The unnamed 23-year-old traveler was going from Dubai to Melbourne. Australian customs found two pigeons wrapped in padded envelopes and held to his legs by a pair of tights under his trousers.
Customs officials say they also seized seeds in the man’s money belt and an undeclared aubergine [eggplant], following the flight on Sunday.
They add that the pigeons were not endangered and that the case, as well as the birds, eggs and seeds, has been turned over to the country’s Quarantine Service to assess the health risk.

Not-Joe The Non-Plumber Not Sure American Public Deserves Him

Joe the Plumber, turned war correspondent, turned GOP strategist, says America can wait if it wants him to run for office. Offering such gems as, “I don’t believe there’s two sides to every story. It’s black and white. There’s right and wrong,” and saying the stimulus package need to be killed because “it’s American government,” Mr. Wurzelbacher is now on minute 19.
As for his own political career, America will just have to wait six years until his son grows up.
“I don’t know if the American public deserve me,” he said, “but my son definitely …

Only two weeks into the new administration, Dick Cheney has broken the code that says an outgoing executive doesn’t criticize the successor. He told Politico that there is a “high probability” that terrorists will try to attack us using biological or nuclear power, and that Obama’s policies will make it likely they’ll succeed. Cheney criticized Obama and his team, saying they don’t understand the ways this country could be put at risk.
“When we get people who are more concerned about reading the rights to an Al Qaeda terrorist than they are with protecting the United States against people who …

John at Crooks and Liars asks if Judd Gregg didn’t play the Blago game. Was a deal made with New Hampshire Governor John Lynch, a Democrat, that a Republican fill his seat? Gregg’s former chief of staff, J. Bonnie Newman, gets the gig, although she says she’ll step down in 2010.
Senator Russ Feingold of Wisconsin applauds the Gregg appointment, but says:
“But the apparent behind-the-scenes deal-making that went on to determine who will fill Senator Gregg’s vacancy is alarmingly undemocratic. Once again, Americans will be represented in the Senate for nearly two years by someone they had no …

President Obama will announce salary limits for executives from companies who took TARP money from the government.
If the taxpayers are helping you, then you’ve got certain responsibilities to not be living high on the hog,” the president added.
The administration will make its announcement as congressional lawmakers work on their own proposals to restrict compensation for companies that get money from the $700 billion government rescue fund. One legislative plan would set the highest salary at a government-assisted institutions at $400,000.
There already are limits, but they want further restrictions after it came out that $18 billion in …

This comes one day after President Obama said he’d unequivocally stand behind him. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs says Daschle did this voluntarily, and not with a signal from the White House. It’s truly a shame. Daschle would have made an excellent HHS Secretary. But it’s also a shame that things went this long, this far, before these issues became public. Had Daschle paid up long ago, this wouldn’t have been an issue. OTOH they confirm Geithner as Treasury Secretary, and his area of concern has much more to do with taxes than Daschle’s does. Sounds like one standard …

Okay, I’m being snarky, since his name is Sam and he’s not a licensed plumber, but he is a desired guest at the Conservative Working Group, an organization of Republican staffers who meet regularly to chart strategy. He will address them on his views of the stimulus package (Surprise! He’s against it!). They clearly think he’s a big draw that will increase attendance for a 9AM meeting.
“In case you weren’t planning to attend CWG tomorrow morning, you might want to reconsider because Joe the Plumber will be joining us!” Kimberly Wallner, an aide to South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, …

Scientists at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and Harvard in Cambridge have discovered that what you dream about while asleep dictates how you behave when you’re awake.
“Our results suggest that the dreams most likely to affect our daily lives and relationships are the dreams that accord with our existing beliefs and desires,” [Carnegie Mellon researcher Carey] Morewedge says.

So a person who dreams about a loyal friend may then act in ways that encourage the friend to behave as in the dream.
Similarly, if you dream about someone you don’t like, you will probably …
