Obama’s Team Of Rivals

Current and future Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Secretary of State-designate Hillary Clinton, and National Security Advisor-designate Jim Jones (l-r) round out President-elect Barack Obama’s national security team. Described as two cold war warriors and one political rival, these choices, nevertheless, signal a shift in how foreign poicy and national security will work.
Susan Rice is in line to be UN ambassador and Eric Holder will be nominated as attorney general. Expect Holder to be the most controversial of the choices, as conservatives go after him for Elian Gonzales and Marc Rich.

A great team and a team ithat will be strong and put THE USA in great standing around the world again. JOHN WAYNE and my way has did nothing but brought us death, lies and shame around the world.

Honestly don’t know enough to judge Hillary’s qualifications to be Sec. of State, but a little surprised she would want it. Always figured, after being beaten-out by Obama, that she’d be setting herself up for another run at POTUS in 8 years. Don’t see how this helps that, unless intent is to serve for his first term, then spend a couple years speaking, etc. before announcing. It’s not like she needs to raise her name recognition or anything.
Although, she’ll be 69 (assuming Obama gets 2 terms) maybe figures this was her shot.

Well, it doesn’t look good now for Gen. Clark or Gen. Powell. Too bad, because I think that both of them would bring a lot of expertise and would give compelling arguments for often different approaches.

People have a tendency to equate experience with qualifications. That is okay, but not absolute.
I enjoy watching the radical right struggle to critisize the Obama team (except for Hillary). They still believe that the advisers will be given card blanche to work entirely as they wish. That was part of the “Bush Doctrine” LOL
The buck stops with Obama and the vision and direction starts with Obama…..advisers advise and Obama directs.

The great deceiver of men a.k.a. Bill O’Reilly was rambling on about this Holder pick. He focused on the pardons under Clinton that Holder apparently had some hand in. Can’t claim to have all my facts on it but this right wing site linked up is just BS. The whole interview is just an argument in scemantics. Like Holder is going to say “Oh yeah they went in and brought really big guns to get the little boy just to scare him”
Holder is the only pick from Obama that could raise eyebrows in terms of the moderates but as to the contention of O’Reilly that this is some criminal agent allowed to spread chaos (or whatever he was getting at) is just narrowminded and presumes much.
Keeping Gates is smart and equally so was selecting Hillary as the new Condi.

Rivals are good. It keeps people on their toes so not to let their rival get the upperhand. Complacent people just let things drift along.
That is what happened in the Wall Street mess. I think we should have let all fail and start over. We couldn’t be worse than we are now. A clean cut would have been better. We are just piling mess upon mess now.
