Nizar Rayan (r), his four wives, and ten children were killed in their home after they ignored warnings of a strike.  Thousands of Hamas supporters marched in the streets with mourners holding up bodies to the cameras to underscore Israel’s brutality.

Israel’s military says the homes of Hamas leaders are being used to store missiles and other weapons, making them a legitimate target.

Rayan, an influential preacher, had previously denied Israel’s existence and was a known mentor of suicide bombers.

He even sent one of his sons on an October 2001 suicide mission that killed two Israeli settlers in Gaza.

Rayan was a professor of military law.  It’s rumored that that Palestinian National Authority may have asked Israel to kill him because of his role in violent battles that undermined the peace efforts of Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas.

Rayan was fundamentally against the state of Israel and had declared: ‘There is nothing called Israel, neither in reality nor in the imagination.’

He was preaching in a local mosque on the day before he was killed and said: ‘Our only language with the Jew is through the gun.’

Responses to this post...

  1. They hide behind children and women, they deserve what they GOT !
    They are animals !

  2. Let me get this straight, Rayan and his family was killed by an Israeli strike AFTER he was warned about the strike!?! And they call Israel brutal?

  3. 4 wives – how ridiculous!

  4. I have no sympathy for Rayan or even his four wives, but I do feel bad for those poor innocent children who had no choice to be part of such a horrible situation.

  5. Can’t say I am deeply moved by this. They are killing children on both sides. All these little dead bodies upset me. I really could careless what their parents think or believe. It is still a child’s blood spilled in the name of insanity.

  6. Four wives = four headaches

  7. Four wives = just getting started.

  8. Four wives = four headaches = less sex.

  9. Brad –

Do you mean less sex for the women?

  10. I would suggest you reply “YES” to that question Brad.

  11. Well if that’s the case, I know many women who might consider converting to Islam!

  12. LOL

  13. Hey, lay off brother Brad, you two.

You have no idea how hard it is to keep just one happy.

  14. Hey PFKAM,
    ;-)

I’ll apologize for calling the US “lonely, isolated and mean” or whatever I said, if you’ll pop over for a look at my explanation, and critique of your “The US is the most caring and genourous country in the world rant”!?
    on the FWN thread?

    heh heh

Again, my point wasn’t really that you’re country sucks (it doesn’t, not really)…it was just the shock at how some people will defend it ‘right or wrong’..

    Anyway, peace bro’

Even moderate, but still flag-waving, liberals are always welcome in the debate.

In fact you may find that you made some new friends on that thread by bashing poor ole frosty…

    :-(

  17. Hey Frosty:

I read it. It’s all good.

You’re right, I did take it personally. I did some backpacking on the West Coast Trail over the summer and I felt first hand anti-american sentiment from Canadian citizens. Please excuse the hyper-sensitivity.

I can’t go toe to toe with you on the whole international philanthropy thing. I’m just a regular guy trying to take care of my family and do the right thing.

Keep giving it straight. I learn a lot from your posts. Just don’t beat up on us americans too bad.

    Mark

  18. Damn and I was gonna go all Col. Jessup (few good men) on Frosty. lol Gotta love free thinking… Damn canadians and their facts. but I have a fact Lord Stanley Cup has’nt seen canadian soil since 92. hahaha

  19. And they have weird quarters.

  20. hey, did you get all moved in?

  21. 2morrow brother will be the last of it. I’m on the move tryin not to miss work and move at the same time. thanks for askin….. wanna help lol

  22. I don’t even put my glass in the dishwasher.

Wait… maybe I should. You’re the only friend I have left. I have p*ssed off all the conservatives and now I’m p*ssing off the liberals too.

Thanks for throwing up that Dawkins scale. I always wondered what that was. I’m a 4.

  23. lol yeah prolly wont be back online until friday when the cable gets hooked up.

  24. “”I did some backpacking on the West Coast Trail over the summer and I felt first hand anti-american sentiment from Canadian citizens.”"

Wicked, I haven’t done “the Trail” myself, but I lived and worked on a charter boat from ‘91-’98 in Vancouver and have seen much of the west coast from the water…

    Beautiful area.

And I agree that there has been a lot of unfair criticism of the US, especially from young Canadians. But what they are mostly critical of is not the people, but the policies of the last 8 years (and before, it’s not just W).

    Anyway, it’s a new day ahead…

I believe most Americans mean well, even many conservatives. Well, some anyway…

In fact during two years I spent teaching in Guatemala in ‘03-’04, I found myself sticking up for the American people in the face of vitriolic hatred from ex-pats and Europeans alike! Most finally admitted that they only knew the US from its gov’t policies and TV, lol.

At the end of the day, most people all over the world share one thing in common. Like you, and I, and others on here, they are just trying to provide for their families and do the right thing…

  27. curling rocks I got addicted to that during the winter games… lol

  28. Yeah, I think TV has a lot to do with it too. The constant 24/7 news coverage and most of it is editorial disguised as news.

What did you teach? You know a lot about a lot.

  29. And then they all ran home and hid behind their wives’ skirts.

  30. They were warned to leave. They paid the price for not heeding Israels warning. Does Hamas warn the Israeli’s before they fire rockets into Israel?

  31. I feel bad when children are placed in the position that these were.

  33. I wish there was another choice

There were lots of other choices, dude.

    - The Hamas wacko could have chosen to leave, or at least told his family to leave
    - Israel could choose to deal with Hamas diplomatically
    - The Palestinian bombers could choose to quit blowing up Israelis
    - etc..

There are plenty of choices other than violence. Granted, sometimes violence is the best choice (i.e. I’m not a pacifist), but there are always other choices than violence.

Pretending otherwise only makes the choice of violence easier, which is not a good thing.

  34. Does anyone know how many Iraeli civilians and military have been killed by the 6,000 deadly high-tech Iranian-made rockets so far?

    Must be in the thousands!?

  35. dunno frosty. I know a school full of israeli children would have been blown up this morning if the government hadn’t ordered their parents to keep them home.

  36. What’s your point Frosty? Because there were not as many Israeli’s killed it is ok to launch rockets untill the numbers match?

  37. diplomatically I get so tired of people using that term like its the answer to everything. Israel has every right to defend itself. They have tried the diplomacy effort time and time again. If someone picks a fight the only outcome is one wins and one doesn’t get up again.

  38. Was watching an interview today. Can’t remember the guy’s name though I have seen him for years doing these interviews. He is some sort of palestinian representative here in the u.s.

He was saying that israel needs to give up part of their land to the palestinians. when the interviewer asked why the arab nations that surround israel didn’t share part of their land he didn’t have an answer for that.

  39. “”What’s your point Frosty? Because there were not as many Israeli’s killed it is ok to launch rockets untill the numbers match?”"

Well, it does seem a little one-sided don’t you think?

We keep hearing 6000, 6000 6000, but Faux never gives the number (It’s 22 killed in 5 years, 19 in 2 weeks)

But you may have a point, a ‘war’ is a ‘war’, that is we could call it that, the US lies to call it an excursion, o well…

    But seriously,

Let me ask you Willy, I lived in England for many years and in Manchester where I often worked you can still see the scars of IRA bombs that flattened 3 city blocks.

For many years the radical Catholics from Northern Ireland bombed targets in England (and NI). The response from England was swift and firm, many terrorists were killed as well by the loyalist forces in Northern Ireland. About a couple hundred on each side over 30 years.

Now, would you , honestly, support an airstrike by the RAF on Belfast, where then IRA lived and ‘hid’? Would you have supported the killing of hundreds, perhaps thousands of innocent Catholics in order to stop the bombings?

After all, the IRA was far more deadly in it’s efforts than Hamas.

    Willy?

  40. You’re gonna honestly compare the IRA from 30 years ago to the Hamas of today? You’re going to compare rockets fired on Israel to car bombs of the IRA. You can’t be that out of touch with reality?

  41. That is just sick to parade the dead bodies of children around the street. That’s done to stir people up and is appalling.

  42. A child is no more or less a human than an adult is. If Hamas really cared about their children they’d quit rocketing the children of a country quite willing – and able – to put each and every one of their sorry asses in a burn pile. Sooner or later someone with a brain is going to step forward and cut Israel loose to clean up that corner of the world – THEN there will be peace. After that happens the remaining Palestinians who want to live in peace with their Israeli brethren will be free to prosper alongside them.

  43. Hamas wanted to act like animals and toss rockets across the boarder, I’m sorry I don’t feel sorry for them. They should not be rewarded for bad behavior anymore.

  44. The point about children is they are all innocent. Its one thing to say Hamas members deserved this but not the children.
Let’s break this down more simply:

If Israel knows that a Hamas terrorist (or even several) is living in an apartment, do they have the right to bomb that apartment even though there maybe children or other innocent people present?
Or let’s take this a step further.. Suppose Hamas goes so far as to place a weapons cache in a room at a school or kindergarten, is that still a fair target?

It’s one thing to say ‘Israel phoned/dropped leaflets etc’ but isn’t that effectively saying “All innocent people need to move out of the area or we will kill you as well”.

The fact is whether you blame Hamas for the death of the innocents, the Palestinians don’t. They largely blame Israel (at least based on the reports I’ve read/seen). Until that changes, Israel simply cannot win.

  45. Frosty,

I don’t support the killing of any innocents.

By the way I left this site before I saw your post so I will respond this morning.

How do you fight the terrorist group Hamas when they hide behind women and children? How do you fight the terrorist group Hamas when they hide in mosques? Israel sent plenty of warning to all those who were in harms way. From where I sit I would heed those warnings and get my family and myself out of there.

Unfortunately innocents die in armed conflict, but in this case Hamas puts women and children directly between them and Israel. Just like the COWARDS that they are.

  46. “If Israel knows that a Hamas terrorist (or even several) is living in an apartment, do they have the right to bomb that apartment even though there maybe children or other innocent people present?”
If they have been warned, yes.

“Or let’s take this a step further.. Suppose Hamas goes so far as to place a weapons cache in a room at a school or kindergarten, is that still a fair target?”
Is it a fair weapons cache? Let’s say an accident happens and that cache blows up. Who hold the moral responsibility for that?

“It’s one thing to say ‘Israel phoned/dropped leaflets etc’ but isn’t that effectively saying “All innocent people need to move out of the area or we will kill you as well”.”
If an area is about to be flooded, isn’t it the government’s responsibility to evacuate the area? If a person knows about the flood but still stays, isn’t he responsible for his own death?
If Israel was like Hamas, it would have at least 50 dead children in the past week from direct hits is schools and kindergartens.

“Until that changes, Israel simply cannot win.”
Win what? What do you think will be considered a victory in Israel?
