More CPAC Insanity: Bolton “Joked” That Nuking Chicago Would Teach Obama A Lesson

It’s hard to tell if he’s joking under that mustache, but former UN Ambassador John Bolton, one of the most extreme hardliners in recent administration history, “joked” at the Conservative Political Action Conference that Obama might learn something if only a nuclear bomb would destroy Chicago.
“The fact is on foreign policy I don’t think President Obama thinks it’s a priority,” said Bolton. “He said during the campaign he thought Iran was a tiny threat. Tiny, tiny depending on how many nuclear weapons they are ultimately able to deliver on target. Its, uh, its tiny compared to the Soviet Union, but …

Echoing Republican Party co-boss Rush Limbaugh (the other being Joe the Plumber), Tom Delay, Mark Levin and Rick Santorum also wish for a failed Obama presidency. Delay had this exchange with Think Progress at the Conservative Political Action Conference:
TP: Do you agree with Rush Limbaugh that we shouldn’t hope for President Obama to succeed?
DELAY: Well, exactly right. I don’t want this for our nation. That’s for sure.
Delay also says the enemy is the left:
Talk show host Mark Levin and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum added to the chorus when interviewed by …

Congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, who was a contender for the Democratic nomination for president last year, says Obama is going “in the right direction in Iraq, but I do not think that his plan goes far enough. You cannot leave combat troops in a foreign country to conduct combat operations and call it the end of the war. You can’t be in and out at the same time.”
“America must determine at some point to end the occupation, close the bases and bring the troops home. We must bring a conclusion to this sorry chapter in American history where …

The political party that once hailed Ronald Reagan as its best representation is now treating “Joe the Plumber” as the embodiment of its image. Last year Bush and Cheney were its starts. This year, it’s a guy without a license who calls himself a plumber.
In other C-PAC news, conservatives continue to exhibit what they’re against rather than what they’re for, by offending gays, for example.

Michele Bachmann, the Minnesota congresswoman who doesn’t always think before inserting foot in mouth, obviously got excited with the words of RNC Chair Michael Steele when Steele, speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference, said that the conservative movement must be a revolution that transforms America.
As Steele concluded his remarks, Minnesota Rep. Michelle Bachmann – the event’s moderator – told Steele he was “da man.”
“Michael Steele! You be da man! You be da man,” she said.
When I once confronted Congresswoman Bachmann after she suggested an investigation of people in Congress to find out which members …

This week we’ve seen the attempt by conservative governors to have it both ways: blast the Democratic stimulus plan, but take the money anyway. We’ve seen Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal stumble badlyduring his response to Obama’s address to the joint session of Congress. (How bizarre is it that the governor of the Katina state has a problem with money for volcano monitoring, much to the dismay of geologists?). Now, at the annual CPAC conference, the wingnuts are continuing to push the myth that Obama wasn’t born in the US.
Cliff Kincaid, head of Accuracy in Media, …

Or, are you totally electronic media-dependent to get your news? Word today that the Rocky Mountain News will fold Friday, two weeks shy of its 150th anniversary, is sending shock waves through the newspaper industry. And more papers are in trouble.
Today’s announcement (left) comes as metropolitan newspapers and major newspaper companies find themselves reeling, with plummeting advertising revenues and dramatically diminished share prices. Just this week, Hearst, owner of the San Francisco Chronicle, announced that unless it was able to make immediate and steep expense cuts it would put the paper up for sale and possibly close it. Two …

The Pentagon will now allow the press to photograph the flag-draped coffins if the war dead as they return home. The ban began in 1991 under Bush 41. Senators John Kerry and Frank Lautenberg asked the Obama White House to roll back the ban.
This policy was most strictly enforced by the Bush 43 administration, concurrent with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
As of Wednesday, at least 4,251 members of the U.S. military had died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
As of Tuesday, at least 584 members …
