More Threats Against Obama Than Other Presidents-Elect
Normally, this kind of stuff spikes after an election, but it’s spiked more for Barack Obama than for any other president-elect.
…since the Nov. 4 election, law enforcement officials have seen more potentially threatening writings, Internet postings and other activity directed at Obama than has been seen with any past president-elect, said officials aware of the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity because the issue of a president’s security is so sensitive.
The Secret Service warns not to assume any threats have to do with racism. Nevertheless:
One of the most popular white supremacist Web sites got more than 2,000 new members the day after the election, compared with 91 new members on Election Day, according to an AP count.
Other already-publicized examples indicate a race-based objection to his forthcoming presidency.
Earlier this week, the Secret Service looked into the case of a sign posted on a tree in Vay, Idaho, with Obama’s name and the offer of a “free public hanging.” In North Carolina, civil rights officials complained of threatening racist graffiti targeting Obama found in a tunnel near the North Carolina State University campus.
And in a Maine convenience store, an Associated Press reporter saw a sign inviting customers to join a betting pool on when Obama might fall victim to an assassin. The sign solicited $1 entries into “The Osama Obama Shotgun Pool,” saying the money would go to the person picking the date closest to when Obama was attacked. “Let’s hope we have a winner,” said the sign, since taken down.
Who in their right minds would do such things? Answer: Nobody.
Could be that since Obama is making history as our first African-American president that the reporting about such things is more, so called “news worthy”.
The “mainstream media” were cheerleaders for the Obama campaign and are reporting such incidences to show how American is a “mean country”.

I hope the Secret Service triples or quadruples his protection. He needs to travel in a tank. The Obamatank. I’m obviously not a huge fan of him but he’s our President-elect and there are too many nuts around.

I tend to believe this. A friend of mine who lives in Charlotte, NC has reported many negative things. It’s sad but goes to show the right is crazed.

It is dreadfully sad that such people cannot see how they would ultimately benefit from a new president who will lead in the healing of the old wounds of America and a better way of living together for all of us.
We can only hope that they will be rendered powerless by the wave of peace and love manifested by millions of us in the US and throughout the world.
Those who hold on to the old consciousness of fear & separateness, ..those who act out their anger violently (even if it remains symbolic threats) will not succeed in holding back the progress of humanity because the wave of positive change is too strong for them.
They will become as fish trapped in a glass bowl…looking out at a new earth which they cannot experience so long as they stay in their old ways.

I firmly believe that Sean, your partner, is significantly responsible for some of these situations. When one continually suggests that “Do we really know who Obama is?” with repeated…no, obsessive references to Bill Ayers and the rest of the garbage….that instigates fear and aggressive feelings.
Sean should offer the American public an apology for ensighting violance.

The thing that bothers Hannity the most is, that, after all of his editing sound bites, bloviating, and constant references to all the “radical” associations, in the end he didn’t make any difference.

a secret service agent was arrested this week for soliciting a prostitute. i really, really hope this isn’t an indication of the majority of secret service agents protecting obama. if so, we’re in trouble. no joke.

It also doesn’t help that Rush Limbaugh called Obama “creepy” about 20 times the other day during his 3 hour show and then the next day did it again. That’s his no.1 talking point, “Obama is CREEEEEPY!”
He also calls him a “thug” and a “man-boy”.
I don’t think he would use those kinds of words if Obama weren’t black.
And there’s probably other words he would use as well, but he knows he’d be off the air for doing so.

Look to turning off the source of the fear and anger. Look to remove the distortions from the airwaves.
Fair and honest critisism is always proper and should be encouraged. Fear mongering, ensighting to violant behavior, and outright hate talk should be eliminated and not tolerated by the people who run this country….us.
Confront the evil…don’t just whine about it. When you hear the talk, stop and confront it.

From what I have seen lately of the Liberal Mind Set
#1–Whites can only hate other whites(or it’s racism)
#2–Blacks can hate whites/latinos/and other blacks
#3–Latinos can hate anyone as long as they are in our country illegally.

poor fools…their only tool is a hammer and now everything looks like a nail! I suppose it’s better to let them let off their steam with words, signs and symbols of hatred, rather than performance of acting out on their reality. However there are some close enough to the mental edge that hearing or seeing these words /signs will actully be pushed over that edge to action. Then the signmakers will feel guilty and say “it’s not my fault!” Hannity voices strong political commentary representing his one sided views in a regularly mean, angry, passionate fashion. He’d be the first to deny culpability if harm occured to our president elect. However, he and those like him like Rush are the principal instigators of a loss of civility! You won’t catch either saying they are sorry! No, hatred rhetoric earns them too much personal wealth! Ditto for those immitators on the left. Frankly, the country would do much better without these mean spirited persons.

All I heard during the primary and then again during the election was, ” People will say the’ll vote for a black man to be socially correct, but when they go into that election booth they won’t vote for Obama.” Well, that idea got shot to hell! The people of the USA have spoken. 84% of people in foreign countries would have voted for Obama. The people of the world have spoken. What will THEY say if the next four years are the success that most believe it will be? I guess the rest of the cons. will disappear from this website, I’ve seen quite a few disappear since the election.

Good points Lefty—-But I do feel that anyone who voted for Obama because of his race is a racist.
The people who voted for Obama because of his race belittle his education,his acomplishments as a lawyer,and even his heritage as an afircan-american.
The same as those who voted for McCain becuase of his race.It insults his military service and history and his acomplishments as a senator.
I even feel that voting Democrat or Republican straight ticket is hypocritcal. We all know that there are sorry politicians on both sides.The “D” and “R” button voting machines should be outlawed and the “D” and “R” should not be beside a candidates name on the list.Make people go out and learn about who they are voting for.Race and Political party shouldn’t be a deciding factor.

It is clear with Obama’s past association with Bill Ayers alone would be reason enough to deny him a security clearance. That is just the way it works. No threat, just the facts.

Can anybody show me the scorecard on threats to presidents- elect in, say, the past forty years? All threats should be taken seriously and investigated.
I don’t remember any such publicity in the past for former presidents elect. Oh, maybe one here or there, but they were investigated without much fanfare from the media.

Security clearance is code for……..Security Clearance. It is a very much needed necessity for a sensitive jobs such as Security Admisor, or CIA Operative, or FBI Agent, etc. Not everybody can or should be in those positions. In saying that, past associations does matter greatly when applying for such positions. It does show character and judgement and whether or not a person could be trusted with sensitive national security information.

I listen to Sean daily. He is simply saying that to be President of the U.S., the most powerful job in the world, you need good judgement and if you don’t have good character how do you have the right judgement to make important decisions.
Character and judgement are very important traits for anyone to have. Would you not agree?
