It’s Been A Great 12 Years

ALAN COLMES TO DEPART TOP RATED HANNITY & COLMES

FOX News Channel’s (FNC) Alan Colmes will relinquish his role as co-host of Hannity & Colmes at the end of the year.

In announcing his decision, Colmes said, “I approached Bill Shine (FNC’s Senior Vice President of Programming) earlier this year about wanting to move on after 12 years to develop new and challenging ways to contribute to the growth of the network. Although it’s bittersweet to leave one of the longest marriages on cable news, I’m proud that both Sean (Hannity) and I remained unharmed after sitting side by side, night after night for so many years.”

Colmes will continue to have a presence on FNC as he will serve as a liberal commentator on a variety of FOX News programming, including Foxnews.com’s The Strategy Room and continue hosting his radio program, The Alan Colmes Show on FOX Talk, a division of FOX News Radio. He will also begin developing a weekend program.

Shine said, “We’re very sorry to see Alan reach this decision but we understand his desire to seek other creative challenges in his career. We value his incredible hard work in making Hannity & Colmes the most successful debate program on cable news and we’re going to miss him on the show. Thankfully, he will begin developing a weekend pilot for us.”

FOX News Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Roger Ailes added, “Alan is one of the key reasons why FOX News has been such a remarkable success. We’re sad to see him leave the program but we look forward to his ongoing contributions to the network.”

Hannity & Colmes is the only FNC program which has remained in the same timeslot for 12 years, catapulting to number one in 2003 and never relinquishing the top spot. The second highest-rated program in cable news behind only The O’Reilly Factor, Hannity & Colmes averaged 3.3 million viewers nightly for the Nielsen month of October and is poised to mark 60 consecutive months at number one at the end of November.

Hannity added, “Not only has Alan been a remarkable co-host, he’s been a great friend which is rare in this industry - I’ll genuinely miss sparring with such a skillful debate partner.”

Throughout his 12 year tenure on Hannity & Colmes, Colmes has interviewed numerous key political figures, including: President Elect Barack Obama, Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA), DNC Chairman Howard Dean and former Vice President Al Gore.

FOX News Channel (FNC) is a 24-hour general news service covering breaking news as well as political, entertainment and business news. For nearly seven years, FNC has been the most watched cable news channel in the nation. Owned by News Corp., FNC is available in more than 90 million homes.

  1. Hi Alan:

I’m sorry to hear you’re leaving H&C. I do not agree with you on most issues, but I really enjoy your debates on the show. I often refer to you as the bravest man on television. A liberal in a den of Conservatism. Good luck in the future.

  2. I’m so happy for you that you won’t be on with hannity! You will, in my opinion, be happier, healthier, and more in tune with the rest of us. We are tired of the mean of hannity and wish you the best of everything!

  3. Alan, you deserve a rest. After being the sole representative of sanity on that network, you’ve had enough work for a while.
    Thanks, you are great!!

  4. Alan, sorry to see you go. You’re the only reason I could stomach that show. I hope you’ll give us all the inside dirt after you leave.

  5. Onward and upward, Alan!

For the most part, you were the only reason to watch FAUX News… other than to giggle at the speeches Hannity always gave rather than interviewing a guest.

  6. Man, this sucks, Alan.
I used to switch to Hannity & Colmes during the commercials on “The Rachel Maddow Show”. Now I’m gonna hafta switch to “Larry King Live” during the commercials.

  7. Alan,

Congratulations! I’m sure you are doing this on your own terms. All the best to you. I expect great things from you in the future.

    Peace,

    Chuck

  8. I am sorry to hear you are leaving the Hannity and whoever show.

I would watch occasionally but wanted to reach through the television and either slap Hannity or pull his hair out.

He is so dogmatic that I cannot watch long. Everybody is out of step except Hannity.

Good Luck with your new project.

  9. Alan,
Do you have to use the word Liberal in your website name? After the war on that word your teammate has fought, you’d think you go with the more appropriate progressive. Who can argue with Progress? But they can argue with Liberalism because it sounds like you’re a spendthrift on Economics. Liberal has become the epitomy of the tax and spend myth. Please consider changing it and you’d gain 1 reader.

  10. Best of luck Alan. I look forward to your weekend program, if it comes to fruition. You’ll have a much better opportunity to express yourself there.

  11. I’m sorry to see you leave the show, as well, since I just started actually tuning in. But what will become of Liberaland?

  12. Alan, I’m so sorry to hear you’re leaving Hannity & Colmes. I’m a conservative Republican and don’t usually agree with you but I enjoy your perspective because you always make me think. My best wishes to you.
    God bless…

  13. Liberaland is independent, and is more related to his radio show than to Hannity & Colmes.

  14. Alan

To be honest I always felt your talent was wasted on the show. You are brilliant but the show is shaped has the “Hannity” show. You deserve better. The guests etc are dictated by the right leaning station/Hannity.

And although they gave North Huckabee Hannity separate shows, they never gave a liberal like yourself one.

Yet they say fair and balanced that is a joke.

If they would just admit it I would respect it more.

I realize you are under contract with the station and cannot say so yourself but I am sure you feel the same way

Thanks for being a voice of reason.

  16. Alan, best of luck with your further adventures!

(And now you really could sock Hannity in the nose and it wouldn’t cost you anything! Well except maybe a lawsuit, heh.)

  18. I’m just curious.

Alan, you don’t have triskadekaphobia, do you?

  19. A truly bittersweet moment indeed. While I have LONG said Mr. Colmes’ talents have been wasted playing against ‘Mr. Neo-Nazi,’ his departure will close one of the FEW moments of FOX touching on reality.

Best to you always, you really came into your own and your voice will continue to resonate even throughout the hollows of HANNITY’S HEAD.

  20. I am very much a conservative like shawn is, But i enjoyed listening to your take on the subjects dicussed.
i will miss seeing you across from shawn, i wish you well, and hope that your new career path is all sunshine and roses……………..

  21. Alan,

Don’t leave the show. Think about this for a few days. You are on top of the world with this program. So many people leave a position when they are on top to try something new and then that person is never heard from again. You here it all the time with actors. They stop working on a show to try something new because they think they can carry the enterprise alone and then they sink. NO, you wouldn’t sink, but you are on top and you should milk it along with working on other programming, such as a pilot for the weekend.

Please rethink this decision. Have more vacation added on to your deal, but continue working the television show along with exploring new ideas for the weekend. Hannity is doing it; why can’t you do the same thing?

If you do leave, I hope Bob Beckel takes your place. You add the humor, insight, and great political commentary and questioning that will be missed. Great radio show — at least you’re not leaving that. I’m telling you — rethink this decision and take some time to ponder why you couldn’t keep this position while working on side projects that could eventually escalate into what your dreams envision.

Last example, take Dan Patrick from ESPN, he left ESPN to pursue other things and left saying the same things. He wanted to create something new, try something else, build the Dan Patrick empire. Where is he now, compared to where he was? I’m not the type of guy who would say, Alan this will be you fading into darkness like Patrick, but I will say that I believe you will regret this decision. You have it going on right now, and it won’t last forever, but don’t leave so soon. I could give you more examples, but you will probably never read this anyway. Good luck!

  22. Alan, I’m also one of those who don’t agree with you too frequently but love your passion. You are a kind man and I wish you the very best. I know that whatever you do you will do well. I’m glad you’ll stay on Fox as well because people, who are used to one-sided programming, don’t really understand fair and balanced. You were fair and your show was balanced. Although Sean IS a little feisty…
    All the best to you.

  23. Wow! I watch your show every night (well, not all of it…I mostly fastforward through most of Hannity’s nonsense), so this news really threw me for a loop.

Best of luck to you, Alan! I’m very much looking forward to your new weekend show!

  24. Ok, so I just read Jeff’s post and HE is correct. There are a host of people who left top-rated shows and disappeared from the radar. He’s right. Listen to Jeff. Well though out post and advice you should heed. LISTEN TO JEFF.

  25. Alan,
I am truly sad that you are leaving the show (Hannity and Colmes). I am a conservative/Ronald Reagan Republican, but I always thought you did your homework, debated Sean very well, and you managed to make me laugh quite often. You are also the only person on FOX NEWS to ever e-mail me back!!! I pray you are successful at whatever you decide to do, and that one day you might come over to the good side. :-)

Once again, may God bless you and your family!
    Sincerely,
    Dan Blankenship

  26. Wow, no more H&C. That’s going to be weird; I don’t see anyone replacing you on that program and it being anywhere near as successful. Well I’m glad you’ll still be involved at FNC, and we’ll all just have to wait and see about the new programs. Thanks for the 12 years of broadcast excellence, you are entertaining and clever, and dare I say irreplaceable, I wish you continued success.

  27. I am sorry to see you leaving the show. I tend to disagree with you on several issues. I do agree with some of your positions. You presented an effective counter to Sean. I am a small government, personal responcibility kind of guy. I challenge my beliefs by listening to those with views different than mine. While I think Sean does conservatives a disservice in the way he presents his views, The show could be better with a lot less “Food Fighting” going on. The best information comes from the guests, not from the hosts.

I’d move to Idaho if they weren’t so darn liberal up there. (Just an attempt to get a chuckle.)

    Keep smiling!

  30. Alan, you’ll be missed. You’re the only reason I watch H & C. Good luck in all your future endeavors.

  31. God Bless the path you choose,Alan Colmes.

  32. Alan:

Over the years, I have agreed with very little that you espouse; however, I have grown to like and respect you.

You are a very able advocate for your point of view—one of the best who has ever been on TV. I will miss you on “Hannity & Colmes,” and wish you the very best.

You are a good guy, which is a high compliment in today’s world! :-)

  33. Serious question, not snark! Your statement said that you want to “develop new and challenging ways to contribute to the growth of the network.” Question: Why would you want to contribute to Fox’s growth?

  34. Thank God you are leaving!!! I really couldn’t stand the thought of you being exposed to Hannity day after day - your soul was in mortal peril!

You will have far more success away from the black shadow of the fascist you worked with for 12 years.

Best of luck to you - warn whomever Hannity suckers into replacing you.

  35. I must say that as a conservative …. i will miss you ! You made me think and brought me to consider the view of the other side….as much as i enjoy hannity …it wont be the same without Colmes……. good luck in all that you do….should you get a forum of your own ….please let me know

  36. Please don’t leave H&C, Alan. I will not be able to watch a hour of Hannity’s America…

  37. Was very sorry to hear you’re leaving H&C Alan. But as a conservative - I have also appreciated your presentation of the issues from a liberal (not using in bad term here…lol) perspective.

I have also appreciated your journalistic professionalism and most importantly, your civility and caring for others - even if you disagree with them. Don’t think for a moment we conservatives didn’t recognize that - even in the heat of the arguments.

God Bless Alan and best of luck in your future endeavors - we’ll be watching (even though we may be arguing back at you through the tv..haha) but, we certain do wish the best for you.

  38. If you do leave, I hope Bob Beckel takes your place.

Bob Beckel?? Nah, I would prefer to see Judge Andrew Napolitano, Susan Estrich, or maybe even Mort Kondracke, however none of them can replace Alan.

I’m sitting here thinking he may be irreplaceable.

I dunno, maybe Whoopi Goldberg could do it.

  39. Good luck, Alan. I’m surprised you stayed on the show as long as you did. It was always obvious to me that Hannity was the star. As a Republican, he deals in facts, and all you have are Dem sound bites.

  40. good god, you sat across from that clown for 12 years!

you must have received some sort of unearthly transmission at some point to be able to have endured the talking points that spew forth with such incessant regularity… truly, you must rank up there with the Dalai Lama, my friend.

(let me guess, it was the waking up in the middle of the night screaming “unrepentant terrorist” that finally pushed you over the brink?)

I’ve never visited this site before but 11 years later I must give you props for actually snagging the alan.com domain way back when!

seeing as I watch fox/onion for the car crashes, can’t really say it’s sad that you’re leaving, and taking into account who you will no longer have to work with -
    CON EFFING GRATULATIONS

  41. Alan,
Good luck, you deserve it. Hannity was holding you back. I believe you are one of the great progressive thinkers of our time and I believe you will do great things in the future. Keep up the good fight, Alan.

  42. Alan, I am about as far right as one can be and yet, you were the one reason I would tune into Hannity & Colmes! You demonstrated what I wish conservative talk show hosts would emulate. You were always kind, patient, and reasonable. Now, I’ll have no reason to tune in. I will not spend my precious time watching your former counterpart interrupt and bully guests. God Bless You Alan!

  43. Dear Mr. Colmes;

I just wanted to say that for a liberal, you are the most balanced of any I have ever heard. You don’t just follow the crowd. I have watched you on Hannity and Colmes taking fellow liberals to task for their nonsensical statements. As far as I can see, you love the truth more than anything else, including liberalism. I pray that you will continue your good work as a commentator, on your radio program and anything else you choose to do. God bless you sir.

  46. Sorry, Alan, I can’t say that I will miss you.

  47. Hi ALAN and i hate to see leave the show. I hope the replacement is as good as you ALAN. I will miss you.

  48. Alan,

Whatever your choice in life, may it be with great joy for you and your family .. Good Luck the rest of the way dude .. you deserve it ..

  49. Hannity & Combs just lost one viewer. ME! I cannot stomach that single minded, high school graduate, intellectually challenged Hannity reading his pathetic talking points every night. Anyway, the show is dead. Who is he going to bash now? The Dems have taken over the government and all of his exagerations and lies will have little impact, if they ever did have any impact,

  50. Alan
You were great! I could only watch the show for short periods as Sean would run me off. How you hung for so long, only you know the answer to that. Hope life is good. I’ll keep track to find where you land.

  51. Not to be rude, but why does virtually every moderate and converative have to preface their compliment with a mention of how often they disagree with Alan? I know the intent is to be polite, after the 5th person, maybe a simple “I’ll miss you and I wish you well” will suffice.

  52. but after the 5th person..

Also, I saw Marc Lamont Hill mentioned, and he might be a good choice. I also like Beckel, but he might be too sardonic at times. I don’t know that he has many styles of debate. Andrew Napolitano’s not a liberal, he’s a Constitutionalist, which can be either liberal or conservative. If liberal, I would think he leans more toward so-called classical liberalism. The social aspect of modern liberalism doesn’t seem something he’d be supportive of.

  53. This conservative will miss you! You are a class act (even if you are wrong all the time!). I wish you all the best.

  54. [...] can’t say I blame him, since I find Sean Hannity unbearable. And Colmes was there for twelve! [...]

  55. Mr. Colmes,
You are the only reason that I watch Fox News. You are the sane and reasonable voice on Fox. I have totally enjoyed listening to you and wish you all the best. Hannity can now go unchecked and spew his hatred of everything not Republican/Conservative. I am not sure how you lasted 12 years as most of the guest are far right leaning.

I will still tune in once in a while to listen to Bill and Hannity for a good laugh. Oh, one last thing you can do for me is get Fox to keep Mr. Morris off the airwaves. He is so smug and arrogant, just like Bill and Hannity.

All the best to you and your family.

  56. It’s a good thing to be dehannitized.

  57. Alan,

Sorry to hear that you are moving on. I thought you provided excellent commentary and a quick wit. Good luck with all your future endeavors!

  58. Alan,

As a strong conservative, I always enjoyed you on H&C much more than Hannity. My wife and I appreciate that you try to be fair and equal in your judgement of issues, whereas your partner much more often returns to insults and talking over people when he doesn’t like what he hears. YOU ARE A CLASS ACT, and though I don’t agree with your views, I have a greatest of respect for you. I’d be happy to have you as a dinner guest any time!

    BEST OF LUCK

  59. I knew this was coming!!!! This is your time Alan. The conservatives have “Hannity’s America” But we’re gonna have “Colms Country ” !!!

I’m also really proud of all the conservatives that have been so kind here. I consider myself a liberal, but thanks to H-C I now know I have a lot more in common with my republican brothers than I thought

Continued success in all you do Alan

  60. Alan,

I am a very strong conservative and happened upon the show a few years back. While I didn’t agree with most of your liberal ideas, I will admit that you kept me on my toes and forced me to research and become more involved overall in the political system. I wish you the best in your career moving forward. Although I can’t, in good faith tell you I won’t watch “Hannity & Colmes” now that you’re departing, as Sean and I are on the same page most times!!…I will, however, pray for your future and hope all goes well with you.

  61. Can’t say that I’m not surprised to hear this. H&C is one of the most successful shows on cable news.

Still, I’m glad that you’ll be continuing your radio show as I think that is where you excel anyway. Still, I’ll miss hearing your calm cool and collected voice of reason on the rare occasion that I tune into H&C, or whoever it is that takes your place.

I’m guessing that you’re doing this to have some more free time, but I know that you can do better than just a weekend show Alan. You were one of the driving forces behind cable news’ second highest rated show after all. See if any other networks would be interested in your services! I don’t think that Campbell Brown is going to last long at CNN.

Anyway, I’ll still be a regular listener to your radio show and regular reader of this blog. I wish you luck in whatever it is that you do in the future. Maybe another book?

  62. Any word on what’s going to happen with the 9 PM time slot? Will there be a replacement for Alan or will it just be something like “Hannity’s America” or maybe something new altogether?

  63. Well, the only show that even came close to the “Fair and Balanced” motto is no more.

No need to watch Faux News anymore at all now.

  64. GOOD LUCK ALAN !

I am pleased to hear that you have decided to leave that moron, hate filled, idiot; Hannity. You will do fine with whatever you chose to do for you are a mensch. And the latter is a “order” mightier than any other.

It’s time to let Hannity fail alone and allow his indecency to defeat himself. F him.

  66. Alan :

I am so glad that you are leaving. You are an intelligent and nice guy. You are a responsible and sound person, a decent person. I never understood what you were doing in that show. You have a Great Future alone in any other media.

It would be wonderful to listen to your free speech. Be yourself. You are a cultured person and not a barbarian.

  67. I like the sound of Colmes’ Country, Tim, but someone’s going to say “Combs contry?! wats rong with colms ameruka?? nat good enuff for him? move back to canyduh allen!!”

  68. It didn’t sit right. I kept wondering, “So what’s the REAL story? Why’s Alan leaving the gravy train?”

Take a look! It’s in the top right-hand corner of this blog, under the words “Buy my wife’s book!”

Alan, Alan, Alan. I’m glad your wife’s tome is doing so well, but come on, good man.

You’re going to be a stay-at-home-doggy-daddy to Bonnie? Please! Rethink your priorities!

  69. Alan, I confess, I don’t like your politics or your editorializing point of view. I will say that in this last year you resorted to listing reams of talking points more often than asking sound questions, cutting off conservative and republican guests and attempting to get in the last word somewhat like a school boy. However, in all of that I want to say on a personal note I pray for you and your family to be well and to live your lives in a manner pleasing of the LORD. Although I do not agree with you politically I was disturbed by many of the comments I just read under your ‘hate mail’. I have never been on your site before and visited when I heard on Hanity’s radio program today that you were leaving. Let me also say that I don’t agree with Liberals attacking Conservatives or the reverse. We can disagree and state our opinions with passion but we should not resort to cursing and personal attacks as I read on your hate mail link. Take care.

  70. THANK THE LORD, Alan I have sent so many emails, I’m sure all were ignored, to Hannity about how rude he has been to you over the years. I would get so mad and yell at the TV each time he basically told you to shut up and let him run the show even though it was Hannity and Colmes!!! Not Hannity and watch Hannity treat Holmes like a monkey!! You may have disagreed with many of your guests but at least you were polite and professional, Hannity left me sick to my stomach many nights and also angered me how he tried to portray that all of the military follows his rants with love and affection. Note my email address Mr. Colmes, not all military love him, quite a few feel quite the opposite. So congrats again and I hope you get your own show!!

  71. The Fair and Balanced motto was only an ideal, one which could never be lived upto, especially since truth has no concern for fairness when it comes to facts. Fairness is most important for reasoning, in order to prevent the omission of relevant information when coming to conclusions.

  72. If Alan’s replaced, I think he’s the obvious choice, and I suspect he’s a liberal.

    Indeed, I choose you, Pikachu.

  73. Congrats! Once you get your own program, I can finally bring myself to watch Fox!

  79. Good luck on your future endeavors, Alan.

  80. I’ll be looking forward to your weekend show.

  81. you are much too good to sit next to that twit for as long as you did. Good luck to you.

We already know how boring it is to watch a right wing conservative repeat the same boring mantra over and over to a hand-picked audience of supporters…that’s Mike Huckabee’s role.

  84. It’ll be like a lamer version of O’Reilly without Colmes.

I say we rework the whole thing. Give Hannity his own show (he has enough following that he can be successful, and the smart people of the world can just change the station) And buy Kieth Olberman’s contract from MSNBC. As much as he hates Fox News you can be sure of straight talk from him. Pair him up with O’Reilly in a similar format to H&C, and watch the sparks fly!

  85. Greg has been smoking something good. You have to be under the influence to think Dick Morris actually knows what he’s talking about, he keeps shilling for that vapid, nonsensical book of his, because he knows once Obama gets in office and things work for the better, his book of half-truths and ambiguous predictions won’t sell anymore.

  86. Alan,
I rarely agree with you but there is no question you were the one that made Hannity and Colmes what it is. I doubt that few understand that but it will become all the more obvious once you’re gone. I marveled at how you gave depth and character to the show. I love Sean and definitely more in line with his political leanings but you were the magic. Best of luck. You’ll be missed.

  88. There seems to be some folk that think that loudmouths who repeat the same mantras over and over have somehow “won” the arguement against a quieter thoughtful debater.

In fact the opposite is often true. The likes of Hannity, Morris and (the gods help us) Gingrich may be louder and more umpleasant that Colmes but at the end of their ridiculous rants, a well placed question from Alan usually carries ten times the weight of these blowhards.

The proof is in the pudding. Hannity and his ilk should take a bow for playing a role in showing folks the REAL Republicans…

RIP to the old guard Repulican Party. Perhaps “true” conservatives need to rebrand. That’s what happened up here in Canada, and they’re in power, albeit a minority in our vastly superior parlimentary system…

CHICAGO - President-elect Barack Obama on Monday unveiled his economic team and warned that “the economy is likely to get worse before it gets better.”

“I’ve sought leaders who could offer both sound judgment and fresh thinking, both a depth of experience and a wealth of bold new ideas — and most of all, who share my fundamental belief that we cannot have a thriving Wall Street while Main Street suffers,” Obama told reporters.

As expected, the president-elect named Alan Colmes, the former FOX television personality, as his treasury secretary. Wall Street stocks jumped on Friday when word of Colmes’ appointment began to leak.

Colmes, 29, will team with Lawrence Summers, a treasury secretary under former President Bill Clinton and former Harvard University president, who will take over the National Economic Council.

  90. Good luck to you Alan! I hope you get a television program as a solo host on Fox News. I am sure you are glad you are shedding yourself of Sean Hannity. You are a much more intelligent person than Sean. Hannity and Colmes has become a drag in the last year. I think Hannity becomes more arrogant with each episode. You’ll be better off without him.

  91. Colmes takes the field with the O-Team?

  92. Alan I am happy you are getting away from the egotistical, maniacal dumb ass you have had to sit next to for all these years. I hope they paid you very well for tolerating him. He is the worst interviewer I have ever seen–not just because I disagree with him but on a purely professional level. He would not have made the grade in the broadcast journalism classes I attended in college. I hope the paid you well–you earned whatever it was and more simply for being on the same show. I wish you well.

  95. Alan, I was deeply saddened to hear that you are leaving “Hannity and Colmes”. As a Ronald Reagan/conservative/Christian, I rarely agreed with you, but I appreciated your concise, well thought-out opinions. You made me stop and think about my philosophies opinions, and sometimes I had to admit that you were right, and I was wrong. You were allways civil, gracious and a class act. You are my favourite Liberal, and you will be sorely missed on “H&C”. I am sure you will be successful in whatever you do next, and I will be looking forward to seeing you on FOX, or wherever you will be. May the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob bless you and your family, and may He give you the wisdom of Solomon, and the courage of David, and may He give you wealth, health and peace. God bless you, Alan.

  97. I AM YOUR BIGGEST CONSERATIVE FAN! I CRIED WHEN I HEARD THE SAD NEWS OF YOUR DEPARTURE! I FEEL THE SAME WAY AS THE REST OF YOUR CONSERVATIVE FANS FEEL. YOU MADE US THINK, SIR! THIS IS A TRAGIC LOSS IN MY EYES. IT IS AS IF A DEAR FRIEND HAD PASSED AWAY!

    MAYA GOD BLESS YOU, SIR!

  98. I am EXCITED that you are leaving that H&C. I can’t wait until your new show hits the Air. I hope that you will have STRONG PROGRESSIVES on the show. H&C very rarely had STRONG PROGRESSIVES on the show other than your self.

  99. Alan, I am very sad to hear that you are leaving Hannity and Colmes. I am a conservative and while I don’t always agree with you, I have the utmost respect for you. Wishing you nothing but success in your next venture.

  100. Alan, this conservative wishes to thank you for a wonderful twelve years. I look forward to the weekend show you have in development as I have always respected you and your contributions to “Hannity & Colmes”. Although I rarely agreed with your views, I appreciate your views which are always presented with honesty and with clarity. You weren’t just offering “talking points”. Both you and Hannity are excellent co-anchors, but I anticipate nothing but success in your future ’solo’ endeavors. I think we all agree with Roger Ailes’ comment, “Alan is one of the key reasons why FOX News has been such a remarkable success.”

  101. Good luck, Alan. You are a class act and a stellar representative of the progressive side. You’ll be missed immensely as the voice of reason on H&C, but I have no doubt this move will be good for your soul. Can’t wait to see what you do next!

  102. Alan, I’m extremely happy you are leaving H&C. I could hardly stand to watch H&C and therefore I didn’t watch it much anymore. Now I can go back and watch and know I’m getting fair and balanced reporting. You are way to far left of the far left for the good of America. Good luck to Sean and ALL of his many listeners both on radio and TV. He is the best!

  103. I’m thrilled you are away from Mr.Venom. I’m sure that your blood pressure will thank you, not to mention your nervous system!

I only wish you would get out of FOX. I refuse to turn them on to even give them so much as a rating up tick.

  105. Alan, I’m glad to hear you’re striking out on your own. I can’t bring myself to watch Hannity but I listen to your radio show when I can. I may actually have a reason to watch fox once you get your show up and running. Good luck!

  106. Hi Alan,
I’m a social conservative and a regular viewer of H&C, but I’m sorry to hear you’re leaving the program. Even though I disagree with you on many political matters, I found your side of the daily debate to be presented in a firm way but in a friendly spirit.

And I’ll miss your little zingers at Sean at the end of the program….they were funny and most of the time you landed some pretty solid shots.

Best of everything in the future…your a good guy.

  107. Alan,

What Rifle said. My sentiments exactly.

Wish you the best, from a very conservative like myself to you. Will miss you on H&C.

  108. Alan, though I consider myself a conservative, I’m so sorry to see you leave H&C, though not surprised. I’ve watched weeks now you’re having to take a back seat to Sean and wishing more for you. SH has become so mean, egotistical, and holy-than-thou that I just can’t tolerate his ranting attitude anymore. I wish only the best for you. I think Fox may find you were an integral part of keeping that show alive. I know I will no longer watch. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

  109. It’s been a long time coming, Alan. Even though you’ve been a real pita from time to time over the years, I’m sure your work has been no easy task. Best of luck and can’t wait to hear more about your new projects.

  110. Ya know, Alan, after giving some thought….How about going over to MSNBC?
I got a great idea for a show. Pat Buchannon is over there. We team you up with the old bastard and you both interview guests. You do your sane liberal angle, and Pat looses his mind slowly (you know, like that Hannity character)? It could be fun…and besides, the old guy will probably retire soon and you can have your own show…..wowzer
    LOL
Okay Okay…..but, consider the prospect of being the only living liberal on Fox compared to having a support system on another planet.

I think you’re great. In fact, the show is great because of you. Now, let me state for the record, I’m a NY Yankees fan. I also like the RedSox. Without the RedSox the Yankees would be just another team.

I look forward to your new projects and wish you the best of luck. And I hope Hannity doesn’t become just another team.

  112. What’s with all the crap congratulating you - it’s the VIEWERS that can finally rejoice! Many thanks for allowing us to return to watching Hannity and whoever. So long as the whoever doesn’t spend 3/4ths of his time trying to read talking points.

    Yippeeeeeeeee

  113. YEA, Yippeeeeee Now we can watch Hannity again without you shouting down the guests with you reading your prepared speeches!!!!

  114. Hi Alan,

Im going to miss you on hannity and colmes! As fan of the show and a conservative, i loved watching you and sean debate. Good luck in the future!

  115. Congratulations! Thank God you finally came to your senses. I really don’t know how you managed to put up with Hannity’s garbage for the last eight years. I can only come to the conclusion you must have taken a large dose of anti-depressants plus anti-nausea medication before appearing with that fat headed, overly self-opinionated bigot. All I can say if good for you. Welcome to Light side of the Universe Mr. Colmes. Now go take a long, hot shower so you can rid yourself of that Faux News stench.

  116. Say it isn’t so Alan!

You’re the reason I watch that show every night. No matter who they get to replace you; it just won’t be the same.

I do wish you the best of luck and although it’s hard to see you move on, I have to admit you obviously weren’t allowed to display your true potential as a liberal host. Fox News will only allow any liberal to go so far.

    What will happen to Liberaland?

  117. Liberaland will continue to grow.

  118. Alan, I don’t know how you did it for 12 years. Hannity is frequently arrogant, rude, overbearing, insultive and intolerant, while you are generally calm and rational. I won’t be watching Hannity without you on the show. I hope it works out for you at FN.

  119. Goodbye Alan,
I will not miss your badgering and harrassment of most guests on your show! Most often when watching you, your point of view is all that matters, insulting your guests in the process. I always find it incredulous (yet un-ingenious) that your main method of ‘fair-and-balanced’ questioning is to throw so much falsehoods at your guest that most do not know where to start (answering your gibberish, etc.)! You are NOT A JOURNALIST worthy of your profession, in my eyes. You could take notes from your co-host on how to RESPECTFULLY treat those you interview.

  120. Best of luck to you Alan!!! How you survived, and bit your tongue, over the past 12 years next to that idiot Hannity, is beyond me. You are one intelligent class act and I wish you well. Your show on Faux News will surely be the ONLY one I watch on that “fair and balanced” network and I will be sure to check my local listings.

  121. Mr. Colmes,
I have a great deal of respect for you and I don’t know how you managed to put up with Hannity for 12 years! Even as I agreed with the message Hannity conveyed, I found him to be rude, aggressive and a bore which at times made me want to turn into a democrat and finally did turn me into an independent!

I watched the show for several years, but finally stopped watching, not being able to take Hannity any longer. I found you too, perhaps out of survival, beginning to adopt some of his tactics which may have weighed into your decision to remove yourself from that cancer.

You were always a gentleman, showing civility to your guests and your intelligence certainly outweighed any sarcasm and spinning of facts. It began to wan, however in the last of my viewing.

Although the Left is not generally in my political persuasion, I look forward to watching your debut in your new pilot as I hold you in high esteem. Fox News needs you to balance the philosophy of the station and I certainly look forward to your point of view!

I look forward to you future success!

  122. Alan your a Great American and I wish you all the best in your future duties at Fox News, your radio show etc. We Conseratives will miss you the show will not be the same. While I never agreed with your liberal views I do respect and consider you a great television personality. All the best to you Happy Thanksgiving.

    Steve
From Liberal San Francisco ( ouch)

  123. Mr Colmes pay no attention to these neo-cons behind the curtain. Im sure you feel you have ridden the gravy train long enough you dont need Mr Hannity you can make it on your own. I wish you all the best you brought balance to Fox News!

  124. Alam,
Best of luck to you in the future. Even though I have disagreed with you on most issues, I have enjoyed watching you and Hannity debate one another over the years. It was evident that you had carefully thought through the issues and sincerely believed what you were saying.
It is a tribute to you and Sean Hannity that two people who are at opposite ends of the political spectrum can sit next to each other for 12 years and debate each other and not only respect each other but actually appear to be friends.

  125. I have to send a second post. I wanted to wish Alan all the best and congratulate him out of respect for him, yet I read so many negative comments above about Sean Hannity. As a Conserative Republician I do not understand how we accept things like loosing the election and that Alan is leaving and that we will miss him yet Liberals always have something negative to say. Why is that? Liberals should be happy yet they continue to whine. I honestly do not understand this and if a Liberal wants to comment please be kind I was.

  126. I would hardly say Mr. Colmes has been riding any gravy train. I would equate his stint with Hannity to a long term in Gitmo.

  127. SteveBP, just so you know, I am a staunch conservative. But Hannity is just too much, even for me.

  128. Even though all of you liberals are wackos, I did enjoy watching you and Hannity on the show sparring back and forth. Good luck in everything you do..

  130. There really is a Santa Claus!! I have been praying for years that you would leave and now I will have a great Holiday Season knowing you will be gone. You were always so smart ass and interrupting everyone that it raised my blood pressure. Sean is so bright and reasonable that he made you look like an idiot. All you want to do is yell and monopolize the show. I pray they keep Beckel and Hill off the program as I will be forced to quit watching. They are as bad as you were. I wish you well wherever you go as long as it isn’t still on FOX!!!Posted by Redhead Nov. 25th.

  131. Alan!!!!!!!!!!!! You are the only liberal I like. You are a true believer and really have the best intentions. Best wishes to you on your new gigs.

  132. How many Sarah Palin press conferences does it take to kill a turkey?

  133. Alan,

I must confess I rarely agree with you, but I have enjoyed your sparring with Sean Hannity for years. I do appreciate your eloquence and the ability to hang in there with him. By the way, he really annoys me when he interrupts but that seems to be his MO.

Best wishes for a great future. Keep up the good work.

Nice jab with SH tonight “My work is done.” Touche!

  134. I believe Jim Hightower should be the new counterpart.

    Hannity & Hightower

A Northeastern conservative and a Texas liberal.

That would bring in the ratings, but FOX does not want a strong liberal like him.

Alan, again, good luck on your new endeavor on Fox News.

  135. yo

  136. Alan good luck and I think you deserve better than having to sit and stomach someone like Sean any longer. Sean Hannity is a spoil bratt that make you want to knock the He** out of him. I hope you much sucess in what ever avenue you take. Let Dick Morris,Karl Rove and the other idots talk about nothing but their own self rightous opinions. I have really enjoyed being a part of Liberaland. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

  137. Dude, PLEASE don’t leave now - the dark days of GWB are finally behind us - and without you there is zero “balance” on the Fox network, which will turn into an Obama-bashing nightmare.

  138. I think I watched you and that Hannity creep twice in my life. At the time I couldn’t understand why such an obvious educated person, as yourself, would be doing a program with someone like Hannity. (Obviously he is just another Limbaugh wannabe…He reminds me of a male Ann Coulter. Oh wait, she reminds me of a male Ann Coulter).

I am glad you will have your own program. You deserve to be off that show. Hannity and others like him are definitely on their way out as the public is wise to what they do.

I will never have to turn FOX TV on again. THANK YOU for all of the insight you have provided when allowed during the few minutes alloted to you on your show. Hope to see much more of you in a new format hopefully on a different station!!!!

However…I am THRILLED that you will no longer be on H&C because I had to turn the sound off everytime you opened your mouth! :)

  146. Good luck buddy.

  147. Alan,

We are really happy for you… You were so very good at debating, but never allowed to fully get your points across due to the obvious almost bullying tactics of Sean Hannity.

We are happy you are moving on. Will await your new program. Good luck!

  148. Well, Alan, good luck, best wishes, Im not a liberal. So, I wanted to come on here and wish you the best. Ive seen Republican Conservative bashing as usual so nasty and pointless, without FACTS FIRST. But, good luck all the same.

  149. Thank God you’ve still got your radio show, Alan! This country would be a much poorer place without it! Appreciate you!

  150. Alan,

Although I will certainly miss you on Hannity & Colmes I do feel your decision to move on makes sense. I feel you have earned the chance to host your own TV Show. .

Best of luck and I look forward to seeing you on The Strategy Room and your upcoming weekend program.Your opinions and persectives have always given FNC credibility and I hope will continue to do so for many years to come.

  151. I wish you the best of luck…now I can stop switching the channel and watch Rachel or whoever else is on the same time the Colmes and Hanity show is on. Just a question is he and Dick Morris really as nutty as they sound or is it just for the ratings? Please say it is for the ratings. It is people like Sean,Dick and Rush who because of their opinions and mis-news cause hate crimes on innocent people. It is people like you that make me proud to be an American…

    Peace

  152. Hi Alan, I was shocked to hear this news as my wife and I always watch H&C on Foxnews. We saw you live at SMC in Dallas a couple years ago and I saw you non-political side pre-show which was a breath of fresh air in my opinion of you. I thought you were one of those hating-everything liberals but you are certainly not. I’m a conservative and disagree with almost everything you say, but I think you are a great person and wish you the best. I can’t think of anyone who can come close to replace you.

  153. Alan, I am very sorry to hear that you are leaving Hannity and Colmes. I enjoy your insight and I feel that you and Hannity truly compliment each other. I hope you reconsider and stay on with Hannity. I have watched Hannity’s America, and although it is very informative, Hannity and Colmes gives a view of two different sides on many important issues that effect our lives. I suppose your mind is made up, otherwise, this would not have been announced. I wish you much success with whatever you decide to do… you will be missed sitting across from Hannity.

  154. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

  155. Alan you absolutely made “Hannity and Colmes” what it is. Sean isn’t a bad guy, but he is a rubber stamp Republican- if the Republicans said the sky was purple he was on board with it. You, on the other hand, supported Democrats in a thoughtful reasoning manner. Without you I don’t think the show will make it.

I would like to see you remain on H&C and add to FOX programming instead of leaving H&C. Couldn’t you host a weekend show and also do H&C? I wonder if you and Sean realize what an important lesson you teach America each night as you both present diametrically opposing views in a rational well thought out manner, and at the end of the night you are both friendly and professional. This is in sharp contrast to the dogma of people like Olberman and Limbaugh who try to demonize those who aren’t in lockstep with their viewpoints. Please reconsider.

  156. It took a lot of self control to sit next to a anti Semite, racist, homophobic, bigot for 12 years.Good Luck. I hope you can get on MSNBC.

  157. You were the one reason I tuned in to Fox. Hannity was always so rude and you ignored his boorishness choosing to focus on the issues. Don’t know how you maintained your cool and classy sytle with his abrasive handling of guests but you always managed to one-up him by respecting your guests and you appeared more intelligent in the process.

  158. Alan, I’ll sure miss you. I am a republican and you are my favorite democrat! You are never angry, vitriolic, or divisive - instead always free, firm, and kind in your beliefs. In fact politics aside, as a person you have that certain something that we all wish we had, that everyone wants to be associated with. You are the kind of guy that is the first anyone would have on their list for any get-together or party. Alan - if all republicans and democrats had your demeanor and disposition our country would be measurably better served. Don’t get me wrong – I like Hannity, but no one will be able to be as sharp, quick, and effective as you.

  159. Just admit it, they fired you. Hannidy did it. But I thought it was your show/ at least we’ll still hear you on the radio.

    Daniel ………. Toronto

  160. Can anyone tell me how a whole nation of people can be so divided with artificial titles between conservatives and liberals, right-wing, and left-wing nonsense?

    I think it’s a mental sickness.

  161. Dear Alan,

I am a Reagan conservative, and have followed Rush and H&C, since they came on the air. By far, you are the best liberal I’ve seen in a head-to-head format with conservatives.

You anger me, However, I have to admit that your questions/comments are fair coming from your side of the fence. They challenge conservatives to continuously re-examine their core values. Iron sharpens iron.

  162. [...] Colmes has announced he’ll be leaving the longest running prime time show on the Fox News Channel. Sean Hannity [...]

  163. I won’t miss you because you were dull and had little to contribute. You and the Libs were constantly talking over the others and when two or more talk at once it comes across as gibberish. With you it was constantly jab, jab, jab. Its one of my oldest peeves about H&C.

You and Ellis Hennican were the two smarmiest libs in media. Oh, and the ferret-faced Michael Kinsley! Unwatchable. And I think you’re about to see there is little love for you on the Left. Maybe you can start up your own show on MSNBC and pal around with Olbermann–he’ll be a buddy I’m sure!

I was going to post this in hate mail but couldn’t see how to do it, so this will do. I must say, your hate mail is the cleanest hate mail I’ve ever seen. I know posters often say they hate you, but Libs hate mail is vastly more chilling, laced with profanity I can barely fathom, and full of gruesome threats, and vulgar imagery–absolutely chilling. I am disappointed in the expressions of hate from the right–I think you elicit that response from conservatives, but it looks ugly on them, as you point out often.

    Best of Luck

  167. Hi Alan,

I am personally delighted you are leaving the show because once you’re gone I’ll no longer have to endure Sean Hannity while waiting for you to speak!

I am a conservative and despite strongly disagreeing with your opinions, I developed a respect for your dignified approach on the show. You gave as good as you got and helped to the success of Hannity & Colmes. It won’t feel the same, but I wish you every success in the future.

  170. Alan,

I am a registered republican, but I do not walk the “Party Line”. I am open to debate with fact based conversations. I stumbled upon your show with Sean a few years back and loved it. Being center-right, in the past I equated all liberal Dems to the likes of Keith Olberman, which was unfair. You have always given the show balance, but the most important aspect of your reporting was your compassion and conviction. You would have facts, not opinions and skewed interpretations. I will miss seeing you on the show and wish you the best in your future pursuits.

  171. Sorry to see you go Alan. I’ve enjoyed you very much. Might not agree with you all the time. But certainly respected your views. Without yelling. See ya….

  172. Hey! Daniel, Alan did not get fire. They missed the real target. You know….., Alan was a collateral damage.

  173. Mr. Colmes, you were the Diamond that kept me coming back to FoxNews. Leaving means I will turn OFF the Hannity/Colmes forever. I’ve watched when your wife was on several days ago, promoting her book. What a refreshing couple. I could see the laughter and humor in both of you. With Obama winning I see that Hannity is relentless in his moron ways to stomp on the Liberals. Hannity supported Bush for 8 yrs and he and your network is part the What America is going through today. They supported a phoney, failed, weak President for sake of ratings and their beliefs. They were Wrong, Fox is WRong and Hannity and Tribe will take the hit in ratings, with his continuous DRUM BEAT. I hope the Best for you.

  174. They should put Mike Malloy up there with Hannity. That would be fun! Mike would destroy the scumbag and Hannity would be a wimpering bundle on the floor.

  175. Alan; Not a fan of yours, but good luck with what you do……I was better that you approached Shine rather than him coming to you…..see what happened to E.D. Hill……

  176. Congratulations, Alan! I know you will do great at whatever new challenges you undertake! You are a truly a gifted person who “knows his stuff”. Our best wishes for you in the future.

  177. Dear Alan,
I am a conservative but despite that I have always enjoyed your show with Sean. Between the two of you I could always get the “real” facts, unlike in the so called main stream media. And in addition to that I am glad to know that the two of you are really friends on and off the air, that is a rare thing these days.
I will surely miss you and I don’t think that anyone can replace you on that show….but I wish you the best of luck in the future.

  178. Alan,
I am so sorry you are leaving the show. Though I am a conservative of the old kind. I have always enjoyed your comments, interviews and sespecially your dry wit. You have bowled me over with some great lines to Hannity,They mostly get ignored but We viewers here them and love them. I will really miss you.It will be hard for Hannity to replace you with a fair & balanced smart man like you. Good luck.I’ll be watching to see where you have another show on Fox Blessings JoAnn

I am a republican who has enjoyed your part on the show. Your leaving it will create a void that will be hard to fill. Hearing your side on views was enlightening and kept a good balance. I understand your wanting to branch out and I wish you well in your personal life and also wish you success on your new adventures

    A Fan,

  180. Horraaay for you! I am so glad you are getting your own show! I am so glad you are leaving Sean Hannity. I stopped looking at Hannity and Colmes because I could no longer take Hannity, now I will be tuning in to your show for sure! The rating for Hannity will probably go down now because most folks watched it because of you. May God Bless you and make you successful in your own endeavors.

  181. Alan,

I am happy you’re able to leave on your own terms. Congrats on a great run! 12 years WOW! As a conservative I will miss your ability to ground Sean and the ground swell that follows him — what I really mean is you ground me too! We all need to have the “balance” you have provided us politically over the past 12 years — without your intellectual insight Hannity, and us “conservatives” would be very narrowly focused, and miss the issues as seen from all walks of life! What we all need to understand as we make life decisions that may affect every American!

Thank you, and again congrats on a job well done!

  182. I am sorry you are leaving Hannity & Colmes. Based on my perspective, I would be labeled a conservative. I have found the hatred of the left toward President Bush counter-protective to progress, and appreciate your hard-hitting yet courteous interview style. I will always appreciate your contribution to the show’s ability to present BOTH sides of passionate issues which allows the viewer a chance to make informed decisions. God bless.

  183. Allen;sorry to see you go because you alone have done more to unite the Republican Party than anyone on t.v.Your opinions are not that of main stream America, but you had the guts to express them, and I have to give you that.Best Wishes from Texas

  184. Soooo sad to see you go Alan, but anywhere away from Sean is a good move. Peace.

  185. wow Im so sorry to see you go Mr. Colmes, you will be missed. While I am not as left leaning as you - Im certainly not as right leaning as Mr. Hannity - and I enjoyed the balance you brought to the show. Best wishes to you in your future successes.

  186. Alan, I do not know nor do i want to know where you are going after December just go. I did not win the lottery but not hearing you interrupt guest and spout your left wing crap is better than winning the lottery. I can now give the Mute button a rest and may you go to NBC or any place where you will never be heard again.

  187. Alan, I wish you would stay. Not my call obviously but I enjoy the back and forth with Sean “Meatbag” Hannity. You will always be the burr in Sean’s shorts even if your not in the studio. You know that right?

  188. I am a republican and a very conservative one at that but i will miss you so very much as part of Hannity and Colmes. You represented the liberal side of each debate with passion and conviction. You are a man of conviction and honesty. You were never so blind as to not see the other sides views either. I cant wait to see what you will be doing on Fox now. I do not agree with you on so many things but i do admire you and wish you much success. I have no doubt that whatever you do will be very interesting.

  193. Alan Colmes did not believe half of what he said on the show, he just played the role of ‘fair and balanced’…..I am a conservative and will not miss him…Hannity is too repetitious and hate how he is holding that ever present pen/pencil in his right hand….S

  194. ALAN IS LEAVING H&c???

    noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
    ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
    ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dont tell them the republican management of foxnews will replace H&C with Hannity’s america??

no no no no no no no no no no no!!!!

  195. Good.Bye

Hannity grinds me. Your lame retorts grind me more.

  196. You are a kind and gentle man.
God bless you in all you do.

  197. Alan,
    Good Luck!!
You are an amazing person and Sean will lose some popularity due to you.

  198. Well done Alan.
Your thoughtful and relevent rebuttles to the right-wing pap spouted by Hannity and guests contributed a lot to the Republican defeat.
Mind you, most FNC viewers would vote Republican if the devil himself was running, but I’m sure that many of the millions of Americans that changed over from the dark side were helped in their descision by you and yours…
    Cheers mate

Hey you can always come up north and work for the CBC!

  199. I’m so glad you left that show - I don’t think anyone should be subjected to Hannity in such close quarters for that long. Looking forward to hearing from you on your own now!

  200. Dear Alan:

It is with deep regret that I find you are leaving Hannity and Colmes. As a moderate Republican, perhaps even a Centrist, I have always enjoyed your reasonable opinions, your wit, and another point of view. You have given me many things to think about over the years. I wish you only the very best in any future endeavors. Hopefully Fox News will find an appropriate venue for your considerable talents.

  201. I have mixed feelings about this as I enjoy so much watching Alan 5 nights a week but as the show is so unfair and so unbalanced I no longer have to now. I have been switching over to Rachel Maddow a lot of the time and I love that show.

I can see that Alan is very happy about this so I’m content with his decision and look forward to seeing him on the weekend.

I’ve read all the above posts and I found it very touching and moving to see such wonderful comments from so many conservative fans of Alan’s. Just lovely. Such a welcome and positive response to all of this when we usually see so much hate mail from the “other” side.

But why should I be surprised when we’re talking about the classiest act in the news media?

Good luck Alan. We love ya.

  202. Goodbye Alan,

I never agree with you, but I wish you well in your future endeavors with FOX.

  203. Good luck in your future ventures Mr Colmes. I’ve enjoyed you and Hannity for many years. You will be missed.

  204. Mr. Colmes,
This is the first time I have written to a national figure. I received the news tonight you are leaving the H & C show. While I have watched your show for many years, I do not recall ever agreeing with you — I am very conservative. However, years ago I watched you defend Sean over what a guest had said. You basicaly told the guest “How dare you speak to my partner that way!”. You showed great class that night and I haven’t forgotten it — a big deal to me and class that I have not seen Sean show you in return.
It takes a lot of guts to leave a good gig — a gig you may have worked your whole life for; I respect that.

  205. .

    Alan,

While I hope I’m not right, I think you’re going to have a hard time defending the “Annointed One” once his administration takes over. I noticed several times where you had difficulty defending Obama’s numerous flip-flops–much like when you defended Bill Clinton even though you knew he was lying and, even worse, allowing his surrogates–hell, even his wife–to flail about, defending him.

You are an admirable man of great conviction who I hope will step out of the political mud and find a few causes to champion, whether it be poverty or issues related to the elderly or…there are many others. You just seem like too nice a guy for the down and dirty game of politics…not only that but I think you could do a lot BETTER for yourself than politics.

Anyhow, best of luck to you!

    .

  206. Alan, We don’t get cable so this doesn’t affect me. But I love your radio show and am really glad you’re continuing it. You’re a class act!

  207. Alan,

Being a conservative, I could not diagree with you more on most issues, but you have grown on me and I will actually miss your humor. You are a good man and good American. God bless you.

  208. Again, all this farewell stuff….

    I’ve hardly even seen H&C…maybe 10 times.
I do however listen the Alan Colmes radio show, and if you’ve never listened…you should, it’s hilarious

    It’s a call-in show…and Hannity’s right-wing views are well represented by his peers that call in…

  209. Alan

I have been watching H&C for a long time. Although, I am a conservative, your viewpoint will be missed. Good luck in all of your endeavors.

  210. Alan I will miss you with the television program and I do look forward to your weekend show and your radio program is a really good show. It is a relief to listen to your radio program compared to listening to some of them on the right wing talk radio programs during the daytime. I hope that you will be happy with your decision and don’t regret it. I look forward to listening to your radio program on sirius radio in the evening and keep up the good work on your radio program and don’t change a thing on it.

  211. Am I the only one who tends toward Larry King at the 9 PM time slot? Don’t get me wrong I love Alan and I love listening to thoughtful conservatives, but I usually prefer an intelligent discussion on a Larry King panel than a shouting match on H&C. Rachel Maddow is too much of a partisan shill for me.

  212. Dear Alan,<
