Hall and Oates Reunite On My Behalf, And, Uh, Thanks?

Responses to this post...

  1. My freshman college dorm mate was obsessed with Hall and Oats. I listened to those two dweebs every freaking day for a semester.

I finally turned him on to some decent music… but what a horrible memory.

    Thanks a lot, Alan.

  2. I like Hall & Oats, but after the “phrase token liberal,” was sung, I changed the channel. There’s just little class these days. But, really, Stewart hasn’t been funny in a while, but then, SNL still manages to stay on. speaking of music, Um Cara, http://betterpropaganda.com/

  3. I don’t see why Jon Stewart would sneer at Alan Colmes as a token liberal. Despite his reputation as being fearless, Stewart has nothing of substance to say politically except that Democrats should be elected. Now that the Democrats are in charge of war-making, torture, and corporate bailouts, he might considering stepping down just as Alan has graciously done. The struggle is over. The Democratic establishment is in power. Long live the liberal reign of war in Afghanistan and Rubinomics.

  4. I saw them sing, and I didn’t take the ‘token liberal’ verse as a swipe at Alan, but rather a swipe at Fox News.

  5. Then you need to pay more attention to the lyrics.

  6. It was hard NOT to pay attention to the lyrics, they had them subtitled at the bottom of the screen.

  7. Yeah, there were some slightly-snotty allusions to Alan being somewhat of a wisp on that show, but “token liberal,” unfortunately, is apt– and is a bad reflection on Fox, not on Alan, in my opinion.

It’s a clear sign that Alan does his job well, in fact, when both liberals (who accuse him of being too soft) and neocons (who accuse him of being a bully) object to him.

Frankly, the funniest thing was Hall’s modified mullet.

It might be updated, but it’s still a mullet!

  8. And the lyrics were an attack on them, both, really. The non douche bag “compliment” isn’t much of one. Alan isn’t the type to want his employer and coworkers belittled. I’m sure he’s friends with many of the people, both on air and off, there. He’s not thinking, “finally, they recognize how cool I am versus the camera man. What a douche bag he is.”

  9. Also, the singing was painful.

  10. I have a new blog post up about this if anyone’s interested.

  11. The worst part of that video is I had to suffer through about 0.2875 seconds of the emaciated blond with venom for blood; but, happily, I can’t recall her name.

  13. “I don’t see why Jon Stewart would sneer at Alan Colmes…”

Actually, Stewart’s no pit bull himself, and I’m getting irritated with his kindergarten sneers directed at Alan.

  14. The phrase “token liberal” is that offensive to you libs? Yeah, I guess there isn’t anything out there more important to discuss!!

You libs need to chill out. This shouldn’t even be a blip on the radar screen.

Would you libs like a little cheese with your whine?

  15. Can I go onto Rush Limbaugh’s site and insult you cons….Oh wait, you have to pay for the privilege.

I guess that’s one way to hide from contention.

  16. Shoot, you can’t even engage in blasphemous liberal discussion on Hannity’s site. The “rules” against posting are too numerous to mention.

  17. I think most of us would only be disappointed if Colmes was nothing more than the carnival freak nearly all the right leaning media people are.

On the other hand, sometimes you find yourself hoping Colmes will lean over and punch the lights out on people like Karl Rove or mAnn Coulter. I suppose you could only do that “once” though.

  18. It was meant to be funny. Some of you are taking it WAY too seriously. Relax!

  19. Twenty bucks says that H&C has three times as many Republicans and conservatives on as guests tonight than liberals.

Anyone want to seriously contest this?

  20. Four conservatives and Republicans will be on tonight.

    1 Democrat. If any.

  21. The song is meant as humor for the greater number of liberals who hate Hannity and think Colmes is a good guy – but maybe one who didn’t get a chance to develop his own voice and really take Hannity down. Unfortunately, the show [or it's perception] [[true or not]] was that it revolved around Hannity more than Colmes. I would love to see Alan have his own show over on FOX because he is smarter than anyone at FOX News. But they won’t do that. Best of luck in your next venture.

  22. just the thought of the ONLY liberal voice on Foxnews leaving H&C isnt enough scary but the thought that the liberal voice will disapear from foxnews is even a scary thought.

With hannity getting his own show, the GOP has taken control of the entire 24/7 foxnews airwaves.

Even though colmes will of course deny it, but reality is that if colmes even gets a weekend show, if the ratings arent really there, his show will disapear as the 1 1/2 hour comedy show on the foxnews network.

Alan has been in broadcasting a long time, I’m sure he would expect his show to be canceled if it doesn’t get ratings.

You are one weird dude, Louie.

  24. lol.

when you’re famous, it’s inevitable that you’ll be ridiculed by someone.

anyway, if you suck so bad why is your radio show ranked so high????

  25. OK, Alan. You and Jon need to go on eachother’s shows and make nice. I can’t have you guys hating each other!

  26. Oh c’mon guys, this was just a joke. I’m sure Alan isn’t offended. I’d be flattered.

  27. As a real (not neo-dash) conservative, I think it’s sad you’re leaving the show. I frankly think sometimes both of you are hard to listen to seriously, but I’ve seen “Hannity’s America”. That guy by himself? Too much. Sorry, you two were fun to watch. Just Hannity, lost a viewer.

  28. I wouldn’t be. If this was like a roast, in that setting, maybe, but the main point of it was to characterize Alan as being a seat filler, but, remember, he’s not a douche. Sure, it’s a joke, but sometimes jokes can be snide and unwarranted.

I’m not saying people should be outraged, but to see this as if it’s flattering, is baffling to me.

  29. I’m a huge Hall and Oates fan AND a huge Alan fan. I was hoping the song and the video montage would be a bit more flattering, but all in all, I thought it was funny.
I don’t think Alan should be viewed as a passive wimp, as they portrayed him. I think he just has too much class to come down to the levels of Sean, Ann Coulter, and such.
And just for the record, this wasn’t Hall and Oates “reuniting”. They’re still a duo and stil have thousands and thousands of loyal fans.

  30. Yeah, because Colmes is classy and rolls with the punches he gets attacked by Stewart?

Hey, Jon, could you handle hosting an actual debating show instead of just taking cheap shots at people who (ironically) agree with you about most issues? I had to stop watching it because it ticked me off.

I hope you take it as a badge of courage, Alan, that you take heat from the whole political spectrum.

  31. In her blog, Greta referred to what Stewart did as cruel.

  32. Yeah, this whole deal with The Daily Show was a shame. I remember when that show used to be funny (how I miss you, Craig Kilborn).

I’ve watched H&C on and off for the last 3 years, and I’ve always appreciated the way Mr. Colmes carried himself. As a libertarian (small l), I can’t say that I often agree with him, but he has done something many Democrats will not do: go into the so-called “lion’s den” (Fox News) and present an alternative view. And he’s done it with class.

That you have such a good humor about it that you’d post it on your own site is admirable (I would not be able to same for myself). Sometimes I feel that the spirit of Rodney Dangerfield lives on with you, because you get so little respect from either side. Well, I for one am going to have a very hard time watching the show anymore. It’s very hard to enjoy Sean Hannity without Alan Colmes there to keep him in check.

  33. I really don’t get it. I’ve never seen Hannity and Colmes, but I like both Alan and Jon Stewart.

I always thought that what makes the Daily Show funny is that they make fun of EVERYBODY.

Didn’t they say that the Fox News counterpart to the Daily Show flopped, because they ONLY made fun of the other side?

  34. OLD LEFTY, I hope that Alan & Sean come out with a best of H&C,08.DVD it was Priceless,Hilarious, must see T.V.2oo8 was a great year 4 Alan Colmes, he left them extra crispy with just a few words,I mean fuming mad!

  35. Alan,

Put that on the farewell show, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze.

  36. To those of you making the “mullet” cracks regarding Daryl’s hair; you obviously don’t know what a mullet is. I lived through those days. A mullet is a hairstyle that is very long around the back and possibly the sides and very short on top. Daryl doesn’t have a mullet. I don’t remember ever seeing him sporting a mullet. Ever.

  37. I had avoided actually listening to what I knew would be awful, unfunny music – but as a former mullet man myself, I decided to look at it and see if Daryl’s hair qualified.

Daryl, I had a mullet myself, I have seen NASCAR fans, you sir – have no mullet.

PS. I was right about the music, and the complete lack of humor.

  38. Marsha,

And just for the record, this wasn’t Hall and Oates “reuniting”. They’re still a duo and stil have thousands and thousands of loyal fans.

Surely it is ‘dozens and dozens’ of loyal fans. I just don’t want to live in a world where Hall and Oats have more than say, fifty loyal fans.

  39. Um Cara:

Say it isn’t so. What your saying about Hall and Oats, I can’t go for that. You must really be out of touch.

    Sincerely,

    Rich Girl

  40. Mark,

Blame it on my freshman roommate (see first post on this thread). I submit that any normal person subjected to two hours a day of Hall and Oats for an entire semester would feel the same as I!

  41. Um Cara:

    You didn’t get it.

    SAY IT ISN’T SO.
I CAN’T GO FOR THAT (NO CAN DO).
    OUT OF TOUCH.
    RICH GIRL.

Well… I guess you can be proud of that in a way.
