Palin Has Difficulty Defining Abortion Clinic Bombings As Terrorism

October 24th, 2008, 10:55 AM EDT

Speaking to Brian Williams with John McCain by her side, Sarah Palin wouldn’t acknowledge that when you bomb an abortion clinic you’re conducting domestic terrorism.

“Others who would want to engage in harming in innocent Americans or facilities, that uh, it would be unacceptable to…I don’t know if you’re going to use the word terrorist there.”

Jed has the video.

McCain used this opportunity to take another shot to further define the pro-America parts of America, by a process of elimination.  He tells us where the elites live.

WILLIAMS: Who is a member of the elite?

PALIN: Oh, I guess just people who think that they’re better than anyone else. And– John McCain and I are so committed to serving every American. Hard-working, middle-class Americans who are so desiring of this economy getting put back on the right track. And winning these wars. And America’s starting to reach her potential. And that is opportunity and hope provided everyone equally. So anyone who thinks that they are– I guess– better than anyone else, that’s– that’s my definition of elitism.

WILLIAMS: So it’s not education? It’s not income-based? It’s–

PALIN: Anyone who thinks that they’re better than someone else.

WILLIAMS: –a state of mind? It’s not geography?

PALIN: ‘Course not.

WILLIAMS: Senator?

MCCAIN: I– I know where a lot of ‘em live. (LAUGH)

WILLIAMS: Where’s that?

MCCAIN: Well, in our nation’s capital and New York City. I’ve seen it. I’ve lived there. I know the town. I know– I know what a lot of these elitists are. The ones that she never went to a cocktail party with in Georgetown. I’ll be very frank with you. Who think that they can dictate what they believe to America rather than let Americans decide for themselves.

I guess al Qaeda missed hitting the real America on 9/11.

  2. Oh Alan. Al Qaeda hit SYMBOLS of America.

If you’re going to interpret what McCain meant then so will I.
Elite means snobbery at it’s highest level. I’m sure that there are ‘elites’ in
every town and every state in America – McCain is using the example of
NYC because it typifies where elitist attitudes run rampant.

  3. The only way, off the top of my head, that such an act might not be terrorism, if you take intent into account, is if the act was meant to target one person, so a murder made to look like an act of terrorism. But I assume that’s unlikely.

Whatever the legalese, I am rather broad in my definition of what a terrorist is: one who terrorizes. of course, that’s a low standard, and could have sentences that exceed the crime. A school bully is a terrorist then. But, in a way, he is. You just can’t rendition them.

  5. Obama ‘Morally Justified’ for Votes Against Helping Aborted Babies Born Aliv

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was morally justified to oppose legislation in the Illinois State Senate that would have ensured that a child who survives a failed abortion received medical attention, according to Democratic leaders.
While in the Illinois Senate, Obama opposed three bills that proposed protection in three different legislative votes, a decision that Republican presidential candidate John McCain said was wrong in the last presidential debate.
After the debate, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean said that Obama did the right thing and defended his position.
    Watch the Video.
“If you looked at those little meters, McCain lost that debate,” Schumer told CNSNews.com. “Most Americans are pro-choice. Most Americans don’t want to repeal Roe v. Wade, and I thought Obama was great there. He had his views but he was very respectful of the other side. Sometimes the left is a little too condescending to the other side.”
Earlier this month, CNSNews.com Editor-in-Chief Terry Jeffrey reported that, in 2001, Illinois State Senator Patrick O’Malley introduced three bills to the legislature. One said that if a doctor performing an abortion believed there was a likelihood the baby would survive, another physician must be present “to assess the child’s viability and provide medical care.”
Another bill gave the parents, or a state-appointed guardian, the right to sue to protect the child’s rights. A third bill said that a baby alive after “complete expulsion or extraction from its mother” would be considered a “person, ‘human being,’ ‘child’ and ‘individual.’”
    Obama voted against all three.
During the last presidential debate, Obama responded to McCain’s allegation that his votes aligned him with the most “extreme aspect of the pro-abortion movement in America.”
OBAMA IS A MONSTER FOR VOTING TO MANDATE THE MURDER OF LITTLE INFANTS, BORN ALIVE, HAVING SURVIVED AN ABORTION ATTEMPT!

  6. Hey! Obama did not vote to overturn the already existing law that provides care for aborted babies born alive. He voted against the redhering that tries to overturn Roe vs Wade.

  7. JENIFER,

The ONLY people who believe this are far, far right wing Republicans who would NEVER vote for ANY Democrat anyway,

You guys said different variations of the same things about EVERYONE who ran against you, including John McCain.

Get back to us when you actually know the bill, and why moderate Republicans and the Illinois State Medical Society were with Obama.

GET BACK TO US WHEN YOU CARE AS MUCH ABOUT THE CHILDREN KILLED IN IRAQ, AND THOSE YET TO BE KILLED FROM THE LANDMINES FROM CLUSTER BOMBS!

  8. OLDLEFTY – GET BACK TO US WHEN YOU CARE AS MUCH ABOUT THE INNOCENT CHILDREN KILLED BY SADDAM HUSSEIN WHOSE CONTINUED REIGN OF DICTATORSHIP AND TERROR HAS BEEN ENDED. GET BACK TO US WHEN YOU CARE ABOUT ALL PEOPLE NOT JUST THOSE THAT YOU CAN USE TO SUPPORT YOUR CAUSE.

  9. FRANK,
I was called un-American when I complained about Reagan, and Rumsfeld arming Sadaam, at the same time that they were selling TOW missiles to Iran.

  10. I might be wrong, but I believe “continued” is actually present tense and, therefor, means his dictatorship is on going, which is rather difficult since he is, as also said, dead.

  11. Did you complain about Clinton bombing aspirin factories and airraiding Serbia and Bosnia? Or are you only concerned with right wing initiated atrocities?

  12. I complained about Klingons bombing Romulans. That was wrong.

  13. Oldlefty — Arming the rest of the world is what these nuts call “economic stimulus”.

  14. WFG – Thank you. You can go back to playing with Uranus now.

  15. Nice one.

Actual liberals,(as opposed to centrist Democrats did)did as a matter of fact.

Most think it IS the fruition of Eisenhower’s warning:

“We must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. “

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.

This world in arms is not spending money alone.

It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.

The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities.

It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population.

-Dwight David Eisenhower, “The Chance for Peace,” speech given to the American Society of Newspaper Editors, Apr. 16, 1953.

What a left loony commie, huh?

I guess GT in GA also agrees with that socialist, Ike.

  17. lefty
Let us look at Chavez in Venezula and Castro. They are Left Wing Liberals. It is surpriseing hom many millions vote with their feet to flee the Liberal Doctrine. Look at the bankrupt europe sweeden, canada. The people are kicking out the liberals and voting in conservatives. I dare you to post this. The truth sets us free

  18. Actual liberals,(as opposed to centrist Democrats did)did as a matter of fact.

    - funny, not the way I remember it happening.

Most think it IS the fruition of Eisenhower’s warning:

    - Who are you claiming is the “Most”? Most liberals? Most people? What is IT that is the fuitiion of the warning? The war in Iraq?

  19. Not good on palin’s part.

Old lefty cares about the troops killed in iraq.

Yet, more citizens were murdered in the street os chicago over the summer than troops killed and he didn’t mention that.

You see, to mention the murder rate in chicago would force him to talk about the failing democrat led local government, of which obama was a part of.

Or maybe like I believe, democrats are still the racist party and only care about the white troops being killed and ignore the black deaths in chicago.

  22. Do you think that troops would be in Irak if there were a real army, navy and air force to fight back? I don’t think so ! It’s not a war; it’s an invasion.

  23. Fred,

Whatever you think of Chavez, the people elected him.
Look at the right wing dictators we support in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

In South America, they have had enough of right wing dictators in Bolivia, and Chile…So what?

If you hate Chavez so much, don’t buy his Citgo gas.

Aside from the world market, Swedan and Canada are doing very well, thank you very much.
This is why the euro is worth more than the dollar.

I have no doubt that as any country is left, right, neo con. or neoliberal, things stagnate, and the new wave comes in just as people here get comfortable after years of medicare, and benifits like the GI bill, they become easy prey for fears of the gays, and the liberals are coming to take away your bibles and guns.

As for Europe, What “liberal” policies have the so called conservatives overturned?

What does this have to do with Eisenhower, who I maintain would be called Ultra left by right wingers now?

What is IT that is the fuitiion of the warning? The war in Iraq?
    ……………………………….

    Think about the warning:

“We must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. “

What does that mean to you?

And why would a general, who knew combat issue such a warning?

  26. What was the purpose of asking about abortion bombers. We all know that they’re evil – how were they expecting her to answer??

  27. Actually, Chicago is ranked 2o in murder, while in 2006, the WaPo Study Claims Iraq’s ‘Excess’ Death Toll Has Reached 655,000.

  28. I believe that was the Lancet Medical Journal/Johns Hopkins study, Lefty. The Wash. Post might have been involved, or their’s is an independently derived number.

  29. I think this is funny.

  31. We have over 2241 Democrats here just in our town voting for McCain Obama will bring gun control by taxing ammo out of reach. He is anti guns and the rednecks will not stand for it! Did you notice thoese Republicans supporting Obama are anti gun and pro abortion

  32. OldLefty –
What does that mean to you?
    - Its gibberish. What is he suggesting we need to guard against? Unwarranted influence over what? Who is the military-industrial complex?

And why would a general, who knew combat issue such a warning?
    - Cause he’s a “left loony commie”? (your words?)

Why don’t you tell me what you think it means and what the fruition of this warning is?

  33. So do you believe that Ike was loony?

I believe that he meant that now,(right after WW11,) that there is an entire industry providing the tools of war, war will be too good for business to pass up.

We must must guard against war for the sake of the war industry.

Most wars since have not been for self defence.

  34. Actually, Chicago is ranked 2o in murder,

20th in the world or in the country.

If in the country, I wonder the ratio of cities under republican rule to cities under democrat rule.

I wonder why people that watch their own families be murdered in the streets keep voting for the same party that isn’t doing anything about it.

  36. OldLefty – No, I don’t think Ike was loony, just copied your words from the earlier post.

So, you are suggesting that Most people believe that all wars, or at least the ones that occurred during Republican administrations, are the result of the war industry’s undue influence over government? This would mean that the war industry holds undue influence over each and every member of Congress who voted in favor of the Iraq war. Strange, I thought most people believed that we started the war because we thought Saddam Hussein was a bad man who was committing unspeakable atrocities against his subjects and was intent on using WMD’s against the free world. Not because the CEO’s of the defense industry asked Bush to start the war.

  37. Karl asks:

What was the purpose of asking about abortion bombers. We all know that they’re evil – how were they expecting her to answer??

I agree – pretty easy question. I would guess the interviewer expected her to say “You betcha! Terrorists with a capital T!”

Instead of her wishy washy refusal to call them domestic terrorists. I think the word terrorist gets overused these days, but sheesh – abortion clinic bombers? Obviously they are terrorists, what is her problem?

  38. So, Liberals kill babies inside the womb.

If that’s not terrorism, I don’t know what is.

The intentional murder of babies because they are inconvienient to the mother.

Repealing Roe v. Wade would be the best thing this country could do.

  39. Wendell is a creep:

So, Liberals kill babies inside the womb.

Though I do highly recommend you not get an abortion, Wendell, if that is the way you feel about it. (pssst. I heard that one or two conservatives have gotten abortions in the history of the world as well, don’t tell anyone though)

  40. FRANK,

    First, I didn’t say MOST.
Next, I didn’t sat only Republicans.

Congress didn’t declare war, even the the Iraq war resolution did not sanction war, only authorised force if needed, after another UN vote, and the inspecters were done…which never happened.

And yes, many in congress have financial interests in the arms industry…Dianne Feinstein for one.

I think that often those with the greatest power are more and more surrounded by fewer and fewer, who engage in a sort of group think.
Like, when your most lucrative product is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Remember the “military analysts” have ties to military contractors vested in the very war policies they are asked to assess on air.

Two of NBC’s most prominent analysts, Barry MCafferty and the late Wayne Downing, were on the advisory board of the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq, an advocacy group created with White House encouragement in 2002 to help make the case for ousting Saddam Hussein. Both men also had their own consulting firms and sat on the boards of major military contractors.

  41. Frank has some funny ideas:

Strange, I thought most people believed that we started the war because we thought Saddam Hussein was a bad man who was committing unspeakable atrocities against his subjects and was intent on using WMD’s against the free world.

You really think those are the reasons we went to war with Saddam? You don’t think it had a teensy bit to do with the oil? You don’t think there are equally bad dudes (or worse) running around in countries that are less strategically significant to the US, about whom we are doing nothing?

Really? You not only think that, but you think most people think that? News flash, Frank – ask 100 people outside of the US why the US went to war, and maybe 1 would give the answer you just gave. Most people do not think that is why we went to war with Iraq.

  42. OldLefty -

Check your earlier post, you said “Most think it IS the fruition of Eisenhower’s warning”. And you only pointed to wars under Repbulican administrations.

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression, I agree that we need to be careful that the leaders of the defense industries should not be given the ability to initiate war. Despite your conspiracy theoris, I disagree that they currently wield this sort of power and that there are sufficient checks and balances in place. In any event, the thing to be worried about would be a candidate who is beholden to special interest groups and denies the “no strings attached” public funding. These defense companies give liberally to everyone, on both sides of the aisle.

Um Cara – I don’t think it had anything to do with oil. Under what theory did the US gain an oil benefit based on the war?

And, I don’t give a hoot as to what people outside the US think, chances are they did not listen to the debates leading up to the war and have only the media spin to base their opinion. I saw a survey a while back that said a majority of people outside the US do not belive Bin Laden was behind the 9/11 attacks. Go back and read the debate on the war and the reasons provided for starting the war.

  43. (pssst. I heard that one or two conservatives have gotten abortions in the history of the world as well, don’t tell anyone though)

    Never happen.

#1 It would dry up the fundraising

#2 Those with money would go anywhere they had to.

Those without money, even the 12 year old raped by her dad or uncle would go to the back alley, and probably die.

That is why several conservative, religious docs I know support Roe v Wade because they saw the young girls die in the wards before.

  45. Those without money, even the 12 year old raped by her dad or uncle would go to the back alley, and probably die.

As opposed to the governments “don’t tell” no parental notification policy so the girl goes right back to the same person that already impregnated her once. Works out great for daddy/uncle, the government pays for the abortion and then sends her back home.

Unless she’s lucky enough to figure it out and get into therapy, she lives a life of shame and is attracted to the same abusive type person (dad/uncle) that raped her as a child. She uses alcohol/drugs to medicate herself from the pain of her childhood. Some then officially end their own lives.

Gotta love those democrat policies of “don’t ask, don’t tell.”

  46. Alan where is the post of Biden warning us that the world is going to test Obama if elected? I looked at Biden as a 30 year washington politician who was part of the problem we wanted fixed. And suddenly he has become truthful. He has told us Obama is not ready to be president and if elected the world would test him and it would not be good. But even Bidens occasional spots of honesty aren’t enough to change me back to Obamas side.

  47. You babykilling pro-aborts are the real terrorists. You murder helpless unborn babies.
You seem to imply there is something wrong if a babykilling abortion mill is burned or bomb. Which do you prefer, a pile of bricks or a pile of dead babies? Innocent unborn babies deserve to be protected just as born children deserve to be protected. You would have no problem protecting born children if they were about to be murdered.
SAY THIS PRAYER: Dear Jesus, I am a sinner and am headed to eternal hell because of my sins. I believe you died on the cross to take away my sins and to take me to heaven. Jesus, I ask you now to come into my heart and take away my sins and give me eternal life.

  48. Rev Spitz…maybe the next time one gets bombed you’ll be walking by!

  49. that is the worst thing that I have heard in this whole filthy election campaign. she is terrifying. how narrow minded is it possible to be? she anyhow redfines the paradigm.

  50. Dear Rev Spitz, I would hope that with your name-calling you are not actually a reverend. If you expect people to believe in your god and your principles, it would behoove you to mind your tongue. It counteracts the very essence of what you preach. I believe a person has a right to their own body, it should be their right to decide what’s best for them. While the abortion issue is of a religious nature and not a political one, not everyone believes the way you do. The issue of when a life is viable can be argued on many levels. What is more relevant is the viable lives of innocent children being killed every day at the hands of the very people who should be protecting them, their parents. In case your not sure of what I’m referring to, I’m talking about the millions of children who are abused and murdered by parents, by foster parents, these children are where you should be focusing your energy on. I don’t hear any outrage about these children who can feel, hope, breathe, laugh, and cry. They are the ones that were not wanted but were born and nobody is advocating for them. These children are just as important, if not more important as they are the viable ones. With the money and energy anti-abortionists spend on the abortion issue, you could be better spending this on counseling for parents, better agencies to provide for foster parents, advocating for better outreach programs and planned parenthood, better education for teenagers ie; sexual education classes, providing information and condoms. Religion perpetuates the need for abortion as some religions don’t believe in contraception, while believing in abstenance, religions need to take their part of responsibility in this situation and need to drastically change their views as they are surely not conducive to the very agenda that you advocate. By the way, just because you advocate for the right to control your own body doesn’t make you anti-life. Nobody advocates more abortions, but the appropriate remedy would be to stop the need before it’s needed.

Anybody who bombs and kills to intimidate and support a certain cause is a terrorist, abortion or supporting abortion is not, in of itself, a terrorist act.

  51. I don’t know what’s going on with this site, but I’m exhausted spending time writing my thoughts only to have them slip out into internetland. Where they go, I don’t know! I am only writing this to see if it will be delivered. Help!

Change is the path that OBAMA will take us on as a nation in the right direction. A black man scoring a td and making a slam dunk is fine but being the prez is crazy in the right wing views. Keeping this country divided with the right wing smear of fear speach is terror. LIBERAL IS A CLEAN WORD AND I LOVE BEING 1!
