The Sarah Palin Fashion Show
In spite of the desire of the McCain campaign not to be talking about this, Sarah Palin goes through her entire wardrobe and brags that she’s wearing her own clothes, and can say so “without the filter of the media.” This, apparently, is after the issue was introduced, before Palin spoke, by Elizabeth Hasselbeck. Palin exclaims, “Those clothes, they are not my property, just like the lighting and the staging and everything else that the RNC purchased. I’m not taking them with me. I’m back to wearing my own clothes from my favorite consignment shop in Anchorage, Alaska.”
Well, if she’s back to wearing her own clothes and accessories on the campaign trail, why did they spend the $150,000 in the first place? And if there’s a “double standard here” as she claims, was that also true when John Edwards was mocked for receiving a $400 haircut, or when Bill Clinton got the same treatment for his $200 Christophe haircut?

Lets talk about the rnc spending $150,000 on clothes.
Then, to be fair and balanced we can talk about the $5million greek stage built for obama.
Well, only if you want to be fair and balanced should we talk about obama and his greek columns.
October 27th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
There’s no double standard.
Like the dems say about sex scandals on the right after preaching about family values, it’s about the hypocrisy.
Rich boy john edwards preaching about 2 americas and then getting $4000 haircuts is the same hypocrisy.

PALIN IN ‘09 (from VP to President!) AND 2012 “legit”
It’s true that Sarah Palin does have the most executive experience
of all the candidates in this election. This experience includes
“spreading the wealth” (see: Alaska’s Windfall Profits Tax),
“abuse of power” (see: Troopergate), “questionable expenditures”
(see: Family travel expenses, hair and wardrobe costs).
But let us not get caught up in the here and now.
Let us journey through the past darkly:
From Lil’ Sarah Palin’s 4th Grade portfolio:
DEMOCRATS = DEMOCRACY
As in “the democratically elected government of…”
REPUBLICANS = REPUBLIC
As in The People’s Republic of China
The People’s Republic of Cuba
I hope to grow up to: Live in a FREE Alaska and marry Joe Vogel,
the leader of the Alaskan Independence Party.
October 27th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
The difference with John Edwards is that he uses his own money. (400 not 4000)
Republicans donors are upset because they didn’t donate for her clothes.
He could have bought a week worth of ads in 6 swing states for that money.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck is a wart on the face of humanity.

I wonder what Obama and Biden spend on their suits and accessories! And lets not forget the cost of Joe’s botox parties!

Remember, any new business ventures in the future associated with energy will likely be driven overseas due to new tax increases. The jobs will not go to American citizens, but they may go to Mexico. When the fed increases taxes on business, they relocate. It’s called outsourcing.
October 27th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Sarah,
Nah, she’s not a wart on the face of humanity. She is the same thing that kept Rush Limbaugh out of Vietnam (look it up).
October 27th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
Republicans LOVE outsourcing.
Kerry called them Benedict Arnold Cos.
In 2004, Bush gave tax cuts for outsourcing:
President Bush signed into law late Friday $136 billion in corporate tax breaks, including a one-year reduction from 35 percent to 5.25 percent on foreign profits for U.S. multinationals. The provision was strongly backed by the technology industry despite criticisms that the break rewards corporations that outsource jobs overseas.
Maybe we could get some real entrepreneurs like Jim Sinegal, the ceo of Costco.
The last I heard, his salary was $350-500,000.
Says he doesn’t need millions.
Maybe it’s time that they go back to competing for our business.

Um Cara,
I occasionally listen to Randi Rhodes.
She had the same thing as Rush.
The airforce took her in spite of it.
October 27th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Listen to SEan Hannity !. He is looking for a tape. And he has done a diservice to the Mccain camp. Now he is looking for more garbage.
October 27th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
“She sees herself as the next leader of the party.”
Give Palin another month and she’ll see herself as the next empress of the world, as apparently her ego knows no bounds.
October 27th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Hey, she grabbed her ‘OWN JACKET’ when she got cold in Florida, how ’bout that?!
Wonder if it was that baby-blue windbreaker she wore in her video congratulations remarks to the Alaskan Independence Party?
October 27th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
Now Sarah,
You have to admit it was cute how proud she was of wearing her very own clothes.
October 27th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
I have a question, by the way.
Does anyone else find it a little discomforting, the amount of time you see Palin’s youngest daughter struggling to hold, carry, and pick up Palin’s baby while both her parents stand around onstage?
It’s making me really, really, really mad, now that I think of it. I’m sure Palin would chalk it all up to, “Well, she’s looking after her baby brother, she wants to do it, she’s learning responsibility, she’s helping with the family,” and other ways to justify giving her youngest daughter all the heavy lifting (literally!) in raising her baby.
The kid deserves to have a childhood and be a kid. Not an indentured nanny. Not a campaign prop. Not sibling-holder. And crap like, “she wants to do it!” just doesn’t fly. No little girl wants to be struggling with a 20-lb. infant on a stage in front of thousands of people.
Todd seems to be a fairly big guy. Perhaps he can provide his daughter some relief.
October 27th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
I love watching these cons flounder…
October 27th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
Okay idiots. Who is making the big deal out of her clothes? Who sent a news crew to Alaska to interview the consignment shop where ~YES ~she does shop?
Duh? The media is enthralled with her and Alan dear is furthering the rapidity by commenting on her clothing. Again. The fetish with how she looks is getting old.
Obama? Where do we even begin?
Greek columns. 2 Billion in campaign funds. Campaigning for 23 months?? What?
Obama gets a Hall Pass. Even when he talks like Elmer Fudd em, er, um , uh.uh.
What?
Get real.
Vote for experience. Vote McCaiin/Palin!
October 27th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
In this case? Her pal Elizabeth Hasselbeck and then Palin herself. She was very proud to have dressed herself today, and I must admit, I too am proud of her.
October 27th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
Gosh Kim, how does Obama get away with it? I know it must be hard to understand that people want someone intelligent, not some old coot that gets flustered and can’t even make a simple choice without screaming at someone…
October 27th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
Republicans donors are upset because they didn’t donate for her clothes.
I don’t think that McCain supporters care about the cost of her clothes. This is just CoDB. Same as telephone lines, jet fuel and fireworks.
He could have bought a week worth of ads in 6 swing states for that money.
No, he could not have.
her ego knows no bounds.
And in that regard, Obama is humble?
The kid deserves to have a childhood and be a kid.
Or you could refer to it as family involvement. Continuation of family values. Not so long ago, helping out around the “home” was part of pitching in.
I love watching these cons flounder…
Yes, the party has lost its way. This horrible horrible result is going to go down as a very high price to pay. Even you Fury, will pay for it.
people want someone intelligent,
I have said it before and will say it again, Obama’s education is, so far, his only identified qualification for President.
her polices are asurbed.
Can you name 5?
It,s time for a change
This is silly for two reasons:
1. However wins will represent change.
2. If you want change, you could vote for Rosanne Barr. You would have change, but that hardly would be good for the country.

7days and a few hour folks. OBAMA AND BIDEN 2008. Most of all, a landslide in in sight. The way the GOP has ran this race has divided this country. The McCain/Palin ticket at their rallies that spread hateard and fear ,has resulted in 2 skinheads wanting to kill OBAMA. The man wants to bring this country togather. He says it in his speeches. I wonder how RUSHLIMP MOUTH AND SEAN THE SMEARMAN INSANITY feel on their talk shows of vile hate and lies that fuel losers like skinheads.
October 27th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Has anybody noticed Palin seems to be moving away from the McCain camp? She’s attempting to put some room between herself and the old dude. Could it be an attempt to position herself for a Rep. presidential run in 2012. Mark my words, it’s coming! Heaven help us!
October 27th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
All of that counts as 1 thing. I have stipulated his college experience.
Illinois Senator 1996-2004
Doesn’t count as Presidential Qualifications.
United States Senator 2004-present
He has been running for President almost all of that time. And even if he hadn’t, a first term Senator is not qualifications either.
Chairman, Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs
Has he even gaveled this open?
The other committee slots again speak to experience as a senator. OF which he is a partial first term one.
Net/net, we have college, college professor and partial term Senator. None of these positions require decisions making, involve staff decisions or a budget.
October 27th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
7days and a few hour folks. OBAMA AND BIDEN 2008.
Sadly, I think that I agree. Sigh. However, upon reflection, I am not sure what is more disheartening; an Obama win or the ignorance that fails to see the damage he is going to do to this country.
Most of all, a landslide in in sight.
And I think that this is possible too.
The McCain/Palin ticket at their rallies that spread hateard and fear ,has resulted in 2 skinheads wanting to kill OBAMA.
Whatever else you say about them, they did not run their campaign filled with hate.
Heaven help us!
Keep prayin hon’ we’re gonna need all of it if the Chosen One wins.
October 27th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Pino,
While I certainly don’t wish to imply that the only part of your response I disagree with is this:
I am curious as to why you would not consider being a State Senator as a reasonable part of overall qualification for President?
October 27th, 2008 at 8:36 pm

That’s what we said about Bush then, and it was even worse than we imagined, and it’s what we say about McCain now.
October 27th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Actually, Obama has the same qualifications as Abraham Lincoln.
October 27th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Pino,
Ha! Yet another thing we disagree on:
I won’t believe it till it happens. Maybe it is the fact that I have never had my candidate win an election (though I have always voted third party and didn’t ever expect a win), but I’m not feeling overly confident. My biggest positive is that Intrade is so overwhelmingly tilted towards Obama, and it has never been wrong: 87.8 to 12.2 currently.
But still, I’ll believe it when I see it.
October 27th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
This whole ‘qualified’ thing is silly anyway. I guess the constitution sets the qualifications, so even I would have to agree Palin is qualified to serve as President, should tragedy strike.
But Obama has a very strong resume, IMO. I just don’t understand your view, Pino.
October 27th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
Everyone knows that red and leather do not mix. Fashion no-no.
October 27th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
reasonable part of overall qualification for President?
I guess I look for Executive experience when it comes to a President. A “do’er” and not a “talker”. Someone who DOES stuff everyday rather than just talk and legislate.
That’s what we said about Bush then, and it was even worse than we imagined, and it’s what we say about McCain now.
I can understand that, however, whatever you feel about his Presidency, I think that history will look back at Bush the Younger more fondly than we see him today. ( NOTE: I find it hard to support much of his work)
However, as much as we hear about McCain = Dub’ya, what we really are going to see is Obama = Carter on steroids.
Can you imagine 70% tax rate? 21% home mortgage? 12% Inflation? 10% or better unemployment? These people are talking about taking over your 401K for gawd’s sake.
But Obama has a very strong resume
He has 1 line of a strong resume. Serious question: Have you ever hired anyone?
October 27th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Oh, almost forgot, Mr Cara. Have you taken notice of Mr Obama’s eloquent dissertation on redistribution of wealth and the failure of our Supreme Court?
Can you say…..

October 27th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Pino,
Yea, I’m a mid level corporate hack (manager), for a huge multinational company. I’ve hired in maybe 20 folks from outside, and quite a few more than that as internal transfers (i.e. hiring people to my teams from within the company).
Anyone can say anything about themselves on the anonymous internet, but honestly I have had a very good record of the folks I have brought in, with quite a few of them moving up pretty quickly and only 1 disaster (early in my career, one of the first four people I hired).
Looking at Obama’s resume, and the job description of the President, and the intangibles, I see great potential for success. I should add I like McCain very much as well, but Palin near nuclear codes just doesn’t cut it for me. (I leaned Obama prior to the Palin pick, but Palin took McCain out of the equation for me)
And you don’t have to preface ‘this is a serious question’ with me (though I understand why you said it since tone is very difficult to read via blog postings), I take you seriously and respect you and your opinions, though I don’t understand some of them.
October 27th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
I take you seriously and respect you and your opinions,
Yes, Mr Cara, this has been a fine conversation we have had over the weeks.
preface ‘this is a serious question’ with me
Thanks for understanding. Often times text conveys different tones than are meant. I didn’t want to come across as flaming.
I’m a mid level corporate hack (manager), for a huge multinational company
I thought you were in Brazil building homes for those without?
DISCLAIMER: I am going to swap the order of comments here on this point.
I have had a very good record of the folks I have brought in, with quite a few of them moving up pretty quickly
And
Looking at Obama’s resume, and the job description of the President, and the intangibles, I see great potential for success.
All due respect, there is no room for “Potential” or to “Move up”. This is it baby, the biggie. He doesn’t have time to learn on the job.
though I don’t understand some of them.
Thats okay, my wife doesn’t understand them either.
October 27th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Not sure if you are joking, but I’m here for adventure and filthy lucre (as I worded it in a post this weekend).
If you seriously had that thought, it might have been because I mentioned in a post a few weeks ago that one of my mentors from college does that on a semi annual basis (the son of Baptist ministries who did their work in Brazil where he grew up, and a devout Baptist himself, and an accomplished scientist). And I think I mentioned I have done work with Habitat for Humanity in the past (though my ex wife should get the credit for that, I probably would have spent the weekend on the couch with good intentions).
But no, I’m here for the adventure, and the cash.
re:
That’s a different use of the word potential. I.e. if you were Bill Ayers looking to blow up the Pentagon, you would want to use explosives with the potential to take down the building. I.e. I think Obama has enough juice to do the job. (had to use that metaphor, since we were talking terrorist in the other thread, forgive my sick sense of humor, please)

Thats the one.
October 27th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Um Cara: “You have to admit it was cute how proud she was of wearing her very own clothes.”
I’m wearing my own clothes, too! And I picked them out myself!
I’m such an elitist, to think I can pay for and choose my own clothing for less than $150K.
