Right-Wing Talking Point Of The Day: How Dare Gwen Ifill Moderate VP Debate!
PBS broadcaster Gwen Ifill will moderate Thursday night’s debate, but the right wing has decided the fix is in because she has a book coming out on Inauguration Day, The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama. The book focuses on black public figures Obama, Alabama Congressman Artur Davis, Colin Powell, Newark Mayor Corey Booker and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.
Jossip puts in in perspective:
[The Book] is a thought exercise on the “black political structure” of the civil rights movement, and outlines how that struggle led to today, where we’re moving toward racial equality. Of course, it would be author’s malpractice not to mention Barack Obama in that scenario, because he is the most visible result of that process: a black man able to run for president on a major party ticket…
So might Ifill’s book simply be about black politics, but not actually geared toward favoring Obama? Absolutely, and that’s how we imagine the final product turning out.
But if there is a “glaring conflict of interest” which the National Review suggests Republicans can use to their advantage (Poor Sarah Palin had to put up with Joe Biden AND Gwen Ifill), why did the McCain campaign agree to Ifill as a debate moderator? In fact, Ifill’s book was a known quantity on August 21, when the McCain campaign officially agreed to the debate schedule and moderators.
Or maybe it’s that the debates and their moderators were vetted by the McCain campaign as seriously as the vice presidential pick.

Ifill is not be trusted. I wouldn’t put it beyond her to have provided the questions to Biden already. The MSM has been so corrupted that it is difficult to trust anyone who supports Obama in view of all that he is or has been connected to or with, and which has not been reported or investigated. These are truly sad days for America when the self-anointed, self-endowed liberals can control information and truth with such an expanse of evil, socialism, and anti-Americanism.
October 1st, 2008 at 11:39 am
“But if there is a “glaring conflict of interest” which the National Review suggests Republicans can use to their advantage…”
And obviously that’s the point.
They pick someone with actual journalistic credibility–from The Newshour with Jim Lehrer–but they make sure it’s someone who can be blamed in some way for unfairly making little Sarah look bad.
October 1st, 2008 at 11:46 am
Sarah is no blushing violet, and ‘little’ does not work. She could denude Obama, Biden, you and your rottwiler.
October 1st, 2008 at 11:56 am
Missing the point, it’s not a stretch to perceive a “financial” conflict of interest, not political. Arguably, Ms. Ifill stands to sell more books, income if Obama is elected.
October 1st, 2008 at 12:01 pm
I agree with Rocky the Liberal Rottweiler,
Also, Once they make the charge, they can assume that Gwen MIGHT be intimidated into favoring Palin, but if Palin looks bad, just blame it on that old myth of the liberal media.
It’s a good trick for those who are receptive to it.
October 1st, 2008 at 12:02 pm
Oldie, I don’t argue with the point made by NR, but what were they, the debate committee, thinking when they appointed Ifill? An ulterior motive? Naaah.
October 1st, 2008 at 12:18 pm
There’s a book coming out. It will be authored by the moderator. It has something in it about Barrack Obama. We don’t know what the context is at the moment and won’t until it comes out.
Funny, there is no mention of African-Americans that might just happen to have a little bit of a say, just slightly to the right of center thought of opinion. That is ,was sucessful. Like ah, that guy that sits on the bench at some high court somewhere. What’s his name……..Thomas?
Look, even without this book. If I ran into Sarah Palin on the street my advice to her would be. “Look, It’s going to be a 90 Min. two on one power play. But I’m sure you know that.” “Now, stone em’ at the goal and then go put the biscuit in the basket. In fact Sarah, go top shelf.”
Alan, thats Hockey talk. BTW love you’re show!
October 1st, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Liberal Rottweiller, your point is well made over at NoQuarter.com. I quote:
look, this may be very helpful to mccain palin. This means the odds are stacked against her and now that the public is finding out Ifill’s conflict of interest, she is going to be forced to make sure she minds her p’s and q’s.
If Palin comes off as remarkable it will be against all odds. I think Mac’s team knew, but this is political dynamite for them. Palin is an amazing clutch player.
Look at her career and you see that throughout her 13 years in elected office she always come through when stakes are high.
Her RNC speech was absolutely amazing. She is going to rock this debate and i would not think otherwise. I would not be surprised if they had her not do so well in her couric interview for the sake of lowering expectations. Just like at the convention no one expected much and she delivered the best speech the RNC has had by a VP. She is going to wear Biden out and i bet she calls Ifill on the conflict of interest.
Keep pressuring PBS and the commision. Call into talk radio and any stations that cover politics and complain. By the time of the debate tomorrow america will be so outraged at the unfare moderator that she will be able to do no wrong in the publics eyes.
Just like the convention this debate is building into a perfect storm for her.
October 1st, 2008 at 12:30 pm
“Sarah is no blushing violet…”
It doesn’t matter if she’s Rambo.
If she fails the debate McCain’s campaign will spin it like poor little Sarah got treated unfairly.
October 1st, 2008 at 12:30 pm
Someone over at NoQuarter said that, in all fairness, there is no reason to expect Ifill to be nothing but objective.

October 1st, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Oh here we go again! I’am sure the debate will be riddled with “GOTCHA” questions, left wing liberal bias, sexism, etc, etc. The only interviewer that would be acceptable to McCain and Palin would be Jesus Christ.
October 1st, 2008 at 1:26 pm
Of course this has nothing to do with Gwen Ifill being black does it John McCain – you racist pig. Its old time Washington white power politics. But let’s see how the racial bigotry of John McCain gets passed off as maverick by the yahoo media?
October 1st, 2008 at 1:27 pm
” The only interviewer that would be acceptable to McCain and Palin would be Jesus Christ”
…………………………….
Wasn’t Jesus Christ a liberal?
October 1st, 2008 at 1:31 pm
What is funny about all the posts from the liberals pushing Obama, and who call John McCain a racist, is that the Republicans will probably be the first to put forth a valid candidate of color who will take the White House, and even then the liberals will call it a dirty racist trick. Imagine, a black Republican POTUS – those dirty bastards. Yeah, everyone will have to continue to account for themselves. Damn it!
October 1st, 2008 at 1:47 pm
This is a total nonissue. The Right is grasping at straws. It just makes them look more ridiculous.
Besides, I thought free enterprise is a good thing. What’s wrong with Gwen penning a book? Shouldn’t Republicans should be glad!
Or maybe free enterprise is only good if the book
doesn’t mention Obama.
October 1st, 2008 at 2:04 pm
” the Republicans will probably be the first to put forth a valid candidate of color who will take the White House”
Yeah like Alan Keyes or Clarence Thomas LMAO.
October 1st, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Old Lefty: OOPS guess I did make a error in judgement. I believe Jesus was indeed a liberal; however, S.P’s view of Jesus is far removed from mine.
October 1st, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Jesus was a Capricorn
October 1st, 2008 at 2:17 pm
If Barack Obama came from the SAME background but ran as an anti affirmative action, anti wefare Republican, who said, ‘I came from nothing and pulled myself up by my boot straps’, many Republicans would ADORE him, and calling him a Muslim would be unacceptable, and trashing Rev, Wright would be an attack on “people of faith”.
Still many Republicans AND many Democrats would not vote for a black guy.
October 1st, 2008 at 2:18 pm
OTTO, you are so right, but don’t you think that your point is only valid for those haven’t drunk the KOOL-Aid to be in the middle of a debate? Free enterprise is good when it is not tattered by thugs. Lets face it. If you choose to ignore the colossal amount of information available to everyone on the internet connecting the ‘One’ to illegal activities, which include voter fraud and cover-ups, you yourself are toxic. This guy is a menace to America, and so why am I grasping at straws when I see this Illfit moderating the debate when virtually the entire MSM is toxic. Its just another example of the dangerous slope America is on.
Hmm, I wonder why Alan hasn’t posted the indoctrination program for children initiated by the O people? It sure does look like what Hitler did in the ’30’s. You can see it over at NoQuarter unedited, exactly as the ‘bots present it.
October 1st, 2008 at 2:20 pm
They have to have an offensive strategy in place in case she goes belly up in the debates. I have an idea that all we will hear from S.P. is more of the same: condescending sarcasm, negative attacks. Nothing of any substance, because she has nothing of substance to say.
October 1st, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Rep’s probably could have had the first black candidate in the white house, Colin Powell; however, W and company didn’t like him. Rumsfeld and company turned him sour on the prospect.
October 1st, 2008 at 2:30 pm
How about Colin Powell as Obama’s Secretary of State? I think he’d be a strong, bipartisan pick.
October 1st, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Colin Powell is a proven liar – he stood before the United Nations and told a series of whoppers. He has absolutely zero integrity or credibility.
October 1st, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Thinking more about this, my guess would be that this is just the result of general dislike of PBS by most conservatives, rather than trying to find pre-excuses for Palin’s loss. It’s pretty hard to see what Palin could say wrong in the eyes of her supporters. They haven’t cared about any of her other slip ups.
Unless she sprouts horns and a tail, and draws a pentagram around Biden while chanting ‘double, double, toil and trouble’ backwards and in Latin – I’m pretty sure her supporters will think she won the debate.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Colin Powell is a proven liar – he stood before the United Nations and told a series of whoppers. He has absolutely zero integrity or credibility.
He took the blame for pushing Bush’s agenda on bad information, resigned, and regrets it to this day. I still think the man has integrity.

For Jake an obvious Obama supporter. No, Obama has never, never lied. Only Republicans lie. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Obama he got lotsa integrity.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Obama he got lotsa integrity.
I agree with that point.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:35 pm
World Net Daily doesn’t represent “the right wing”. It’s kind of like Wikipedia – occasionally useful for getting started in doing other research, but always to be taken with a serious grain of salt.
Gwen ifill is an accomplished professional who will be tough on both candidates. Is there a minor conflict of interest? Probably. Will she let it affect things? I doubt it.

Here is a quick look into 3 former Fannie Mae executives who have brought down Wall Street.
Franklin Raines was a Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Fannie Mae. Raines was forced to retire from his position with Fannie Mae when auditing discovered severe irregulaties in Fannie Mae’s accounting activities. At the time of his departure The Wall Street Journal noted, ” Raines, who long defended the company’s accounting despite mounting evidence that it wasn’t proper, issued a statement late Tuesday conceding that “mistakes were made” and saying he would assume responsibility as he had earlier promised. News reports indicate the company was under growing pressure from regulators to shake up its management in the wake of findings that the company’s books ran afoul of generally accepted accounting principles for four years.” Fannie Mae had to reduce its surplus by $9 billion.
Raines left with a “golden parachute valued at $240 Million in benefits. The Government filed suit against Raines when the depth of the accounting scandal became clear. http://housingdoom.com/2006/12/18/fannie-charges/ . The Government noted, “The 101 charges reveal how the individuals improperly manipulated earnings to maximize their bonuses, while knowingly neglecting accounting systems and internal controls, misapplying over twenty accounting principles and misleading the regulator and the public. The Notice explains how they submitted six years of misleading and inaccurate accounting statements and inaccurate capital reports that enabled them to grow Fannie Mae in an unsafe and unsound manner.” These charges were made in 2006. The Court ordered Raines to return $50 Million Dollars he received in bonuses based on the miss-stated Fannie Mae profits.
Tim Howard – Was the Chief Financial Officer of Fannie Mae. Howard “was a strong internal proponent of using accounting strategies that would ensure a “stable pattern of earnings” at Fannie. In everyday English – he was cooking the books. The Government Investigation determined that, “Chief Financial Officer, Tim Howard, failed to provide adequate oversight to key control and reporting functions within Fannie Mae,”
On June 16, 2006, Rep. Richard Baker, R-La., asked the Justice Department to investigate his allegations that two former Fannie Mae executives lied to Congress in October 2004 when they denied manipulating the mortgage-finance giant’s income statement to achieve management pay bonuses. Investigations by federal regulators and the company’s board of directors since concluded that management did manipulate 1998 earnings to trigger bonuses. Raines and Howard resigned under pressure in late 2004.
Howard’s Golden Parachute was estimated at $20 Million!
Jim Johnson – A former executive at Lehman Brothers and who was later forced from his position as Fannie Mae CEO. A look at the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s May 2006 report on mismanagement and corruption inside Fannie Mae, and you’ll see some interesting things about Johnson. Investigators found that Fannie Mae had hidden a substantial amount of Johnson’s1998 compensation from the public, reporting that it was between $6 million and $7 million when it fact it was $21 million.” Johnson is currently under investigation for taking illegal loans from Countrywide while serving as CEO of Fannie Mae. Johnson’s Golden Parachute was estimated at $28 Million.
WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
FRANKLIN RAINES? Raines works for the Obama Campaign as Chief Economic Advisor
TIM HOWARD? Howard is also a Chief Economic Advisor to Obama
JIM JOHNSON? Johnson hired as a Senior Obama Finance Advisor and was selected to run Obama’s Vice Presidential Search Committee
IF OBAMA PLANS ON CLEANING UP THE MESS – HIS ADVISORS HAVE THE EXPERTISE – THEY MADE THE MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE. Would you trust the men who tore Wall Street down to build the New Wall Street ???????????/
Even you stupid liberals should be able to figure this out!!!!
October 1st, 2008 at 4:06 pm
Nice cut and paste work. LOL.
GOP talking points. You have them down. Now, let’s see what the American people thing about them. Ha.
October 1st, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Poor Palin. If she’s too stupid to win the debate, then she loses the debate. Cons whine about every little detail concerning Palin. Yet with the next breath they trash Michelle Obama. They spout vile hatred things, but we are supposed to buy their phony outrage over the smallest detail. Just look at this site. They all say the same thing. Amazing.
Conservatives are pathetic kool-aid drinking sheep…
October 1st, 2008 at 4:50 pm
Gwen Ifil is a racist, biased, partisan liberal who has no business conducting the questioning within any debate.
October 1st, 2008 at 5:04 pm
I would never trash Meeshell Obama. Why she is the epitome of apple pie, ice cream and snow. So sweet, no bitterness, none of this ‘the world owes me a living’ kinda thing, no chip on her shoulder. Hmmmmmm! She is so perfect. Ask her macdaddy.
….and what a great First Lady she would be. I can see her now on the portico greeting William Ayers, Bernadine Dorn and the good ol’ Rev Wright, such bearing, such poise, while she slyly flips off America. HmmmHmm!
October 1st, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Guess McCain did not share ‘The Conservative’s’ hateful opinion of her, since he agreed to have her moderate the debate. But I have long thought that McCain was much better than some of his base.
McCain was the best selection the Republicans could have made, it’s too bad he had to pander to some in the base by selecting Palin. I feel bad for they guy, though I feel worse for the country as I would say there are better than even odds of him winning the election, and bringing Palin into national politics.
October 1st, 2008 at 5:11 pm
She contributed money to his campaign, she is an obama supporter, and she has control over the questions.
If Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh were to handle this debate the dems would have a heart attack.
October 1st, 2008 at 5:16 pm
Gwen Ifil is a racist, biased, partisan liberal who has no business conducting the questioning within any debate.
—————————————————————-
Hmm, didn’t Obama call Bill Clinton a racist, and used the race card on Hillary.,,and now we have one of the supreme racists in the MSM highlighting a debate so the American public can have a fair and balanced view of the candidates. My goodness, you Demoncrats gots too many racists. You be screwing up the country with hate.
October 1st, 2008 at 5:19 pm
Imagine a president and first lady who worked for what they achieved, (like Bill Clinton), instead just inheriting it.
And say what you want about William Ayers, Bernadine Dorn and the good ol’ Rev Wright, at least they won’t be personally and financially beholden to the bin Ladin family, the Saudi royal family and the right wing preachers who blame the American PEOPLE instead just the American government.
October 1st, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Old,
Who exactly was ayers trying to blow up? Americans.
I didn’t realize we had come to the point in this country where success is viewed as a sin. Why don’t we just put a sickle with a star on our flag and make everyone the same. That way, there is no pressure to work hard and make something of yourself.
If you inherit wealth, obviously somewhere along the line in your family worked hard to become successful.
How dare anyone actually fulfill the American dream
October 1st, 2008 at 5:27 pm
T. Mason notes:
I would indeed have to wonder what Obama was thinking if he let Rush or Hannity moderate this debate. For one thing Rush and Hannity love the sounds of their own voices so much, no one else would get a chance to talk.
Since you view Gwen as being the equivalent on the left to Rush on the right, does it make you rethink McCain’s judgement to agree to this?
October 1st, 2008 at 5:36 pm
McCain did not know about her book deal prior to the debate (that was announced this afternoon). There is speculation, though I haven’t found proof, that McCain did not know she had given money to Obama’s campaign.
I don’t think having her is a good idea. The dems would never stand for anyone who was in the tank for McCain running the debate.
October 1st, 2008 at 5:38 pm
McCain did not know about her book deal prior to the debate (that was announced this afternoon).
She announced her book two weeks before McCain agreed to having her as a moderator. Did the campaign ever think to try a Google News search before approving her?
October 1st, 2008 at 5:55 pm
Conflict..She should not be doing this.
October 1st, 2008 at 6:04 pm
[...] Cameron that he has no problem with Gwen Ifill moderating the VP debate, in spite of the sudden screeching on the right that her authorship of a book on black politics should disqualify her. and in spite of an organized [...]
October 1st, 2008 at 6:06 pm
McCain did not know about her book deal prior to the debate (that was announced this afternoon).
I find it hard to believe that McCain would not adequately vet… er.. um… nevermind.
October 1st, 2008 at 6:06 pm
Whatever. The vetted thing has been done to death, and quite honestly if you aren’t going to vote for her why does it matter whether or not he vetted her to the dems liking.
maybe obama should have vetted joe biden a little more to figure out he has foot in mouth syndrome.
The fact is, if she was writing a book about McCain and had given him money, blah blah blah you guys would be standing on your heads talking about a vast right wing conspiracy
October 1st, 2008 at 6:18 pm
T. Mason,
Obama’s connection to Ayers is minor, and not self serving compared to the Bush family’s ties to the Saudis and Bin Ladins.
If Ayres is such a dangerous terrorist, why has he not been tried and convicted?
They know where he is.
As for:
“Why don’t we just put a sickle with a star on our flag and make everyone the same. That way, there is no pressure to work hard and make something of yourself.”
Hard work is EXACTLY how the Obamas got where they are.
It’s the Republicans who seem to hate them for it.
How do you go from, (Obama worked hard and achieved more on his own than those who were born with the silver spoon in their mouths)…to ‘make everyone the same. That way, there is no pressure to work hard and make something of yourself.?
October 1st, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Colin Powell was told the same lies the American people were told. W and company “cooked” the intelligence to fit his perverse reasons to go to war. Another one who had a direct line to the one upstairs, another “task from God.”
October 1st, 2008 at 6:37 pm
That’s right Susan, all the blacks were lied to. Damn, damn damn godddddamn Amerikka.
October 1st, 2008 at 6:54 pm
…Oh, my gosh, Susan, I forgot about the CIA and how they introduced drugs to the blacks…and those menthol cigarettes.
As for Old Lefty, you had better read up on the scumbag Ayers. He was charged. He got off on a technicality. Justice in America. Justice you won’t find in Obama’s world.
My God, you KOOL-Aid drinkers are dangerous.
October 1st, 2008 at 7:02 pm
ROFL. Old, his connection is not minor.
I find it interesting that you suggest someone wasn’t dangerous simply because their bombs didn’t work properly? Ayers admitted HIMSELF “I don’t regret setting bombs,” and “I feel we didn’t do enough”
He would like all of us to think they were casual friends, that is not the case at all. It’s kinda like him brushing off the minister he had followed for over 20 years when the media starting asking questions/putting that relationship in the limelight.
It is pretty bad when you have to distance yourself from the people you once associated with because of their questionable behavior.
I think there are enough people on both sides of the aisle who have worked hard to get where they are. John McCain worked hard too. His wife’s father worked hard for what they have.
I never see the dems griping about silver spoons unless it involves someone from the right. How convenient for you.
If you start re-destributing income, and punishing the wealthy for being wealthy (they do pay the most taxes, and if they weren’t here we would all be in a bigger world of hurt) you take away incentive to do better for yourself.
It is hypocritical to praise the obama’s for their success, while demeaning the successes of people on the other side of the aisle.
October 1st, 2008 at 7:08 pm
Thank you Mason for a great post.
October 1st, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Gwen Ifill is a left wing hack national socialist who belongs in Nazi Germany reading prepared statements fed to her by Joseph Goebbels. She is a useful idiot of the traitor wing of the democrat party. I would rather have Allen Combs moderate the debate.
October 1st, 2008 at 7:30 pm
The Factor,
That’s EXACTLY what they say about Fox ,
And Nazi Germany was a far right wing regime.
And the statements of Joseph Goebbels much more closely resemble those from the right:
“The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly – it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over”
Joseph Goebbels
……………………..
“9/11/,WMD, Sadaam, 9/11/,WMD, Sadaam, 9/11/,WMD, Sadaam, 9/11/,WMD, Sadaam…………….
“Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.”
Joseph Goebbels
Fox, Rush, NTY running stories Judith Miller got from Cheney’s office, then Cheney quoting the NYT…..
“Intellectual activity is a danger to the building of character”
George W Bush, Sarah Palin calling your opponents “ELITE”.
Many liberals think YOUR guys are the “useful idiots of the traitor wing of the republic party.
October 1st, 2008 at 8:06 pm
Old Lefty,
Comparing the Republican party to Nazi’s is pretty darn bad, OLD.
“it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over”
Of course when you refer to the talking points that a political party uses over and over and over again, you are including your party in that aren’t you?
October 1st, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Obama has less experience then Sarah Palin. The real reason the elite left wing and media dislikes her, because she is a real self-made woman who did not go to the east coast Ivy League schools. Real America loves. The elite left dislikes and condemns
Any one who does not share their bigoted view of this world. That is why the mainstream media is losing money, laying off staff and dieing daily. Sarah Palin does not need to speak to the elite media. She can speak directly to main stream
October 1st, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Revere,
What is ‘the elite left wing’? I don’t like Palin, and I’m a liberal – do I need any additional qualifications to be ‘elite’? I certainly don’t want to be ‘mediocre left wing’, so I’m hoping I qualify, but nobody ever sent me a membership card or anything.
What does it take to be ‘elite’? I read newspapers and magazines, is that enough?

Bruno passed away fro his illness Sunday. He was a great American Hero. Bruno was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery with the President attending. Bruno was a great asset to all of his neighbors and co-workers at Langley Virginia. His words are burning in many hearts. Bruno said the left in this country are the allies of our enemies. He said Sarah Palin was the beginning of a great movement of Main Street America rising up. She will bring this country back from the insane perverted left wing. He said this Fanny Mae crisis is due strictly to the left wing Democrats. America will rise up and realize the corrupt and perverted left wing is a cancer to all. He said the left wing is full of hate critical and anger. Only a miserable person would join. Misery invites company. below was his words to the next geration as he passed his baton over.
Remember what I said. It is true and part of a misinformation plan is to make the truth look paranoid. Just look around and see the media and DNC parroting the party line. The Christian Religion is evil. Homosexual is normal. Patriotism evil. Rebellion and changing the Constitution normal. Disarm the citizens normal. NRA and hunters evil. The Military and heroes evil. Anti military and ridicule heroes normal. Success and hard work evil. The government owes me normal. Shocking this is right out of the handbook of communist and Islamic terrorism guides to revolution and over throwing a country.. Schools teach the government is evil and socialism utopia normal. Divide the races through agitators and media. Destroy marriage and the families. The state is the parent. Call evil good and smear and destroy good. Look at the Hollywood crowd. McCarthy was right and history has proven it. They flock around dictators and tyrants Chavez, Castro, Iranian, and Syrians. Wake up and vote for McCain if you want freedom. After 40 years of Intelligence service I can just say look and watch. Look at Obama’s friend’s Islamic terror operatives. Rev. Wright preacher of Racist William Ayers radical terrorist. Farakhan. Research the hidden years at Columbia University. Also the overseas trips. Victor Marchenco, Ivan Scholos, Gory Machlinsos. Fhaad Hussan these are a few of the KGB friends who financed and open doors here through contacts. I am not long for this earth. A Terminal Sickness has attached to me. I want to warn my beloved country.
October 1st, 2008 at 9:53 pm
UM CARA,
I don’t support John McCain, he’s a liberal. I’m an independent thinking conservative who at this juncture, has no party affiliation. Most are traitors, and you’re nothing but a fool to believe and follow them.
October 1st, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Alan please stop. I love your show and watch it every night but enough. You just had member’s of the Senate come out in what looked to be a bi-partisan manor and congratulate each other and themselves. Maybe it is good maybe it won’t be but it is all we have. I am a real estate appraiser of 30 years and can tell you about the lending problems and Freddie/Fannie. I am sitting here with a son in a mental hospital, a father dying and no work. Do you think I am happy with any member of this Congress or the Administration? No I am not. But I love this Country and I am willing to get another job for awhile if I must. I can not even afford the gas to go see my son at the hospital or see my father in his last days. Then I turn Fox on to watch you show and you couldn’t just for once stop the theatrics and be positive. Sometimes you and Hannity go on and on adnaseaum. Greta nor Neil have great shows and neither go on the attack like you did tonight. I am rambling because I just do not know what to say. Right now I have nothing positive in my life so PLEASE try to just stop with the drama. Let this legislation be voted on, stop the blame game and just say “wow they did it”. The news media including Fox is becoming responsible for the lack of confidence in our system. Republican or Democrat it simply doesn’t matter at this moment. We are American’s first and I am sure that you love this country as much as I do. You are very good at what you do but lately you are preforming in a manner that holds no integrity. Let Shaun be the creepie bullie he does it well. Even the Fox contributor’s have been saying to you ” Stop Alan, wait a min Alan, No Alan etc.” You really need to pay attention to what the people who love your show have to say. It is time for the hate attitude and talk to stop. Be the bigger person. Sorry for going on so long but I am passionate about this because I don’t want to stop listening or watching you. Thanks, Jacqueline BTW I am the niece of Jack F. the man who you had on your show who had been a hostage of Saddam Hussein’s in Baghdad, in Oct of 1990. He was an ironworker/heavy equipment supervisor. He died 3 days after he was awarded the money from Saddam’s account. He never got to enjoy on day of peace and fun. He did your show twice and then remained in a care home until his death caused by Diabetes. Well thanks for reading this if you do and continued success to you.
October 1st, 2008 at 10:34 pm
The Conservative,
Calling someone a traitor is a pretty serious charge, and a specific one. I’m not sure what evidence you have to show these people you are referring to are traitors, but hopefully you have shared it with the FBI.
I too have no party affiliation, this will be the first election I have ever voted for a major party candidate.
Not sure why you feel it necessary to single me out and call me a ‘fool’, but thanks for paying attention to me – it shows you care.

Gwen Ifill and her book.
Both camps knew about this back in July of this year.
They knew the book’s title and they knew it concerned Obama and that it will come out Jan. 20, 2009. By the way the 1/20/09 date release was as a result of her publisher, not her.
I certainly hope Ms Ifill does not ask the lipstick wearing Baracuda her favorite 800 number…

Anyone think Tony Rezko is cutting a deal right now to save his own skin. Will he implicate Obama on the shady deals that took place. Maybe this will be the October surprise.
Having Ifill moderate and be unbiased will be another lie produced by the left.
The great “community organizer” will never lie either. Check out these video truths by Barry Obama.

T. Mason:
Re: Ayres:
Obama’s ties to him were minor, (serving on a board, and a $200.00 donation?), while Bush’s ties to those who fund and support the terrorists who DID hit us 9/11, resulted in REAL conflicts of interest.
Can you imagine if Obama did business the bin Laden family, then got them out of the country after 9/11, when Americans were stranded, THEN let bin Ladin go?
Or had gone to fund raisers with people like Al-Arian, who had been under investigation by the FBI for his associations with Islamic Jihad, the Palestinian terrorist group. Oh, Please!
When the right ignored Bush’s LONG time financial ties to terrorists, while putting on a show of fighting them, you don’t get to have the vapors over a guy like Ayers.
As for:,” I never see the dems griping about silver spoons unless it involves someone from the right. How convenient for you.”
Typical GPO tactic:
YOU act as though Obama is the elitist silver spoon kid. When you are called on it, and reminded that it IS actually the opposite, you whine about YOUR candidate being attacked for the very thing you falsely attacked OUR guy for.
So it’s OK to redistribute the wealth from the middle class to the wealthy, so they can invest it in countries with cheap labor, so that WE can become a third world country?
People like Warren Buffet and David Kay Johnson say it’s just an often repeated fallacy that the rich pay their share.
If you let the rich get no bid government contracts at cost plus, and move their headquarters offshore to avoid paying taxes, (but keep their boardrooms here and use our infrastructure), AND get golden parachutes for failure, you take away the incentive for them to do better, or even do the jobs they were contracted to do.
I think YOUR side is engaging in the hypocrisy of demeaning Obama’s success, while praising only that of those born into wealth.

**They served together on The Chicago Annenberg Challenege
***In 1995, Obama’s state senate campaign launch was held at Ayer’s home.
Ecerpt from Kurtz’s investigation:
“The CAC’s agenda flowed from Mr. Ayers’s educational philosophy, which called for infusing students and their parents with a radical political commitment, and which downplayed achievement tests in favor of activism. In the mid-1960s, Mr. Ayers taught at a radical alternative school, and served as a community organizer in Cleveland’s ghetto….
CAC translated Mr. Ayers’s radicalism into practice. Instead of funding schools directly, it required schools to affiliate with “external partners,” which actually got the money. Proposals from groups focused on math/science achievement were turned down. Instead CAC disbursed money through various far-left community organizers, such as the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (or Acorn).
Mr. Obama once conducted “leadership training” seminars with Acorn, and Acorn members also served as volunteers in Mr. Obama’s early campaigns. External partners like the South Shore African Village Collaborative and the Dual Language Exchange focused more on political consciousness, Afrocentricity and bilingualism than traditional education. CAC’s in-house evaluators comprehensively studied the effects of its grants on the test scores of Chicago public-school students. They found no evidence of educational improvement….”
***Add others with questionable pasts to the list. You keep bringing up Bush. BUSH ISNT’T RUNNING!!!!
***It isn’t guilt by association, it is guilt by PARTICIPATION. You can’t even say that the guy has friends(Ayers, Rezko, etc. etc. etc) that are bad for this country. That is pretty sad.
*** I am not the one with the issues with how much money people make. I am all for it. You, with the other far lefties have a problem with wealth in general. YOU continually bring up silver spoons, money hungry republicans. You try to act like the only people who have worked for what they have are represented by a donkey. That isn’t the case.
***And by the way, Obama may not have been born an elitist, but he IS an elitist NOW.
***Simple lesson in economics: If we keep taxing businesses who are already trying to stay afloat, we will be hurting. If you continue to raise taxes, even at 250,000 which by the way is a HUGE chunk of small businesses you are going to have businesses closing their doors, not making payroll, cutting all their benefits, laying off. THAT IS BAD for the economy.
**quite frankly every conversation I have with you ends up somehow with you blaming the republicans for everything and not accepting any blame for your own party. That is getting kinda Old, lefty.
October 2nd, 2008 at 8:22 am
In response to your other post. I don’t think there is room here to call anyone a Nazi. And you never answered the question. YOu are including your own party in on that little tidbit of using the same line over and over and over again, right?? lefty?
And I don’t faint.
October 2nd, 2008 at 8:28 am
T. Mason,
The Kurtz you quote, (Stanley) is from the far, right wing think tank, Ethics and Public Policy Center.
It has no more credibility for me than Pacifica Radio or Noam Chomsky has for you.
As for:
“Add others with questionable pasts to the list. You keep bringing up Bush. BUSH ISNT’T RUNNING!!!!”
#1. You guys don’t get to suddenly care about past associations, when you didn’t care when it mattered.
#2. You COULD go to all the smears (true or not) against McCain, his lobbyists, the VietNam Vets Against John McCain, Ted Sampley, even the smears that the Bush campain hurled at him in 2000.
I think they are AS relevant or as irrelevant as the smears against Obama.
Actually, we don’t have a problem with wealth, when it is made honestly, and not at the expense of the poor.
It seems to me, that you ‘far righties’ have a problem with welfare for the needy, but not with welfare for the super rich.
Just calling Obama an elisist doesn’t make it so, any more than calling the real elitists, who make the foreign policy that benefits THEIR own industries, “regular guys” makes them so.
The Republicans are taxing businesses who are already trying to stay afloat, they are NOT taxing the HUGE businesses, who are their donars and cronies, and who are unfairly competing with the small businesses.
Businesses are closing their doors, because they can’t compete with the Wal Marts.
You had Halliburton getting no bid contracts in New Orlreans at the expense of the locals.
Where’s the competition to the big trans national corporations?
In Re:
“quite frankly every conversation I have with you ends up somehow with you blaming the republicans for everything and not accepting any blame for your own party. That is getting kinda Old, lefty.”
You are right. In a more liberal forum, liberals are more self critical.
If I went to conservative websites and repeated EVERY smear against the GOP, would you just ignore it and blame conservatives? Or would feel the need to respond to what you felt were falsehoods?
You come onto this liberal website and blame liberals and Democrats for everything and expect us not to fight back?
Lastly,
I don’t see the Democrats as being cohesive enough to use the same line over and over again, not that it never happens, but not nearly to the extent that Republicans do it.
Democrats have nothing like Newt Gingrich’s Language: A Key Mechanism of Control.
The almost uniform use of the incorrect..”Democrat” party is great evidence of the Republicans walking in lockstep.

Obama’s Fishy $200 Million
By The Prowler
Published 10/2/2008 12:08:46 AM
FUNNY MONEY
An auditor for the Federal Election Commission is attempting to have his bosses seek a formal investigation into the collection by the Obama for President campaign of more than $200 million in potentially illegal political donations, including millions of dollars of illegal, foreign donations, and has sought a request for assistance from the Department of Justice or Federal Bureau of Investigation. But the analyst’s requests have largely been ignored. “I can’t get anyone to move. I believe we are looking at a hijacking of our political system that makes the Clinton and Gore fundraising scandals pale in comparison. And no one here wants to touch it.”
One reasons cited by his superiors, says the analyst, is that involvement by the Justice Department or FBI would be indicative of a criminal investigation, something the FEC would prefer not take place a month before the presidential election. Such actions, though, have been used to scuttle Republican campaigns in the past, the most famous being the Weinberger case in the days leading up to the 1992 re-election bid of President George H.W. Bush.
The analyst, who declines to be identified for fear of retribution, says that on four different occasions in the past three months, he sought to open formal investigations into the Obama campaign’s fundraising techniques, but those investigations have been discouraged. “Without formal approval, I can’t get the resources I need, manpower, that kind of thing. This is a huge undertaking.” And the analyst says that he believes that campaign finance violations have occurred.
The Obama campaign has already had to deal with several FEC complaints about fraudulent donors and illegal foreign contributions, and the FEC says it has no record that those complaints have been resolved or closed. As well, the Obama campaign has been cagey at times about the means by which it has made its historic fundraising hauls, which now total almost $500 million for the election cycle. The Hillary Clinton campaign raised questions about the huge amount of e-retail sales the Obama campaign was making for such things as t-shirts and other campaign paraphernalia, and how such sales were being tracked and used for fundraising purposes. While the profits of those items counted against the $2,300 personal donation limit, there have always been lingering questions about the e-retail system.
“The question has always been, if you buy a $25 t-shirt and you go back to that purchaser eight or nine times with email appeals for $200 or $500 donations, and you have people donating like that all the time, at what point does the campaign bother to check if the FEC limit has been exceeded?” says a former Clinton campaign fundraiser. “There are enough of us from the 1992 and 1996 and 2000 races around to know that many of these kinds of violations never get caught until after the election has been won or lost. In this case, there is no way the Obama campaign will be held accountable before Election Day, unless someone raises holy hell.”
The FEC analyst says that Obama’s filings indicate he has received large, bundled sums of donations from overseas, sometimes exceeding a quarter millions dollars. “It’s suspicious, but it’s the small donations made by credit card that need to be examined. We’ve raised red flags on many of these and the Obama campaign just ignores us. After this election, after we’ve sifted through everything — if we’re allowed to sift through everything — I am confident that we are looking at perhaps the largest fine every leveled against a national campaign entity.”
Just as frustrating as the lack of desire on the part of his bosses to act, says the analyst, is that major media outlets have ignored the story he has been attempting to tell. Thus far, Newsmax is one of the few publications to cover the Obama campaign finance scam story.
FAN, FRED, AND FRANK
House Democrats are concerned that it wasn’t just Rep. Barney Frank who was having extracurricular relations with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac executives, and that those relationships will come to light before the election a month from now.
According to a former Democrat staffer working for the House Committee on Financial Services, there were a number of stories involving Democrat members of the committee, as well as staffers for those Democrats, participating in retreats and getaway weekends paid for by Fan and Fred executives and lobbyists.
“Republicans were in the majority, and they weren’t getting invited on these trips,” says the former aide, who now works for an investment house in New York. “It’s not that Republicans weren’t enjoying themselves, but not the way my guys were. If I were a Democratic member in the mid to late 90s and dealt with financial services or housing issues, I’d be real nervous right now.”
Frank has not hidden the fact that he was in a romantic relationship with a former executive for Fannie Mae. Frank now chairs the Financial Services Committee and was one of several longtime Democrat members who sought assurances from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi that no action would be taken on Fan or Fred investigations until after the election in November.

Obama belongs in Jail. This is money from Middle Eastern terrorists and Chavez. Thier is also money from China and Russia. Why would they put huge sums into Obama. Easy he is their boy who will do what they say. Whoever Bruno is he did predict this. Where is our media? I forgot they are at the altar worshipping The Messiah Heir Hussein Obama. Yes Bruno is right. Whether you are a liberal or conservitive we are Americans and we must demand action to investigate this brazen attack on our political system.
October 2nd, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Old Lefty please research this with your all your resources and please tell us this is untrue. I do not want to believe this. Obama is my man unless proven guilty.
October 2nd, 2008 at 3:34 pm
I thought Bruno was dead, Colonel. Is he still talking to you? Have you considered that maybe it isn’t Bruno talking to you – but a KGB spy who has disguised the voice he places in your head to sound like Bruno?
There are layers upon layers upon layers of subterfuge at work here, Colonel. Don’t take anything at face value.
It’s exactly what the KGB Bruno wants you to do.
October 2nd, 2008 at 3:35 pm

Colonel,
Were you this disturbed by the Bushs doing business with the bin Ladin family, and flying them out of the country before the FBI could question them?
How about when Dear Leader holds hands with the Saudi prince, who then goes back to Saudi Arabia and raises money for al Qaeda?
How about when Reagan and Bush Sr armed Sadaam, Iran and the Mujahideen, who then became al Qaeda?
October 2nd, 2008 at 3:38 pm
You cannot destroy Bruno with your silly partisan dribble. Bruno passed away Sunday Sept. 21, 2008. Your sarcastic remarks show your cowardly believe any thing the ascended masters of the DNC tells you. Your ignorance is only exceeded by your defamation of a real American Hero who was wounded 6 times in two wars and was highly decorated for bravery. He then became a legend in the intelligence world. The President and the director of the C.I.A. were at his memorial. Bruno was his code name. He was a real hero who died anonymous. He did this for the love of country. Please attack Obama who is working with forces against this country.
You still have not answered the question. Why are they giving money to Obama. You are a hate filled blind puppet for him

But in the democrat primaries when there would be no republican in the debate faux was too biased.

Damn old lefty… is there no lie you won’t repeat? What is wrong with you?
Let’s say you do believe it, google it and find out the truth. If it’s true, go ahead and have fun posting it. If it’s not true, don’t repeat it over and over.
Richard Clarke — the national security aide who later became one of Bush’s strongest public critics — testified repeatedly that he made the decision to allow the flights, after consulting with the Federal Bureau of Investigation

My information comes from:
Dana Milbank, “Plane Carried 13 Bin Ladens;Manifest of Sept. 19, 2001, Flight From U.S. Is Released, Washington Post, July 22, 2003.
Of the 13 relatives of Osama bin Laden who left on these fights, “One passenger, Omar Awad bin Laden, a nephew of the al Qaeda leader, had been investigated by the FBI because he had lived with Abdullah bin Laden, a leader of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth, which the FBI suspected of being a terrorist organization.”
I know Richard Clark said he gave the OK, but why.
If the source is wrong, I stand corrected.

Subject: WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
Here is a quick look into 3 former Fannie Mae executives who have brought down Wall Street. Where
FRANKLIN RAINES – was a Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Fannie Mae. Raines was forced to retire from his position with Fannie Mae when auditing discovered severe irregulaties in Fannie Mae’s accounting activities. At the time of his departure The Wall Street Journal noted, “Raines, who long defended the company’s accounting despite mounting evidence that it wasn’t proper, issued a statement late Tuesday conceding that “mistakes were made” and saying he would assume responsibility as he had earlier promised.
The Court ordered Raines to return $50 Million Dollars he received in bonuses based on the misstated Fannie Mae profits.
Howard’s Golden Parachute was estimated at $20 Million
JIM JOHNSON – A former executive at Lehman Brothers and who was later forced from his position as Fannie Mae CEO. A look at the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s May 2006 report on mismanagement and corruption inside Fannie Mae, and you’ll see some interesting things about Johnson. Investigators found that Fannie Mae had hidden a substantial amount of Johnson’s 1998 compensation from the public, reporting that it was between $6 million and $7 million when it fact it was $21 million.” Johnson is currently under investigation for taking illegal loans from Countrywide while serving as CEO of Fannie Mae.

You never answered my question. You attacked the messanger instead of the message. The above post is the final nail in the coffin. I was fooled by Obama and his campaign. I should have listened to the reports. I have had it with him. I will vote McCain atleast he is a man of his word with integrity
October 2nd, 2008 at 6:49 pm
The Obama bashers at least are good for a laugh.
Too bad they didn’t listen to Obama when he warned the NASDAQ about this in Sept 2007.
October 2nd, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Spring,
You should vote for who ever you want. I don’t think you were ever going to vote for Obama.
October 2nd, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Lefty
I am and have been a Democrat for 45 years. I was on Obama’s staff paid by him up tp 1 hour ago. I quit and so did and five others. You still have not answered the question. I wish I would have had this experiance a long time ago. You refuse to answer. You sound like you are Barney Frank. Lefty it should be obvious to all who read your posts that you are a paid hack for the DNC. They told us they had 125 of you on the payroll. I hope you realize it is dirty money. I am sending the last two months salary to Mc Cain Palin. Shame on you for what attack you thinking.
October 2nd, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Spring
This is my first time on this blog. Go for it girl. I am proud of you. The light shinned on me when they attacked Sarah Palin. They think hetrosexual woman are freaks and especially a mother. The Homosexuals and lesbians have taken the party.
October 2nd, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Spring, you are not smart enough to be on Obama’s paid staff! you are quite a funny paid troll though!
October 2nd, 2008 at 11:19 pm
Becky is proud of a MORON! You go becky! You are an example of why we have to “lower our expectations” of sara palin. You are a FREAK!
October 2nd, 2008 at 11:23 pm
Spring,
Of course, you were on Obama’s staff!
There are tons of people who are devoted to a candidate, and then get completely turned around by a rumor from the other side.
I am not paid by the Obama campaign… I am a bio – ethicist, MD, with a Ph.D. in ecomonics, and an intelligence agent, who lectures on foreign policy.
I am a WW1, a WW11, and a Gulf War veteran who just returned from Iraq and I was TOTALLY devoted to John McCain until I saw a Move on.org ad, then I quit and joined the Obama campaign.
October 3rd, 2008 at 7:04 am
At least Bruno and the Colonel are/is in touch with their/his feminine side. Take a bow Jennifer and Spring :)
October 3rd, 2008 at 7:49 am
Sarah Palin showed the world what real Americans feel and think. What a breath of fresh air. She has love humor and looks to the future. Hussein Obama and Biden are mean look backwards, They blame every one for what they are doing. Raise taxes and class warfare. Who would want to be around these bad news losers. Sarah is the future. No wonder the above posts are so angry and full of hate. Obama is a tax and spend racist liberal muslim.
October 3rd, 2008 at 9:57 am
Becky,
That’s EXACTLY what Obama supporters say about him.
It amazes me that conservatives come on a liberal website with the usual tired, old political slogans, as if we never heard them before.
The fear of someone who looks a little different is sad.
This is why a younger person wrote in a comment section of the WaPo:
“My generation doesn’t care about race or sexual orientation, will the baby boomers die already so we can get this country back on track?”
As a boomer myself, I was taken aback, but you can see the frustration among forward thinking people.

Biden’s 14 Lies
Posted on Friday, October 03, 2008 08:12:07 by McCainPalin_08
Fresh from the McCain people.
JOE BIDEN’S 14 LIES
1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.
2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.
3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”
4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.
5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.
6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.
7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people’s health insurance coverage — they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false
8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska — she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it’s not a windfall profits tax.
9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.
10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation — he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.
11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.
12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.
13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”
14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won’t pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.

So we knoit MUST be true!!
McCain’s lies and flipflops:
Take it for what it’s worth…(about as much as the above post.)

BEFORE
McCain 11/16/07: “One of the things that kept us going when I was in prison in North Vietnam was that we knew that if the situation were reversed, that we would not be doing to our captors what they were doing to us”
“I want to tell you. Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney all think it is O.K. They have one thing in common. They don’t understand the military and the culture of this nation. If they did, they could never condone such behavior.” [NY Times]
AFTER
McCain votes against a ban on CIA torture. [NY Times]
Special Interests
BEFORE
McCain: “I’m the only one special interests don’t give any money to.” [YouTube]

Jerry Falwell
BEFORE
McCain 2/28/2000: “I am a pro-life, pro-family fiscal conservative, an advocate of a strong defense, and yet Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell and a few Washington leaders of the pro-life movement call me an unacceptable presidential candidate. They distort my pro- life positions and smear the reputations of my supporters. Why? Because I don’t pander to them, because I don’t ascribe to their failed philosophy that money is our message.”
McCain 2/29/2000: calls Robertson and Falwell “agents of intolerance.” [IHT]
AFTER
McCain gives commencement speech at Falwell’s Liberty University, cozies up to Falwell. [ABC]
Iraq
BEFORE
McCain 9/29/02: “We’re not going to get into house-to-house fighting in Baghdad. We may have to take out buildings, but we’re not going to have a bloodletting of trading American bodies for Iraqi bodies.”
McCain 1/22/03: “But the point is that, one, we will win this conflict. We will win it easily.” [ThinkProgress]
AFTER
McCain: 1/4/07: “When I voted to support this war, I knew it was probably going to be long and hard and tough, and those that voted for it and thought that somehow it was going to be some kind of an easy task, then I’m sorry they were mistaken. Maybe they didn’t know what they were voting for.” [ThinkProgress]
Abortion
BEFORE
McCain 8/24/99: “But certainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations.” [WashPost]
AFTER
McCain 2/18/07: “I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned” [MSNBC]
Bush’s tax cuts

Ethanol [hat tip Carpetbagger]
BEFORE
McCain 11/03: “Ethanol is a product that would not exist if Congress didn’t create an artificial market for it. No one would be willing to buy it. Yet thanks to agricultural subsidies and ethanol producer subsidies, it is now a very big business – tens of billions of dollars that have enriched a handful of corporate interests – primarily one big corporation, ADM. Ethanol does nothing to reduce fuel consumption, nothing to increase our energy independence, nothing to improve air quality.” [CNN]
AFTER
McCain 8/06: “I support ethanol and I think it is a vital, a vital alternative energy source not only because of our dependency on foreign oil but its greenhouse gas reduction effects.” [CNN]

BEFORE
"The media often overlooked how compassionately [Hillary Clinton] spoke to the concerns and dreams of millions of Americans.”
AFTER
“I did not [say that].”
[Think Progress]
The Estate Tax
BEFORE
“I am concerned that repeal of the estate tax would provide massive benefits solely to the wealthiest and highest-income taxpayers in the country. A Treasury Department study found that almost no estate tax has been paid by lower- and middle-income taxpayers. But taxes have been paid on the estates of people who were in the highest 20% of the income distribution at the time of their death. It found that 91% of all estate taxes are paid by the estates of people whose annual income exceeded $190,000 around the time of their death.”
AFTER
“Another of my disagreements with Senator Obama concerns the estate tax, which he proposes to increase to a top rate of 55 percent. The estate tax is one of the most unfair tax laws on the books, and the first step to reform is to keep it predictable and keep it low.”
[Matthew Yglesias]
Wiretaps
BEFORE

Where they do apply, however, I think that presidents have the obligation to obey and enforce laws that are passed by Congress and signed into law by the president, no matter what the situation is.”
AFTER
McCain spokesman: “Neither the administration nor the telecoms need apologize for actions that most people, except for the A.C.L.U. and trial lawyers, understand were constitutional and appropriate in the wake of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001,”
[NY Times]
Immigration Reform
#1
BEFORE
McCain introduces bill on immigration reform.

[MediaMatters]
#2
BEFORE
May 22, 2008: “[We must enact comprehensive immigration reform. We must make it a top agenda item if we don’t do it before, and we probably won’t, a little straight talk, as of January 2009."
AFTER
National Review: "Team McCain tells me the senator’s comments were poorly worded. There’s been no discussion within the campaign of altering their stance on illegal immigration, and as far as everyone on the campaign is concerned, the policy is still, ’secure the border first.’"

Nice post. Don’t forget that McCain is one of the Keating Five, the five senators who tried to keep a donor out of prison during the 1980’s savings and loan scandal by pressuring federal investigators. The donor, Charles Keating, was found guilty on 70 counts of fraud and helped run the country into a recession. That period of McCain’s career led him back to the drawing board to reinvent himself as “The Straight Talk Express.”
Plus, McCain’s jet he flies around in, which is owned by Paxson communications (the company that the lobbyist McCain allegedly had an affair with works for) is the same plane used to fly Saudi Royal Family members out of the country days after 9/11 when all planes were grounded.
http://www.ickypeople.com/2008/02/mccain-lobbyist-plane-flew-saudis-out.html
Once the Republican Convention is over, McCain is formally nominated, and the official race begins, it will be crucial to continue to expose him as the lying, hypocritical, corrupt windbag he is. Right now the press is being somewhat easy on him since most of the attention is on the Democrats. Don’t count on the mainstream press to do our jobs and report the truth once the election starts, however. Look at how they skipped over Bush’s notorious past. Anyone who’s direct family members were declared enemies of the United States and had their business ownings seized for money laundering Nazi loot should never have been allowed to run for president. The media either fell asleep on the job or intentionally covered it up. Now anyone who mentions the story is painted as a kook or goofball, despite the U.S. Library of Congress having records of all of it.
We can’t let this McCain’s past be swept under the rug too. He will be a horrible president, continuing to take away our rights and planning to attack Iran.
