.: Jan 15, 2000. pg. 5
A group of politicians, school administrators and community activists unveiled a plan Friday for a $1.1 million botanical garden in the city’s Englewood neighborhood.
The proposal calls for a walk beneath the “L” tracks on Princeton Avenue, from 59th Place to 62nd Place. Backers said they hope it will help spur redevelopment in the impoverished area, boost neighborhood pride and soften the impact of traffic and pollution from the nearby Dan Ryan Expressway.
State Sen. Barack Obama (D-Chicago) said he planned to seek state funding for the effort and estimated that ground could be broken in early 2001.
The proposed garden also would include a gazebo, a parrot sanctuary and a walk of fame.
Obama’s $100,000 garden grant wasted
He vowed to ‘work tirelessly’ to build an oasis for Englewood. It never happened.
July 11, 2008
As a state senator, Barack Obama gave $100,000 in state money to a campaign volunteer who failed to deliver on a plan to create a botanic garden in one of Chicago’s most blighted neighborhoods.
….. what was supposed to be a six-block stretch of trees and paths is now a field of unfulfilled dreams, strewn with weeds, garbage and broken pavement.
Kenny B. Smith, whose nonprofit group got the money, said it was spent legitimately, mostly on underground site preparation. But he admitted Thursday that the garden is a lost cause because other government money never came through.
….. Smith — an early Obama supporter who gave $550 to his state and congressional campaigns — said he gave his paperwork documenting the work to a state agency and no longer has it.
….. a reporter walked the site last week with a landscape architect from the Illinois Green Industry Association who found no evidence of the work Smith cited. The only major changes since 2000: A gazebo was added, and some trees were cut down.
Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, said through a spokesman he wasn’t responsible for monitoring the work; the staffs of Gov. Blagojevich and former Gov. George Ryan were.
….. In 2001, at Obama’s direction, a $100,000 Illinois FIRST grant went to Smith’s group. The garden site was part of Rosewood Estates, an affordable-housing development being built by the group, whose unpaid board chairman was Brian Washington, a Sun-Times security guard.
Plans called for more than 50 homes, but only a dozen were built, Smith said.
The remaining $1 million for the botanic garden was never raised.

AND, on top of that the white haired DUDE couldn’t remember how many houses he had, And was literally left speechless with the Viagra question. MAYBE HE was afraid HIS insurance company would stop payin for it!!
September 8th, 2008 at 1:40 am
Susan: If you think I was paying you a compliment, you are wrong.
Senator McCain couldn’t remember how many house he had because investments made by brokers sometimes include houses and property. Many people don’t know all of their investments.
But, at least, I he does know that there aren’t 57 states. That’s elementary school stuff.
The ’soap opera’ is being put on by the Democrats. Most, if not all, of the lies, & ethical quandries, have been defunked. Teenage pregnancies happen in many, many families. I don’t think Democrats want to make lies or ethical quandries an issue because that would certainly expand this ’soap opera’ to include Barak and Michelle Obama and several of their close friends.
And if Governor Sarah Palin & John McCain is ‘trailer trash’, what does that make you? You can always tell when Libs get scared .. the name calling comes out.

mickey: I wasn’t looking for a compliment. you have it totally wrong, i’am not voting for ANYONE until there is someone worth voting for, and in this election cycle it’s very evident it’s not happening! I’am merely sitting back playing the devil’s advocate,at least i can still find humor in the current situation and hope for for better times ahead.if you take notice i haven’t said anything positive about senator obama.don’t be so angry and defensive, laugh it’s good for your mental health.oh, i should have put ” around trailer trash as it was a quote from an earlier post, referring to sp’s family “troopergate” family feud, in no way did it reference the white haired dude.humor and satire are very difficult for some people to grasp because it can be confused with reality.and believe me political campaigns are located in the twilight zone.oh the correct word is debunked.laugh, smile, and make happy!!

now mickey don’t get upset! just heard on tv that sp’s church member speak in tongues. i thought that what all politicians did! also they believe that alaska will be a haven at the end of the world, count me out i prefer palm trees, the’re such HAPPY trees!!!
September 8th, 2008 at 9:23 am
As if America hasn’t been embarrassed enough by the Bush administration.
If McCain / Palin gets in, we’ll be the laughing stock of the world.
For how long are we going to make a complete ASS out of this country?
I can just hear people in other countries now – “you mean even after Bush/Cheney, they elected some old half-demented man and this stupid trashy woman”.
September 8th, 2008 at 9:44 am
Susan,
Where did you hear that they speak in tongues – that would be interesting if true.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:31 am
um cara,it was on tv this morning, giving a discription of the pentecostal church she attends and their beliefs etc.also that alaska would remain at the end of the world as a haven for the people who were left. as i stated i thought it was only politicians that spoke in tongues.re:mickey’s comment, maybe brokers also speak in tongues that’s why their clients don’t know where their investments are. everyone i know knows where ALL their investments are!!
September 8th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
I’d be a lot more comfortable with her ability to lead if she had been in a POW camp for 5 years.
September 8th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
Alan Colmes you just don’t get it do you? Because of liberalism and the attempts by those like you America is now teetering on the brink of destruction of values. And no it’s not because of the same old “blame Bush, he did it” nonsense either. It has been many years of both immoral and indecent proposals and subsequent actions that has taken root and simply ruined our way of life. Our teens are bombarded with garbage from the schools (including young adults at universities)and then from the media on TV and the web after school. The thought patterns are twisted and perverse and now we sit back and wonder why young people have fallen behind in math and science when compared to other countries. Ask a young person who the VP is and they don’t know. How can this be Alan? Now Dems are saying that thanks to the Bush admin. our kids have fallen behind? Seems to me libs had taken over the education system many years ago and way before Bush and as a result the education institution in this country, for the most part, are dismal failures.
Then there is Political Correctness created by the Clintons and its based on nothing more than appeasement in an attempt to not to offend anyone? How weak is that? Can you say Islamic terrorism Alan or is that too offensive? No Bush didn’t create any more terrorists Alan. These people have an ultimatum for us; “convert to Islam or die!” Now what part of that don’t you get Alan? We are Americans and we are strong and stand up to fight for what is right and now especially when our heritage is at stake. Thanks to those libs like you our culture is being ruined for fear of offending others; like illegal aliens is it? Wait Alan I know, they have feelings. This country was a great melting pot. But that was when people entered this country legally. They are the ones who built this country. We owe illegal’s nothing including American rights under “OUR” Constitution but especially their supposed rights to alleged lands lost in war. However thanks to the weak stance of liberalism a land deal with illegal Mexicans is now being considered because of NAFTA and this New World Order crap. Great job Alan.
Now, and again thanks to liberalism, animals have the same rights as humans. Being cruel to animals is wrong however that isn’t good enough. Here’s a fine example; thanks to libs underbrush wasn’t removed for fear of disturbing little animals only to have the underbrush catch fire, burn our homes causing billions in damages only to find out that the little animals hauled ass at the first smell of smoke!
Yet again liberalism marches on. Don’t blame Bush for the current fuel crisis with high prices. No Alan blame yourselves for not allowing drilling to go on in various places due to…once again…animals. Now “We The People” are again paying for liberalism. Again nice job Alan.
When I watch Hannity and you Alan I often wish just one of your guests would backhand you out of your chair when you start in with your wise ass, sarcastic comments and remarks. I once complained about the Clinton lying about sex with Lewinski as it didn’t have to do with the sex act)s) in question but rather lying in itself. And for the next 4 nights you managed to make mention of that on air and in a mocking way. Real adult of you indeed.
America is lost and divided. Divided NOT by the Bush Admin. Oh no. It is divided by the left and it started years ago when Daschle and Gephardt began referring to Bush as a “miserable failure.” Then following was a constant barrage of attacks; political and personal and all to defame and discredit. That is what divided us period.
Let me ask you two questions Alan Colmes. Since the present Congress has “taken back America” what have they accomplished? In almost 3 years they have accomplished zip, nada, zilch, zero. No that is NOT Bushs fault either. Question 2; how can those of you on the left call President Bush a “miserable failure” when your own performance is a miserable failure. The lowest approval numbers in the history of this country proves that beyond reasonable doubt yet you continue to point the fingers of blame.
In closing let me say that Senator(?) Harry Reid is representative of the leftist Dems in this when he stated that the war is lost. So representative of the cheese eating surrender monkeys that liberalism has created. If we are attacked and fighting ensues in the streets, libs and many Dems will be totally and absolutely useless. So why were they voted in America? Pelosi? A joke. Durbin? A clown. Kennedy? Another useless gas bag akin to Murtha. Boxer? Right. Schumer? Fool. What a colossal joke libs have turned the Dem party into! You must be so proud Alan, so proud.

Fedup:
Perfect. Good job.
September 8th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Dear FedUp,
Dad, I know this is you. You’ve clearly been at the Jamieson’s again (when’s mom getting back from Europe, anyway?).
Please stop it or the FBI will come around again, asking questions about militias and supremacists and such. Or at least let me call your buddy, Bob Barr, and he can talk you back under the rock.
I know you’re a hater, but I love you anyway.

Fedup,
re “Don’t blame Bush for the current fuel crisis with high prices. No Alan blame yourselves for not allowing drilling to go on in various places due to…once again…animals.”
Nope, about 40% of the rise in the price of oil (and other commodities) is due to the devaluation of the $$$ which causes an increase in dollar based commodities (such as oil)
The devaluation of the dollar can be directly attributed to Bush’s monetary policy, not ‘liberals’. We liberals are too busy killing babies and marrying horses (to mention a couple of the acts ‘liberals’ have been accused of doing/wanting to do on this blog in the past couple of days) to have time to run up the price of oil.

Who cares what the trooper did or didn’t do? The important questions are:
1. Whether Sarah Palin is a tiny-minded, vindictive, opportunistic liar and hypocrite
2. Whether she would make anyone’s top 1,000 most-qualified-to-be-president list
She clearly misuses authority at the drop of a hat… firing the Wassila librarian and Police Chief because they didn’t vote for her… firing the Safety Commissioner because he wouldn’t fire her sister’s ex, dropping such vital information as that the guy used his police car to pick up his kids from school! Suspending and disciplining the underling patsy who phoned the troopers’ office to put pressure on the Commissioner ON HER BEHALF.
The whole amniotic fluid/crazy flight to Alaska saga still looks like it was either an attempt to cover for the daughter giving birth (watch for Bristol to have a heartbreaking miscarriage brought on by nasty journalists/Democrats any day now) or a last desperate attempt to kill her DS kid in a Fundie Abortion kinda way.
She sat in church for x years while her poisonous pastor said Bush was God’s appointee and that Kerry voters would be going to hell.
She supported the crooked Repubs until she had enough ammo to topple them and take their place – a whistleblower with an agenda?
September 8th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Spiny Norman: You are the tiny-minded, vindictive, opportunistic liar and hypocrite. Otherwise, you would have to admit that Obama would not make that top 1,000 person list either. Your entire post is exactly that .. lies. And MOST people do care what the trooper did. The only ones that don’t are far left nuts like you.
Most Democrats, Republicans, and Independents are good people that really believe what they believe when it comes to the issues. Far Left nuts and far right nuts are just useless annoyances that get in the way of the actual issues.
You, and the rests of your numnut buddies need to get a clue. SARAH PALIN IS NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT. But she sure has all of you running SCARED.

Mickey,
The only thing I am scared of is that if McCain wins, and god forbid, something should happen to McCain, we would have a book banning, creationist teaching, far, far, far right wing president Palin.
September 9th, 2008 at 12:51 am
Um Cara: First of all, Gov Palin is not, by any means, a far right wing person. As for the book banning and creationist teaching go here:
http://fightthepalinsmears.com/smears/
September 9th, 2008 at 12:58 am
Mickey,
Specifically,
Palin believes in creationism (McCain believes in evolution). As a candidate for governor she called for the teaching of creationism in public schools. As a governor she did not try to implement it.
Should she somehow become president, I fear she would return to her idea of bringing Sunday school into the classroom she championed when running for governor (not so long ago, we are talking 2006). If you and whoever run that website you gave the link to aren’t worried about it, good for you. But it is not a smear to highlight her position, or to be concerned about it. If you don’t think it poor judgment to want to supplement science with religion, then we disagree.
