This Is What Desperation Feels Like
When you keep repeating the same attacks that haven’t worked up until now, you’re in big trouble. A PAC called National Republican Trust has a new ad out linking Obama to Reverend Jeremiah Wright, that says:
“For 20 years Barack Obama followed a preacher of hate and said nothing as Wright raged against our country,” the ad says. “He built his power base in Wright’s church. Wright was his mentor, adviser and close friend. For 20 years Obama never complained — until he ran for president. Barack Obama. Too radical. Too risky.”
They’re also attacking Obama because he has a half-aunt who lives in Boston housing project, someone Obama met once and hasn’t seen since his visit to Kenya in 1988. It’s not even clear Obama knows she’s living in the states. And she can’t hate him too much since she donated $260 to his campaign. Unlike, say, Cindy McCain’s half sister, Kathleen Hensley-Portalsky, an Obama supporter, who says Cindy makes her “feel like a non-person” when she describes herself as an only child.
And the latest attempt to paint Obama as a radical has conservatives criticize him because he’s had dinner with Rashid Khalidi, while ignoring that John McCain ran a Republican outfit that give almost half a million dollars to a Khalidi organization.
Calling Obama a socialist isn’t working. Neither are the various attempts to link him with individuals who have, in their view, “radical” points of view. Suggesting he hates America and doesn’t take care of his family isn’t working.
Here’s a unique idea for the McCain campaign: tell people why they should vote for you.
Update: Obama has met his half-aunt more than once, but they were not close and have not been in touch with each other for years. Obama did not know she is living, possibly illegally, in the US.
The campaign said Obama has seen Onyango several times over the years, including during a second trip to Kenya with his wife, Michelle. Onyango previously traveled to Chicago on a tourist visa at the Obamas’ invitation about nine years ago before visiting friends on the East Coast and returning to Kenya, according to the campaign.

When you have the media, hollywood, and europe against you, what else can you do. One good thing is that i get to see what the Carter years were like, and be greatfull when it’s over.

BM,
It isn’t only Europe that isn’t thrilled with the prospect of a McCain victory, pretty much the rest of the world is aligned against him too.
October 30th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
“This Is What Desperation Feels Like”
NO, this is how a McCain regime would address the world’s problems, by adopting a policy and sticking to it NO MATTER WHAT and repeating their actions OVER AND OVER without regard to reality–WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT BUSH HAS DONE OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
Just keep hitting things with that hammer in hopes that something breaks. That’s the strategy.
October 30th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
Desperation is a stinky cologne…
October 30th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
This is entertaining. The cons keep saying that this country is in trouble when the “liberals” get power. Funny. Aren’t they losing because they couldn’t come up with anyone better than McCain? Now the other side knows how we felt in 2004, when the best the Democrats could come up with was John Kerry.
Oh yeah, aren’t we in this mess because of you unfocused, foolish Repubes? Not only are they losing, they will be out for a long time.

why is Sean Hannity still allowed on the network? I truly think he is prejudice. It’s crazy how he has nothing positive to say about Obama and is always looking for someone to agree with him. Guliani is a billionaire and must truly be hard up for friends. He is prejudice as well. Now does he spread his wealth by donating to various charities? Leave money in a will for his children? Give a tip $ when he is out dining?
These and many more are examples of spreading the wealth.
It seems that he is too wealth, selfish and not use to using someone called COMMOM SENSE.

Check out people-press.org to see some real facts on how negative each campaign is. Guess who won the gold medal on negative ads?
I guess after 2 years of slamming Obama the Republicans are just skipping like a needle on a record. OCD politics! “I want to stop, but I can’t!”
October 30th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
Sarah Palin is an excruciating example of a dumb “blonde” if she were actually blonde. I still haven’t been able to pinpoint what it is exactly that infuriates me about her the most. But I’ll start with my short list: Christian? Really? Did they take out of the bible “Thou shalt NOT lie”, “Thou shalt NOT steal”, and “Thou shalt NOT bear false witness.” I listened to an interview that she gave to a radio station in Chicago where she was laughing at becoming President of the United States. She said she’d be president of the PTA (which in my oppinion) she should have stayed as. John McCain talks about Sarah with “Fatherly” love. I don’t think John McCain hadn’t met Sarah before he asked her to become his vice presidential pick on the Republican ticket. I wouldn’t be suprised if Sarah Palin is John McCain’s illegitimate daughter from his philandering days and she was really adopted by the “Heath” family. Or Sarah just epitomizes what a woman can do when she “screws” her way up the food chain….It’s disgusting. This woman is a huge lie and hardly a true representation of “Real American Women!”
October 30th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
But Alan, Calling Osama Obama a socilist is one thing but.. He actually is a socialist, so, anyone calling him one is “CORRECT”.
It is actually reparations to blacks in disguise even though he may have to include a few other races in his grand plan. Many people will either just quit their jobs and get free money form that one or they will ask theor employer to cut their pay so they will fall into a lower income bracket and want be taxed to death.
I’m a Maverick, you’re a Maverick, wouldn’t you like to be a Maverick, too ?

How do we know what his ideas really are. You sound like running for Pres. should be a tea party. Run for president should be rough and tumble, lay it all out and let the people decide. Why does he not say, dig into Ayers all you want and you will see, I told the truth. Dig up that video of Kahlidi, I’m proud of the way I denounced them for their Anti-Isreali diatribe. And I sat in Rev. Wrights church 500 times during his sermons, and never knew he was a racist. Press, please go sit thru several of his sermons and you will see, he does not hate, America

Got it sky, it took me 15 min., but I got it. But why is there such a hue and cry about all the ceo’s that have failed companies, and what they knew. Drag oil co’s ceo’s in front of Congressional hearings about oil prices. Enron exec’s were prosecuted. But O’Bama, we should just believe, based purley on books he wrote himself. come on. Associations with an unrepentant terrorist, maybe nothing to you, but to lots of people, we say hey wait a minute, dig a little deeper please, just to make sure. Not be a bad idea, he will be the president, what does it hurt to make sure.

Or disgust for the Common slick Politician, say something to our face, with a hand open for a pay off from lobbyist behind their back. Don’t you approve of our new face over Bush’s

Sarah you said…Joe’s and Tito’s are the same faces as Bush’s. Full of greed, fear, short-term thinking, tired ideas, warped religiosity, lies and hate. That’s a blatant mischaracterization, why don’t you go line by line and back up your assertions with factual examples. Is it your opinion that anyone who pursues the American dream, (home ownership, entrepreneur, investor etc…. is a greedy, fearful, short term thinking, warped religiosity, lying hater? Really? You’re sounding more than just a little unbalanced
October 30th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Um cara you need to knock that off, I just blew my beverage out my nose! lol
October 30th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
So Obama is now being tied to another “terrorist.” Ronald Reagan actually WAS buddies with a terrorist. Menachem Begin blew-up the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, killing 91 people (including civilians). Was Reagan, therefore, a terrorist, or a terrorist sympathizer?
October 30th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Billy that’s the same moral equivalence argument real terrorists make…….are you a real terrorist? Billy Bones…a name like that makes one wonder…
October 30th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
What is Obama hiding that’s the real question
October 30th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
Trees,
notice the pattern. Take whatever the charge is, and dig dirt until you can make the charge back, no matter how thin. Deluge your opponent with the same things you are saying, while never even trying to defend the actual original charge. And if that still fails, then throw out what a racist you are, and a whack job Christian. Or just moron. Thats the one I like the best
October 30th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Yep, Obama took the Clinton playbook and tweaked it a bit
October 30th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
It would seem Obama has been immunized by the misdeeds of Slick Willy and the rest of the dems, people have become so jaded…

It isn’t only Europe that isn’t thrilled with the prospect of a McCain victory, pretty much the rest of the world is aligned against him too.
Mr Cara, having France cheer for Mr Obama is almost good enough to be the ONLY reason to vote for McCain. Serious.
Just keep hitting things with that hammer in hopes that something breaks. That’s the strategy.
Kinda like Obama’s current strategy. Change. Hope. Economy. 3rd term….
Oh yeah, aren’t we in this mess because of you unfocused, foolish Repubes?

Don’t accuse him of lying or trying to fool anyone. That’s just dirty politics.

we have no reason to suspect barack of hiding anything:

October 30th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
The London Times story of Barack Obama’s Aunt Zeituni – like that of his penniless brother and the Kenyan grade school he promised to help – is interesting not only as a reflection on the candidate’s belief that “spreading the wealth around” is a centralized government mandate to be imposed on Joe the Plumber rather than a personal act by, say, a wealthy memoirist whose books repackage colorful relatives to highly lucrative effect.
But, aside from all that, this detail is lovely:
The Times could not determine their immigration status and an official at Boston City Hall said that Ms Onyango was a resident of Flaherty Way but not registered to vote on the electoral roll. However, that Ms Onyango made a contribution to the Obama campaign would indicate that she is a US citizen.
Of course. By definition, if you donate to Barack the Good, you must be one of his loyal subjects. They should make it a requirement of the citizenship test.
By the way, the argument that giving money to Obama is ipso facto proof of citizenship also clears up any question marks over those donations by “A Hitler” and “S Hussein”. Congratulations!
Oh, and if you want to know why The Boston Globe’s parent company ( The New York Times) has been downgraded by Moody’s to junk status, ask yourself why this story is in a foreign newspaper three thousand miles away rather than the local rag. Congratulations to my old comrade from the Conrad Black trial, James Bone, for doing the job Americans (or at least their media) won’t do.

Senhor Pino,
If it were only France that were concerned about another Republican victory, I could see your point (I’m a good American, the French irritate me as much as any other red-blooded American man).
However, it is not just the French, it is the vast majority of the world. Not that they are anti-McCain, I doubt they know much about him, they just see him as another Bush.
Friends around the world are not something to actively attempt to limit as much as possible (as your response would seem to indicate)
(At any rate, McCain would make a far better statesman than Bush has, and I suspect world opinion will rise eventually, regardless of who wins.)
SHE is a nightmare on ice skates. Probably the best way for you and I to understand each other is she gives me as much of the heeby jeebies as I suspect Obama gives you.

October 31st, 2008 at 11:01 am
Hey Pinno-head:
“Why in THE heellll is that OKAY?
Chirp. Chirp. Cricket. Cricket.
No answer. When presented with a dilemma, there is no answer. How very Obama of you.”
Uh, you posted this last night at 11:58 p.m. If it’s “Obama” to get to bed at a reasonable hour, then my dad out-Obamas everyone. Gets up at 3 a.m., bed by 7 p.m.
Okey-doke. Now Trees:
“Sarah you said…Joe’s and Tito’s are the same faces as Bush’s. Full of greed, fear, short-term thinking, tired ideas, warped religiosity, lies and hate.”
Greed: Corporate America is mostly Republicans, who resoundingly try to defeat pro-labor things and ideas as: overtime pay, unionization, raising minimum wage, daycare, 401K protection, health insurance benefits, education benefits, etc. Notice how a ton of the bailout was going to go to bankers’ bonuses?
Fear: As evidenced currently by the majority of McCain’s commercials (remember Bush 2004, as well), and all the fear-mongering in the Republican party. You might think that fear is legitimate, and I’m not arguing about the legitimacy of any of your fears (although I think many are unfounded and based on lies). Simply said, FEAR is no way of choosing a leader. FEAR is no way to run a country. FEAR is usually the culmination of hate, ignorance (voluntary and involuntary), a lack of creativity and lack of confidence in one’s abilities.
Short-term thinking: Stimulus checks; tax cuts; privatization of Social Security; plunging into war without an objective or an idea of possible consequences; denial about climate change or energy crises; drilling for oil and cheating our future generations of precious natural resources; Katrina; Homeland Security.
Lies and Hate: Hannity, Coulter, Valentine, Palin, etc… Ayers, Whitey, Gay, Muslim, Killing Grandma to shut her up, killing babies, domestic terrorists, room service, Rezko, and too many other distortions, exaggerations and outright LIES to name. As for hate in the Republican Party: non-Christians, anyone who disagrees with them (anti-American! Communist! Socialist! Leave the country!), illegal immigrants, gays, muslims, Jews (yep, just ’cause they like Israel doesn’t mean they like Jews), blacks (affirmative action), and women who get impregnated through rape or incest. There’s the KKK, the NRA, the Christian Coalition (greedy AND hateful), and televangelist haters begotten of Falwell, Robertson, and McCain’s minister, Parsley.
I’m magnifying the darker qualities of the Republican Party, of course. Because right now, they’re magnifying those qualities themselves.
In saner times (and among saner Republicans), they are the backbone of society, along with their Democrat fellow citizens.
Republicans are hardworking, diligent, fiscally conservative (well, they used to be), and interested in getting a return on investment (although lately, they don’t seem to want to invest ANYTHING in their country).
They used to be better educated. They go to church on Sunday (although their religiosity has gotten out of hand). And they used to care about the environment (Teddy Roosevelt) and human issues (Lincoln) and infrastructure (Eisenhower).
Again, Ronnie Reagan wasn’t a horrible disaster, but it was the beginning of an ugly era for the Republican Party. That’s when Falwell really got his meathooks in things.
