The 10 Most Racist Reactions To Obama’s Victory

November 13th, 2008, 11:47 AM EST

In the spirit of Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis’ famous quote, “Sunlight is the best disinfectant,”  David Knowles’ Political Machine has the 10 most racist reactions to the Obama victory:

1. Yesterday, Tommy Christopher detailed the story of a bus load of Idaho elementary school tots chanting “Assassinate Obama! Assassinate Obama!”

2. In a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a high school teacher’s aide berated a bi-racial 16-year-old Obama supporter, (predicting we’d have a KFC flag and a new national anthem).

3. The Associated Press reports several cars in Long Island, New York, vandalized with anti-Obama messages, including promises to kill the president-elect.

4. At North Carolina State University, four students face expulsion for spay painting the phrases, “Let’s shoot that (N-word) in the head” and “Hang Obama by a noose.”

5. In Texas, Baylor University students awoke the morning after Obama’s victory to find a noose hanging from a tree in front of Morrison Hall.

6. In Maine, several black figures were found hanging from nooses on Mount Desert Island the day after Obama won.

7. California vandals went on a spray painting binge in Torrance, targeting cars with Obama bumper stickers. On one house the words “Go Back to Africa” were inscribed.

8. Of course, we all know of the Tennessee skinhead plot to kill random African Americans, and, with a wing and a prayer, Obama himself.

9. In Pennsylvania’s Apolacon Township, situated in an area known for KKK activity, an interracial couple looked out their front window to find the remnants of a burned cross.

10. Two men in the ironically named Friendsville, Pennsylvania were arrested for “racial intimidation and trespassing.”

Responses to this post...

  1. The creation of the bell curve demonstrated statistical analysis for many things….including reactions to election results. The examples you show are at the far ends of that curve of reactions. In this instance, I think we need to let the nuts lie on the ground and rot while the overwhelming majority move ahead in the light of positive change for our country.

  2. I thought BO was going to unite the world together and bring in new change. This sounds like something from the 50’s. I guess i’m not suprised, this is all the liberals have to talk about since they can’t shame the messiah.

  3. You are absolutely right, Other Man….
Your McCarthy tactic of characterizing our president elect as some sort of false prophet is just like the 50’s….
Be careful, the “Palin Pause” brain virus may be close to attaching itself to you.

  4. How very ugly and sad.

    Christ have mercy.

    Lord have mercy.

    Christ have mercy.

  5. Other Man, I would say that your statements are barely worth what the 2K of data bandwidth costs, but that would seriously devalue the bandwidth.

It’s ignorant people like you that keeps this country in the dark ages. “Messiah” really? Are you really that ignorant and small minded? Don’t bother asking, it was a rhetorical question. I already know you are.

  6. These things are very sad; but fortunately, from only the very radical segment. Both sides have them, we have to agree (heard very hateful things from the left these past 8 years). Let’s try to discourage them by not giving them the forum of reporting these things, don’t you think, Alan?

  7. You neglected to mention “Anyone Who Voted for McCain is Racist”.
    Thanks for the balance, Alan.

  8. Your McCarthy tactic of characterizing our president elect as some sort of false prophet is just like the 50’s….

Umm, I remember seeing people crying at Obama rallies like he was a rock star.

  9. “Umm, I remember seeing people crying at Obama rallies like he was a rock star.”

Your argument makes absolutely no sense (not surprisingly).

  10. Umm, I remember seeing people crying at Obama rallies like he was a rock star.

And the same kind of stuff happened at Palin rallies, to the extent where she had some huge phone in ‘town hall’ thing and spawned several fan-clubs.

The problem with America? People like you in charge way too much over the last 40 years. Spiteful, fearful, violence mongers.

  11. I love how the Conservatives think they’re impugning Obama by snidely labeling him “messiah,” like that’s more important to them than the fact they’re actually insulting Jesus Christ himself as they do it.

It’s like when all the Palin-supporters kept labeling those who didn’t support her, as “retards.” As if that wasn’t an insult to the Palin family, and Trig Palin.

  12. As for McCAIN,he voted againist MLK DAY. It will only get worst till the newness of a black wears off. Face it,listen to the talk shows. Alot of conservatives can not accept the fact. Alot of anger out their folks and it needs to stop and right wing talk radio should lead the way.

  13. Fairness Doctrine. We need it. Badly. The lack of it has caused a serious brain-drain.

The Fairness Doctrine not only encourages freedom of speech, it creates serious debate, which could lead to viable solutions for our country’s challenges.

  14. At least OTHER MAN gave Obama a chance… all the way up to 67 days before he took office.

  15. American voted not for a president who was Black, but for a president who offered hope to a country that is struggling in too many ways. Along the way we slayed some stereo types and forever decided that America has no required color nor age, gender or religion. Those of you who refuse to come forward with will be like yesterday, history!

  16. Most of these vandals are just pathetic little maggots.

They’re cowards, too. They don’t come to Harlem to prove what racists they are. They open their big mouths in these whitebread little towns dying a slow death somewhere in the bible belt. And you know why? Because if they came to Harlem they’d get eaten alive.

    Alan,
Why not man up against all the hate running rampant in the nation. Or is it only hate if it comes from the right?

  18. Titus:

I voted for Obama, the best candidate, but we need to be honest. Some of America voted for Obama, the black guy.

  19. Hi, Bernie in Michigan. I wonder if the radical gay agenda would be around if Catholic conservatives hadn’t targetted them with hate in the first place?

Either way, I can agree with you on one thing. Disturbing the peace is generally illegal.

  20. Why doesn’t this kind of stuff ever get reported on fox news? It seems you are always put on the defensive, why don’t you bring up topics?

  21. “Your McCarthy tactic of characterizing our president elect as some sort of false prophet is just like the 50’s….

Well, Other, since you were responding to my posting….

The reason people were crying at the Obama rallies was that they were weeping for all the misled saps who were wasting their votes on the Republicans. The rally goers were in mourning for the minority…like good liberals we are…..
    LOL
Sorry….it was just too much of a softball to not take a swing at….

Anyway, I do believe that we need to remind the racists to take their sheets off before sitting in the pews.

  22. I currently attend North Carolina State University where the racist messages were spray painted on the free-expression tunnel. The tunnel is a place for students to paint anything, provided it is not hate speech or contains foul language. The school has identified those responsible and has yet to decide if and how to punish them. Many are calling for expulsion and the administration seems to be afraid of first amendment lawsuits. I hope they do take swift action, yet the problem of extreme racism is bigger than many people would like to think. Comments that were posted on the website facebook the night of the election by people my age made my blood run cold. Here are a few examples:
-(I’m)still not giving up but counting down till someone puts this mother f**ker in the ground.
-(I’m) ready to see a mighty white man assasinate obama
-that socialist monkey will never be my president!

  23. At least OTHER MAN gave Obama a chance… all the way up to 67 days before he took office

I’m giving BO a chance. For the next 2 years he could either go though what he’d promised and pander to the far-left or relieze he has the huge responsibility to fix this economy.

  24. I recommend a public forgiveness rally. Each offending student should be forced to stand in full view of the assembly while the entire student body, one by one, passes before them forgiving them individually. I further suggest that each student be required to help with the local veterans hospital for one year.

These kids need our forgiveness and pity rather than hate. Hate is so easy when it is met with hate. When it is met with forgiving love, hate must vanish.

  25. The idea for a public forgiveness rally is a good one, but the school will not reveal the names of the students until they have been disciplined. Should they be allowed to continue to receive an education at a public university?

  26. They need many forms of education. If they are deprived of having access to the university, it would be a validation of their hate.
It also may be a secret reward to their subconscious motives of gaining attention and martyrdom.
I would keep them there and allow all to forgive them…..that way it would dry up all the false attention they seek.

  27. Ask any Christian about the power of forgiveness and redemption.
I am not Christian, but the power is not small…it’s transformational.

  28. “I thought BO was going to unite the world…”

What is that, a joke? And you have to use an insulting acronym rather than spell out the man’s name?

“This sounds like something from the 50’s.”

Exactly, and it shows us that some people are incapable of keeping up with the world—because they’re Neanderthals.

“…this is all the liberals have to talk about since they can’t shame the messiah.”

So in your opinion we should turn a blind eye to the racists and their despicable acts of terror?

  29. Pittsburgh,Pa.—Long Island,NY—Friendsville,Pa.—Mt Desert Island,Me.—Apolocan,Pa. And all my state has is 4 racist students from NC State(would like to see where they lived before they came to State). So many people will point fingers and consider almost everyone white from a southern state as a racist. When you look at Charlotte,Atlanta,Columbia,Raleigh,Richmond and any other large city in the south, you will find that most of the racial tension comes from northern transplants.I don’t know why—thats just the way it is here.
If you walk through the south and talk to any middle-aged man or woman–black or white(who grew up here),you won’t find that many differences.
But if you talk to any black (man or woman)in their mid 20’s,you will find them to be as racist if not more racist than any 1950’s gun-tottin’ tobacco chewin’ redneck—I don’t know why that is either.
Guess I am lucky to grow up were I have.In high school in the 70’s we had a few interacial couples—-no one had a problem with it.Where I work we are judged on performance and ability. We have had a few blacks over the years claim they were treated unfair because of their race, but their work record proved it to be untrue.
Anyone who voted for Obama—or didn’t vote for him–because of his race,is a racist.

  30. I go back and forth about that. I’m not sure that race playing a part in your voting decision necessarily makes you a racist if you are part of a historically oppressed minority. Especially this election. This one was a biggie.

  31. Mark I have to respectfully disagree with you here. This was a big election but not because of Obama’s race,I do understand what you are saying though.
Look at it this way—don’t vote history–vote for the future.

  32. Well, here’s where I’m coming from. Record turn out for african american voters and 90% + voting for Obama. Can’t believe that’s a coincidence.

And who could blame them? Truth is, if you’re a minority with a history of oppression that’s so recent that it can remembered rather than being read about, and especially if you have children that you want to have faith in their future, wouldn’t that be a big deal? I just think it was a pretty exciting thing that our WHOLE country could point to and be proud of.

And hey, we’re not talking about voting for Mike Tyson here. It took a guy that had to be just about perfect.

It’s one of those topics I think you can make a hell of a case either way. But I think I give you a racist free pass on this one if you factored it into your voting decision.

  33. Mark,
I think I do understand what you mean. I am white and never felt like I was voting for a black man; I supported a man who I believe is intelligent and cares about this country. But, at the same time, I went to an Obama rally (no Koolaide was served) and I sat next to a black woman who was bursting with pride. She was calling her friends and family and saying “guess where I am? I am at an Obama rally…” When Obama was ready to come out she called her sister in VA and was holding the phone up so she could hear him speak. I am not suggesting that the only reason she supported Obama was because of his race; I didn’t get into a deep discussion with her and would not assume she wasn’t bright enough to make a decision based on issues. But, as I talked to her, I was very moved by what Obama’s race meant to her. I have to say I felt honored to share the experience with her and see it from a different perspective. I do hope this post comes across as I meant it…I guess I will see by the responses :)

  34. Does anyone remember the manikin in California with the likness of Sarah Palin, that was hung in effigy by a couple of libs who claimed it was “art”?

  35. Apples and oranges, Willy.
It’s different from the McCain and Obama lynched effigies because in the past, blacks and white men were lynched.

Nonetheless the Reich Wingers are in complete chaos with no direction to the point that they’re willing to trust Michael Steele of all people to run the GOP. Meanwhile the base is broke, clinging to guns & God, and thinking they’re in the beginning of “red dawn” or some anti-communist movie.

Obama’s got a lot of work to do. Maybe he can’t win over the crazies but at least he can keep them contained.

  36. Just don’t understand how you can sit across from that Hannity queer person. He must be unbearable to be around since he and the Republicans got their asses kicked. For the most part he has nothing to say of value anyway.

  37. Kuvas, I do understand what you mean. Although I didn’t vote for Obama I can understand what it means to the black Americans. But, that said, it doesn’t justify voting for someone JUST for the color of their skin. I heard several black Americans say they didn’t agree with his policies, but were going to vote for him because he is black. So if he ends up hurting Americans with his policies, that will not help the black cause. Better to wait for someone they could agree with on issues.

  38. I’ve known Democrats who WON’T vote for a Republican,
Republicans who WON’T vote for a Democrat, Blacks who voted for the Democrat in EVERY election since JFK, and Democrats and Republicans who WON’T vote for a non white guy.

The most ill informed person that I’ve heard voted for Obama just because “we need to get some smart people in there”, and someone else who said the GOP has made too much of a mess already.

Most people voted for Obama because they feel his economic policies will serve more than the millionaires and billionaires of the world, and his foreign policies will be less reckless.

I don’t know anybody who voted for Obama because he was black, any more than they voted for Jessie Jackson, Alan Keyes or Al Sharpton because THEY are black.
I DO know of people who voted for McCain because he is white.

I’m not saying it’s 100% one sided, but no way can I see that the bulk of racism wasn’t AGAINST Obama.

  39. 4Patriots, the good thing is that Obama can’t really screw us up any more than Bush did. When you’re at the bottom, the only way to go is up.

  40. “Fairness Doctrine. We need it. Badly. The lack of it has caused a serious brain-drain. The Fairness Doctrine not only encourages freedom of speech, it creates serious debate, which could lead to viable solutions for our country’s challenges. Posted by Sarah”

No we don’t. It is the worst idea conceived by anyone in terms of balancing media content. The hate and misinformation spread by right wing radio is a product brought and sold everyday. We can’t just alter that product because we feel there is a problem. Alan and I are against the FD. It doesn’t create serious debate; only red tape nightmares. The brain-drain is a self selected one for most people so we can’t remove the bottle; only offer alternatives. Here is one solution: encourage buisnesses that support stations with balanced format and make clear to stations that do not that you discourage ads and don’t shop with their sponsors because of the imbalance. What the govt can do is limit the number of licenses (like Alan said).

  41. The fairness doctrine is a trap. If we make martyrs of the whining talk show losers, then we’d be feeding their hate-filled rantings.
The best fairness doctrine activity is to write their sponsors with your opinions of them…..and noting that you won’t buy the sponsor’s stuff anymore. That gets right to the crux of the matter…..money.

  42. Oldlefty, obviously, we are not in the same circles, because I never heard anyone say they were going to vote for McCain because he is white. And, I’m not saying anything about racism. I’m saying people just didn’t think about what they were voting for; being caught up in the emotion. If it wasn’t against democracy, I would suggest having everyone take a test before voting. I heard too much ignorance. JUST KIDDING!!!

  43. 4Pat, Are you a shill for a multi-national corporation? Are you upset that Obama owes very little to major corps. And that he is not beholden to them?

  44. “4Pat says:”(heard very hateful things from the left these past 8 years)” Yes you did! Most ALL of it directly related to the POLICY of this administration and how damaging and wrong it has been! Don’t be intellectually dishonest. Credibility is Important.

  45. Incredible that decades of Fairness Doctrine are deemed a “failure” because journalists are too frigging lazy, and station owners want to make more bank using our airwaves.

How is it that the Fairness Doctrine seemed to work for 40 years, until Reagan and Bush Sr. got ahold of it?

Poppycock. Writing letters to sponsors is bogus. WHY in the F should ANY one of us have to write to sponsors, with weak-kneed, whiney letters asking them to yank their advertising dollars (when rage clearly sells these days), because stations and advertisers are USING THE PUBLIC AIRWAVES OWNED BY ALL AMERICANS to make a buck?

As much as I respect Alan, his anti-Fairness Doctrine stance is, I suspect, in his own best interests. Again, we’re living in an Age of Rage, when media resembling Jerry Springer, WWF and KKK rallies tend to make the big bucks. How many talking heads, liberal and conservative, would have their shows cancelled in a trice? The weeping and gnashing of teeth in radioland would be epic.

But is a lack of truly balanced views intellectually healthy for America? Hell, no. It just creates more one-view junkies.

    My opinion, anyway.

  46. Alan, do you (or any of your followers)know how many Blacks did NOT vote for Obama? Just curious.

  47. Grandmother,

    Who cares?

Do you know how many whites did or did not vote for McCain?

    What about Hispanics and Asians?

Should ALL the whites who voted for McCain,(in spite of the horrendous record of his party), just form The White Nationalist Party?

  48. The man is a lying hypocritical politician. Much like all the others.

  49. SARAH,their is no fairness and a gov,t ruling on the FCC that TIPPER GORE helped push back in the late 80,s on censorship of music. This ruling helped multi dollar big wigs buy up alot of media markets. This had alot to due with public radio. It also had alot to do with music and i like MRS GORE,but she made me mad on music censorship. Artist like MO JO NIXON,REM,VIOLENT FEMMES,LOU REED,THE CLASH,SONIC YOUTH AND RAP MUSIC put a big dent into mainstream radio. Public radio was liberal voice and the outlet for new music. Now the media gaints buyed up alot of newspapers and radio stations. In alot of markets,CLEAR CHANNEL owns about every radio station. The owner of FOX owns alot of media markets. New artist, mainly rock, can not get air play in alot of markets and the dj,s have to stick to a certain playlist. At the sametime, right wing talk radio took over the air waves on am radio that was a music outlet for 50,s,60,s and 70,s oldies. The same media gaints own alot of the tv channels and newspapers as well. I love music and politics and the biggest lie out their is the liberal media. THE RIGHT owns the radio stations, the tv channels and the newspapers. We need a fairness act.
