How To Lose With Grace

November 5th, 2008, 11:50 AM EST

As I was preparing this post and reading today’s New York Times, I was wondering what some of these e-mailers would say to the veterans of the civil rights movement today.  What would they say, for example to Lucius Holloway, Jr. 76, who once lost his job a a post office custodian for registering voters?

What would they say to 68-year-old Rutha Mae Harris (l) who bellowed out songs of freedom at the Mount Zion Baptist Church in 1961, and who once marched on the Albany, GA, city hall demanding her right to vote?  You can hear audio of Lucius Holloway and Rita Mae Harris here.

With Warm Regards,

  2. Well, four eyes, got your wish

Four eyes? How old are some of the people.

And then the writer follows it up with something so vile and racist, I will not quote it here.

And some people think there is no racism anymore, unbelievable.

  3. Alan,

Congratulations for your outstanding coverage of this historic Presidential Election. Throughout this entire process you remained true to your profession with fair and accurate journalism. Regretfully, I will no longer tune in to Fox News as I am very disappointed in the unprofessional behavior displayed by many of your colleagues. Best wishes and good luck having to continue to work with “That One” whom you share a name on the marquee.

Sir, you are a class act and who knows… maybe one day I’ll see you again on the other popular news channel…the one that employs professionals.

    Sincerely,

    Carl

  4. I wonder if Jerry knows that New Zealand has a Labour government?

  5. Carl, I echo your sentiments to some degree. However, you are missing some comedy gold this week. To watch Fox and Friends this morning and see them smile through gritted teeth was truly a sight to behold. I also look forward to Hannity’s response.

  6. Which is worse?

A graceless loser or a spiteful victor?

    HAHA,, Ahhhh yessss,

let the great unity begin. I can see the healing already.

  7. Hannity’s response will be the same (hate-mongering vermins). He will be the angry man in face of defeat. But he is mainly responsible for the defeat.

  8. And is an a not.

  9. Ok Paul… you’re right! I will watch one last time to see the look of disappointment on Hannity’s face!!!

Alan, you own him right now and please take it to him for all the times he disrespected all of us!!

  10. I’m listening to Rush Limbaugh right now. It only took him 35 minutes to call President-Elect Barack Obama a Chicago thug.

I sometimes wonder what happened in Rush’s life to make him such a bitter, twisted and hateful person.

  11. To add to what Stirling_Bob said:

I wonder if Jerry knows that a majority of New Zealanders were in support of and hoping we would elect Obama! (Uh, have friends who are Kiwis … I get the NZ ‘411′ from them regularly …)

For those of us who supported Obama, let’s show the class that McCain showed in his concession speech last night and NOT toss insults. Let’s instead focus our energy on helping our new President make this a country we are once again proud of! It will take the combined efforts of all to erase the sins of the past 8 years.

  12. I am not a Hateful person, but I just had to respond to thes hateful comments! In fact, the Hateful comments listed are all from a bunch of ignorant people. They shouldn’t even be called people, they are filthy animals that do not deserve to be amongst us! These are the animals that you should be most fearful of! Not our President BARRACK OBAMA or our great nation of Black People. They are probably from some back woods! Stop being so afraid, and identify yourself. Stop hiding behind your fear(s)! COWARDS!!! I just wasted too much time for you racists! Eunice, NY

  13. Alan I commend you on being the only liberal on FoxNews. It has to be tough to sit next to that idiot every night. That being said, for all you bitter Republicans out there, OPEN YOUR EYES. This election of Barack Obama is huge not only to our country, but to the rest of the world. If I may quote the great John Lennon, “Give Peace a Chance”. Obama is not going to give the World peace, but it is a step in the right direction. And to those racists out there that think that this is some sort of Black conspiracy and that African-Americans are going to take over the world, Obama is just as much White as he is Black. I do however fear for President Elect Obama as this epidemic of Racism has not overcome in all parts of the country, and it is sad. I’m not one to make predictions, but four years from now, I believe that this country will be stronger Economically and that this pointless war will be over. That is all. Congratulations President Obama!

  14. They are probably from some back woods

Is there something wrong with not being from a big city? What’s your problem, Eunice?

    Mellow out.

    Woo hoo! Obama won!

  15. Thank you Alan for being so forebearing with the moronic retards, spilling their hate and venom. To all those of you who wish to leave, good riddance, you won’t be missed and to those who gripe but stay, put aside your hatred it is misplaced and inappropriate.

  16. Anyone else notice how pissed Palin looked last night? Her demeanor loudly screamed the following: “I am so pissed. If this campaign had been run the way I wanted it to be, we would’ve won. I can’t believe he’s giving a concession speech. Why is he praising Obama’s efforts in this campaign? I don’t want to be here. You betcha, I am so much better than this.”

  17. Caught the first few minutes of Rusho the Clown:
    - Obama’s speech had no content
    - The crowd wasn’t rapt by his oratory, they were stunned at the content. (but wait, I thought there wasn’t any?)
    - Jesse Jackson was crying because he had to stand “with the mob.”
    - ditto Oprah (funny, I didn’t see her cry)
    - Was hoping McCain would hurry up and concede before the crowd in Chicago “got ugly.”
    - Oh, the election was stolen by fraud.
    - “Conservatives” didn’t lose, Republicans did. (kept stumbling over “Con” vs “Rep” distinction to trying to pass blame)

And Palin is blaming the media again.

  18. UM CARA – In answer to your question – No there is absolutely nothing wrong with not being from a big city. In fact, I’m from a small town in Upstate NY. The back woods comment is meant mainly for that back woods racism that exists (sometimes even hidden – masked by great fear, and unwilling to get to know us as a people). I will though take your advice and mellow out, because you’re right again – OBAMA WON! And I have to remember that those racists are the minority! Thanks for some insight.

  19. Ummm, I’m really not sure whether to laugh or cry at these emails.

    I’m serious.

My body can’t decide on which reaction it wants to go with.

    Both?

  20. It just goes to show that idiots are on both sides.I do NOT think that crime will rise under Obama, but as a soldier who is going to iraq soon,I feel there is a LOT of hatred twoards us and the mission.I do not care, nor have I EVER cared if the country hated the president,or his actions,Nor do I care if you hate the war. However if you voted for Obama on the ” I hate the troops, and want them to lose the war” format,as has been stated by certian people.(Primarilly Democrats)Then you voted for the wrong reason.Your vote will NOT stop me from going!!He will be my CINC,but he better not let me down.My sacrifice is NOT vain or empty.Think about that!!

  30. Some of the name calling is funny at times but stop the hate, I disagree with the democrats and the way the country might be going the next 4 years but they will see the error of their ways and it won’t take the whole term. I will just cling to my Bible and guns as our new president told me to do.

  31. Sgt,
I don’t know of anyone who’s said they hate the troops.

    Hate the war? Yes

Hate the way Cheney/Bush used you for political purposes? Yes

Hate that young American lives are being endangered, shattered and lost in a war that was unnecessary, unjustified and incompetently executed by the administration? Yes, Yes, Yes

Hate that the administration treats our soldiers the same way Wal-mart treats employees, as just another resource to be used up and discarded when no longer serviceable? Hell, yes.

The only frustration I have heard regarding you and your comrades is why you remain willing to follow these people, why sworn duty seems to have no boundary at which soldiers instead follow their consciouses and say “Enough!”

Your sacrifice is not vain or empty, but the intents, purposes and motivations of those who put you in harm’s way are. Your sacrifice is valiant and unimpeachable, and I haven’t heard anyone suggest otherwise.

No one wants you to lose the war, they want the war ENDED. If Iraq cannot hold as a nation, and democracy does not grow in that nation or region, it is not because of the actions of you and your comrades, it is DESPITE those actions. You won the war, Cheney/Bush and the rest of the chicken-hawks lost the occupation and aftermath.

Godspeed, be safe, and I sincerely hope that by the mid-term elections, you and all your comrades will be railing against those “damn liberals” in Washington from the safety of your living rooms.

    Peace.

Not really. If you disagree with Obama, think he is too liberal, too soft on the war, etc etc, without using any racist slurs, I don’t see how anyone could accuse you of being a racist.

The people that are being accused of racism are the ones making these comments.

“I have been watching TV and Blacks are in the streets yelling “Black Power”. May GOD have mercy on us now!!!!!”

“The blacks will now own America. The robbing, murdering, raping and pilaging will be on the rise.”

“Guess they’ll have to fumigate it when he leaves to get rid of the afro smell. ”

  33. I don’t understand all the hate going on in this website. On both sides! I mean, we got republicans accusing Obama of being a terrorist, and democrats calling anybody who doesn’t agree with them racist or stupid. Seriously, lets grow up! I am a conservative and have accepted the fact that Barack is going to be our new president. Am i happy about it? no, not at all. But if we are going to actually bring “change”, it has to come from both sides. We cant figure things out if we just turn our backs on each other. So lets stop the senseless name calling and grow up. And Alan, if you actually read these posts, I love Hannity and Colmes. Even though i agree with Hannity, you make the show much more interesting. Your probably my favorite liberal. Take care.

  34. Sgt. Sturms, please don’t take most of America’s distaste for the war as a distaste for our troops. I’m sure there are a few who are like that but most of us are not.

I’ve already lost 2 friends over there, and I couldn’t love them or their sacrifice more. I just want you guys home, protecting us instead of being used as political pawns.

Please understand the difference. I am proud of you and all our fighting men and women. I just don’t think we need to lose any more brave souls fighting in a country to spread democracy to people that don’t seem to want it.

  35. I don’t understand the racial nature of a lot of those e-mails. THAT part is sad. I don’t give a flip what race my president is and I am very happy for black people that we have our first black president. It is truly historic despite your political affiliation.

Much like slavery was the transcendent moral issue of the time, abortion is a transcendent moral issue of OUR time. I have a hard time completely getting behind a president or a party who believes that late-term abortion (or partial-birth abortion) is a “choice” to be protected. It is morally bankrupt at the very least.

Even with that said, I wish President-elect Obama the very best, he will be my president, it is truly a historic time in our country, and congratulations to all his supporters.

  36. For the last two years the problems caused by the democrats, barney frank and cris dodds destroying the mortgage industry, nancy pelosi and harry reed stagnating the house and senate, can no longer be blamed on President Bush and the Republicans. The bias, liberal press will try to spin it, but anyone with a brain should be able to see through this farce. I only hope clear thinkers will bring us, the unhyphenated , true, proud to be Americans through the next two years.

  37. You stood out as the best among the reporters at Foxnews. You showed journalism that was fair and impartial and history will remember you for standing out in moments of honesty during the recent concluded American election. The world watched it and I personally adore your support and standing up in defence of Obama from a campaign of character assasination as seen from your other colleague, Hannity

    Obioma,
    London

  38. It’s good to hear the true feelings from individuals who don’t have to stay in the closet with their comments. However, it’s sad to hear that they would rather cast gloom on the country because someone in the oval office that doesn’t look like them. Hmmm.. sounds familiar. Let’s work together and see if we ALL can brighten this picture.

  39. Alan, your patience and ability to withstand the attacks from the right is most courageous. I hope Mr. Hannity has the ability to be as gracious and understanding as you. I’m aware it’s more complicated than that, and the reaction from some on the right will always be FEAR. However, they need our compassion and not our antipathy, even if their motivation is less than laudable. Keep up the great work.

  40. Jerry, You don’t have to leave to New Zealand and those conservatives complaining about an Obama administration don’t have to worry. Bush has showed us, the worst we can get from a modern day president.

    The last 8 years.

    1. $0.5 Trillion Deficit
    2. $1.0 Trillion Cost of War.
    3. We lost 5M jobs with the so-called tax cuts.
    4. We had civil liberties eroded. NSA had warrantless wiretapping and were listening to private conversations between husbands and wives comforting and pleasuring eachother.
    5. We had Mismanagement of FEMA and KATRINA.
    6. We had deregulation of the financial market that almost destroyed our financial markets. The bums created $50T worth of Credit Default Swaps.
    7. We had TORTURE.
    8. We had prisoners locked without facing any form of court or military tribunal.
    9. We have tax breaks for the rich in time of WAR.
    10. We were lied to about WMD.
    11. We were lied to that we would be greeted as liberators.
    12. $10 Trillion Nation Debt.

When you see despair, I see opportunity for investments.

Warren Buffet has made some moves and as a close adviser to Obama, I expect him to push the alternative energy agenda. He bought GE and Goldman Sac and the another troubled energy company. That his a sign of the direction the country is going to take. Clean Coal and Natural Gas will take center stage.

Don’t worry about Obama, he cannot destroy capitalism. The stock market and the world economy is bigger than any President.

Find a way to invest in the next trend and you will be golden. Big Oil and oil speculators have done great in the last 8 years. Now its the turn of alternative energy and farmers or industrial producers to make some money.

Solar, Biofuels and wind will do great and if Detroit gets serious maybe the can start production of the VOLT and other fuel efficient cars.

SEIZE the opportunity and not the SLEAZE.

    God Bless America

  41. Charles M.
The mortgage problems started long before the Dems took over. Rampant deregulation-at-all-costs started with Reagan. The real estate bubble burst before the 2006 elections (I know, I sold a home in early 06 just as the market turned seriously south).
The log-jam in congress the last two years can be laid squarely at the feet of Senate Republicans, who declared after the 06 elections that their new task was to make sure nothing got done so they could run against those do-nothing Dems. And it was Bush who, for a long time, vetoed or threatened to veto any legislation that didn’t have everything he wanted and nothing he didn’t. His brand of “bipartisanship” consisted wholly of expecting Dems to give him exactly what he wanted. Fortunately, the majority of the electorate seems to have seen through that.

  42. You would know all the racists and bigots feel free to show their true colors on a Fox forum.

For those of you who say you’re leaving, GOOD! You’re the types who have brought this country to where it is now, on the brink of disaster. So please, DO LEAVE.

  43. Becky,

I think it is very impolite to tell someone to just leave! Wish them GOOD LUCK prior to dropping them off at the borders/shores of this great nation! LOL

  44. Sean Hannity says he will be the loud voice of conservatism in exile. But the Mccain ’s defeat is Sean own doing.

  45. “Hitler was a socialist” – how ignorant can you get? You conservatives don’t have any idea what a socialist it – Hitler was EXTREMELY ANTI-SOCIALIST.

This country is still a capitalist society and it will remain one. You people screaming “Socialist!” don’t even know what it means. Try read some history iso listening to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

  46. Carl –

You’re right. I apologize. Good luck everyone leaving the US! Don’t let the door slam on your ass as you leave!

What’s really hilarious is all these people who say they’re going to Canada, which is very liberal.

  47. Here we are grasped in the clutches of hatred. What do we do? Return the favor? Ignore the voice? Seek to understand the persons? I would hope that we could, for one day, join in the affirmation that we all are created equal and Pres.-elect Obama was judged by his merits and his character. These e-mails are a reflection of fear, lack of understanding of their fellow Americans and inability to take command of their emotions.

I would love to say to Lucious Holloway, Rutha Mae Harris and every other civil rights advocate, CONGRATULATIONS, this is testimony to all the hard work, the enduring pain and the steadfastness of your character. I would like to think I would have stood next to any of you and fought for what was right. And as I stand here today and see evidence in the election of Barack Obama, I am elated and hopeful we have moved on and will continue to move in the direction of what is fair and what is just for all mankind and live and respect one another no matter what the color of your skin.

  48. Becky,

I don’t know how they can afford to relocate with the current state of the economy.

  49. Man, you guys are relentless with the little jabs!

  51. Sean Hannity says again: “I don’t know the real Obama and he embodies radical views.” Well Sean is still digging for dirts. He has become a soar looser.

  52. Hey! Sean journalism is not dead; only the narrow conservatism is dead.

  53. I like the “NY Obama time” and i dislike the Foxy news network.

  54. Sean Hannity is the most obnoxious, self-centered individual in the media! I would imagine Fox is paying Mr. Colmes a generous salary just to put up with this guy.

  55. Becky,

So sorry to have offended you so greatly. A little suggestion though, make sure you are right about your facts before you tell somebody else they need to read history. I would suggest for your quick edification, try googling Hitler& Socialism. I’m sure you will find all the info you need to learn what socialism is, and facism.

    Have a good day

  56. A little thought here

    1. Fox news has 40% +/-(approx) Liberal viewers. A pretty large number to be dissing, don’t you think? When they are part of the capitalism that makes money for fox.
    2. Sean Hannity is a political commentator not a journalist. Same as Allen Colmes. Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck et.al.
    3. Why is somebody a hater, just for watching a tv channel that is not the one you like?

  57. The hate filled posts are just more of the status quo for the paranoid delusional conservative right. They are consumed with fear and the boogeyman. If it’s not Muslims it’s gays, if it’s not gays it’s the left liberal media, socialism, on and on and on! Go dig a hole and hide in it.

won.I will get behind our new President and support him.I would want others to do the same if my guy won.
I am surprised,I am not even sad,After watching the reaction to him being elected I feel hopeful for the first time in ages.

  60. It looks like you get a lot of mail from rural Pennsylvania.

  61. I am so amazed that the right seem to think that their values are so much higher than everyone else, but when you read the comments that make are so vicious and vile.
It is just a barrage of nastiness that is unlike any other. I know that this will make them proud but if they had half a brain they would hang their heads in shame.

  62. Pathetic, sad little cons…

  63. I can’t believe the rampant racism and stupidity that so called Americans are still spewing. “Now the blacks are in charge?” I’m sure “the blacks” have been feeling that way about “the whites” for quite some time. As proud as I am to have been a part of history, I’m still, at times, ashamed of my fellow Americans.

  64. To all those right wingers that are leaving the USA I want to wish you a bon voyage and hope you will find wealth and happiness in your new nation so you will never have to return to the USA. “You betcha!” BYE!BYE!

  65. Hey BLUEYE$51, look at Dick Morris’ post. Talk about a barrage of nastiness!!

  66. Rebecca, Delso, & Carmie, please get your passports and get the hell out of dodge!!!! I find your comments offensive and racist. You don’t have to like Obama, but to assume he will disregard the laws of the constitution, and just make a mockery of the highest office in the land, that’s ignorant. Need I remind all of you he has a law degree. What degree do you have? In the hood, we would call it a “PHD” (playa-hating-degree). Just thought I’d put you up on some slang since you guys know so much about our community. Rebecca, since there is so much robbery, rape, and murder in your neighborhood, girl you need to find a new zip code. I live in Texas and I hope we get to keep our guns. That is all that will keep us safe from the thugs who manage to creep into our neighborhoods. Write BO and tell him hands off our weapons!

  68. One more thing for Latasha,
Why are BOs lips purple. Is this a race thing or a drug thing?

  69. Now i am a republican who voted for mccain, and hoped obama would not see the white house, but now that he has i have to put my reservations about him aside and take pride in my country. I regret to see much of the racist and hateful comments about our next president by many from my own party. I understand their anger, because honestly i dont believe obama is neither qualified nor honest enough to lead our nation, but now that our country has exercised their democratic right, i will support mr obama, black or white i will support the president of this great nation. Despite the vast difference of opinions i own with obama, i will pray for his future health, wisdom, and integrity for these here united states.
    and P.S
alan is far from “fair and balanced”…and so is sean

  70. Nice Jamal, real nice. You seem to be rather obsessed with the Muslim religion and Black men ~ you could always move to Sudan and live out your fantasies!

  71. “You can’t always get what you want” by the Rolling Stones, is the song I’ll be singing around my republican friends. That’ll play nicely and “gracefully” along with their glumness. =)

But Obama is proving that he is about bringing a sense of unity to this country and he has already begun to prove this by turning four republican states into the color Blue. Now that is truly a major head start among us as fellow Americans.

  72. I agree Luke.

I’ll give props to Obama for keeping a steady and balanced head throughout his campaigning. He’s actually rubbing off on me and I found myself saying this morning, “yes we can”.
-well, it was only because I went to sleep late last night and I guess I was telling my body we could make that effort to get out of bed early, but still, I found myself saying that and I blame it on Mr. Obama.

  73. You see, that “yes we can” motivational slogan is already paying off as well. Obama will be the greatest and best influences on everybody of color, age, and culture.

—Yes We Can—-(until the very end!)

  74. FOX news is full of bitter ass jackasses.
Have you seen the BS they’ve been running all day? Obviously they have no idea what a historical moment is and what the emotional level is on the people of this great nation. We’ve come full circle and FOX news is only taking us back and being pointlessly negative.

  75. Dear Alan,
I was lucky enough to get through to your radio show tonight but I waited about 30 minutes, unfortunately I had to hang. As I listened to your show this evening, I was feeling myself getting so angry at some of the completely “stupid” things that were being said, i.e. Obama would take away everyone’s gun (I always want to reply, “yep, Feb 1 bring all them there guns in because Barack really needs your guns.”), Obama is a socialist, a Muslim, black power, doesn’t believe in God, etc. I want to remind these people that our country was founded on freedom of religion! So what if he doesn’t believe as you, especially the ones who call themselves born-again Christians. They are so judgmental, it is scary.
I wasn’t quite sure why Sarah Palin pushed such anger within me. The news from Newsweek concerning Ms Palin makes want to laugh, what did these people think she was like. She was running for the 2nd highest position in our country and she winks at us???? I am so insulted! She wasn’t allow to take questions from reporters in a country that says we have freedom of speech. I realize the republican were afraid of her answers – Sarah’s thought process probably go something like this: “Let me think (an oxymoron to begin with)- Obama has a different color of skin than my kids. He must be Muslim, or something scary. What? He’s from the country of Africa.” How can people support this?? It’s nuts!
While listening to some of the strange calls you received, which you are very patient with, it all came to me. We have been living in such free from Bush and Chaney for 8 years that everyone needs to be paranoid to exist. They seriously need to go to jail! All this BS about Obama and these people trust the republicans??? Amazing! i guess that is how Hilter came to power – fear, fear, fear.
I am so full of joy that Senator Barack Obama will be our next president. Hopefully I can enjoy it fully, not looking over my shoulder wondering what the republicans have up their sleeve to change the outcome of the vote.
Please people pick up a newspaper and READ it! Where did Jesus always go when he went to a new town, to the poor, the sick, the whores, the neglected ones. Do you really think he would approve of your bias and lies? READ, READ, READ – something besides the mass email you are sent and the guns magazines.
Thank you for being there, Alan!

  76. Carol, I was also insulted by this woman who called herself a feminist and then wasn’t sure about it a couple of interviews later. Palin is only a professional in winking and in pageant waving. She probably still thinks all this is a pageant contest!
Anyway, she did lose with grace and with new eyeglasses that probably added another $1000 to the McCain campaign…..tsk, tsk.

I hope she doesn’t run in ‘12. Or I will be running from this country and moving to Canada!

  77. Barack Obama should be very proud that not all of his constituents are just “black” lazy liberals. I’m white and I am so proud of him and our countries “historic” achievement. And I’m sorry for people who feel like the only achievements received in the United States is only “white.” It’s not and I resent the implication that anyone would espouse the idea that only “some people” actually count, and the “rest” is just the “rest.” This whole ideology is disillusional and false. I agree with Stevie Wonder who said, ” Haters have no place in our society and are not conducive” to the real United States of America ideology!

  78. wow so much anger. thank you for the close minded christian insult, very open minded of you. yes palin made her mistakes, i can admit that, but its not like biden was the prototypical vp either. good for obama, i understand the historical context of his achievement, but i just hope we can get to a day when there is no need for this great upheaval of “white” authority. black, white, red, and yellow we are all AMERICANS!!! not african, not mexican, not european, or asian, americans! obama has his strengths, but i can argue he also has his weaknesses. now we finally have the chance to find out.

  79. Uneducated, small-minded, prejudice people…I sure hope you’re not God’s children…you should be ashamed.

  80. ashamed of what my friend? no i am not ashamed of my faith or the morals by which i live. just because i have morals and are vocal about them doesnt make me a small-minded, bigot. and uneducated really? i guess 4.0’s, high school diploma’s, and top SAT score’s aren’t what they used to be anymore. danks 4 tha updait

and we are all God’s children, just depends on if you choose to receive His salvation

  81. you americans love to be disliked….why ?

  82. Unbelievable
It freaks me out that I share such a small planet with these people.

If they move to another country that would have them, they’ll be too close.

  83. Why would someone want to move to New Zealand? It’s very left-leaning.

  84. Ugh, keep the religion out of government please.

    KTHXBAI.

you americans love to be disliked….why ?

Loaded question. It’s not that we love to be disliked, it’s that we believe we live in the best country in the world and even with it’s flaws it’s better than everywhere else. The arrogance that this breeds pisses off many other people around the world, but it’s not malicious arrogance (at least on my part) it’s just incidental.

  86. Dear Jerry

As a Kiwi who likes to read the US blogs (mostly for a good laugh)I thought I would let you know what you are in for. We have in the past 6 years given Gay people the right to marry, legalized prostitution, banned parents smacking and put in place many socialist policies regarding workers rights and to top it all of in our current election debate the 2 main party leaders declared themselves atheists! Please reconsider your move.

  87. Nice try Sam, he’s your problem now.

  88. Now,we all need a complete PALIN-ESTHESIA.

  89. A PALIN-DROMIA is to be prevented by all available medicines. So is Hannityzation.

  90. Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!

    “The Blacks are in charge.”

    It’s Obama-time now!

    Get Whitey!
    Get Whitey!
    Get Whitey!

    Oh, wait… I AM Whitey.

    D’OH!!

  91. I want to thank many times over the people whose backs we literally broke to enjoy “White” privelege at “Black” American expense. I cannot believe the amount of animosity and hatred that I am hearing and seeing in print. I don’t think anyone’s children should be excluded to pursue their version of the American dream. You’d think, that the only races that are in the United States were just “Black and White.” It’s not. There is so much more to American History, culture, and society that has contributed to a rainbow like tapestry that helped to create the United States and our history. We are intricately interwoven no matter what. If I lived during the times of the Civil rights movement or sooner, I would like to think that I would have said “sorry” sooner. I personally did not contribute to racial disharmony and neither did any member of my family contribute to slavery or to my knowledged ever receive financial benefit from the people whose collective backs “We” and I mean in the most broadest sense broke to receive the honor of privilege. My son is of mixed race and my husband is from Africa. I can’t get away from the history of it all without acknowledging the greatest “human rights” violations in American History. African American ancestors largely did not ask the United States to bring them here. They did not ask to die on Foreign soil, They did not ask to have their children excluded or humiliated for not being “white” enough. I have tears in my eyes thinking about the blanket humiliation that some African Americans have gone through and have yet to receive so much as a “Thank you” for their role in American history or our society. Many of us talk a good game, but rarely actually live by what we say. It’s tragic. We can all say how slavery was abolished, it doesn’t exist anymore, etc. As many of you can see, it does exist and it’s on both sides of the race spectrum. We have gone into many people’s countries to becry “human rights” issues and have yet to fully apologize for our own issues and history. I would call that, hypocritical. Extremely hypocritical. I know racism exist in the way some people treat my son. The way my husband and I are looked at. The way I get treated even by some in the black community. The division that it has caused in my immediate family, for loving someone who is not of my same race, country, or culture. If a soldier wanted to know what his sacrifice means, I offer my sincere gratitude for daring to love “outside” of other people’s idea of the norm. I will never change my decision, nor do I have any regrets regarding my personal deeply profound choice to live and believe that God created all creatures great and small. I live as I speak. I would challenge some Americans to try and do the same. Live as you speak. Show you really mean the things that you tell your friends, family, or associates, without feeling that you have secretly deluded yourself into believing that somehow you are living the real “American” ideal. Don’t be hypocritical. We are all currently sharing the woes our country is now facing. We are in two wars. We have enemies that hate us in South America. They are “really” close to us. We are in the worst financial crisis of our history. Many Americans are now homeless, and have no real idea when they will be able to feed or support their families without the help from friends, the government, other citizen contributions, or even their extended families. I do not want anyones child to die in war, to be humiliated, to be saddled with a debt or lifestyle they did not contribute to. I don’t want my mother to have to work longer than necessary. Right now, she relies on disability. If I don’t have a job, I cannot help myself, my son, my husband, or have any hope to help my mother if her disability was ever cut. I hope that someday we can remove ourselves from the pettiness of such lame arguments such as “race” because that really detracts from the real issues at hand that are affecting everyone and everyone’s children in some form or another. We needed a government that knows that the positions they carry is reserved for the best and brightest, and paid for by the American people. We need to watch them deligently to make sure from here on out that they are doing their job. I want them to try and make sure that the United States and its citizens can sleep soundly and with peace knowing that we have the best and brightest in our highest offices to watch over us. This idea trascends race, or political affiliation.
I want to be able to move on and move forward and challenge everyone to do the same. Our very lives depend on it…..Thanks.

  92. I will pray that those who were filled with fear find faith in the nature of America. I will pray that we marginalize the unfortunate hate mongers of the talk radio ilk by reducing the access to any real information about the administration. My thought is to starve them to death with a lack of red meat….well, it’s worth a try…sure, they will grow their own lies, but we don’t have to listen. Perhaps, the administration will do better than Bush in communicating and working with the entire country rather than just the base….did I really say “Perhaps”???? How could they ever do worse?
Sean, Rush, Ann,Laura, Michele, and the rest of you poor hate-filled liars…..get it together…I doubt if you will get the type of access to information you are used to…you will still get talking points, but they will come from a corner bar where the local political boss is drumming up his/her own political agenda…to “take over the world”….you might also consider moving to Alaska….I’ve heard someone up there will be looking for allies in a continuation of misinformation to the masses…..good luck and don’t forget your rubbers.

  93. This evening (11/6/08) I was listening to your radio show. Your rude behavior toward your callers reminded me of Rush. I would have appreciated you letting your callers complete a thought/comment. It may be an outdated thought, but I think more civil behavior toward others is appropriate.

  94. “2nd highest position in our country and she winks at us????”– posted by Carol.

I saw Obama on television today where he winked his eye at the camera. (No joke) I found that very insulting and condescending.

When will the American people stop letting the games of politics divide us?
