The Portuguese water dog, which doesn’t shed, is among the breeds the American Kennel Club recommends for those with allergies. A seafaring breed that has been known for centuries along the Portuguese coast, “it was prized by fishermen for a spirited, yet obedient nature, and a robust, medium build that allowed for a full day’s work in and out of the water,” the Kennel Club writes on its Web site.

Ted Haggard: Neither Gay Nor Straight

Following his gay sex scandal, former evangelical pastor Ted Haggard says he can’t put his sexual identity into “stereotypical boxes.”

Haggard resigned as president of the 30 million-member National Association of Evangelicals and was fired from the 14,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colo., in November 2006 amid allegations that he paid a male prostitute for sex and used methamphetamine.

In a written apology at the time, Haggard confessed to a long battle against feelings contrary to his beliefs and admitted buying the drugs but said he never used them.

Prince Harry’s Racist Video

Is someone a racist because he uses racist language?  Britain’s News of the World published a video of Prince Harry doing just that.  The video is supposedly from a 2006 visit to Cyrus where he is doing training exercises.

Harry is heard to refer to one colleague as “our little paki friend” — using a derogatory term for people of Pakistani origin.

A Fine Goodbye

TV Newser , via Johnny Dollar, has the video of the last moments of Hannity and Colmes.  Since I won’t be around to balance Hannity out, I gave him a copy of the works of Karl Marx, including The Communist Manifesto.  Included in my gift packet was a map of “Hannity’s America” where all the states are red, but there are blue dots at Cambridge, MA and Berkeley, CA.  I received a picture of a shirtless Barack Obama. Oh, yeah, and a gorgeous Rolex.

A Heartfelt Thank You

Blago Impeached

Governor Rod Blagojevich of Illinois was impeached by the Illinois House for abuses of power, accused of trying to autioning off Barack Obama’s Senate seat.  The vote was 114 yes, 1 no, 1 not present.

Rep. Milt Patterson (D-Chicago) was the lone vote against impeaching the governor. Patterson, from Chicago’s Southwest Side, said after the roll call that he didn’t feel it was his job to vote to impeach the governor. He declined comment on whether he approved of the job Blagojevich is doing.

Impeachment, by the way, does not mean guilt.  Impeachment is an accusation of wrongdoing.  …

Outcry By UN, Red Cross And Vatican

International aid groups are accusing Israel of neglecting needy Palestinians, some of whom are trapped among rotting corpses.

The United Nations declared a suspension of its aid operations after one of its drivers was killed and two others were wounded despite driving vehicles bearing United Nations flags and coordinating their movements with the Israeli military.

The death toll in Gaza is at 750, with women and Children accounting for 40% of the dead.  The UN says it’s being told by Gaza authorities that among the 758 fatalities are 257 children and 56 women.  Among the injured are 3100, 1080 …

Roland Burris Is Not Dead

Politically or literally.  But when he does shuffle off his mortal coil, he’s ready to go.  He has prepared a monument to himself listing his accomplishments, with room left for those yet to come.  And carved on his mausoleum are the words “Trail Blazer”.  Nothing wrong with working on one’s image.  Or making sure that image goes on for posterity.
