Expect Conservatives To Use India Tragedy To Laud Bush
They will brag about how we’ve not been attacked on our soil since 9/11 which, by the way, happened on the watch of the current administration. Already, Bill Kristol is writing in the Weekly Standard that torturers and wiretappers deserve the Medal of Freedom.
h/t Think Progress
Bush should consider pardoning-and should at least be vociferously praising-everyone who served in good faith in the war on terror, but whose deeds may now be susceptible to demagogic or politically inspired prosecution by some seeking to score political points…the idea is this: The CIA agents who waterboarded Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and the NSA officials who listened in on phone calls from Pakistan, should not have to worry about legal bills or public defamation. In fact, Bush might want to give some of these public servants the Medal of Freedom at the same time he bestows the honor on Generals Petraeus and Odierno. They deserve it.

Alan, Alan, Alan…I still don’t know how waterboarding is torture. How in the world do you think we should get information out or our captured enemies? What are your suggestions?
Your beliefs are what make many in our country question the patriotism of many liberals who think like you do. With the way you look at war and interrogations today we would have never won WWII. We would have a EU speaking German today and under communism.
How do we ever defeat evil or win wars with your mind set? Our interrogation tactics have saved thousands of lives in Iraq and saved millions of lives during WWII.
Liberals completely baffle me with their beliefs.
November 29th, 2008 at 10:50 am
I wonder about the patriotism of the right. It,s a robot mind , without asking questions. Even some on the right say waterboarding is torture. I was in the NAVY received an honorable discharge and FDR was a liberal that saved millions of lives during WWII. BUSH leading us into IRAQ on lies has cost alot of lives. CONSERVATIVES haved led this country into total bliss. INDIA was not ready for those attacks and the attacks on our country happen while the current prez is in office. What baffles me,is the same old buffoon thinking from the right that their ideals are not working.
November 29th, 2008 at 11:21 am
We did not torture during World War 2. Anyone that says that is trying to rewrite history. The Japs did it to us, we did not do it to them.
Willy is full of it. Period.
November 29th, 2008 at 11:29 am
The WHITE CLOUD COMPANY could not help WILLY for being full of it and all the right wingers as well. It will take alot of toilet paper to clean up the mess and thinking of the right. The sad part, they have no repentance.
November 29th, 2008 at 11:43 am

November 29th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Ya, by rightwing standards the Bataan Death March would be “enhanced fitness training” rather than a crime against humanity.
November 29th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Maybe Willy would like to use the iron maiden as a form of “enhanced interrogation”.
November 29th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Poor Willy…he doesn’t know that it was the US military who stated in trials for previous behavior that water boarding (by Japs) was torture. It was the US which demanded to be held to the standard of Nurenburg trials which we prosecuted stating we know we would be subject to these very laws. He doesn’t know that tortured persons confess anything to stop the torture… whether or not it is true. Poor Willie is a deluded fool. Poor US…ther are so many Willie’s.
November 29th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
I guess there are no libs out there who can answer my question.
I never did like Iron Maidens music.
November 29th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
You’re the one that brought it up, Willy. Prove to us how our so-called interrogation tactics have saved millions of lives in Iraq and millions of lives in WWII. Back when we had sane presidents, the U.S. would adhere to the Geneva convention rules
November 29th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Willy, you stepped in it here. I can’t see any means by which you can prove or even illustrate that interrogation tactics used by Bush & Co are helping save lives rather than helping end them. Until the Iraq War the American standard of treating prisoners was an example for all other nations to follow. Now we are fast approaching a Stallion’s Russia style of ‘guilty until proven innocent’ imprisonment.
I question not only the intelligence but the alliance to this country of someone who makes these Limbaugh / Hannity / O’Reilly points about torture. What kind of country do you want to live in? This country wasn’t made free by people supporting the establishment with blindfold on. Violence is only going to increase while he mistreat prisoners. The CIA & FBI agree that torture doesn’t produce reliable intelligence that the ‘blow-back factor’ outweighs the benefit in every situtation.
November 29th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Wonder what type of interrogation tactics our military used during the first and second world wars? Oh that’s right. Back then most americans didn’t worry about how others “felt” about us. We (every american” actually cared about national security.
We are turning into a “feel good” “please like me or it’ll just break my heart” society.
Maybe the new “citizen militia” that is totally unconstitutional which was proposed on the campaign trail will offer more “humane” tactics of interrogation.
November 29th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
America hasn’t experienced a severe buffalo stampede, either. Apples, oranges, and other non related issues and topics may fill the minds of those who lack substantial conercerns of consequence and relevance.
We are finally safe from elephant rampages down our mainstreets, also…except for a few bad convention goers in Minnesota who can’t believe the GOP convention is over.
For the administration to take credit for saving us from further attack is like saying that we are finally safe from left handed spitwad fanatics. With the repeated demonstration of ineptitude of the present administration, it is shear hapenstance that we haven’t gotten another attack from abroad. Frankly, I believe the nut cases in our own country will be responsible for the next attack. I saw enough of them in line for McCain Palin rallies during the election.
November 29th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
Mason, that “citizen militia” concept is all in your head. Don’t listen to them. It will lead to you dunking yourself in the neighbor’s pool while screaming Allah Akbar!
November 29th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Looks like I got the liberal troops all riled up. He, HE, HE!!!!!
I’m still waiting for your answer to how you would handle interrigation?
November 29th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Robert,
It isn’t all in my head. It crossed his lips and entered the media, but of course not the mainstream. It didn’t even get airplay until days before the election. He did in fact utter those very words. From his lips to God’s ears.
His concept is scary to say the least.
November 29th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
Nice try, Willy….you can’t rile someone. You don’t have that power. Intrrogation without torture is far more reliable. Torture is far too dangerous for our troops…..now,a and in the future. Besides, torture leads to being a criminal…like Bush.
November 29th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
As far as “interrigation”, I gonna subject them to reruns of Palin and McCain interviews with the press….the suckers will be screaming after ten minutes.
November 29th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Where were all of you when the contractors were burned, skinned, pulled behind trucks and hung from bridges in Iraq? We aren’t dealing with “nice” people.
November 29th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Where were you when we were being lied to….?
Mason, torture is torture….the moment that Bush authorized the torture, we Americans became no better than the people who took that action against the contractors. We lost all moral higher ground…and became as bad as the terrorists.
November 29th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Contractors ? How about mercinaries…and their families are now suing Blackwater because of the unfortunate way they were needlessly put in harms way. No, they are not nice people, but how would you react if some foreign entity invaded your neighborhood ?
War is Hell.
November 29th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
FDR was a great President.
He rounded up Japanese in America and held them in internment camps. FDR secretly read US soldiers mail before it arrived in America, to remove any “body counts” and troop locations.
FDR did what he felt he had to- to win that war.
George Washington was a great leader.
He had one of his own men shot because he wanted to desert. Washington used the military to quiet a riot and killed some Americans.
Washington did what he felt needed to be done to form this country.
We can’t really say how history will view President Bush because we do not have all the facts.
Barack Obama was DEAD against the war in Iraq while campaigning. Today, Obama has backed off slightly and may even keeps Gates on in his administration. Why? Because now he is being briefed on the war and has more information.
Should republicans use the India attack as a reminder of things done to keep us safe? Yes.
The simple fact that just before the attack on the Taj, an alert went up in NYC and security was tightened, means we have learned from past mistakes.
If India had this type of intelligence, they may have stopped this attack.
Instead, some of the India police had to use a bus to get to the Taj hotel.
Yes, we need to remind everyone about things that have worked to keep America safe.
November 29th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Ya know, Obama will end the war in Iraq just has he said he would.
We have been just as safe from elephant stampedes….Thanks, Bush, for saving us from elephants……
The “war on terror” is dead on arrival in the new administration. The approach will be to address the root causes of terror and not on the superficial fear mongering the old administration has lived on.
Yeah, we’re safe from elephant stampedes, too.
November 29th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
I believe people need to be aware that Obama will not manage the administration with the same ineptitude that Bush did. Obama will direct the activities that people will accomplish…that includes Gates. Gates will be assigned to withdraw the troops….not to follow the artificially agreed to military pact that the Bush administration had to pass in order to have troops in Iraq after December 31st. January 21st will see Gates beginning the planning of our withdrawl from Iraq.
November 29th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Never heard the Blackwater families complain with the $18,000+ a month paychecks that were rolling in.What did those familes think those men were going to Iraq for?
What is the root cause of terroism ?
November 29th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
Ya know, Obama will end the war in Iraq just has he said he would.
We have been just as safe from elephant stampedes….Thanks, Bush, for saving us from elephants……
Hi Bobby. We are going to be in Iraq longer than you think. Obama will throw the “leave Iraq now” folks under the same bus he threw Ayres and Wright. He ascended to office on their backs, and now that he’s president you will see him reconfigure his politics. We can’t leave Iraq until the government of Iraq has stability and can defend itself, any other position is irresponsible. It will be interesting to see if the left dances to this new tune while he plays his flute, hmmmmmmmmmm???

I hate this spam filter
November 30th, 2008 at 12:25 am
Trees, me fine fellow…
We’ll have to see on that withdrawl matter. Of course, he did stipulate aproximately 16 months for the plan AND it would depend on conditions on the ground as the withdrawl happened. I understand your doubts….there are some who show doubts in other kinds of faith. I have faith in the guy…so, we’ll see….it wouldn’t be the first time I was wrong, but it wouldn’t be the first time I was right, either. LOL
Love ya,man
November 30th, 2008 at 1:04 am
I love ya too, Bobby. Have yourself a fine evening. I’m headed off to dreamland.
God bless you, you’re friend, trees
November 30th, 2008 at 1:25 am
This election cycle the stampede of asses at the ballot box was the prevailing view, give it time Bobby, the GOP will retool and the stampede of elephants that you talk about may become reality, the American public is a fickle mistress, and are concerned mostly with their own pockets, and the pendulum is always swinging………….
November 30th, 2008 at 1:27 am
In all seriousness Robert I pray that Obama can be the man we need to lead this country, we have some very real problems on the immediate horizon, and as a fellow American I am concerned with these problems. Obama was duly elected and he’s got the job for the next four years, I think he’s going to go gray over that time, let’s hope it’s not for nothing. Enjoy what’s left of the weekend skipper, as always your friend trees
November 30th, 2008 at 2:14 am
Robert,
I am still curious. How would you, as President for example, have enemy prisoners interrogated? You keep blasting my views but I fail to see any substantive opposing opinion on how you might go about getting information that would or could save hundreds or even thousands of American soldiers lives.
November 30th, 2008 at 9:51 am
Last time I checked, Alan, we hadn’t been attacked. Amazing, eh?
And, the 9/11 attacks were planned while your boy Clinton was in the White House. What did he do to stop it? Anything?
November 30th, 2008 at 10:22 am
[...] Alan Colmes expects conservatives to laud Bush because we haven’t had an attack on US soil since 9/11…..we haven’t? He’s kept us safe? [...]
November 30th, 2008 at 10:42 am
Willy, torture is ridiculous. I am not an interrogation expert, but I have been interrogated by some folks who train military in case we were captured. The methods that they used were not torture, but before long, many who worked with me were singing the blues because of what the “bad guys” got out of us. Being a Psyc/Soc major in college, I found it fascinating. Questioning is not the same as an expert doing an interrogation. I will not get too specific, but it was good….very good.
I will note that during my college years I was in several groups that were against the war…some you probably know about. After college, I “did some time” in places I considered unhealthy……LOL…and we wore these silly shades of dark green clothes LOL. After all my efforts to avoid the situation, I ended up in places I worked hard for others not to be sent to…LOL
So, Willy, I’ve seen “both sides of that fence”….and I chose peace…now, and forever more. The people who advocate war have not seen the hell that it can provide….or….they are children of mental chaos.

Bryan, have you ever tried it…er…everything but the panties…I think you might like that too much…but, in some cultures, that would be considered gross humiliation……Bryan, even if they stopped with those methods..which they haven’t, don’t, and wouldn’t if Bush were in office past January 20th, unless you have experienced it, don’t be quick to dismiss it.
November 30th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
William Teach, Did any one teach you about the Presidential daily briefing that intel put on bush’s desk that day in August? You won’t say any thing about that will you? It said “Bin laden Determined to attack in this country”.You won’t admit that your guy did NOTHING! The attack happened on your guys watch. Period.
November 30th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
Robert—I will dismiss it without experiencing this kind of torture, just as fast as Kennedy and Pelosi will condemn it without experiencing this kind of torture.
( with the exception of the panties—me and Kennedy may have something in common afterall )
November 30th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Dismiss as you will….the world doesn’t accept the situational ethics and adherence to the moral laws of humanity.
Isolation akin to that reserved for tyrants awaits those who ignore the moral laws of man.

What did Bill Clinton do to prevent another attack 1992 to Jan.2000? So it is the amount of time for both Bush and Clinton without another attack.Does Bill deserve credit too? Or can we say that Bush did not continue whatever Cilnton was doing right?
