Thanks for sharing….
Who cares what shape the skin’s in. Used to have an outie, now it’s an innie. Big whoop.
I feel the warmth…..aint it a great nation that can accept a transgender person as a leader in the community…..how about ….being judged by their character rather than the shape of their skin! Wowzer….that sounds kinda familiar. LOL
Aye karumba!!
Sarah,
Since I did not post any of those comments towards you, (but if you wish, go ahead and apply them) I will not waste my time responding to what you said.
I will only say that my message to Cheryl Carroll happened (and I make no apologizes)after I posted a message in the “Welcome Right Winger” section. Why don’t you take a look?

Wow Alan. Bored?
November 10th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
What’s wrong with this picture? hhhmmmmmmm………
November 10th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Yeaahhhh, there’s somethin that’s just not quite right about this, but I cant seem to put my finger on it.
November 10th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
The future of LiberALANd, it is.
November 10th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
No wonder Alan is excited about Science in the WH. He will need it, if this is how he wants LiberALANd.
November 10th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Whatever. As long as he or she completes the task that his or her electorate elected her or him to complete.
On a related note, he or she should call up Melissa Etheridge.
On another related note, transgender people need to be clear on whether they’d like to be called he or she.
November 10th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Funny Alan, I looked at this post about an hour ago and said I wasn’t going to touch this. But I can’t seem to let you continue going down a slippery slope after falling off a cliff already. Wake up!
November 10th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
I wonder if Stu expects everyone to keep a straight face and be serious when he’s fielding questions from reporters? Well at least he’ll be able to have an abortion if he gets pregnant, huh Sarah?
November 10th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
First Obama elected
now this Mayor allen you should run for Senator
November 10th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
The mayor must have a split personality. He or she is probally a independant.
November 10th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
What is this world coming to? Why is this even newsworthy? With all the major problems in our country we are talking about a pathetic mental case. Is he a inspiration for the youth?
November 10th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
He’s the future, Denise
November 10th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
What a petty lot you are. Diversity is what makes the world go round, and Alan is to be applauded for bringing you a wide range of guests. Or are you so insecure, you can’t stomach the idea that transgender people have lives and voices too?
How about a little growing up, kids…
November 10th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
He should have stayed a man, he’s not very pretty. Just my opinion.
November 10th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
If he’s more comfortable as a woman, bully for him. The question is, is he going to do a good job, and is this news?
Too big of a deal being made of this kind of stuff. I don’t care what kind of plumbing you have, I want to know what kind of job you’ll do in office.
November 10th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
“He’s the future, Denise” posted by Trees
Yeah, in the great LiberALANd governed by Alan, himself.
“Diversity is what makes the world go round,”
“How about a little growing up, kids” posted by John McKee
In future LiberALANd world, there won’t be a diversity with cloned kids.
November 10th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
I don’t think clones are going to be a problem. Anything they clone would probably be for medical stock, not whole human beings.
November 10th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
Fair and Balanced, you’re a dolt. Get back to the sandpit.
November 10th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
Only if you come with me.
November 10th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
Tell me in the Bible (since undoubtedly, that’s what you’re using to base you’re opinion on) that gender roles are defined BEFORE our birth.
Oh, and please explain to me why Davis was so incredibly “close” to Jonathan.
The Bible isn’t as clear cut as you think it is. Furthermore, when you cite passages for me, I’d like you to cite who wrote them and WHEN.
Thank you.
It’s not because I DON’T believe, but because what we believe isn’t entirely accurate.
November 10th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
And don’t try to classify me as a liberal, bc I’m not.
Although, there’s nothing wrong with being a liberal OR a conservative.

I don’t know if you are talking to me but I do have a passage for you. But before I give it to you I want to ask you if you’ve every seen an ultrasound from a pregnant woman?
Jeremiah 1:5. You can look it up yourself and read it.
“what we (you) believe isn’t entirely accurate.”
Only if you let someone else tell you it isn’t.

Fair and Balanced:
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
Basically what most Christians cite as being proof that life begins at conception.
But the Bible also says abortion is OK:
If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life. — Exodus 21:22-23
Give them, O LORD: what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. — Hosea 9:14
Yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb. — Hosea 9:16
etc.

Really, Jim? Sounds like Judgement Day to me.
Just as I stated before, one day we will all know the truth.
November 11th, 2008 at 12:31 am
Jim, the only way you can make that argument is by removing the scripture from its context. You do know that right?
November 11th, 2008 at 12:40 am
Maybe on the verses from Hosea, but the verse from Exodus is direct – it’s the husbands right to exact any punishment, not a government.
November 11th, 2008 at 12:52 am
Jim I’m not saying this to be mean, it’s just an observation, but you remind me of one of my brothers. Rather than actually read the entire bible and learn it, he uses a concordance and attempts to make it say what he wants it to, and of course it says what it says not what he tries to make it say. My point? Why bother? If you don’t believe then of what value is it? It’s kind of like having an owners manual for a submarine, of what use is it?
November 11th, 2008 at 1:02 am
Oh, my goodness.
Nice rack.
November 11th, 2008 at 1:18 am
Trees, you can read a book and enjoy it’s literary value, it’s educational value, and in the case of the Bible, several children’s books and even AESOP – it’s moral and practical value.
What makes the Christian Bible more correct than the Quran? Tanakh? Adi Granth? Buddhavacana? The Vedas?
Do you prefer Bible’s which use a Septuagint or Masoretic basis of translation? Do you include all of the books that the Orthodox churches do?
Why do I read these books at all if I’m not religious?
That one I can answer. I like to learn. I find religion interesting. I like to compare and contrast them. I have a King James, NIV, NAS, and a NWT handy, as well as a JST and Book of Mormon. I have a Quran, an pretty much copies of all the books I mentioned above.
I like knowledge.
November 11th, 2008 at 1:23 am
Stu seems as qualified now to be President as Sarah Palin, maybe even more so. Would love to see the two of them debate on the national stage, maybe the potent issue of heels vs flats, or where to get the discounts at Saks. By the way, is there any relationship with the pollster Rasmussen? (A company owned by Fox).
November 11th, 2008 at 2:30 am
Yep, you’re a lot like my brother. He has an abundance of material as well, and he likes all the ones except the bible. (Actually he likes the bible just fine as long as it’s him putting meaning into the text rather than drawing it out.) In fact he bought the other books for this very reason, he claims this is evidence that substantiates an impossibility of any one being correct. His is a worldview that says it’s impossible to know if anything is true. Anyways, that’s the beauty of free will. We’re all free to believe and do whatever we want.
Can I share something with you? It’s my brother’s favorite saying, and he says it fairly regularly these days, he’s in the process of getting divorced. He has two kids, a seven year old and a five year old. Oh, the saying, right.
“I’ve never done anything in my life that I’m either ashamed or embarrassed of”
Sounds pretty self righteous and proud, what do you think? I won’t tell you why his wife is divorcing him, but he has lots to be ashamed of.
Please don’t think I’m comparing this last part to you Jimmy, cause I don’t even know you. I’m just sharing my experiences with you, that’s all. Its just the way I see things, and that’s all really, cause truth be told I have plenty to be both ashamed and embarrassed of. Anyway it’s been a pleasure meeting you, thanks for the conversation.
p.s. I really miss the deli’s on the east coast. We don’t have any good ones out here in cali. Also I read the Septuagint, although I have a Masoretic translation and sometimes I’ll use that because of the extensive translation notes. If we go back to the context of the scriptures we see that the Jews we’re commanded to be a light to the world, but in reality we see that they withdraw as an enclave within themselves. Don’t get me wrong I’m not an anti Semite, (all the first followers of Yeshua were Jewish) I just believe in a God of all humanity, that desires His word, (and therefore his light, think Genesis 1), to be proclaimed to all the nations. There I go again…..anyway your friend trees

4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.
Sorry Jim, I couldn’t help but notice a striking similarity between your reason cited above and Genesis 3.
Peace brother, trees

Let’s all be fair and balanced when it comes to this “Non Story.” Don’t you see the family resemblence to Alan? Look closely at the pictures and tell me how Alan is being fair? I’d suggest that this is “Yo Mama”, but we know that can’t be true. Is this your long lost father? Is this a family reunion piece leading to your happy ending? Cut the crap! Who can defend this as a good story? It’s a violation of his or her privacy. Drop it like it’s hot.
November 11th, 2008 at 7:03 am
Yeah, not a quote for me. I am often embarrassed or ashamed especially in the short term. It’s key to be honest with yourself first if you hope to be honest with others.
The best thing though, is that if you’re honest 100% with people, you tend to polarize the people for or against you pretty quickly. The reason that’s a good thing is that if people are going to judge you based on an indiscretion or faux pas regardless of your remorse then they probably aren’t very good people to begin with and can safely be ignored from then on.
I certainly don’t hide anything from my wife (who is not legally my wife but I call her that anyway) and we’ve been together almost 15 years. That’s longer than most actual marriages. We must be doing something right.
November 11th, 2008 at 7:48 am
cheryl,
I am assuming that when you ask when before our birth our gender roles are defined, you are not talking about the XY, XX factor?
It does say in the Bible (would have to look up verse) that God knows us in the womb.
November 11th, 2008 at 10:15 am
Jim from Jersey,
I do not think the scriptures you cited are saying that abortion is okay.
“If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life.” — Exodus 21:22-23
This is basically saying that anyone who harms the “fruit” of the womb will be punished.
When you compare ELECTIVE abortion to SPONTANEOUS abortion you are comparing two completely separate occurences. One is biological and natural, the other is performed by someone…..via choice.
November 11th, 2008 at 10:19 am
Fair and Balanced~ I know the Scriptures, thank you. You failed to answer the “who wrote this” part. Until you can answer THAT, don’t try to use Bible passages to defend your point.
November 11th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Jim from Jersey~ you’ve cited some excellent passages above! I’m not as familiar with Old Testament criticism as I am New Testament (textual criticsm is an actual field of study).
It’s not worth debating the Scriptures on face value, though. It’s like, I know what it SAYS, but why does it say what it says. Who wrote it?
We can draw a parallel from that to our Constitution, and the great debate on how to interpret it. Is it a living and changing document? Should our interpretations of the original text and amendments change as our society does, or should we stick with the same ol’?
Delving deeper, when we look at WHO wrote the Constitution and WHY they wrote it, doesn’t that give us a greater understanding of the document’s meaning and purpose?
I’m sure you’d agree. But you know, there are those who just take things at face-value. Not heavy thinkers, those folks.

‘Mouse said~
“Oh, my goodness.

lol
November 11th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Certainly Cheryl, intent is something that often disappears as time goes on.
Certainly for the Constitution we are luckier than with the Bible or Quran, given the relative infancy of the document.
Several documents from several of the drafters are in support of secular society, not to mention George III’s supposed “Divine Right” was something the founding fathers were trying to avoid in establishing their government.
November 11th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
“try to use Bible passages to defend your point.”
Cheryl
If you know the Scriptures then DO NOT ASK me any thing about them. I do not have to defend my faith to you or any one else. I know in Who and what I believe.
Do me a favor. The next time you see me post Scriptures or talk about my faith, DO NOT ASK ME ANY QUESTIONS unless it is directed to you. Thank you very much.
November 11th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Okay, I’m not going into biblical land with everyone else but I was raised Catholic so I know exactly what you guys are talking about. Rather than debating bible passages I have a suggestion for everyone. Pick a side. You are orthodox or non-orthodox, no exceptions. For anyone not clear on this: orthodox accept the bible (or any sacred text) as the word of God and completely accurate while non-orthodox believe that man has polluted the word of God and made a few critical changes to ensure the survival of the church (or whatever motivation). I am non-orthodox and I’ll just stop there because I don’t get off on offending people.
Cheryl beat me to the point. Who wrote the bible and why? Answer that question and you’ll most likely see why I say to just pick one of the two sides.
November 11th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Ooo, good post, Eric. Props!
November 11th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Eric~ I disagree with your definition of orthodox, but your opinion is well stated.
Fair and Balanced~ Chill.
T. Mason~ Good point, but does it specifically lay out what aspects of our nature and personality that God knows about us? Even if it did, why should we use the Bible to guide us in the abortion debate vs the Koran or the Tao? I’m not really asking, I’m just saying. This is why our country hasn’t come to a consensus.
November 11th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
Cheryl Carroll: “This is why our country hasn’t come to a consensus.”
Well, that and the theological masturbation has gotten completely out of hand.
November 11th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Fair and Balanced: “Do me a favor. The next time you see me post Scriptures or talk about my faith, DO NOT ASK ME ANY QUESTIONS unless it is directed to you. Thank you very much.”
Wow, get your control-freak on, much? Why not just stick your fingers in your ears and holler, “I’m going to post in a public forum any way I want, but YOU have to follow rules I set down and treat me the way I dictate that I want to be treated, and if I say NO QUESTIONS, then I mean NO QUESTIONS.”
Utter horsepucky.
Hey….Wait a minute….(”Don’t ask questions”? “I’ll post all the Scripture I want”?)…..You’re Sarah Palin, aren’t you!
Gah! Busted!
November 11th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
Stu:
His motivation is obvious. “She” is the only “woman” that will allow him to get close to “her”. Conversely, “he” is the only “dude” that would touch such an ugly hag with a ten foot pole.
“They” are made for each other! I hope “they” are very happy. HAHA!
November 11th, 2008 at 5:46 pm
I need a drink and a stiff 1 at that. After viewing before and after.
November 11th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
More courage than I could ever muster….good for her/him.
November 11th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
I wonder if county clerks in California should require couples to get DNA proof of sexual designation in order to comply with Prop 8? Since we have the possibility of transgender folks “cheating” and getting to benefit from the multitude of “special rights” of married folks…..we should require everyone prove they are men or women.
Is it costly? Yep…in fact, I bet you’d have quite an uproar if you required proof by DNA…..he he he he….
Might even motivate some to reverse that proposition.
November 11th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Cheryl,
I am still not sure that if you did find a theological consensus across faiths that said that abortion is wrong that anything would change. You would still have a minority who would say it is still their choice.
November 11th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
“…a minority who would say it is still their choice.”
Ahh, but there in lies the hedge pin of democracy- MAJORITY rules. The majority is not supposed to rule unfairly (ethically speaking anyway), but the majority still rules. There will always be disagreement. Do we fight it out with our fists or with the ballot? Democracies recognize that we should fight this out with the ballot.
November 11th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
I agree it should be put to a vote. Who knows, we might be as surprised as the californians who didn’t think prop 8 would go the way it did.
November 11th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
For what it’s worth, the bible is a load of primitive bollocks – full of nastiness, contradictions and mumbo jumbo. So any argument that uses it as its basis is equally bollocks. Remember the old house built on sand? When will you daft fundies grow a brain? Evolve, for crissakes…
