Palin To McCain: “Take The Gloves Off”

October 6th, 2008, 12:06 PM EDT

That’s what the Alaska governor told Bill Kristol her advice is for McCain’s second debate with Barack Obama.  And Kristol agrees, writing, “Hockey mom knows best.”  “Take the gloves off” apparently means bring up Bill Ayres and claim that Obama should be disqualfied from seeking the presidency because of his comment that civilians are being killed in Afghanistan.

But McCain has already heeded this suggestion, as his new ad calls Obama  “dishonorable” and “too risky for America.”

The Obama campaign is thankfully responding to these slurs immediately and forcefully.  They’ve put out a statement by John B. Nathman, a four star Navy admiral who served as Vice Chief of Naval Operations and Commander, Fleet Forces:

“As a recently retired Admiral, I know who has the strongest record of supporting the men and women currently serving in our military. Senator Obama has consistently voted to fund our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq and, just as importantly, a proven record of support when they return home. That’s why independent veterans organizations give Senator Obama higher marks than Senator McCain. Despite consistent distortions of his record, thousands of veterans like myself support Senator Obama because he has the judgment, character and integrity to be a great president. We will need a great president to lead us in these very challenging times.”

As for Sarah Palin’s continual knocks on the “mainstream media”, the New York Times has written of the Obama-Ayers connection 18 times.  Now, with Palin questioning the McCain decision to abandon Michigan and offering him debate advice, one has to wonder just who is in charge in McCainLand.

Responses to this post...

  1. MCCAIN: “Uh, I, I just have to rely on the good judgment of the voters not to buy into these negative attack ads. Sooner or later, people are going to figure out if all you run is negative attack ads you don’t have much of a vision for the future or you’re not ready to articulate it.” [The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, 2/21/2000]

  2. Gee, didn’t McCain state repeatedly he wasn’t in favor of the last vets benefits bill?
Oh, what is the rating the vetrens organizations give McCain versus Obama….any guesses beyond the VFW? I’m talking about recent vets from Iraq, Afganistan, and the 1991 Gulf War.

  3. Where does McCain stand on homeless vets?
Where does McCain stand on helping reserve families with debt management and bankruptcy?
Where does McCain stand on funding vet hospitals…and why hasn’t he sponsored a bill to increase funding to meet the increased needs due to the Iraq war?
What concrete things has McCain done to support his stated “maverick” status on torture?

  4. The McCain camp is desperate. They know they can’t win on the real issues, which is what the Obama camp really wants to talk about. So it’s attack, attack, attack! This shows how lacking in ideas they really are, and how “honorable” the real John McCain is.

  5. Didn’t I hear of several ongoing investigations about civilian deaths in Afganistan due to “collateral” damage?
Did the president of Afganistan recently address his conerns for “unnecessary civilian casualties” from artillery and bombing with President Bush and even (gag) Pailn?
I wonder if Barrak was onto something…..again.

  6. ‘Even CFOs who have benefited from the low dollar by expanding their businesses into international markets acknowledge that the weak currency’s link to inflation is a concern. “Having a deflated currency is not exactly where you want to be,” says Rob BonGiovanni, the recently retired CFO of Curtiss-Wright Flow Control.’

The retired CFO of Curtiss-Wright says a deflated currency isn’t exactly where you want to be, but, CFO’s benefit by expanding internationally.

When Obama shrinks our dollar to zero, then how will that hurt Curtiss-Wright? Oh, here you go:

“Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW) announced today that Admiral (Ret.) John B. Nathman has been named to its Board of Directors. During his thirty-seven year career with the U.S. Navy, Admiral Nathman held a variety of positions in naval air and sea-based operations, finishing his service as Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command.”

    And what is Curtiss-Wright?

A: With manufacturing facilities around the world, Curtiss-Wright Controls is a leading technology-based organization providing niche motion control products, subsystems and services internationally for the aerospace and defense markets.

  7. Mason,

Bush’s Fed has been devaluing the dollar for quite some time. If Admiral Nathman were throwing his allegiance to whomever might shrink the dollar, he would be all for McCain.

Your argument does not hold water.

  8. Good grief…is that obscure or what? I agree, the argument is weak (at best).

  9. I would call upon Senator Obama to tell the lads
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUEQz5dltmI
to take off the blue shirts and cammies and slip into something a little less fascist.
Or have the lessons of the previous century escaped us all?

  10. fascism is the corperate takeover of a government….I doubt if Obama would ever be involved is such a movement.
Nice try, but it’s more “yelp and yawn”

  11. After reviewing your referenced video…
The kids didn’t seem to be aspiring to be gang leaders. I didn’t hear a word of violence. I saw some kids getting their 15 minutes of fame (thanks to folks like you) with nothing more than their own ambitions. If they want to aspire to be lawyers, firefighters, technical enginneers; and espouse such disastrous character traits like personal responsibility…well, we ought to be proud of them rather than suggest they are some subversive group. If you believe they are subversive, we better lock up the boy scouts and girl scouts.

  12. Again,
I challenge you right wing war fans…
Where does McCain stand on homeless vets?
Where does McCain stand on helping reserve families with debt management and bankruptcy?
Where does McCain stand on funding vet hospitals…and why hasn’t he sponsored a bill to increase funding to meet the increased needs due to the Iraq war?
What concrete things has McCain done to support his stated “maverick” status on torture?

  13. Obama as head of the CAC funded Ayer’s education plans. The Obama camp has acted like the two barely knew each other, and that is not the case. Now Obama is saying he didn’t even know Ayers was what he was? What kind of explanation is that?

Brining up facts is not mudslinging. Sometimes the truth hurts. The Keating 5 happened we all know that.

VP’s traditionally take on the roll of attack-dog. I don’t think that is anything new. The only difference is, a woman is doing it this time.

  14. Do you REALLY want this masn to be commander in chief?

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/2008/10/mccain_fudges_his_navy_record.html

In his autobiography, McCain recalls another mishap around December 1961 when “I knocked down some power lines while flying too low over southern Spain. My daredevil clowning had cut off electricity to a great many Spanish homes and created a small international incident.” He landed his Skyraider back on the USS Intrepid after the incident, which does not appear to have triggered a safety investigation.

    http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5gira3krUmnRmrh18WGOQaGEKC6Bw

US presidential hopeful John McCain was prone to mistakes during his time as a Navy pilot, and if today’s standards were applied, his career may have ended in a hard landing, according to a report Monday by The Los Angeles Times.

    http://www.lvrj.com/news/30483079.html

PHOENIX — Frustrated that a massive telescope project he backed had hit a snag in 1989, Sen. John McCain lashed out at a U.S. Forest Service supervisor, threatening his job if he failed to help get approval for the project.

McCain over the years denied making the menacing comment, but newly surfaced government documents indicate that his anger boiled over to the point where he did.

  15. who cares about Ayers? Check the voters…they don’t as they react to the crap being thrown. The whole Ayers thing is pointless…it is just smear.

  16. name one daily tracking poll that has likely voters reacting positively to the McCain smear campaign tactics?

And, John was right….they are rejecting the attacks. Fear of addressing the economic disaster we are facing is just not cutting it with the voters…they want to know what McCain means by “shaking up Washington” to benefit the middle class. They want to know how his economic plans will directly affect theirs lives. They want to know how McCain’s medical plan will work when they have to change jobs, have to get new insurance, and are rejected because of pre existing conditions and/or are declined because of “chronic conditions”?

  18. If something is truth it can only hurt those on the wrong side of it. To me a smear is something that is an untruth spoken to defame another.

Don’t gripe about this being a smear tactic, especially when you consider the unrelenting bombardment Governor Palin’s personal life has taken these past few weeks.

I only wish the gloves would have been taken off sooner.

  19. I think your definition completely fits the Ayers attack.
“To me a smear is something that is an untruth spoken to defame another.”
The untruth is the relevance of the association and the implication that they are “pals”….straight lie.

Why would I “gripe” when I can crow about the ridiculousness of the whole Ayers attack?

As for Palin and the attacks on her…I blame McCain for putting the post turtle up there.

  20. Robert,

It isn’t guilt by association it is guilt by participation. They were pals. Ayers launched Obama’s political career in his home at a dinner for crying out loud. Do you have dinner with someone you don’t know at their home? NO. The fact that he has to distance himself from most everyone in his past says a LOT about the character of his friends and his own character.

  21. And, this has to do with any relevant issue in the campaign?
Is this going to affect the economy, national security, foreign relations, ending the war, improving the legislative sensitivity to the needs of the people???

  22. Hillary brought up Ayers and it didn’t work. Now Palin/McCain think that it will matter now? It really is pathetic. What about Rev. Wright? Wait! How can Obama go to a christian church if he’s a muslim? Pathetic attempts. How’s McCain doing in the polls? How about the Michigan polls?

  23. I dunno. I have a catholic friend who attends a baptist church. I didn’t know churches screen people as they walk through the door to see what religious persuasion they lean toward.

It does matter to a lot of people. It just doesn’t matter to you.

  24. Guilt by association was a chief charge for the French Revolution…..if that were the case, every photo of someone standing with a dictator probably believes in the same things as that dictator…..right? (before you reply, be sure to remember all the photos of presidents and others with Saddam and many many others of his ilk)

  25. The radical right is turning into a parody of itself.

“My guns have kept the tyrants from stealing our freedom.”

You got as many guns as David Koresh? They did him a lot of good too.

“My Bible is the same one this nation was founded on.”

Then you’re either Episcopal or Presbyterian, because that’s who the founders were.

    “They were pals.”

    No they weren’t.

The difference is in this case is that I don’t believe you will find one instance of Obama or Biden saying anything negative about Palin. If you find something, please let me know. Biden went out of his way never to even mention Palin during the debate. Anything you want to call a smear against Palin was done by bloggers, columnists, or tv personalities.

  28. Ayers launched Obama’s political career in his home at a dinner for crying out loud. Do you have dinner with someone you don’t know at their home? NO.

I’m not too familiar with the whole Ayers/Obama thing, but just responding to the above post, Political Fundraisers are very frequently held in contributors homes. I’ve been to some at homes where I didn’t know the hosts personally. How exactly does a dinner launch a politial career? He gave Obama money? Sounds like grasping at straws – people donate to candidates all the time, doesn’t make one your ‘pal’.

  29. No one’s in charge of McCainLand. I vote to keep it that way. It’s doing nothing but helping move Obama/Biden into office.

I really like what Nathman has to say here. I honor McCain’s military service, but being a military hero doesn’t prove that you support the military. What actually proves that (as a member of our legislature) is your ACTIONS regarding legislation for our troops. That’s the only thing that matters when it comes to determining who “cares” more for the military.

  30. Ayers has nothing on Liddy.

Incidentally, I thought it was always best to try to keep civilian casualties to a minimum? What’s so dishonorable about questioning the killing of innocent civilians?

And why else would Republicans vote against funding the troops? Was more money for Halliburton NOT included?

The ad just doesn’t make sense.

Agnes, you sound just like the radical Muslims who also are ruled by Guns, God, and fear of gays.

You would fit in nicely in Saudi Arabia.

And why don’t you tell that to all the women who lost their lives or limbs for the war of the chickenhawks who love to send other people’s kids to war, they won’t fight in themselves.

  33. This is obviously a desperate attempt by the GOP. They now they are losing so instead of bowing out gracefully, they want to take their ball and go home. Taking off the gloves would only expose them. As the saying goes, those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Just because the Obama camp hasn’t spent money on ads about Troopergate, Her Alledged affair, Her Ties to the AIP, The Witchdoctor she had Pray over her, McCains ties to an Anti-semite organization, his blunders in the military, his giving up of military secrets when he was captured, Keating 5 Scandal, His infidelity….on and on…doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen and the American people don’t know about it.

If they had something of substance to offer the American people they would use that. For all you that are living the lie, just know, you have less than a month and no ad, no smear, no blog can stop it. The”Change” is coming in less than thirty days and there is nothing you can do about it.

  35. Yup…Senator John ‘Captain Queeg’ McCAINE didn’t bother to show up and vote on the new GI Bill that restored the promise made to veterans after WW II. Nevermind that Senator McCAINE was against the more comprehensive proposal made by Democrats and supported by Senator Obama. Senator McCAINE didn’t even bother to vote for the legislation that was passed; he opposed it because he believed better access to college education by veterans would hamper recruiting and retention rates. Gee John, thanks for stabbing us in the back; we forgive you though, we know you’re a POW to the far right.

  36. OldLefty,

Since you have a problem with “chickenhawks” how many of the democrats serving in public office have been in the military/have kids in the military? It isn’t one side as you always try to make it seem.

The other people’s kids you are talking about volunteered to proudly serve in the military. Volunteered, not forced like some countries.

  37. Rick,

She is stating a fact. Obama did pal around with ayers. How is that a smear? She’s not saying obama is a muslim, etc. like many have. She stated a fact. If you think that is a smear, there must be something to the story.

  38. From Robert Blair’s post: They want to know how McCain’s medical plan will work when they have to change jobs, have to get new insurance, and are rejected because of pre existing conditions and/or are declined because of “chronic conditions”?

I read Obama’s website and I don’t recall finding verbiage that indicated how he was going to facilitate getting rid of the pre-existing/chronic conditions bias with regard to eligibility for health insurance. Is he intending on passing preventive legislation agains this type of unfair bias?

One other question that I was trying to find the answer to on his website is: Will there be any ‘preference’ given to one person over another with regard to who gets benefits first? The reason I ask this is because the way the job-family services at the state level works is incredibly biased and unfair – if a woman loses her job and thus her health insurance due to serious disease AND the woman is not pregnant AND the woman is not expected to die within 6 months, she is not eligible for immediate assistance but the able-bodied woman in line behind her bragging about the upcoming birth to her 5th child gets coverage. Will Obama’s plan address these inequities?

Anyone who cares to address… I appreciate it. Thanks.

  39. To Rise.
Not trying to do any attack back but you raise a good question so I hope I can help My interpretation of the plan is that it is a “New Plan” so that it would not require any new legislation to change old health care plans. I don’t know if you noticed it, but on the Obama page that has a summary, there is a PDF file that goes into detail about the plan more than the website if that helps.

I’m not Agnes… but… that’s an interesting question. It even made me ask “Why couldn’t he have just changed his mind?” That’s a question I will be doing some research on for my own benefit so that I know the scripture references.

My first response though would be: God is a holy God who hates sin but loves the sinner. He couldn’t be in fellowship with man because of their fall from grace so He imposed a bunch of rules… and I admit completely that I don’t understand why … but then He realized that people couldn’t live under these laws, and the relationship He wanted with mankind was not one of love but one of duty; therefore He took on humanity in the form of His son Jesus and allowed the full punishment of our sins to be upon His son, rather than us and we entered into the era of grace. I understand that it’s hard to believe anyone with more than a couple brain cells would believe such “nonsense” but I’ve lived on both sides of the fence and I have to say I have greater peace in believing than not.

    Have a great day, Craig.

  43. Hey Rise,

I found a couple of points on the Obama site that might be relevant to your daughter’s situation:

Require insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions so all Americans regardless of their health status or history can get comprehensive benefits at fair and stable premiums.

Establish a National Health Insurance Exchange with a range of private insurance options as well as a new public plan based on benefits available to members of Congress that will allow individuals and small businesses to buy affordable health coverage.

There are many more details on the site

    http://www.barackobama.com/issues/healthcare/#make_health_insurance_work

McCain has some stuff on his site too about his health care plan.

  44. Obama has never served in the US Milatary.nor has Biden Pelosi Harry Reed.
Obama has lied every time he is confronted. Why dont you liberals answer this question without attacking. Why is their 250 million dollars from the middle east countries Saudi and Iran going into Obama’s campaign.
This is not only illegal but they are trying to infiltrate our white house. Whether you are liberal or conservitive this is a national security alarm.

  45. Obvious these Islamic facist expect a very big dividend for the money. Just look at the history of Obama, His college tution paid by Muslim who is now on terrorist list. Friends with Hamas and receives money from them. William Ayers Farakhan Wright Resko do I need to say more. Acorn code pink

  46. Rise’, Consumer Reports has an interesting story about the McCain-Obama plans in it, and how they apply in some cases (a single story would never be able to cover all cases).

From the way it sounds, McCain’s plan would be a windfall for insurance companies and businesses.

McCain is counting on employers applying the money they would’ve spent on our insurance, to our paychecks. (fat chance)

He’s also counting on increased competition among health insurance companies because of the increased numbers of all of us who are flailing about, looking for health plans that are inexpensive, yet providing as full coverage as possible. (again, fat chance. the insurance companies know they have us by the short and curlies.)

At the end of the day, you’d better hope your individual plan is as comprehensive as it was under your employer, if you’ve got to spend $200-$400 a month. (fat chance, since businesses often have more bargaining power than individual policy owners.)

McCain’s plan also isn’t connected to the rising cost of health care, which far surpasses the CPI.

Now, to BE FAIR, both plans lack significant details. And I’m gonna be honest, McCain’s plan, to me, seems more comprehendable, but it’s also pretty scary. There’s absolutely no reason to put our trust in either employers or insurance companies doing the “right thing” by American citizens.

Which is another reason why we should look at adapting Canada’s health care program to our own country, instead of playing Jenga with the current broken system.

  47. I have to admit I am a liberal and I am very concerned about these revelations. I am having second thoughts about him. Ralph Nader is looking very clean and good right now. I lost 38 friends on 9-11 and was in the towers just minutes before it collapsed

  48. Better acknowledge Common Dreams, the site I lifted that list from.

  49. Agnes, the Bush family had dealings with Osama bin Laden’s family, for pete’s sake.

BTW, it’s one thing not to serve in the war, but quite another NOT TO SERVE AND, at the same time,

wage a war on phony pretexts,
underfund troops and overfund buddy contractors, and Swift Boat another veteran’s service.

  50. Agnes,
The Bush family are the closest friends with the Saudi’s. They have never denied it. Maybe you should check your facts. Obama just had to report his campain earnings to the government. Which all came from donations. Just because you make up a story that sounds scary, doesn’t mean that anyone will believe it. I haven’t seen any proof of any money from the Saudi’s connected with any candidate and I am sure you can’t produce any. So please, it’s one thing to have a side to an issue, but if you are going to say the Santa and the Easter Bunny are real, you should direct yourself to the Nick Jr. website where the other children are.

  51. UM Cara, Sarah & Thinkbeforeyourspeak,

Thanks for the information. It’s no secret that I’m a conservative but I have to weigh all the options of what might be best for my girl – and UM Cara, it speaks highly of you that you remember from a prior post in another thread about by daughter; you have my respect for many reasons.

On election day if my daughter is not on a group then the 63 days allowed by HIPPA will have expired. No one will sell us a private policy so, forgive my bluntness, but we will be screwed.

    Thanks again for your input!

  52. RNC to File FEC Complaint on Obama Fundraising Practices
    By Matthew Mosk
A lawyer for the Republican National Committee today said the party will ask the Federal Election Commission to look into the source of thousands of small-dollar contributions to the presidential campaign of Sen. Barack Obama.

The RNC is alleging that the Obama campaign was so hungry for donations it “looked the other way” as contributions piled up from suspicious, and possibly even illegal foreign donors.

“We believe that the American people should know first and foremost if foreign money is pouring into a presidential election,” said RNC Chief Counsel Sean Cairncross.

Cairncross alleged there was mounting evidence of this, and cited a report in the current issue of Newsweek magazine that documents a handful of instances where donors made repeated small donations using fake names, such as “Good Will” and “Doodad Pro.”

The Newsweek report says that earlier this year the Obama campaign returned $33,000 to two Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip who had bought T-shirts in bulk from the campaign’s online store — purchases that count as campaign contributions. The brothers had listed their address as “Ga.,” which the campaign took to mean Georgia rather than Gaza.

“While no organization is completely protected from Internet fraud, we will continue to review our fundraising procedures,” Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt told the magazine.

At the heart of the RNC complaint is a federal fundraising rule that lets campaigns accept donations under $200 without itemizing the names and addresses of the donors on its campaign finance reports. The rule was intended as a matter of practicality — it did not seem reasonable to ask a campaign to gather that information from every five-dollar donor.

But the Obama campaign has raised more than $200 million this way, a staggering sum for donations that will not be subjected to outside scrutiny.

Obama campaign aides said today that a number of steps have been taken to safeguard against foreign or illegal contributions coming in in smaller increments. The measures include: requiring donors to present a passport at fundraising events held for Americans overseas, ending contributions to the Obama Store from contributors with addresses outside the U.S. or its territories, and requiring donors to enter a U.S. passport number when contributing via the Americans Abroad page.

“When we were made aware of an ad for a Nigerians for Obama fundraiser in a Nigerian paper, our attorneys sent a letter to the paper making it clear the event had nothing to do with our campaign, and that we would not accept contributions from the event,” one Obama aide said.

And aides note that Sen. John McCain had his own foreign fundraising issues, having been forced to refund about $50,000 in donations solicited by Jordanian Mustafa Abu Naba’a, who was raising money on behalf of one of McCain’s top Florida bundlers.

  53. Sarah, look at this:

Then tell me about going “wage a war on phony pretexts”.
You people all act like Saddam was some kind of saint. Remember, Germany did not bomb Pearl Harbor, but we declared war omn them because of their current (1941) behavior.

  54. No one on the left believes tha Sadaam was better than any other brutal dictator that the right loves as long as they make money with them.

    The REAL thing is this:

What You Need To Believe To Be A Republican Today:

~ Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.

~ Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush’s daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a “we can’t find Bin Laden” diversion.

~ Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

~ The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.

~ A woman can’t be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

~ Global warming and tobacco’s link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

~ A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

~ Give everyone “government cheese”. Wait a minute, we cant all eat government cheese, someone has to get up in the morning and make the government chhese…

~ Americans living are causing global warming, regardless of the fact that temperatures have stabilized.

~ Hunting is evil, we should all eat stirofoam to protect the animals and reverse global warming.

    Two can play this game…

  57. What You Need To Believe To Be A Republican Today:

~ Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.

Jesus doesn’t hate people, he hates the sinful acts of people and it doesn’t matter if it’s a homosexual act, a heterosexual adulterous affair, a couple of back-stabbing gossipers, or greedy businessmen who bleed a country dry.

I’m sorry people have portrayed Christ to you in such a distasteful manner. Have a good evening.

  58. Brent
You are fantastick I could not have said it better. Their is 40 million Americans that do not pay taxes that vote. The liberals usually are the ones who do not pay taxes but want to spend your hard earned money. Obama and Biden combined since 1994 charitable donations were less than Sara Palins for 2007

  59. Yep. Obama seems to be getting money from a lot of strange places.

An auditor for the Federal Election Commission is attempting to have his bosses seek a formal investigation into the collection by the Obama for President campaign of more than $200 million in potentially illegal political donations, including millions of dollars of illegal, foreign donations, and has sought a request for assistance from the Department of Justice or Federal Bureau of Investigation. But the analyst’s requests have largely been ignored. “I can’t get anyone to move. I believe we are looking at a hijacking of our political system that makes the Clinton and Gore fundraising scandals pale in comparison. And no one here wants to touch it.”

One reasons cited by his superiors, says the analyst, is that involvement by the Justice Department or FBI would be indicative of a criminal investigation, something the FEC would prefer not take place a month before the presidential election. Such actions, though, have been used to scuttle Republican campaigns in the past, the most famous being the Weinberger case in the days leading up to the 1992 re-election bid of President George H.W. Bush.

The analyst, who declines to be identified for fear of retribution, says that on four different occasions in the past three months, he sought to open formal investigations into the Obama campaign’s fundraising techniques, but those investigations have been discouraged. “Without formal approval, I can’t get the resources I need, manpower, that kind of thing. This is a huge undertaking.” And the analyst says that he believes that campaign finance violations have occurred.

The Obama campaign seems to be getting huge amounts of money.
More than half of the whopping $426.9 million Barack Obama has raised has come from small donors whose names the Obama campaign won’t disclose.

And questions have arisen about millions more in foreign donations the Obama campaign has received that apparently have not been vetted as legitimate.

Obama has raised nearly twice that of John McCain’s campaign, according to new campaign finance report.

But because of Obama’s high expenses during the hotly contested Democratic primary season and an early decision to forgo public campaign money and the spending limits it imposes, all that cash has not translated into a financial advantage — at least, not yet.

We do have some of the names and they seem like some very nice people.
When FEC auditors have questions about contributions, they send letters to the campaign’s finance committee requesting additional information, such as the complete address or employment status of the donor.

Many of the FEC letters that Newsmax reviewed instructed the Obama campaign to “redesignate” contributions in excess of the finance limits.

Under campaign finance laws, an individual can donate $2,300 to a candidate for federal office in both the primary and general election, for a total of $4,600. If a donor has topped the limit in the primary, the campaign can “redesignate” the contribution to the general election on its books.

In a letter dated June 25, 2008, the FEC asked the Obama campaign to verify a series of $25 donations from a contributor identified as “Will, Good” from Austin, Texas.

Mr. Good Will listed his employer as “Loving” and his profession as “You.”

A Newsmax analysis of the 1.4 million individual contributions in the latest master file for the Obama campaign discovered 1,000 separate entries for Mr. Good Will, most of them for $25.

In total, Mr. Good Will gave $17,375.

Following this and subsequent FEC requests, campaign records show that 330 contributions from Mr. Good Will were credited back to a credit card. But the most recent report, filed on Sept. 20, showed a net cumulative balance of $8,950 — still well over the $4,600 limit.

There can be no doubt that the Obama campaign noticed these contributions, since Obama’s Sept. 20 report specified that Good Will’s cumulative contributions since the beginning of the campaign were $9,375.

In an e-mailed response to a query from Newsmax, Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt pledged that the campaign would return the donations. But given the slowness with which the campaign has responded to earlier FEC queries, there’s no guarantee that the money will be returned before the Nov. 4 election.

Similarly, a donor identified as “Pro, Doodad,” from “Nando, NY,” gave $19,500 in 786 separate donations, most of them for $25. For most of these donations, Mr. Doodad Pro listed his employer as “Loving” and his profession as “You,” just as Good Will had done.

The Obama campaign has also received contributions from some people who are not very nice.
US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was apparently the recipient of nearly $30,000 in campaign contributions from a pair of Palestinian Arabs in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.

While recently investigating online campaign contribution logs, Pamela Geller of the blog Atlas Shrugs discovered a curious set of entries from mid-2007 showing a series of contributions from two Arab men who listed their place of residence as “Rafah, GA.”

Skeptical about the existence of a town in Georgia called Rafah, Geller did some digging and discovered that the contributions had in fact come from the Gaza Strip border town of Rafah.

It is illegal for a US presidential candidate to receive contributions from non-US citizens, or to receive in excess of $2,300 from a single individual.

Curious for more information, WorldNetDaily correspondent Aaron Klein tracked down the two Gaza Arabs, brothers Monir and Hosam Edwan.

The Edwan brothers said that they and many other Palestinians love Obama, and are confident he will be the US president to force Israel to surrender land for the birth of a Palestinian Arab state.

When pressed about their illegal contribution, the brothers altered their story and insisted that they had not made an online donation, but had rather purchased $30,000 worth of t-shirts from the Obama campaign website.

WorldNetDaily also learned that while Monir and Hosam are themselves believed to be non-religious, their clan is known for supporting Hamas.

That Obama has some very interesting supporters. If he wins the election I sure hope it works out well for all of us, but what I’m thinking is are all his supporters going to get their money’s worth? I hope not.

  60. Joan, some of my best friends (including my best friend) are Blue-Dogs (I am a centrist republican). We all want the same thing. Keep fighting.

  61. Islamic muslims cut heads off- mutilate woman- do not allow woman to have rights. they are suicide bombers-
kill fellow muslims-murder children- love to use car bombs on civilians and
send Barrack HUSSAN OBAMA 200 million dollars in small donations to hide it from investorgators. What do they have in common with HUSSAIN OBAMA THAT THEY WANT TO PAY OVER 200 MILLION DOLLARS FOR? IT IS VERY OBVIOUS. I WISH THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY WOULD GO BACK TO ITS ROOTS. ZELL MILLER WARNED US. JOE LIBERMAN WARNED US.

  62. Berg vs Obama: Obama and DNC File Motion to Delay Discovery
    http://www.americasright.com ^ | 10/06/08 | Jeff Schrieber

TWO FILINGS: Berg Files Motion for Leave to File Amended Complaint, Obama and DNC File Motion to Delay Discovery Until Judge Decides on Prior Motion to Dismiss

It was a busy day in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania today. First, attorney Philip Berg files a motion asking the court to permit him to file an amended complaint with several additions, and then next, attorneys for Barack Obama and the DNC file a motion asking the court for a protective order, essentially asking that the judge rule on their motion to dismiss for lack of standing before ruling on Berg’s motion for expedited discovery.

Bear with me, here. Geez, I wish I could just do this for a full-time job — it would be so much easier without all this other stuff (work, school, etc.) in the way!

Keep checking back. Due to the amount of information, I may split this up into two separate posts. We’ll see.

    – Jeff

4:45 p.m. — Obama, DNC File Motion for Protective Order

I’ll pretty it up and explain things a little bit better later on this evening, but here’s what’s going on, so far and in brief:

As I was talking with one of my contacts at the courthouse about this motion, my phone rings and it is Philip Berg. He’s fired up. Apparently, he had just been contacted by John LaVelle, attorney for Barack Obama and the DNC, and asked whether he would “put off discovery until Judge Surrick ruled on the motion to dismiss.”

Until I have time to get into this more specifically, here’s the rub:

Basically, the law states that Judge Surrick can order discovery even in the face of a pending dispositive motion such as the motion to dismiss filed on September 24 by Obama and the DNC. In other words, he can order full discovery, limited discovery, or none at all before ruling on the dismissal. The attorneys for Obama and the DNC, however, just filed a motion asking for a protective order stopping “all discovery in this action pending the Court’s decision on defendant’s motion to dismiss the action for lack of subject matter jurisdiction and for failure to state a claim upon which relief can be granted.”

Just like with the amended complaint, an attorney cannot simply file a protective order but must file a motion for one, essentially asking the court to issue one. Make sense so far? That’s what this is — defense attorney John LaVelle filed such a motion this afternoon, a motion asking the judge to issue a protective order which would allow for a ruling to come down on the motion to dismiss before the commencement of any discovery.

Obviously the first reaction is “what do they have to hide?” or something along those lines. Rule 26(c) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure provides authorization to the court for just such a matter, ostensibly to protect one of the parties from embarrassment or oppression or the like. I’m sure there’s some case law on it as well. Still, even knowing the rules, I will admit that my first reaction was one of suspicion.

As for Philip Berg, while he and I will chat later on, here’s a snippet of what he had to say in our brief conversation:

“He’s asking to delay discovery and, Jeff, I’m obviously going to oppose it, ” he said. “This isn’t right. This just isn’t right. By tomorrow, we’ll have a response and put out a press release. The American people should hear about this and, if they do, they should go nuts. It’s time to put up or shut up.”

  63. The more we see John Mccain get angry, the more he proves to the american people that he will do anything to become president.Common sence tell you to vote for a canidate with wisdom.G.W.bush,John Mccain/Sarah Palin does all this talk about experience, but none of them has any education or understanding on common sence.Keep up the good work on smearing Obama, because you guys don’t have sence to know, thats exactly what the democratics want you dummys to do.It’s a million ways to skinn a cat, without cutting his head off.Opps, I mean moose. One day we as the american people will get it right. Common sence trummps RACE,GENDER and FOLKSY attitude.

  64. What does Obama have to hide? If his birth certificate say he is a US citizen than produce it. Why would he fight this? The more he stalls the more it smells bad for us. If he isnt a citizen than maybe Hilliary can jump in.

  65. K9, Obama will “not say anything” in order to not lose votes. Why did he answer “Above my paygrade?” Answer-to AVOID losing voters from either side of the issue. This is how left wing politicians act when going for a position not dominated by their ideology, like the President of the United States.
Where was Oblahblah during the financial crisis? (crickets chirping) I realize the crisis is ongoing, by the way.
The Republicans won the congress in ‘94 by providing a plan for the future; the dems are trying to win by pointing fingers at the other side (Farside cartoon with the 2 bears).
Oblather has nothing outside of “Hope and Change”.

  66. After reading about the Two Hundred Million dollars slipped under the radar to Obama. All I can say the money came from the same people who brought us Sept 11th. This money has blood on it. The FBI is inveatigating.

  68. Obama isn’t hiding. That is garbage and more distraction tactics…and it’s old news. Rev Wright = old news. Ayers = old news. Checking the donations for foreign ties….old news and a big waste of time…both camps have them…it’s a function of the process and when the donations are located, they are eliminated.
It’s all old news….that’s why it isn’t catching. The media is treating it like old news. They are not doing investigations to seek the truth in the charges, they already have and found what they could find……already. It’s old news. As for McCain’s poll numbers dropping, well….that’s old news, too.

  69. yellow dog,

obama had one of the keating 5 at his rally on Sunday in Columbus. Why?

  70. Who left the dogs out? Attack! Attack!- Well if you are going to let your attack dog out, be prepared to get some feedback. This is the last hope for John McNasty, so if he is going to attack Senaor Obama, we need to discuss his running mate’s husband “The First Dude’s association with Joe Vogler(Joe six pack)since he was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party who hates America. Palin’s husband was a member of this party from 1995-2002 and Gov Palin is friendly with them and attended their convention in 1994- which she ignores. Also Alan, just for the record, can you explain to us who the Jew-hating Andy Martin is- the person where your partner Sean Hannity gets his secret information from? Hating someone is one thing, but to say “kill him” at your campaign and not interject that the remark is not acceptable shows what character or lack of that John McNasty has. Well, this may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back!

  71. Thank goodness McCain and Palin are finally taking off the gloves. Like millions of Americans I’ve awaited the truth, while feeling frustration watching Obama get a free ride. Subjects like Wright, Farrakhan, Pfleger, Rezko, Ayers, and others, seem to have been off limits for discussion, when they go to the core of who Obama is. In defense of Obama, the media treats him like a sacred cow, and implies that since these subjects were visited at one time, they’re not fair game to revisit … but, why not? Like millions of Americans I’ve never been comfortable with Obama attending Jeremiah Wright’s church for TWENTY YEARS … suddenly quitting for political expediency, and then claiming that he never heard the racist, anti-American sermons going on there. Also, the Trintity church website has since sanitized it’s previous links on the ‘Black Values System’ … and, the ‘Black Liberation Theology’ which Obama sworn an oath to for TWENTY YEARS.

  72. [...] points is that he accused our military of killing innocent civilians.  John McCain even put out an ad making this claim.  Of course, what Obama actually said was, “We’ve got to get the job done there [...]

  73. Dung…

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world….
