SCOTUS Shoots Down Obama Ineligibility Claim
The Supreme Court has thankfully refused to give credence to a New Jersey man who says Obama is ineligible to be president because he was a British subject at birth.
The court did not comment on its order Monday rejecting the call by Leo Donofrio of East Brunswick, N.J., to intervene in the presidential election. Donofrio says that since Obama had dual nationality at birth – his mother was American and his Kenyan father at the time was a British subject – he cannot possibly be a “natural born citizen,” one of the requirements the Constitution lists for eligibility to be president.
Hopefully this will put to rest these crazy attempts to deny Obama the presidency and allow the country to get on with the business of straightening out years of mismanagement.
Another radical right dream goes back down in the sewer where it started. What a waste of time. The nut case also contended that McCain and another presidential candidate were ineligible.
I can’t believe it actually went up to the Supreme Court….we ought to have a way of charging back to the individual the costs of doing something as ludicrous as this.

I presented Obama’s newspaper birth announcement from 1961 in the Hawaii papers to a CON buddy of mine. Even then he refused to admit that Obama was born in Hawaii. LOL

up until the economic stuff went down a few weeks prior to the election, the “right wing loons” did have a legitimate shot at a win. I know most of y’all think what I just said is looney, but it’s not. Overall I believe Obama won by 4 million (?). Anyways the percentages were not so far apart.
IMO, IF McCain had chosen an economic VP juggernaut candidate (cough* Romney), then we would have had a very close election. Instead he chose Palin. That VP pick baffled me, as I was a firm McCain supporter (me being the middle of the road type of guy), until she showed up.
I ended up voting Ron Paul (hey I’m from Texas, don’t ask why)
BTW I hate the polls. If there is one thing that needs socializing, it is the polls haha.

GET OVER THE 2000 ELECTION!! Which by the way was not stolen. SCOTUS just ended the fiasco that Gore started with his legal team.
Gore only wanted select counties recounted. Counties that leaned heavily democratic. Gore still came up short on the vote count and went to the Florica Supreme Court. After they could not get it right, then it went to the SCOTUS and they, with common sense, ended the circus in Florida.

TDRO, have we been in a recession for the past 20 years? didn’t think so. The economy ebbs and flows and it so happens we are in a downturn right now.
Fact is: raise taxes on businesses less money to create jobs and continue paying their current employees. Raising taxes in this economy on ANYONE will be bad news.

If you raise taxes on the people at the top, they spend less. Did you hear about the jobs in Aspen at the ski lodge? laying people off because the “rich” people the left hates (which makes no sense considering you have so many rich politicians and hollywood elite) don’t have as much money to spend.
We own a business. The last two years were great. This year has been a flop. The bailout hasn’t helped us. If our taxes are raised anymore than they already are, we are gonna lose a lot of money. Will we be able to keep all of our employees? Don’t know.

That is correct. However, the beauty of the free market (oil companies not included) is that the COMPETITON may well have structured their business better and will be able to price more competitively, thus winning market share.
And so on, and so on…
Business thrived all through the ’50’s and 60’s when both parties allowed taxes to be much more progressive.
But the neo-cons, speculators and stock traders found they would rather earn money sat on their ass…
During the most productive time the US has ever know – the 50’s and 60’s, taxes where MUCH higher on the top earners – which led to more equalilty, and thus a better society.

Not every big business runs a sweatshop. Take away the incentives have for working hard and doing better and they will simply get lazy, quit working hard, and quit doing better.

Obama HAS proven where he was born. A valid birth certificate has been produced. Also there are tw seperate birth announcments from the Hawaii newspapers back in 1961 proving Obama’s birth there.

The law says that to be eligible for the presidency you must be born on US soil. Obama was born in Hawaii, which has been US soil since the mid 19th century.
The law doesn’t say anything about dual nationality conferred as a matter of birth.
As for McCain not being qualified by happenstance of birth; he was born on a US military base, which is legally US soil.
SCOTUS made the right choice in not recognizing the merits of this claim from the Wingnut Brigade.
