Actually, nobody has the right to demand that one individual who, by virtue of their own effort, earns more income, should pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes.
A tax scheme that penalizes people for earning more is inherantly unfair, and demanding that people who are more successful share their hard-earned income with slackers who make less is socialism or communism, nothing more, nothing less.

Larry Kudlow (one of the great rightwing mouthpieces) announced on CNBC minutes prior to the start of the show that if Ayers or Acorn came up in the debate (while Rome is burning), he’d have to just “throw up his hands”.
I’m listening on the radio but I’ll have to go turn on the satellite TV to watch Larry “throw up his hands”, both Ayers AND Acorn came up.
Obama is winning. Again. Tonight should add 5 points to his polling by tomorrow.

I can’t believe I voted for McCain 4 years ago, his anger and venom, outweighed by his continued “big lies” really makes me wonder how anyone could vote for him. Of course my whole family thinks differently, but they’re crazy, jk family. But seriously, calm, cool, collected Obama wins on the issues, style, and presidentiality once again. No big surprise.

I can’t believe how uninformed MaCain really is. If he is going be bring up Palin and her disabled son, he should at least get the right disability. Tonight, he said that Palin has to deal with her son’s autism. Dud, the baby has Down Syndrome which is caused by an extra chomosome. Autism, they don’t even know the cause, occurs in infancy or childhood is charactized by the person not being able to receive stimuli or express themselves as we do. They don’t bond or form social relationships as we do. People with autism can be very bright while indivduals with Down Symdrome have some form of intellectual disability or mental retardation. The two disabilities have nothing in common- other than being developmental- and to me, it just showed another example of how out of touch and uninformed McCain truly is. I can’t believe the wrap up shows missed McCain, once again, tripping himself up. I am not surprised he doesn’t just topple over.

John McCain made two assertions on corporate taxes, one that small businesses pay 50 percent of the taxes and the other that U.S. corporations are among the highest taxed in the world. Both are wrong.
All corporate income taxes–including giant corporations and the smallest of businesses–account for only about 14 percent of federal revenues raised in the year, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Most federal taxes are paid by individuals, while fees and other taxes make up the rest.
While the official corporate tax is high, compared to other countries, there are so many loopholes in the code that many companies pay little or no taxes. The General Accounting Office reported recently that more than half of U.S. corporations paid no federal income taxes during the boom years of the late 1990s, and those that did were able to shelter much of their income, generally by claiming deductions and credits.
The GAO report showed that 61 percent of U.S. corporations paid no federal income taxes from 1996 through 2000, a period of rapid economic growth and rising corporate profits.
An estimated 94 percent of U.S. corporations reported tax liabilities amounting to less than 5 percent of their total income in 2000. Indeed, small corporations were more likely to avoid taxation than large ones, the GAO said.

Only a leftwing loon would say Obama won this debate. He just stuck to the same talking points as always, was completely boring, had no memorable lines as usual, and stayed on the defensive. He spent most of his time trying to explain away things he was caught in the corner and promising that he was nothing like his record, a protectionist tax hiking big government socialist who only supports a leftwing judiciary. Thats not any kind of change for the better and he was called on it, he is a leftist and only his leftist zombies would get a hard on over such an abysmal performance. I can’t get excited about someone who thinks three mediocre performances is adequate for creating a favorable impression, were it not for his friends Barney Frank and George Soros + Warren Buffet destroying the financial markets he would be a leaf in the wind. This says a lot about his future as a possible president, a man who sits back and looks for others to blame who never takes credit for owning up to mistakes, and has no impressive merits other than performing a lip synched speech in front of his brainwashed worshippers. “Spread the wealth around”. I work in an industry (fast food) that most people think is beneath them. Shortly after starting my career, I became an upper management person, making one and ONE HALF TIMES the median family income for my area. I had bonus checks (these are over and above my base income) that were almost $10,000.
There are people in my own family who would never work in my industry. There are also many people in my area and other cities across the nation who would never “stoop so low” as to work in my industry. I have (a LOT) more money than many of these people do. Should I be taxed more and have to give my money away to people who WON’T do my job?
My industry requires long, long hours and around-the-clock dedication. I have worked very, very hard for almost 20 years. I think I deserve to KEEP my income.

If you made $250,000 or more and tried to get a job in your industry for someone “less fortunate” (maybe you brought them an application, or set up an interview for them) and they turned up their nose at the job and told you flat out that they absolutely would NOT work in that job, would you be willing to let your money go to this person? After all, this is the type of person that I’m talking about; people who absolutely WON’T work at a job in my industry, no matter what. And they have less money because of it.
I know a young couple who is LIVING IN THEIR CAR because they absolutely WILL NOT take a job in my industry. They’d rather be homeless. Should I give them my money?

I think the entire tax code should be scrapped. As it is now, slackers who have never produced anything worthwile, nor created any growth to our economy are engaging in envy-driven class warfare against the very successful people who do create wealth and grow the economy.
The fundamental question is why do liberals believe it is FAIR to tax peope at a higher rate who are successful at what they do?
The only possible conclusion is that liberals are inherantly envious of the wealth created by successful people, and they believe that they have the right to PENALIZE SUCCESS with their socialist/communistic viewpoints.

I believe the entire current tax code should be scrapped.
Currently, our tax code penalizes people who are successful in their occupations and rewards slackers who are inherantly a drain on our economy.
Successful people who create wealth, create jobs and grow the economy are penalized for their success by the burden of a higher tax rate. Slackers who are not successful in life are simply a burden on our economy, and are currently not taxed.
A flat tax, payable at the same rate by all citizens would stop this inherently unfair tax issue.
Nobody in society should get a free ride at other’s expense, and success should never be penalized by a higher tax rate.
Only liberals, with their socialistic/communistic viewpoints believe that successful people should be penalized for being successful.

The Republicans were looking for a “Joe”, and the heavens sent one. First it was “Joe Sixpack”, now it’s “Joe the Plumber”, who is a real person.
This Joe in the standoff with Obama has very strong racial overtones. Obama, the liberal black candidate vs. Joe, the conservative middle-class white guy in a battle over class struggle “spread the wealth around”.
Joe will be played up big time. And working class white men is the demo Obama struggled with mostly in the primaries vs. Hillary.

Anyone who wishes to donate money to those less fortunate than themselves has a multitude of ways to do so.
What seems to be beyond the comprehension of most liberals/socialists/communists is the difference between voluntary contributions or compulsion through threat of imprisionment that comes with an oppressive tax system.
I have yet to have even ONE LIBERAL explain why it is FAIR to tax one person at a certain percentage and a more successful person at a higher percentage of income.

Because you don’t live on an island by yourself. You didn’t earn what you earned strictly by your own effort. You have an entire country of people around you and without the rest of us, past and present, helping to make your “success” possible, you’d be off in the woods hunting down your next meal with a wooden club.

Sen. Obama won hands down again. Sen. McCain continues to show how angry and old he is. His facial expressions say it all. He was angry in his comments and still trying to take jabs after talking about how he thought the campaign was ugly, Sen. McCain, only you can stop your ugly campaign. He continued to lie, he never stopped the people from saying those horrible things until recently, and certainly Gov. Palin never said a word either. He really is out of touch if he thinks you can compare Sen. Obamas’ negative ads about Sen. McCains’ health plans (that’s the whole idea) to his negative ads linking him to a terrorist and having his constituents yelling “kill him” and other disgusting things. There is no comparison. Sen. Obama continued to keep his cool, while Sen. McCain continued to look as if he was going to blow his top. Not very Presidential. Maybe now that the answers to his questions about Ayers and ACORN were answered he can move on and stop living in the past like he claims his campaign is all about.

How do Obama’s and McCain’s proposed health plans, housing/mortgage buy backs and economic turnaround proposals in general factor in the huge numbers of legal and illegal aliens residing in the USA?

Ohio elections chief appeals court ruling 36 minutes ago
(AP) COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio’s top elections chief has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene in a dispute over whether the state is required to do more to help counties verify voter eligibility. A spokesman for Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner said Thursday that an appeal has been filed with the high court.
On Tuesday, the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati sided with the Ohio Republican Party and ordered Brunner to set up a system that provides names of newly registered voters whose driver’s license numbers or Social Security numbers don’t match records in other government databases.The GOP contends the information will help prevent fraud.
Brunner, a Democrat, has called the issue a veiled attempt at disenfranchising voters and that other checks exist to help determine eligibility.

I have looked around this morning and have not seen any mention of this. Once again McCain said we should look at Ireland as an example of why the US economy is failing and be more like them.
Ireland: a country that was hit hardest by this economic crisis because of their economic philosophy. A country that has seen a 75% drop in their stock market. A country looking to make an emergency deal with Russia for an economic bailout to avoid bankruptcy… and on and on and on.
This is the country he wants the United States to be more like? If it’s the “economy stupid” I think it’s stupid not to make this the talking point of the next 19 days. I think Obama missed a real opportunity when McCain ignorantly referred to Ireland again last night.
Still, I believe Obama supporters should make this one of their key points when discussing why a McCain economic philosophy will fail.

It turns out that the sound bite from the Joe the plumber conversation (The spread the wealth around part) comes later in the conversation when the plumber said that it seemed like Obama would support a flat tax.
Obama discussed a technical point about the flat tax. He simply restated support for a progressive income tax, not making a larger statement about the economy.
Here’s what Obama said:
“And I do believe for folks like me who have worked hard, but frankly also been lucky, I don’t mind paying just a little bit more than the waitress that I just met over there who’s things are slow and she can barely make the rent. Because my attitude is that if the economy’’s good for folks from the bottom up, it’s gonna be good for everybody.”
“If you’ve got a plumbing business, you’re going to be better off if you’ve got a whole bunch of customers who can afford to hire you, and right now I think everybody’s so pinched that business is bad for everybody and I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody. ” End quote.

Obama won, even though McCain was significantly better than he had been. The lack of grace will hurt McCain, though. No matter what your position, an old guy twitching, sighing and having a near meltdown does NOT look Presidential or particularly winning. If it comes down to charm and personal manners, Obama excelled himself in these debates.

Some things I noted during the debate:
McCain’s facial expressions. Scary as hell. Annoying. Disrespectful.
McCain talking about supreme court judges. He first said there would be no litmus test, then said that of course the people he feels are qualified wouldn’t agree with Roe V Wade. lol
McCain on Abortion: He said the ‘health’ of the Mother, and mocked that idea. Um…what was he thinking? You’re trying to get women voters (specifically Hillary supporters) and you say something like that?!? Hahahaha.
McCain on healthcare: He didn’t get a chance to talk about HIS plan, because he was too busy attacking Obama’s. It was Obama who told us McCain’s plan. Doh!

Schumer, Frank, et.al. all said there was no reason for more regulation. People who work hard (and those who don’t-you know who you are) for their money obviously keeps MOST of it, or they wouldn’t do what they do. Who the hell would.

Did you think that new road, bridge, et al., came down from the sky, like manna from Heaven?
Did you expect the country to educate your children for hamburgers?
All of the above, and countless other things in this country HAVE to be paid for somehow. Those who make very little can’t pay for it all on their own. Most of the tax that poor people pay comes in the form of sales taxes from the goods they buy at YOUR establishments.
Oh, and by the way, you pompous, arrogant, right-wing freaks…I’ll shovel sh*t, if you pay me enough!
In closing, just so you can get a glimpse into the world you want to create, just go down to Haiti, Somalia, The Sudan…on and on…
Just make sure you have your credit card out when you dial 911…they’ll want payment up front, since you don’t want to pay your fair share while living in this free, but imperfect, country.

Derrick, You quote a site that is not credible. This is a comment from your first link; This is really getting silly.
We have one unsourced quote in the Post about Raines having taken a call or two from Obama campaign staffers, we have Obama denying they’ve ever spoken, and Raines denying they ever spoke about the issues he’s quoted in the Post article as having spoken about. There isn’t a shred of evidence or source material anywhere that has Tim Howard ever having any contact with the campaign, and then we have Johnson who spent a week vetting VP candidates before stepping aside amid his emerging controversy. Where is the proof of such intimate ties? Where are the credible sources? Hear-say, viral propagation of rumors, and unsourced quotes don’t count.

derrick, From what I see on your first link, posters are taking issue with the made up facts about Raines. On the second link, A smart poster said this.:

They never even Brought it up for debate! I will suggest other sites than right wing non credible sources to prove stuff. No one takes you seriously, because of your lack of credibility. Obama has more than you.

Actually, nobody has the right to demand that one individual who, by virtue of their own effort, earns more income, should pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes.
A tax scheme that penalizes people for earning more is inherantly unfair, and demanding that people who are more successful share their hard-earned income with slackers who make less is socialism or communism, nothing more, nothing less.
