Joe Lieberman Once Vowed To Help Elect A Democratic President In 2008
Joe Lieberman met with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to discuss whether he will continue to caucus with Democrats. They say nothing was decided, and there will be more discussions. Let’s not forget that when Lieberman was in a tough primary battle with Ned Lamont to win the Democratic nomination for Senate and retain his seat, he said:
“I want Democrats to back in the majority in Washington and elect a Democratic president in 2008. This man [Ned Lamont] and his supporters will frustrate and defeat our hopes of doing this.”

In a way, he did. Anyone in, associated, or a fan of the electronic entertainment industry (meaning videogames, movies, music, etc) will vote the opposite way when they see Lieberman on board.

Democrats should properly punish Lieberfraud, he would. Strip him of his committees.
Not only did Obama campaign for Liberfraud, he didn’t help his opponent which has earned Obama a lot of STILL suspicion from Netroots.
Truly a disgraceful performance by Lieberman.
November 6th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
The Democratic Party abandoned him and the Republican Party handed him up a long time colleague he was able to endorse on a silver platter. What did you expect?
If you’re implying that he’s a liar, let me fill you in – he’s a lawyer and a politician. The way you can tell either of those groups is lying is if their lips are moving.
November 6th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
“The Democratic Party abandoned him”
………………
He LOST the election in the primary.
Isn’t that just democracy?
The Republicans ran Pat Toomey against Arlen Specter in 2004, so what?
November 6th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Lieberman is out, John McCain is going to be a liaison between the dems. and repubs. !?
NO WONDER HE LOST ! LOL !
November 6th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
Lieberman is a moron. That’s a no brainer.
However, Reid has an opportunity to set the ground rules for “change” in the senate and support the president elect’s mantra.
Leaving ole Joe in his position can be publicized as a “change” away from old politics and at the very same token, purchase Joe’s devotion and loyalty for many years to come. Of course, the whole loyalty part isn’t what you promote. You promote that “change” has already started in the Senate.
Punishing ole Joe for his profoundly stupid decision is not the role of the Senate. It is the role of the voters. The will decide if Joe needs punishment.
In the mean time, the Dems have an opportunity to sieze “change” for positive public perception.
not rocket science folks. It’s a business decision that Reid will show he is either smart enought to accept or stupid enough to slip away from him.
November 6th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
I am not one for “loyalty oaths”, or anything closely resembling them. I do believe that one has choice as to party affiliation. I do believe that if a party is in a position to make appointments to charimenships, that it is proper for them to use that authority. In this customary for a party to have chairpeople for committees from their won party. I would suggest that Joe be offered an opportunity to rejoin the Democratic Party and retain his chairmanship. If he chooses to be an Independent, he should be ready to be prepared to be treated as one….repspected, offered an opportunity to caucous with the party of his choice, but chair of any committee that Independents rightfully authorized to chair.
November 6th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
“If you’re implying that he’s a liar….” Heaven forbid! We are not implying anything – we are PROVING with DOCUMENTED RECORDED EVIDENCE that Joe Lieberman is a lying piece of filth – he is the worst type of turncoat traitor and his name will be interchangeable with Quisling for the rest of his miserable life.
November 6th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Jake, don’t hold back….let ‘er rip, kid….go ahead.
To consider Joe a bit of a hypocrite is an understatement worthy of Bill Maher.
I suggest, merely, that we apply to him the opportunity to either be the prodigal son, or go his own way…in the spirit of the new president elect of our country.
November 6th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
Joe is dead meat in the Senate. Let him go suck up to the Republicans. He was pathetic during this campaign, following McCain around like a puppy dog, like his second head, always standing behind him on the right, next to Cindy. He has one agenda and one only, Israel and he supported McBush only because of his jingoist tendencies. Lieberman wants us to attack Iran, Period. Is allegiance is to Israel. Its time to talk to Iran and stop this Bush/Cheney/McBush sabre rattling BS like Obama promised.

A little “Feedback” for Joe after watching him stand BEHIND John McCain.
November 6th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
Just read that he will remain in chairperson slot…”for now”. I think the days of openly trusting the wayward Joe are over. His independence is to be respected, but not without consequence for him. Something about responsibility for decisions we make …. seems appropriate right about now.

LOL – Instead of supporting the Guys Personal Right to Choose, lets lynch him. God you all sound like a bunch of prissy conservatives.
November 6th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Seems a “Guys Personal Right to Choose” has no place in the New Party of Change.I really thought it would be different with Obama–he said it would—I was hoping it would anyway.Trying to push a registered Independent Senator out for not supporting a Democrat.
What will happen now to any other Senator or Congressman who doesn’t side with the Democrats on a vote or bill. This seems to be a very dangerous place for our government to be going with this one.
November 6th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
What is the deal with your buddy Hanity. He is such a Rush Limbaugh wanabe, it’s sickening. He couldn’t begin to walk an inch in Limbaugh’s stinking shoes. OBAMA THE SENATOR HAS BEEN ELECTED PRESIDENT! Tell Hanity to GET OVER IT! And Yes, I am black. I voted for Obama BECAUSE he is black. I think any respected person in this country who denies their inherited right to choose their leader BECAUSE of his race is not a true American. The media asks that question like it’s some kind of a “gotcha” moment of reverse racism. But seriously, put a muzzle on Hanity. It’s a shameful for a man to publically display his inherited ignorance on such a national stage.
November 6th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Typical liberal-throwing out the now no longer useful to the Annoited ones campaign.
If I we’re Joe, I would tell you all to go to hades

Ty you in the Klan?

Lieberman is a scumbag!
November 6th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
joe loserman would never be welcome back into the democratic party. he’s an independent now and will likely stay that way. the republicans dont want him he couldn’t sway democrats over, so no use of him there. democrats dont want him they view him as a traitor.
November 6th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
TY- sean hannity is a right-wing radical conservative idiot! he’s dumb as hell not well educated. a closet racist i dont care what he says. barack is what he will never be-PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!
November 6th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Lieberman is an American hero. At least he had the *GUTS* to speak his mind. He knew what it would cost him.
Just like Geraldine Ferraro did. The Democrats could not wait to kick her to the curb, for speaking the truth about Obama.
The Republicans would be *fools* not to accept him. There is always a place for a decent honorable man. And yeah, I don’t doubt he is imperfect. But more perfect than many of you LOSERS!
November 6th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
I have been listening to Alan since 1992 and I am so glad that I can still hear a person who tells you how he feels and does not back down from his core values. (by the way I was only 12 years old in 1992)
November 6th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
I am a republican who voted for Obama. I am elated that the people of this country decided to bring us back to what the republicans stood for in the first place
November 6th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
I expect Lieberman will have to give the Republicans back their thirteen pieces of silver if he wants to stay in the caucus.
November 7th, 2008 at 12:04 am
Liberman is an American Hero?
Sorry, my heroes stand for freedom of expression and personal rights and family rights. Lieberman believes none of these things.
He has crusaded against music, movies, videogames, and crusaded FOR stricter government involvement in families. He is just a power hungry politician, like 99.9% of them are. And I’ll include Obama in that blanket statement I just made.
November 7th, 2008 at 1:22 am
A turncoat and a weasel. What more can you say.
November 7th, 2008 at 1:40 am
Hey Jersey Jim, Sen. Lieberman IS an honest and honorable man. I don’t agree with Lieberman’s votes in the Senate about 90 percent of the time, but I do believe he is an honest man who does believe in freedom of expression and personal rights and family values.
The music, movies, and video games he has “crusaded” against are not suitable for human consumption. You need to check your facts. I am sure he will send you a list of the above that he has “crusaded” against if you write him and request them.
If your heros stand for freedom of expression then you must respect Sen. Lieberman for his expression of support for the candidate he felt was a better choice for the presidency of the United States. Where is it written that if you belong to a certain political party that you MUST support every candidate in that party that runs for public office?
America, Land of the Free. The right to support any candidate you choose.
November 7th, 2008 at 8:46 am
Hey! TY, agree we should put a muzle on Sean Hannity big mouth; but for only a short until he apologizes for calling Obama’s mother a “WHITE TRASH”.He will deny that because he pretented to defend Obama on that issue. But his purpose was to put the idea out there, just like all the other infamous smears.Remeber! he had rev. Manning on his radio show and on the same night he put him on his tv show just to repeat the same trash. Then he defended Obama! So Hannity just put it out there just like when he said” what if we talk about Obama’s cocaine use”.
November 7th, 2008 at 9:57 am
Bah. In that respect he’s no better than Tipper Gore and her battle against ‘porn rock’ in the ’80s.
November 7th, 2008 at 10:00 am
Willy, you are not going to get into a debate with me about Lieberman and win, I’ll warn you now to save yourself any embarrassment.
Look up Prop 209 (Calif. ‘96) for one of his better publicised examples of flip-flopping for Affirmative Action, which he did under Bush as well.
He criticises videogames (which are protected media under legal precedent and apply under the First Amendment as expressive speech and/or art) and in 1993 led a campaign to demonize the games, eventually working out a deal with Howard Phillips in exchange for exempting Nintendo from the lawsuit – demonizing Sega of America under false pretenses for the game Night Trap, where Lieberman claimed the goal was to kill teenage girls (In reality, you play as a SWAT team member whose mission is to save the girls – he also claimed there was sex in the game, and there isn’t so much as a panty shot) and for not providing parents with notice to game content (Sega actually had the FIRST game rating system, publicised it and encouraged parents to use it, Nintendo did not) and attacked SoA simply to kick-start his career with the help of a shady deal. He did it to gain public attention in a bid for reelection. He did it again recently, claiming Grand Theft Auto showed graphic sex and rewarded you for killing prostitutes. (The game actually punishes you quite harshly usually and shows at the most the motions of sex, while the protagonists are covered by the same amount of clothing you would see on a family at the beach) even hiring recently disbarred lawyer Jack Thompson to assist him in the demonization.
Check some sources: Steven Kent Ultimate History of Video Games; Leonard Herman, Phoenix, 1993 Congressional Hearings, etc.
Get the facts yourself Willy. Google Sam Fox and his donations for support. His changing from Democrat to Independent simply to retain his power.
Also, certain games, music or movies may or may not be to your liking, but you have no right to deny them to people of the appropriate maturity level. If you don’t like them, don’t play them. If you don’t want your kids to play them, BE A BETTER PARENT.
Serious nerve with me here… He is NOT honorable, his tactics, broken promises of good faith, and pandering demonstrate it time and again. If you like him, good for you, but please don’t claim he’s something he’s not. I’ve paid very close attention to Lieberman since I was 12 years old.
November 7th, 2008 at 11:13 am
And yes I know he’s been in the Senate since 1988, like I said, every time election year comes along, he’s got a new underhanded trick to wheel out.
And yes Um Cara, Tipper Gore worked with him during the 1993 crusade/misuse of power.
One reason I’m glad hilary didn’t make it in, that horrible FEPA bill.

“Lieberman is an American hero”Posted by Dart Easterday
November 6th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
Okay….now we are going a bit far astern. Hero? No. Once honored member of a candidacy for leading our country…yes. The operative term is, “once”. He has made several decisions since 2000 that undermine that statement. I won’t go through all of them, but it started with his undermining of the recount effort shortly after the initial election effort in 2000. We are now at a point where he actively campaigned against Democratic congressional and presidential candidates in the last election. He is not a member of the Democratic party, and holds his chairmanship with participation in the Democratic caucus at the pleasure of the Democratic Party. He has done little to maintain their pleasure, lately.
I believe his options should be simple…
Join the Democratic Party (we’ll let all the crap flow under the bridge and start anew) and keep your chairmanship with participation in the caucus….or….stay an independent and lose the participation and chairmanship….or….join the Republican Party and sleep in the bed that you have made for yourself.
November 7th, 2008 at 11:37 am
I have to agree with Eric, who said it would be a good sign of positive change to not throw him ot right away. Let the voters do it in 2-4 years if he does not get the playbook.

The Dems should be careful. He’s absolutely dangerous.
November 7th, 2008 at 11:50 am
There is no excuse as far as I am concerned for Joe Lieberman. He has had his last hurrah……he suddenly turned into an old geezer who couldn’t make a sensible decision…flip flopping back and forth…it is time for him to retire and leave gracefully while he has his dignity in tact.
November 7th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Tom Hanna: “and the Republican Party handed him up a long time colleague he was able to endorse on a silver platter.”
Excuse me? The Republican Party handed McCain to Joe Lieberman?
Uh, I think it was ex-Republicans, like me, who voted for McCain in the primaries in the hopes the Republican Party would return to sanity. Plenty of conservative professional haters like Ann Coulter swore they’d vote for a Democrat over McCain.
Unfortunately, McCain started sounding more and more like a NeoCon as the campaign went along. Palin, NeoCons, Joe the Plumber and haters like Hannity and Coulter, Dobson and Robertson, Fox and conservative radio, (did more to sink McCain than any liberals or Democrats could have done.
Lieberman, in my opinion, is still a decent enough guy. He just backed the losing party in this race.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:29 am
Typical progressives. Follow our thoughts and only our thoughts or you shall pay.
November 8th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
He’s not decent. He’s a sniveling weasel, panderer, and if he had any honor he wouldn’t break promises and lie to win court decisions.
