The New Miss America

Katie Stam of Indiana is the reigning queen. She’s 22, and a student at the University of Indiana at Indianapolis. She sang “Via Dolorosa”, spoke out against performance-enhancing drugs for athletes, has been competing in pageants since the age of 15, and wants to be a TV news anchor. About glamour, she says, ”That beauty that you feel on the inside, it’s that confidence, that radiance inside of you, that’s what glamour is.”…

Michael Hood at BlatherWatch has Obama’s warning to Republicans:
“You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done,” he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his $875 billion stimulus package.
Later the White house clarified: “There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats. We shouldn’t let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done.”
Limbaugh, being the showman he is, offered how he hopes Obama fails, in spite of his anti-left tirade in 2006 when he said, “I’m getting so sick …

Liberaland reader Epiphany turned me on to this one. Ted Kefalinos, of Greenwich Village’s Lafayette French Pastry bakery has created a cookie he calls either “Drunken Negro Heads”, “Drunken N Word Cookies”, or “Obama Heads”. One customer was shocked with this offer by the proprietor: ”Would you like some drunken negro heads to go with your coffee? They’re in honor of our new president. He’s following in the same path of Abraham Lincoln; he will get his.”
Kefalinos tells Arnold Diaz of Fox 5 in New York, “It’s an expression of freedom. For me it’s just a fun thing; that’s …

In spite of the Republican promises to donate Sarah Palin’s expensively-bought clothing to charity, the $180,000 wardrobe is sitting in trash bags at RNC headquarters, reports NewMajority.
While Palin followed through on her promise to return her controversial wardrobe after the election, it seems the RNC has not followed through on its promise to give most of the clothes away.
When taken to task for not dressing like the soccer mom she purported to be, Palin said the clothes belonged to the RNC, not to her, and that they would be returned at the end of …

Noel Sheppard over at the right-wing Newsbusters site run by conservative media critic Brent Bozell delights that the audience on the Doctor Phil show Thursday liked Ann Coulter more than me. He, in fact, finds it “astounding” that it was so. Not so “astounding” given that some of the crowd consisted of a local college’s young Republican club. Unfortunately, the audience really didn’t like Scott McClellan, the former Bush press secretary, who wrote a not-so-favorable-to-Bush book. Phil asked McClellan if he betrayed Bush. The few non-Bushies in the crowed reacted favorably when I suggested the better question was whether Bush …

Just a day after the end of their political marriage, Dick Cheney says it was a mistake for George W. Bush not to pardon his former chief of staff Scooter Libby.
Cheney told THE WEEKLY STANDARD that his former chief of staff, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, whom he described as a “victim of a serious miscarriage of justice,” deserved a presidential pardon.
Asked for his reaction to Bush’s decision Cheney said: “Scooter Libby is one of the most capable and honorable men I’ve ever known. He’s been an outstanding public servant throughout his career. He was the victim of …

PIX News in New York is reporting that Congresswoman Gillibrand, who represents upstate New York, will be chosen by Governor David Paterson to replace Hillary Clinton as New York’s junior senator. The announcement is to be made at noon Friday in Albany.
Speculation is that the governor’s thinking is that it benefits to have a senator from upstate, and that Hillary Clinton, herself, supports Gillibrand as her successor. Carolyn Maloney, the New York City congresswoman who was also up for the job, will also be in Albany Friday. I wonder if Gillibrand would have been chosen had Caroline Kennedy not …
