Congresswoman Michele Bachmann Denies Saying What She Said
The Minnesota Republican infamously said that she was concerned that Barack Obama has anti-American views and went on to proclaim that she’d love to see an investigation of which memebers of Congress are anti-American or pro-American.
“…the news media should do a penetrating expose and take a look…take a great look at the views of the people in Congress find out are they pro-America or anti-America. I think people would love to see an expose like that.”
Last night I asked Bachmann about those comments and she denied making them. John at Crooks and Liars has it.
Colmes: You said you were concerned during the campaign that Obama had anti American views and you said the news media should do a penetrating expose and take a look at the people and find out, are they pro-America or anti-America.
Bachmann: Actually that’s not what I said. It’s an urban legend that was created and that’s not what I said.
Colmes: I have the tape at my website Alan.com.
Bachmann: What I called on Alan was for the mainstream media to do their job. They failed to vet Barack Obama the way they had John McCain. That’s what I was called for.
Colmes: ‘I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out, are they pro-America or anti-America.’ Do you really want…
Bachmann: What I said was that I’m not qualified to say whether members views are pro or anti American. That’s not my job to do.

Oy, the prevarication! She’s a real slime-job.
November 19th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Shocking that the two comments mentioning Alan complain about him not having a tape set up. It might be a legitimate point, but, of course, it’s too much to ask that more praise than belittlement given.
November 19th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
*be given.
November 19th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Once again, Alan, you twist these things to your way of thinking. I just watched the interview and that idiot was grilling her over who she thought in Congress was anti-American and she stated maybe that’s what the media ought to look in to. That was not the point of her conversation. She was discussing her concern of Obamas affiliations with Ayers, Wright, etc… and their anti-American tendencies. The media has been very lenient on Obama and his associations and whether or not to question some of these things. So when idiot starts pressuring her to name how many she thought in Congress were anti-American, she just said, maybe the media should look in that! It’s a legitimate comment. How many of our elected officials align themselves with these radicals and terrorists? But you and the majority of the media will not use any common sense and listen to legitimate concerns and worries of millions of us. You just start screaming about how biased we are! Pot calling the kettle black isn’t it? I think you lied about her comments. She didn’t!
November 19th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Tammy
They always ignore the fact that many people have been concerned about the anti-American tendencies of the right wing preachers, G Gordon Liddy, Oliver North and Cheney, and Halliburton, AND Michelle Bachmann.
So What?
November 19th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
The tape is from another network, so there are permission issues.
November 19th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
Oldlefty,
I didn’t post on here for you to put some more spin on things! Maybe you have a point to some extent. My comment was about the way that Alan puts up in headlines that she lied. After viewing the interview and reading the transcript, I don’t think she did! But then that wouldn’t have made much noise if he didn’t spin it the way he did! I’m a republican and somewhat conservative by nature, but I sure don’t see the point in not listening to other people’s points of view. Why do you think I was even on his website?? I’m smart enough to be able to listen, read and view all sides of the matter and figure out my own opinion. Don’t get on here ready to bash me because mine might differ from yours. I love my country and I appreciate the fact that for the most part we can live together with differing opinions. And if I have a concern about our leaders in Washington and their affiliations with known terrorists and hate filled “men of God” then I think that if the media were acting responsibly and not catering to one side or another, then those concerns could be addressed. I still think Obama owes us all an explanation of how much and how connected he is to some of these people. Not just a spin on the subject! If he were truly concerned about bringing us all together, he could/should do that! It might help some of us who are at least willing to listen to understand and be more willing to accept his side! Ignoring the matter will never make it go away!
November 19th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
I watched HARDBALL that night. There are 2 things, she is a liar or she had a blackout being drunk. Just another crazy right wing buffoon.
November 19th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Whats the big deal, i’ve been saying he had Ani-American views from the start. Socialism is not what America was founded on.
Now if this was a dem, it would be freedom of speech.
November 19th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
That sounds like a reasonable explanation, Alan, but I choose to believe you are a lackey for the Illuminati. My mind’s made up with delusions, and facts and plausible explanations can’t convince me otherwise. Why did Alan kill Lincoln? Why?!
November 19th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
I loved watching her nose grow as she spoke. She is a wonderful incentive for people to avoid accepting the republicans as bi partisan partners…..they can’t speak the truth….and they are such lousy liars.
The difference between republicans and democrats…..republicans aren’t good at things….and they always get caught..
November 19th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
Facts and plausible explanations are for Communist and America/God haters. I say Alan not only lied, but that he killed Lincoln, too. I’m onto you, Alan Colmeskovich.
November 19th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
I heard she is Tail Gunner Joe’s great granddaughter……..and she tried to look so sober, too…..wowzer.
November 19th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
LOL MFG…..
Doncha just love it when they just can’t admit to stuff that is staring them in the face….LOL
the phrase…”I’m not a crook” seems to come to mind.
Tail Gunner Joe would so proud of little Michele…..
I saw the Hardball episode in question….she said everything that Alan said…and more. But, who cares….she is set up to marginalize herself….Thanks, Sean…you set yourself up for eroding whatever credibility you had left…..and there it goes….someone just flushed it again….
November 19th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
She’s a tail gunner’s great grand daughter? When the hell did his wife give birth to her father? She was born in 1956. My great grandfather was born in 1875, and I’m 28. My GGF was 66 when WW2 started, officially, for the US. And 43, when we entered WW1.
November 19th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Oh, was tail gunner joe a joke? Bit slow, I guess.
November 19th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
mfg? oh, honest mistake, i know, but it’d be funnier if you had said msg instead.
November 19th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Amazing that Bachmann is criticizing Eric Holder for his role in Clinton’s Pardongte when Bachmann has a serious Pardongate herself:

“She was discussing her concern of Obamas affiliations with Ayers, Wright, etc… and their anti-American tendencies.”
They don’t have anti-American tendencies, and it’s distinctly anti-American to claim that they do.
In fact, it’s a smear right out of the commie playbook.
November 19th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Go over to the Dump Bachmann Blog “Bachmann” has been spotted in the urban dictionary similar to “santorum”- ewww definition.
Shocking, or actually gamey, go to either site Dump Bachmann or Urban Dictionary.
November 19th, 2008 at 6:23 pm
TAMMY are you dizzy from all that spinning? You better sit down and put your head between your knees.
Breathe deeply and put down the Kool-aid.
I too saw the original broadcast. She’s absolutely guilty. There is no question that she said what is alleged. She knows it was wrong, and that’s why she’s trying to spin it away. But it’s too late; the stink is already on her and we can all smell it.
November 19th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Tammy must be drinking some of the Republican Kool-aid!!
She said exactly what she said…no ifs and or buts.
Minnesota really doesn’t care for her either as you cAn tell by her paltry win.
She opened her mouth, inserted her foot and now wants to cry WOLF…I THINK NOT!!!!
November 19th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
What is up with Minnesota? They are proving to be as obtuse as Texans. Why do they feel the need to elect racist, anti-democracy, reactionary evangelicals? It must be all the stupid in the air. Go Michele Bachmann, just keep saying the tape of you accusing Obama of being anti-American is an urban legend. Palin - Bachmann in 2012.
November 19th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
I too saw the “Hardball” episode in question and there is no doubt in my mind what Rep. Bachman said during that segment. The woman is a liar and I’m glad that Mr. Colmes called her out on this.
She has been caught time and time again at revisionism when it comes to what actually comes out of her own mouth. If you want additional examples of this, just peruse the following blog:
http://dumpbachmann.blogspot.com/
November 19th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Tammy,
How can you possibly say that she didn’t say what she is being accused of saying? I’ll be the first one to admit that both sides are guilty of their share of “spinning” - but this is a no-brainer. There is simply no way to get around or hide what she said.
No offense and I’m totally joking here; but I wish you’d have been my mom growing up - I could have gotten away with so much stuff!
November 19th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Okay, okay. Let me spell it out for you! I guess she did say that, but you guys are all taking it out of context here! Geez, where has common sense gone? When the guy was trying to spin away from her statements that Obama has associated with anti-American types, he kept badgering her about how many she thought were in Congress so she finally said, I don’t know, maybe the media should check into it! He was trying to pin her down to naming names and she wasnt falling into it. I can’t believe all of you who wouldn’t have the least bit of concern about ANY of our elected officials who might have associated with terrorists and people with anti-American sentiments. And Rocky, you are screwed in the head if you don’t believe Ayers and company are anti-American. Bombing police stations, judges homes, the pentagon and screaming G.D. America are anti-American. And Danielle, I’m not gullible at all! My kids know exactly what they can and can’t get away with. And Im proud to say I have raised them to be tolerant of others if possible, not be prejudiced, and to be open to all sides of a matter before forming opinions! Unlike some of you on here, I am at least open and willing to hear your side of it before jumping on the bandwagon of “political correctness”. I may not have been drinking the same kool-aid as you guys, but I am as an American entitled to my opinions without your criticisms just like you expect me to be of yours!
November 20th, 2008 at 12:04 am
It truely amazes me to see how Alan spins things his way. Read the transcript and watched the interveiw. There was no lying or an attempt at deception she was making a point for the media to do their job about Obama american views which are a deep concern for alot of us. Watching Alan interveiw people on H&C in the reason I watch mostly to see him get completely unnerved and embarrassed time and time again. Alan you would be more believeable if you made up your own mind on issues instead of being led down a path blindly.
November 20th, 2008 at 2:15 am
Dear Poor Tammy,
Criticizing the government is one of the highest form of patriotism. Even if Rev. Wright does it.
Ayers and Obama weren’t close friends; but how is their aquaintence any worse than McCain, who worked for a CONVICTED FELON, called a CONVICTED FELON one of his best friends, took millions from another CONVICTED FELON and so forth?
November 20th, 2008 at 3:33 am
Even having the transcript read back to her she continued to deny what she said. How can people like that be elected to represent us?
November 20th, 2008 at 3:34 am
Calling what Rev. Wright (I use the term loosely)said or preached an act of Patriotism is a complete joke.
Whether Ayers and Obama were friends or aquaintences doesn’t matter as much as Obama’s refusal to discuss the relationship.
November 20th, 2008 at 4:13 am
I find it difficult to believe that with the ACTUAL anti Americamism that emanates from the right, that the accusations of anti Americanism against the left are anything other than shtick.
While Rev Wright blasted the government for opressing the people,(whether you agree or not, is another story), the right wing preachers blast the government for NOT oppressing the people.
Either they don’t REALLY understand “America”, or they are lying in order to trick people into voting against their own interests.
November 20th, 2008 at 6:59 am
Tammy, you are trying to explain Michelle Bachman’s original statement, and as incredulous as that statement was, I’m sure liberals ’spun’ it as best they could. Gee, theres a surprise.
However, this thread is about her interview with Alan where she flat out says she never made the original statement!! He was quoting her verbatim and she claimed it was an Urban Legend.
Maybe John McCain could claim that he didn’t realize technology was advanced enough to be able to record ones words and play them back, but surely she knew she was being recorded.
She could have said to Alan something like “Yes, I said that, but I didn’t mean it like everyone is taking it.” Or, “Yes, I said that, but I had just come from a Palin rally and was all frenzied up with hate at the time.” Or she even could have pulled a Hillary and said “Yes, I said that, but I misspoke.”
Anything like that and maybe she could have gained a little bit of her credibility back, instead of blowing away any that was left.
How she got elected in Minnesota is beyond me.
November 20th, 2008 at 10:49 am
the right wing preachers blast the government for NOT oppressing the people…Old Lefty
How exactly do they do this?
November 20th, 2008 at 10:56 am
Okay, Hope for Change! I concede! I just chose to interpret what she said differently than Alan and some of the rest of you! My point was, you can put up these headlines “SHE LIED” and there are a lot of people who wouldn’t have ever taken the time to look at it and interpret their own opinion. That is what scares me most about today’s society. Lack of common sense! And I’m not saying Alan is the only one who does it. I see it on both sides every day! I just choose to look at both sides and make my own decisions. I surely wish everybody would do the same. Although I have my concerns, I certainly do wish Obama the best and hope that he does a good job in his Presidency. Like Dennis Miller stated on O’Reilly one night last week, I really hope he does such a good job that I’m begging to vote for him the next time around! But I do have serious concerns about Americans who would purposely terrorize our own country and any of our politicians who sympathized/associated/aligned with them. It’s kind of like a parent worrying who their kids are out running around with! Would you or Obama not be concerned one bit if your kids were “friends with or associated with” people who were known to be involved in criminal activities or less than favorable moral character? If you wouldn’t then I seriously feel sorry for you and your kids!! Anyway, I tried coming on here to be reasonable and see the other side of the story. I formed my opinion and thats all I wanted to do! Good luck to us all and God Bless America!
November 20th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Instead of investigating other members of Congress Bachmann, herself, should be investigated about why she was fired from her position as federal tax litigation attorney.
Hint: She revealed confidential information.
It would also be worthwhile to dig into her real involvement with New Heights Charter School in Minnesota. This is not hearsay. I worked with Bachmann on the board of New Heights and as a teacher and administrator at the school. It was while she was a board member that she revealed she was fired from the Tax Department and the reason why.
November 20th, 2008 at 12:39 pm

the right wing preachers blast the government for NOT oppressing the people…Old Lefty
How exactly do they do this?
Posted by T. Mason
……………………………………….
From Frank Schaeffer:
“When Senator Obama’s preacher thundered about racism and injustice Obama suffered smear-by-association. But when my late father — Religious Right leader Francis Schaeffer — denounced America and even called for the violent overthrow of the US government, he was invited to lunch with presidents Ford, Reagan and Bush, Sr.
Every Sunday thousands of right wing white preachers (following in my father’s footsteps) rail against America’s sins from tens of thousands of pulpits. They tell us that America is complicit in the “murder of the unborn,” has become “Sodom” by coddling gays, and that our public schools are sinful places full of evolutionists and sex educators hell-bent on corrupting children. They say, as my dad often did, that we are, “under the judgment of God.” They call America evil and warn of immanent destruction. By comparison Obama’s minister’s shouted “controversial” comments were mild.
Then you have Falwell and Robertson blaming America for 9/11
Falwell said, “The ACLU has got to take a lot of blame for this. And I know I’ll hear from them for this, but throwing God…successfully with the help of the federal court system…throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools, the abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked and when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad…I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way, all of them who try to secularize America…I point the thing in their face and say you helped this happen.”
Robertson said, “I totally concur, and the problem is we’ve adopted that agenda at the highest levels of our government, and so we’re responsible as a free society for what the top people do, and the top people, of course, is the court system.”
What are we to make of this but calling upon the government to impose THEIR version of THEIR religion on the people?
Seems a lot more anti American than anything Rev Wright ever said.
November 20th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
To assume that people you work with are Anti-American, seems a bit Anti-American. What happened to tolerance, liberty, blah, blah, blah? My guess is that Ms. Bachmann claims anyone who has different views then her, i.e., liberal, is Anti-American. She very much said the things that she says are Urban Legend, and that, makes her a liar.
And Tammy, how was Ms. Bachmann’s words being taken out of context? The woman said the media should do a penetrating expose to find out who is and who isn’t Anti-American…it’s kind of like saying I’m kinda pregnant, isn’t it?
November 20th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Tammy, what do you make of G Gordon Liddy? Talk about an outright terrorist on YOUR side!
November 20th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
Hi Lefty. Seeing as how I can no more prove the existence of God than you can disprove His existence it would seem that leaves us perched firmly on the slippery slope.
At what point do we draw the line?
There is an extremely strong pull to the left these days, yes?
Would you prefer I stop pulling and allow the slide down the slope to continue?
At what point will we achieve true and unencumbered freedom? When we finally rediscover what we are and finally began acting like them? Like, the animals?
Maybe the answer is the destruction of civilization and a return to the hunter gather status and nomadic existence?
Maybe we should create the church of the blind watchmaker and sacrifice our children on its altar?
Have you ever seen this? It’s just a short animation, no sex. It begs a question.

Thank you for corresponding with me Lefty, I do appreciate hearing your views.
November 20th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
trees are people too!,
Hello, First I must say, I’m in and out a lot today, so as not to appear to be ignoring anyone.
I just believe that government and religion are BOTH magnets for corruption and each will taint the other if allowed to merge.
I do not want to stop people from practicing their religion anymore than I want them to make me practice their’s.
Everyone should push more for what they think is right, while realizing that they just may not have the best idea for the most people.
I think we all agree that many of the most popular TV shows are utter rubbish, yet we don’t want to impose that on the rest of the population.
I think thatfamilies can take care of their own values, and don’t need the government to do it for them.
I must confess, I watched your video, and really didn’t understand it, unless it is about overpopulation.
November 20th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
The proof is on the positive, trees.
You can’t prove a nagative.
It’s up to those that claim there is a god, and that that god is the one they claim as their own to prove it.
Thousands of years have passed and not one iota of proof has been given.
November 20th, 2008 at 2:24 pm

I should have included a warning with the previous post,
the people who promote the views of “the church of euthanasia” are anarchists. they disseminate morally corrosive material. It’s why I won’t post the link.

Michele Bachmann IS fine looking, but I beg to differ when it comes to intelligence. She obviously has nothing upstairs.
November 20th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Да написано неплохо, неужели так бывает. Как интересно, только вчера эту тему перетирала с подругой сидя на кухне с рюмочкой коньяка.
November 21st, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Old,
If you expect conservatives and religous people who are democrats to be tolerant of what we think are loose morals, then you and any other liberal or atheist should be tolerant of what conservatives believe.
There are far more protestants than atheists in this country, and yes, we were founded on protestant faith. I suspect that what you saw in california would be the status quo in most states when it comes to gay marriage, and dare I say abortion if the states and the people were given free range.
