Look What Obama’s Victory Causes To Crawl Out Of The Woodwork

November 9th, 2008, 10:29 AM EST

In Midland, MI, Randy Gray celebrated Obama’s victory by walking along the sidewalk in Knights of Ku Klux Klan regalia while toting a handgun.  He first said this had nothing to do with the election results, but later admitted that was not the case. (h/t Crooks and Liars) Gray previously made news when he was dismissed by the Ron Paul campaign once they discovered his KKK ties.

A bit of research on Gray reveals he was elected by Republicans on August 5 to be a precinct delegate in Midland County.  His role is to attend state Republican conventions and organize activities for Republican candidates in his district.

  1. How is walking around in public toting a handgun not violating the law? Even if he had a carry permit – the gun has to be concealed, to my understanding.

Any Texans out there know any details on this?

  2. I sincerely hope the secret service has people inside the Klan and similar organizations, by the way.

  3. I’m not sure that the Secret Service does, but certainly the FBI does.

As a minority, I’m not down with the KKK. At all. I wouldn’t comment on this guy’s act of protest (or whatever the hell he’s doing) if he wasn’t “toting a gun”! WTF? That’s like saying, I dare any n*gger, k*ok, etc. to challenge me. I’ll blow their brains out.

    I’m just sayin’.

  4. i hate this spam filter

  5. i hate it i hate it i hate it I HATE IT

  6. I’m not sure that the Secret Service does, but certainly the FBI does.

  9. It’s actually easier to get a permit to carry a holstered, visible weapon that a CCW permit in Tennessee, Florida and Texas, or it was when I lived in those respective states.

I must admit it’s been years, and I vaguely remember Florida having a ‘3 step’ law, meaning you had to have 3 actions before firing the gun or you could be liable for manslaughter, I.E. Remove from case/holster, cock/ready, release safety. Supposedly made you think about your actions. Again, not sure, this is 80% faulty memory and 20% speculation based on that memory.

  10. I used to live in Texas, and before CCW there was actually no ‘legal’ way to carry a handgun, period. Folks did it, but they were breaking the law.

I.e. if you wanted to go from your house to the gun range with your handgun, you technically were breaking the law (to my understanding).

If I remember correctly there was some provision that you could carry it in your car if you were crossing more than two counties or something…

Anyway, it sounds to me like this sheriff was semi condoning the actions of this guy, and it sounds like this guy is fairly ‘respected’ in Midland. Creepy

  11. I just came across an article in yesterday’s paper about how gun sales have “boomed” since O’s election. Let me give ya’ll a quote, from the Free Lance Star, article titled “Fears of Dem crackdown lead to boom in gun sales” by Dena Potter.

“Last month, as an Obama win looked increasingly inevitable, there were more than 108,000 more background checks for gun purchases than in October 2007, a 15 percent increase. And they were up about 8 percent for the year as of Oct. 26, according to the FBI.”

Yup, folks are scared of losing their 2nd amendment rights. Well, as seen in Alan’s thread, some people SHOULD lose them.

  12. Oh well, it wouldn’t be “Right-Wing” of me to let you all go on in your rhetoric and speculation and wasting your hate on misinformation. The action took place in Midland, Michigan.

It pays to be a life-long learner.

  13. In many states, including Oregon, guns can be carried as long as they are in “plain sight”.
I am glad this guy is out in the open. Anyone who acknowledges his feelings is taking the first step in possibly learning how to change. LOL
As I noticed from the photo….there is no crowd following him. This is why we use the “bell curve”…..there is room at both tails for the total fringe creatures.

  14. Yup, I saw Midland and assumed Texas.

    Thanks, FAB.

  15. By the way, FAB – I didn’t see any rhetoric, just some folks with questions.

Had this been an article about some crazed anarchists at a protest, I have no doubt there would have been a number of messages condemning ‘liberals’

The KKK is no more representative of conservatives (or liberals) than nutty anarchists are of liberals (or conservatives).

    Kooks are Kooks, period.

  16. Question, if anyone is interested in responding:

Anyone else concerned that the price of oil will drop TOO low? Right now we’re at $61 a barrel. As a commuter who spends 2 hours on the road each work day, I’d like to see it affordable. But I’m worried about what OPEC will do to bring the price back up, and how far up it will go. They’ve already cut supply to try to bring it up. They were supposed to meet Nov. 18, but had an emergency meeting a couple weeks ago.

  17. Melissa Etheridge is not going to pay her taxes bc she does not have the same right to marry afforded by everyone else. I hope other high-profile Californians jump on that band wagon. It’s a great, peaceful act of civil protest.

  18. CHERYL CARROLL:

I hope Melissa Etheridge doesn’t pay her taxes because “she isn’t getting her way”. Then I won’t pay my taxes because I don’t want them using my money for Planned Parenthood or companies using embryos for stem cell research or school taxes because I don’t like them using the children for social engineering. I will have more money to spend on things much more important.

  19. Again, not sure, this is 80% faulty memory and 20% speculation based on that memory.

Thank you for your candor. But, most of us that venture into Liberalaland are already aware of the natives’ basis for their opinions and arguments.

  20. In my N.C. you can carry a gun in a holster anywhere except a bar or a place with a “No Weapons” sign clearly displayed. No permit required to carry unless it’s concealed—only need a permit to buy a gun,and then if you have a police record you can’t get one.

A racist is a racist—I don’t care of you wear a white robe or a business suit.Any person/group or organisation that promotes one race over another is racist.Doesn’t matter if its the Klan/Skin Heads/NAACP/Nazis/or Affirmative Action—its racist.

I grew up and still live in Greensboro NC–I remember as a child watching TV here when the police turned the dogs on MLK—that was Racism.1979 shoot-out here drew national attention as was portrayed as a black/white race issue and it wasn’t.The riot was between the KKK and The Communist Workers Party. It resulted from a “Death to the Klan Rally” that the CWP was having. When the CWP realized that the Klan showed up,they quickly took their rally into a community where the residents were mostly black.

Five people were killed (only one was black )The truth is that none of the KKK memebers were from Greensboro—none of the CWP memebers were from the community where they carried their rally.Communist and Klan—I don’t care how many where killed or on which side they were on—racist fighting racist as far as I see it.

  21. …Again, not sure, this is 80% faulty memory and 20% speculation based on that memory.

Thank you for your candor. But, most of us that venture into Liberalaland are already aware of the natives’ basis for their opinions and arguments.

  22. This is the LAST time I’ll mention this, I promise, but I wish they would just delete the ‘Summer Lovin’’, page.

It’s driving me crazy, especially since I don’t know why they ONLY advertise on THAT page, and so many other people cannot get through the spam filters.

  23. [...] Obama and that now we can sit back with equanimity and accuse anyone who thinks there’s racism still to be combated in America as not getting it. Posted in Liberaland by Alan leave a comment • [...]

  24. Thanks for pointing this out. I assume you contacted the state GOP (for whatever state Midland County is in) so they could determine if it was legally possible to give him the boot? By the way is Bob Byrd still in the Senate leadership?

“Precinct delegates” are usually unopposed. Not sure about whatever state he is in, but in my state if unopposed your name doesn’t even appear on the ballot – you get the job automatically just by filing. The same applies to Democrats, so had he wanted to call himself a Democrat, he could probably be a “precinct delegate” for them.

  25. 4 Patriots~ do what you feel you need to do, man. Peaceful civil protest. I won’t argue.

  26. The GOP should give him the boot. The GOP in Arkansas gave Ralph Forbes the boot after they found out that he was an active member of the Klan.

  27. There is nothing wrong with the Klan!

  28. People pick up the flag and have absolutely no clue what it represents—the antithesis of everything KKK.

It’s like a Nazi wearing the Star of David.

  29. Dear Alan

I am an old timer. KKK is as bad as Black Panther. Both group were race hater. One hated Black and other hated white. One will were white robe other group will were black lether jacket. Almost like Archi Bunker vs George Jefferson. Buth were NYC TV show charectors.

To answer to one of your blooger. KKK represantation is not USA flag but a “Burning Cross.” USA Flag represent war. KKK flag is “Confedarate flag.”

  31. …there is nothing wrong with the Klan. Whoa dude, this isn’t Tenn. in 1868

  32. LOPA—The Confederate Flag is NOT the KKK flag–it’s only what they choose to hide behind.Just like what Rocky said about the Nazi’s using the Star of David.

  33. That,s a major problem with the GOP. THE GOP has failed and their agenda fueld by right wing talk radio does not help. I listen to SEAN and RUSH plus several other shows and alot of callers call in saying we lost our country. Look where the base of THE GOP is. It,s down south. Before OBAMA won,he was called everything and unAMERICAN. THE GOP needs to reach out to people they never reached out to before. This country is not just smalltown AMERICA and rural AMERICA. People that think this are not being open minded. GOP has to change it,s image because extreme right wing nuts have nothing to turn to. I listen to C-SPAN and some of those callers are real right of THE GOP. Go back and look at the civil rights movement. THE GOP lead the waywith IKE. The DNC was a split party with nothern DEMS and DIXIECRATS. JFK came inpicked LBJ from the south that fought for civil rights and the DIXIECRATS that fought the civil right movement fled to the GOP. They came into power under REAGAN with the middle AMERICA viewpoint and those sort of people found a home in THE GOP. That,s my own point. Look at crime rates in inner cities. THE GOP does not reach out to black people with their platform is another point. Most people of color are not residents of smalltown and rural AMERICA is another point. THE GOP has to change is the bottom line.

  34. The confederate flag is not the flag of the KKK. It was the flag of the southern states that wanted to secede from the Union in the 1800’s. It was the flag that they chose to be their national flag if they were successful.

The KKK disgusts me. It is hard to think that anyone would want to be a part of their organization but this is America and according to our constitution they have the right to form and protest so long as they are peaceful and don’t harm anyone.

By the way, Sen. Robert Byrd, D, WVA, is a former klansman in his day. Maybe he should be forced to resign his seat in the U.S. Senate.

Did you know that MLK was a Republican? Do some research, if you don’t believe me.

“THE GOP does not reach out to black people with their platform is another point.” by Steve

Because most black people have been brainwashed by the DEMwits. I am black and Republican, and thank God, I have found the truth. The party may not be what you and I would like it, but CHANGE is coming.
LiberALANd, I can bother that word, can’t I?

  37. FAIR AND BALANCED ,why the anger? I said IKE,who was the president in the 50,s. Being black we liked members of both parties and IKE was well liked in this home. I voted for NIXON twice. Go back and read my post. JAMES BROWN the soul singer voted for NIXON as well. The GOP was a modrate party till REAGAN came along. It,s a fact that the dixiecrats became the voice of GOP with smalltown values with REAGAN leading the way. Take AMERICA back etc, etc. The very divison we have today was created by your savior RONALD REAGAN who was the worst domestic president we ever had. Trickle down money, union buster,i maybe wrong on this 1,was gold backing the dollar when he came into office? Poor folks had no voice under that guy. We went 12 years into the wilderness till CLINTON came along. We got fooled (not me) by BUSH with this tough war talk and look at us now. My OVERALL point ,if THE GOP doesn,t get moderates back in control of the party,THE GOP will be lost. Get the REAGAN thinking folks out.

  38. “The very divison we have today was created by your savior RONALD REAGAN”

Steve, no anger. I can say, honestly, that I was not a Republican when Reagan was in office. I have to say, however, that the GOP will not be lost.

Americans have been getting killed in Iraq and Afghanistan with some frequency, what do you mean by ’safe’ – I don’t want to assume the wrong thing.

  42. “till CLINTON came along.”

How many black people accumulated wealth during that time?
Do you expect many to under The One in 4 years?

  44. FAB,

I don’t live in America – and I don’t think Iraq had anything to do with the war on terror. I too have family who has fought in that war, though they have been lucky enough to all come home unhurt so far (one niece remains in Iraq). I’m very sorry to hear about your grandnephew.

The closest way the war in Iraq is related to the war on terror is that is has created easier American targets for Al Queda and others to attack than people on US soil, I consider that a horrible way to use our soldiers.

I sincerely hope Obama brings them home soon.

  45. Um Cara, thanks for your condolences. Are you an American?

I know they will come home. Obama and McCain’s differences were the timing. It looks like now, from all accounts of the media, that Obama is setting a timeline himself. Smart move, considering that was McCain’s plan as well as Bush’s.

I’m surprised they have a computer…didn’t know Bubba the Idiot could even read.

  48. Yes, I’m American – I have been living and working in Brazil the past couple of years, and will probably be here another couple years (not here for political reasons or anything, just where my company transfered me).

Thank you for your prayers for my niece.

  49. Sure, there’s racism in the Democratic Party. But I see more of it among Republicans.

It should be noted, KKK doesn’t only hate blacks, they hate Jews and Catholics, as well.

Bob Barr spoke to the Aryan Nation. David Duke ran on the Republican ticket. Randy Weaver, a registered Republican, had Aryan sympathies.

Shoot, just watching the RNC was a joke.

  50. Sarah,

I would call your reaction to anyone or anything that disagrees with you racist. You have no tolerance for any other view.

  51. 4Patriots: “I would call your reaction to anyone or anything that disagrees with you racist. You have no tolerance for any other view.”

An extremist like yourself might be inclined to cram life’s ambiguities into neat little black-or-white categories, but you’d be cheating yourself and your country by the disservice.
