The $7 Million Woman?

At least one pubishing guru says it’s not out of line.
“Bill Clinton made more than $10 million when he signed his deal in 2001 and that was the most for a former president,” says the source. “Sarah brings something different to the table – there is so much curiosity surrounding her and her life. If they move fast and get this thing on shelves, then a $7 million advance could be worth it.”
I don’t know about you, but I don’t have any such curiosity.

$7 mill for this airhead? Wow! wonder what the DC Comics version of W will bring?
November 18th, 2008 at 12:17 am
I would rather see her in the December Playboy ..
November 18th, 2008 at 12:26 am
Shes just like Hillary, NOT PRESIDENTIAL METERIAL !
November 18th, 2008 at 12:27 am
Alan,
You are so jealous of this woman….and scared….how much did Hillary get for that total propaganda book she put out? 8 million….and admit it, you couldn’t wait to run out and plunk down your $24.95 to buy it and take it to bed with you…..just because nobody wants to read any of the crap you write, get over it, would ya?
November 18th, 2008 at 12:29 am
If someone gave Me a copy of Her book for free I would keep it in my bathroom , so when I ran out of t–paper I would have something to wipe with! Also I wonder if the book will include a chapter on shooting beautifull wolves from aircraft! She supports that doesn’t She? What a cold hearted fake!
November 18th, 2008 at 12:33 am
Alan; are you making Palin money ? LOLLLLLL !
November 18th, 2008 at 12:36 am
Alan I’ve watched you since you first came on the public scene and for the most part I’ve agreed with your views. This past year though I’ve found that your common sense has really gone down into the low IQ range. I don’t say this with any sense of pleasure but I find myself hearing what you are saying and it doesn’t make any sense. Hopefully I’m wrong but looking at the future of this next administration I have very serious doubts about where this country is heading, I just hope we don’t destroy ourselves from within, I’m 62 years old and have been a Democrat for over half my life but I am afraid of where this country’s future is heading. I don’t fear for myself so much but for my daughter’s and my grandson’s futures is what concerns me greatly, only time will tell what the future holds for us and I pray with all my heart I’m wrong in my beliefs of what is to become of this once great country. I’ve watched the morals of this country eroded, John Kennedy once said ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country, this quote is greatly needed in our society today because we have lost our moral and spiritual responsibility to this great nation.
November 18th, 2008 at 1:03 am
I can hardly believe I’m wasting my time putting a comment on here as much as I couldn’t believe the flak over this to begin with. If she wants to put out a book, who cares and whos buisness is it anyway. If someone wants to buy it they will, and if they don’t they won’t. Aren’t there more important things to talk about! How many books will be written about Obama? I didn’t vote for him, but he’s our (The United States) President. Lets support him and give him a chance. Personally, I don’t care if they all write a book. Maybe I will too! I’m a 24 year Navy Veteran. I got a few stories. Your normally thought provoking Alan, but if a publishing company offered you a 7 mill. advance for a book, wouldn’t you take it? I would.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:17 am
You lack intellectual curiosity? Sounds like you have more in common with George Bush than you knew.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:35 am
Hi, times flyin46, I’m in the same boat you’re in. I’m a conservative Democrat, but I can’t vote Dem because of their social issues. The far left is busy driving the bus off the cliff, and I worry too. Give your grandson a hug for me. I worry about his future as well. Thanks for weighing in; it’s reassuring to hear we haven’t all lost our minds.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:36 am
I rather see her in playboy as well.
November 18th, 2008 at 6:50 am
I’ll buy the book more for signalling purposes than anything else.
Extra satisfaction if there is a copy of “Red, White & Liberal: How Left Is Right & Right Is Wrong” at which to thumb the nose.
November 18th, 2008 at 6:54 am
If she can get $7 million for a book, great. Better yet is to make sure there’s an editor who can translate the thing into something readable. I can’t fathom reading a book by someone who speaks as poorly as this woman.
November 18th, 2008 at 7:43 am
GOOD GOSH folks. I can’t believe what some of you are saying. Is Sarah Palin puts out a book so be it. Like Joel said, “if someone wants to buy it they will, and if they don’t they won’t.” You liberals are always preaching tolerance, but I don’t see one iota of tolerance for anyone who you don’t agree with. IT’S ONLY A BOOK!!!!!
How can you be fully imformed if you only read books that spout your views and ignore anything that doesn’t conform to those views?
And Timesflyin46, I worry about by kids and grandkids very much also. It worries me what kind of country they might have to grow up in.
Like Trees said, It is good to know that there are still people out there who still have their sanity.
November 18th, 2008 at 7:58 am
The value of a good or service is determined by what someone is willing to pay for it. If someone wants to give Sarah Palin a $7 million book advance, let them. If the book turns out to be unsellable and thus of no value, that is the risk the publisher takes.
A cancer researcher may earn $150,000/yr., a baseball start $25 million a year. It is what people are willing to pay.
November 18th, 2008 at 8:29 am
Well said Robert.
November 18th, 2008 at 8:40 am
Robert, what you’ve perfectly described is an element of capitalism…..which is what Alan & his friends rail against…stop bringing it up or you’re going to get thrown out of the club…..
November 18th, 2008 at 8:53 am
Left wing thinkers look at it this way. The value of a good or service is determined by what the liberals think everone else should pay for that good or service. They think paying Sarah Palin $7 million advance for her book is evil but nary a peep when Hillary gets an $8 million advance for her book. By the way, what did Nancy Pelosi get for her book. It sold what, one, two dozen copies?
November 18th, 2008 at 9:03 am
Yeah, it is a ‘capitalism’ thing. However, whoever it is that thinks a book by Sarah about Sarah is worth $7 mil probably is someone who just lost their job on Wall Street. Dumb is as dumb does…Sarah’s followers won’t buy the book because to most of them reading is a waste of time, they’d rather go to a gun show.
November 18th, 2008 at 9:08 am
I think Willy is being generous about the number of books Pelosi sold……
November 18th, 2008 at 9:52 am
Budda, Are you that ignorant? I rather enjoy reading and don’t really care for guns. Are you upset because nobody will give you $7 mil for your enlightening thoughts?
November 18th, 2008 at 10:11 am
and BTW, it’s “stupid is as stupid does”….which I think enlightens us even more to what level Budda thinks on…..
November 18th, 2008 at 10:16 am
Is it going to be a children’s book? Cause there “ain’t” much going on between those ears.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:16 am
Gayle: Upset? Me? Hardley. I believe most neo-cons are beside themselves since the election and still can’t think straight. Didn’t you see the clips of Sarah’s ‘fans’ on TV ? Goobers yelling hateful things and speaking in right-wing talking points that were and still are false? Somebody giving me $7 mil for my enlightening thoughts would be just as foolish as giving Sarah $7 mil for hers. And who do you think you’re kidding? I saw you at the gun and knife show at the fair grounds last Sat.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:27 am
It will probably be dumbed down enough for you to understand…..we’ll have her write real slow, using small words…..
November 18th, 2008 at 10:28 am
@WILLY: They think paying Sarah Palin $7 million advance for her book is evil
Exactly who thinks it is “evil”?
Colmes certainly made no such assertion.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:35 am
we’ll have her write real slow, using small words…..
I don’t think she has the choice really. Kinda limited by her own education isn’t she?
November 18th, 2008 at 10:36 am
I care only enough about her book to say I don’t care about it.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:40 am
Yeah Jim, she’s certainly not a deep thinking, I know better than you, elite liberal from Harvard…..but I’m not sure she uses words like “kinda”…..
November 18th, 2008 at 10:44 am
Alright…calling all libs…let’s break this open….tell me SPECIFICALLY why she’s so dumb, stupid, whatever word you want to use……and beware, I’m well versed on Joe “Plugs” Biden, so don’t give me soundbites….
November 18th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Yup Budda, you caught me. He he he….ain’t nothin better than a good ole gun show!!
November 18th, 2008 at 10:55 am
I couldn’t stick around at the gun show long though, I had to go to the truck pulls.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:57 am
….tell me SPECIFICALLY why she’s so dumb, stupid, whatever word you want to use.
There are plenty of clues. 5 schools in 6 years to get your degree is a major red flag. Katie Couric’s interview another. Her debate performance was embarassing. I prefer my leaders to have triple digit i.q.’s.
November 18th, 2008 at 11:11 am
“…not a deep thinking, I know better than you, elite liberal from Harvard…”
And if she doesn’t know better than you and me then she has no business being anywhere near the white house.
You don’t give the presidency of the United States to some yokel from the hinterlands. You don’t give it to someone with a second class mind, who’s been educated at third-rate schools. You give it someone who, intellectually, is among the very best we’ve got.
November 18th, 2008 at 11:22 am
SGL…..exactly what is her IQ? Do you know?…No you don’t, it hasn’t been released…don’t despair neither has any of BO’s college records or writings….what in her debate performance, other than prompting Plugs Biden to go off on a tangent of BS stories, was embarassing?
November 18th, 2008 at 11:25 am
Have you not listened to her speak? Like — ever? She uses words like ‘kinda’, ‘ain’t', and other forced Southern colloquialisms in an attempt to sound ‘everyday American’ but she fails at that too. The average American views her as uneducated, and the group that actually uses the slang she forces think she’s fake. Which she is.
Don’t get me started on her speech. I still get in arguments with my wife about the word ‘Youse’ (I’m originally a Southerner and she’s from here in Jersey – she makes fun of me for saying “y’all” even though it’s a perfect contraction of You and All.) I still don’t know what ‘youse’ is supposed to be.
November 18th, 2008 at 11:34 am
Rocky…”i know better than you” is liberal-speak for govt knows better than you how to spend your money, raise your children, take over the health insurance industry, etc…..
As for being the “best we’ve got”, well, Slick Willie is probably genius level…and that worked out well….and forgive me, I’m confused, “yokel…with a second class mind”….were you talking about Carter or Palin….you see, we’ve tried it both ways, and superior intellect or a peanut farmer doesn’t guarantee anything……
November 18th, 2008 at 11:36 am
JFJ…ya’ll got that right. I think ‘youse’ is supposed to be the plural of you, is in ‘you’s, but then again I’m not from Jersey.
November 18th, 2008 at 11:42 am
Jim, I don’t know if it’s fake or not…I’ve spent some time in GA….and the thing about “y’all” is that when someone says it to you, it sounds like they’re talking to more than one person, and they’re not…but you wanna (I did that on purpose)talk about fake, Hillary can adapt a lame accent to anywhere she’s speaking….go back and watch her ‘92 interview on 60 minutes trying to sound southern….or her speech in a black church……it’ll make you hurl
November 18th, 2008 at 11:43 am
I’ve seen Hilary talk – with an Arkansas accent. Kinda makes sense, y’know – living in Arkansas for as long as she did.
I know for a fact that affectations in speech return under a few conditions. One being around others that may have similar speech patterns, two being emotionally charged (I slip into a Arkansas-Tennessee drawl when I’m angry), three being surprised. And some words never lose their accent. I still say ‘yew’ rather than ‘you’ for example.
And in Georgia, well let’s say I’ve never experienced the phenomenon you speak of. Singular is You, plural is Y’All.
November 18th, 2008 at 11:53 am
I be a big fan of Palin. I will by her book so long as there ain’t too many words in it. Lots of pictures I hope caz she shure is purty. Thats why I voted for her and that old guy. I like when she winked at me.

So SGL….you didn’t have any answers on Palin….had enough?
November 18th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Shure thing! Well, gotsta get back to my CEO job at this invesment bank. Gotta manage all this bailout money.
November 18th, 2008 at 12:13 pm

Posted by your buddy Dan from NH
Apparently you haven’t heard any of her interviews.
Oh wait! I forgot! Asking Palin what the vice president’s job entails is a “trick question” according to the right wing.
I’d rather have a guy with brains and hairplugs running the country than an empty-headed Miss America.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
So SGL….you didn’t have any answers on Palin….had enough?
Sorry not to get back to you. Had to do some work. The embarassing thing for me in the SP-JB debate was the ridiculous winking and the ” I may not answer the way the moderator wants me to.”
November 18th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
What I just witnessed from several of the liberals comments here has just proven the fact that libs are mostly elitists who look down their noses at anybody that comes from any rural spot in America. If you don’t have an Ivy League education or live in the enlightened world view of theirs you are some backwoods hick who can’t read or write. They make fun of you because you might have a different way of talking.
Todays definition of a liberal is elitists, enlightened, I know better than you snob.
You ought to try listening to yourselves sometime. Or maybe you do because you really like hearing yourselves talk.
November 18th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
SGL…..that can’t be the best you’ve got….what she said was at least honest….can you think of any of these candidates who answer the question that was actually asked? Especially the Prez-select? C’mon, I expect more from you….
TDRO…technically, she got it right….it simply one of those guidlines that has rarely, if ever, been enacted….Plugs Plagerizer got it exactly backwards…but again, that’s just Plugs being Plugs….he gets a total pass…
Willy….I tried to get these libs to engage in some discussion of substance, but they all ran away (except SGL), overcome by burdonsome facts & reality….
November 18th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
She’s still a hottie. And a sweetheart.
November 18th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Hey Dan from NH,
Typical liberals. You have to have substance to discuss substance. Have you noticed that when discuss the facts with liberals they get angry and then they start all the name calling. Just look at the many comments from them. A lot of them are hate filled. Of course that is when you know you are winning a debate with them.
November 18th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
Let me revise my remarks. Not all liberals are that way, but there sure are an awful lot of them like that.
November 18th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
Willy,
No, you got it wrong. It’s the conservatives that consider a person an elitist based on being intelligent and well-educated. You know…like they called Obama an elitist???? The man basically came from nothing, but because he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law School and is intelligent – somehow that makes him an elitist! Since when did being well educated and intelligent equate to elitism?
I agree, some people call Republicans “dumb” just to be nasty – but I’m sorry some of them aren’t the brightest crayon in the box if you know what I mean! For example: Bush – who doesn’t even have command of the English language AND who bombed the wrong country – OR – McCain – who graduated in the bottom 10% of his class AND apparently considers the NATO country of Spain a threat – OR – my all time favorite Palin – who had to attend 5 colleges to obtain a Bachelor’s degree AND apparently thinks that dinosaurs and humans roamed the Earth together at one time. There is so much stuff to say about Palin – it would take all night to list everything! But I’m sick of this “liberal media bias” BS conservatives always claim. I don’t exactly consider Katie Couric some “roll you over the coals” type of investigative journalist, nor do I consider “what publications do you read” a big GOTCHA question. This woman was down-right embarrassing; it was painful to watch!
November 18th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
I can’t believe people thought this woman was fit to be in the White House. I personally wanted her nowhere near our nuclear codes!
November 18th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Danielle (nice name, BTW)
Where to start…OK, the elitest label doesn’t come from schooling or intelligence….it comes from libs who think they know how to raise your children, raise your taxes & spend your money on what THEY think are important projects…example: Hillary’s $100 million earmark for a museum @ Woodstock….libs that think govt can take over the entire health care system of the country….and in general, think big govt can do anything better than private industry…
Obama hardly came from nothing…..yes, a womanizing alcoholic father and a hippie mom….but it was grandma who raised him after mommie took off for good, and she had money and sent him to an exclusive high school, also known as “the coke years”, then Occidental & Columbia, on scholarships….
Don’t use the “apparently” thing, it shows your’re not sure what your talking about, and in this case, it’s true….McCain doesn’t “apparently” anything with Spain…he simply said he wasn’t sure when or if he would meet with them anytime soon….big deal, huh?
Sarah Palin took extra time to graduate because, oh my God, she was paying her own damn bill….ughh…unthinkable I know…..and have you ever seen anyone ask “what do you read?”…it was right up there with “if you were a tree, what tree would you be?” (Babs Walters)…..it was a dumb question which annoyed Palin, and rightly so…..but tell me, other than Fox, which national tv network DOESN’T have a liberal slant….name two….
Finally, do you want go over Plugs Biden’s gaffes during the debate?….12 outright mistakes, four that were debatable….my favorite was this fantasy about the U.S. and France joining together to drive Hammas out of southern Lebanon or some such nonsense….nobody, and I mean nobody, knew what the hell he was talking about……and he’s going to get the codes….marvelous
November 18th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
You want to know irony? I got a GED when I was 15 to work and pay rent on a cheap apartment. I never went to college. I grew up in various small towns; Atkins, Russellville, and Conway in Arkansas, Hermitage in Tennessee, Palatka, Bostwick, Ft. McCoy and Ocala in Florida. We moved around a lot because my mother went where the work was as we were poverty level. We stood in lines to get government supplied cheese blocks and peanut butter that you had to constantly stir the oil into – big boxes of powdered milk because we couldn’t afford real milk. Tons of Farina and Oatmeal.
I AM from Rural America, and I have no problem if someone hasn’t had an “Ivy League” education, but they had better damn well know the essentials for the job she’s applying for.
November 19th, 2008 at 12:09 am
it’s really funny reading these blogs with people complaining that Gov. Palin isn’t bright enough because she didn’t answer Katies question on what she reads to get her news or the fact that she uses words like “kinda” saying she doesn’t have a grasp of the english language. It took her five or six years to graduate from college is a bad thing.
If you use the same reasoning then Bush graduated from Yale with a degree and Harvard with a Masters deg. and Obama also graduated from Harvard with a law degree. Can you surmise that both these guys are pretty high on the intelligence scale. But does it make them presidential material. I bet both thses guys have a hard time tying their own shoes without help.
The point I’m trying to make all the high class education doesn’t automatically make you a good leader.
Reagan had the qualities to be a great leader despite graduating from a small midwest college working in hollywood and being married a couple of times.
Nothing in the definition about leadership has an IQ minimum but it does have words like Integrity, dedication and humility which are lacking and have been lacking in the current administration as well as the upcoming one.
November 19th, 2008 at 6:15 am
~ “If you use the same reasoning then Bush graduated from Yale with a degree and Harvard with a Masters deg. and Obama also graduated from Harvard with a law degree. Can you surmise that both these guys are pretty high on the intelligence scale.”
………………………………
But Bush only got there as a legacy,(affirmative action for the rich), and Obama got there in spite of his background.
Bush himself said he was a C student, while Obama excelled.
~ “Reagan had the qualities to be a great leader despite graduating from a small midwest college working in hollywood and being married a couple of times.”
…………………………
That’s a matter of opinion. Many disagree.
The problem with Sarah Palin is not that she didn’t go to a prestigious school or uses words like “kinda” , it’s that she has demonstrated neither knowledge nor interest in the world.
And again, ” Integrity, dedication and humility which are lacking and have been lacking in the current administration as well as the upcoming one”:
ALL a matter of opinion. One could say we have not seen those qualities in our lifetimes, or that the rule by corporatocracy precludes them.
November 19th, 2008 at 7:01 am
Sarha Palin is very educated.Journalist degree and has acually run something like the state of Alaska! Obama has never run anything. She is way more quailfied than Obama will ever be. She has done so much for the state of Alaska and the people love her. I just came back from a Alaska vacation and talk to people there who couldnt say enought good things about her. I will be buying her book in a heart beat. Watch your wallets you Obama supporters. He will take your money so fast you wont even know what happened! Watch your pay check stub for tax increases. Freedom of speech, and union secret ballots are just another thing they will take away from you, just watch!!!
November 19th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Bush already took my money and gave it to his millionaire and billionaire friends, AND spread a lot of horror and carnage in the process.
As for
“Sarha Palin is very educated.Journalist degree and has acually run something like the state of Alaska! Obama has never run anything. She is way more quailfied than Obama will ever be.”
I’ve seen no evidence of that.
November 19th, 2008 at 9:10 am
Well, OLDLEFTY, You don’t want to see it, that is the problem. IF you think Bush already took your money, you have another thing coming. Wait till you see how much Obama will take from you!! You have no Idea what you are talking about. All the horror will be coming out of the Obama administration. Where is the change he said will come to washington? Could it be the old same Clinton Administration he is putting back in Washington? Sure, that is the change we need!
November 19th, 2008 at 9:29 am
chicagogirl,
My side thinks that YOU are the ones who can’t see it.
What makes you think that YOU know what you are talking about?
It surely is not elitism, is it?
It was not a Democratic administration who just lost 9 billion in Iraq, and turned over countless more in no bid contracts to cronies at cost plus, went through the surplus, and brought about record deficits.
Actually, most people remember the Clinton years as a time of prosperity.
If he chose people you never heard of you would accuse him not picking those with experience.
Choosing those who opposed him, already IS change from Bush, who chose only those engaging in group think.
November 19th, 2008 at 10:04 am
I’ll take the Clintonites over the Bushies any day. Karl Rove & Co.: Buh Bye and don’t let the door hit your a** on the way out.
November 19th, 2008 at 10:15 am
I don’t mind Obama “taking our money from us” as long as he gives it back. Didn’t see much return on my investement in 8 years of Bush, except a bill for MORE money needing to be collected to pay for his failed presidency.
November 19th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
You, Alan, have no curiosity for a book by Sarah Palin. That is the same amount I have for any book by you. Enjoy your day and keep writing…….
November 19th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
I am re-reading Asimov’s Foundation series (actually, I’m mega nerd – I started with the Robots books first). I have read almost all of them before, but I had read them in order of publication, rather than by time line, and I have had plenty of 10+ hour flights lately.
Anyway, I gots no fear o reading. But I can’t imagine reading a book ‘written’ by a politician (and yea, that includes Obama), and reading a book ‘written’ by a politician who doesn’t even READ books?
Sheesh. More power to her if she can get 7 million, but who on earth really wants to read something like that when there are actual good books being written, great books waiting to be re-read, and classics that you just have never had the time to get around to.
If I had nothing but her book and a cereal box on my breakfast table, I’d be studying what exactly goes into Raisin Bran (other than the Raisins and the Bran, that is).
The cereal box would win out over a Raisin Bran vs. Obama book smackdown as well, by the way.
