I believe there’s a button on the tv that either turns the channel or turns the tv off. I’m not quite sure which one that is but I’ve heard tell of it. Wow! The evangelical conservative right is sounding a little desperate. It is almost pathetic, watching those with long held, heartfelt, beliefs being confronted over their contradictions with rationality. Actually, it is quite an interesting anthropological exercise in exposing maladaptive behavior. Keep it up Alan. Perhaps they too, will learn as much about themselves as others have. I think not, but there is always hope.

It’s pretty telling that there’s nothing substantive in their criticism. That’s how you USUALLY can tell the difference between someone who is liberal and someone who is conservative – even though it shouldn’t be that way.
Liberals tend to debate in a systematic, fact-based way. Conservatives, or at least the ones who populate the Internet and talk radio, are all about the personal attack, radical association, condescension and generally baseless and undeserved criticism…

Hannity gets equal amounts of hatred from the left. It just proves that there haters on both ends of the political spectrum. Hatred knows no political boundaries.
That’s why I’m conservative as can be and I love Alan so much. He disagrees without being disagreeable. His ideas often irritate me, but he presents them in a palatable fashion, and usually in a humorous way. Makes persuasive arguments (sometimes).

Personally I find the emails to Alan incredibly offensive and I agree with perilously few of his views. I know I’ll get blasted by fellow conservatives but I’ve had a bad day so I’m going to say it anyway.
I am sick and tired of reading emails and blog entries where people interject God and Jesus and Christian faith in the same sentence where they are proclaiming their hatred for another human being. God forgive me for passing judgment here – but do you even bother to show love to anyone who doesn’t think like you? Before you try to remove the spec from Alan’s eye please remove the plank from your own eye. And remember… They’ll know you are Christians by your LOVE… not by holier than thou hatred! You can stand up for your beliefs without being hateful!

Never mind about the homosexual stuff – there are passages in the new testament that people use as proof that God doesn’t like homosexuality (and then there are whole groups of people interpreting those passages differently to say God is talking about pimps, prostitutes, and such – not consenting adults who happen to be attracted to others of the same sex)
I knew it couldn’t be that easy, none of this Bible or Koran or Torah stuff is. I guess we should just let the folks who believe in whatever given faith interpret their own holy books.

my understanding is this, and I am not a biblical scholar, teacher, expert, etc.
The sins are still sins (adultery, murder, etc. etc) (some argue if it isn’t a commandment it is okay)
The messages in the New Testament are focused more on repentance and redemption rather than US judging our fellow man/carrying out the punishment (stoning, cutting off hands, etc)
I know what my personal beliefs are, but I can’t be someone’s judge.

I am not a scholar of the Bible, but it seems Christ didn’t specifically address it (although “You shall love your neighbor as yourself–there is no commandment greater than this” seems pretty clear). Homosexuality as sin reappears in the Letters of Paul. But, as you mention, he’s really writing about it as a form of sex outside marriage, or adultry. I guess if we just let homosexual partners marry, everything would be good. :)

There are so many previous posters I agree with, but I especially agree with the one who let you know your order on the totem pole…without Sean, (a truly great American) no one would even know your name, except for maybe the bullies who used to take your lunch money in school.

People who criticize Christians for being narrow-minded are some of the first to immediately be narrow-minded about a pluralistic religious view.
“Every religion is true!” or “Every religion is false!” Isn’t that narrow-minded? Stop foisting your beliefs on me!

Alan please stop. I love your show and watch it every night but enough. You just had member’s of the Senate come out in what looked to be a bi-partisan manor and congratulate each other and themselves. Maybe it is good maybe it won’t be but it is all we have. I am a real estate appraiser of 30 years and can tell you about the lending problems and Freddie/Fannie. I am sitting here with a son in a mental hospital, a father dying and no work. Do you think I am happy with any member of this Congress or the Administration? No I am not. But I love this Country and I am willing to get another job for awhile if I must. I can not even afford the gas to go see my son at the hospital or see my father in his last days. Then I turn Fox on to watch you show and you couldn’t just for once stop the theatrics and be positive. Sometimes you and Hannity go on and on adnaseaum. Greta nor Neil have great shows and neither go on the attack like you did tonight. I am rambling because I just do not know what to say. Right now I have nothing positive in my life so PLEASE try to just stop with the drama. Let this legislation be voted on, stop the blame game and just say “wow they did it”. The news media including Fox is becoming responsible for the lack of confidence in our system. Republican or Democrat it simply doesn’t matter at this moment. We are American’s first and I am sure that you love this country as much as I do. You are very good at what you do but lately you are preforming in a manner that holds no integrity. Let Shaun be the creepie bullie he does it well. Even the Fox contributor’s have been saying to you ” Stop Alan, wait a min Alan, No Alan etc.” You really need to pay attention to what the people who love your show have to say. It is time for the hate attitude and talk to stop. Be the bigger person. Sorry for going on so long but I am passionate about this because I don’t want to stop listening or watching you. Thanks, Jacqueline BTW I am the niece of Jack F. the man who you had on your show who had been a hostage of Saddam Hussein’s in Baghdad, in Oct of 1990. He was an ironworker/heavy equipment supervisor. He died 3 days after he was awarded the money from Saddam’s account. He never got to enjoy on day of peace and fun. He did your show twice and then remained in a care home until his death caused by Diabetes. Well thanks for reading this if you do and continued success to you.

I’m not “foisting” on you or anyone else. Believe what you wish. God does not force himself on anyone. He gave you the gift of free will (freedom to choose). He does say however, that he will ignore those who ignore him. So if, or when your life is miserable, or unmanageable, don’t blame him. It’s your choice, and always will be so stop your whining.

Dear Alan, I was both shocked and amused while reading the current representative of the hate mail you receive. I know you must be a strong person not only to endure these insults but then to post them on your site. Thank God for you, Alan, and for the liberal principles you support. I am always glad to see you respond to conservatives and to Hannity’s inanities on your show. What amazes me the most is that you manage to maintain civility, you, a godless pagan in the eyes of the right, while your detractors, who profess to be Christian, spew hateful epithets and profanity. It seems to me that religion should bring peoples together; however, the direct opposite seems to be true. There are more wars in the name of religion than anything else. This country was founded to avoid religious persecution; however,those ideals seem to also have fallen by the wayside. Even Christians persecute other’s Christian beliefs.

Cameron E. Rhoads, Fort Worth: Read your letter to the editor in the Dallas Ft. Worth Newspaper. I am amazed they published your message of hate against minority groups. There is a civil uprising coming Mr. Rhoads, no disrespect to you, Gay is the new Black. Our rights have been trampled on for 5,000 years. You should study your precious Bible more. In there you will find, Men taking slave wives (many) wives as well as good looking young men as wives. It’s historically correct. People like you have been hiding behind your little book and changing the rules over thousands of years, until you have a version that suits your political gain. You are a sad man and need therapy and need to study History and Theology more before getting on your Blow Horn and spouting off, dear man. I am worried for you. Were you around for the Black Civil Rights Movement – Did you have as much hate for them too? Need a reference point – for you down in Texas that was 68-69 until they had rights in your state.
