McCain: Palin’s National Security Experience Is Knowing About Energy

September 11th, 2008, 9:17 PM EDT

John McCain got some hard questions about his running mate from Rob Caldwell of WCSH in Portland, Maine.

Caldwell: You say you’re sure she has experience, but again I’m just asking for an example. What experience does she have in the field of national security?

McCain: Energy. She knows more about energy than probably anyone else in the United States of America…She happens to also represent the governor of a state that’s right next to Russia.  She understand Russia and their really aggressive behavior in the world which is also something to be very concerned about.

McCain also says Palin “was right on Iraq” and Obama was not.  However, besides saying, “I really wasn’t focused on much on the war in Iraq,” to Texas Business Monthly, she also said, “I want to know that we have an exit plan in place.”  l guess that means that Palin was right, and McCain and Bush were wrong.

  1. The silly old fool has abandoned any kind of connection to the real world with his choice of this vile woman. She knows nothing but how to take personal advantage of everything she can and cover it all up with a veneer of hokey piety. He is now going to lie through his teeth ten times a day to justify this cynical, unjustifiable choice.

Not a very dignified way to end a long and mostly honourable career in the senate.

  2. Mr Magoo has the chance to be president and it scares the hell out of me!

  3. “She knows more about energy than probably anyone else in the United States of America.”

The only way this makes any sense is if John McCain knows nothing about anything, and therefore everyone who is NOT John McCain must be an expert.

  7. God, that was so embarrassing I almost felt sorry for the man.

All this she was right, he was wrong baloney. Why is he speaking about Iraq and Iran in the past tense. These are ongoing issues and nothing has been resolved. How can you be wrong or right on a problem when the solution has yet to be found?

And now not only is Sarah Palin a foreign policy guru because she lives next to the arctic circle, but also the US’s foremost expert on energy.

I wonder what all those thousands of nuclear physicists, renewable power engineers, geothermal specialists and chief geologists etc think about the news!

Will these lies every end or will Mac the Strife just keep making them bigger and bigger. Next thing you know she’ll be our foremost expert on space travel or Marine biology or International finance.

And there was me thinking she was just a plain old hockey mom

  8. If “energy” means “full of hot air”, then Palin knows more about energy than anyone else in the US.

  9. Who is ever ready to be President or VP? No one knows what disasters or issues will occur in their terms! But if we elect someone who has integrity, who makes firm decisions and does not get tossed about by the “waves of popularity” and whose decisions are best for THIS country’s safety and security without regard to world popularity–that’s what makes a president ready! Character Counts!!

  10. I agree Pam. Character definitely counts. But it shouldn’t be the one prerequisite. Statesmanship, diplomacy, vision, the ability to compromise, intelligence, the ability to inspire etc etc would all be useful too.

As for making this country safer without regards to what the rest of the world thinks, surely those two things go hand in hand? If we are more popular in the world, we are safer.

I’ve just come back from the UK and I’m sorry to say that even the Brits are far less enthusiastic about us Americans that at any time I’ve ever know. It’s real sad what Mr Bush has done to our reputation around the world. And I’m afraid Mr Mac and Mrs Palin promise more of the same.

  11. i just can’t believe that any SANE individual would make a statement that they know anything about russian foreign policy because you can see it from alaska!!!!! can ANYONE out there explain that to me??sorry integrity isn’t all anyone needs for this position, not in this complicated world, a little knowledge would help!also, firm decisions have to be the RIGHT decision, based on knowledge.and who in this day and age can’t send an email? it’s evidence of the same lack of curiosity exhibited by bush.

  12. Pam: “Who is ever ready to be President or VP? No one knows what disasters or issues will occur in their terms! OMG! What an epitaph for the dying administration of G.W. Bush. You’re right though:

    1) Bush was totally unprepared.
    2) He appeared to have integrity.
    3) He was immovable in making firm decisions before he had all the facts and information.
    4) He didn’t give a tinker’s dam what anyone thought, including the party that elected him. How’s THAT for not wanting to ride the waves of popularity!
    5) He didn’t give a tinker’s dam for diplomacy, world opinion, or the Constitutional rights of all Americans, and has subjected us all to scrutiny in the name of “safety and security.”

According to your criteria, George Bush had all the makings of a fabulous president– IS a fabulous president!

And since McCain promises more of the same, backed up by a 95% voting record in lockstep with Bush’s, you’ll have to excuse me while I nip out to vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

  13. Do you really believe us small town people are really that ignorant. Let’s see you produce the Bush doctrine in writing as a true doctrine.

There are only 5000 in my little town of Manheim Pa. Should I tell them how stupid you think weare?

  14. What do you want to wager Obama’s voting record with Bush is the same?
