Murdoch Apologizes For Cartoon

In a rare move, New York Post Chairman Rupert Murdoch published a personal statement in the paper, apologizing for the Sean Delonas cartoon that seemed racially motivated and offended so many.  He said he is ultimately responsible and the buck stops with him.  And he promised greater sensitivity in the future.

Last week, we made a mistake. We ran a cartoon that offended many people. Today I want to personally apologize to any reader who felt offended, and even insulted.

Over the past couple of days, I have spoken to a number of people and I now better understand …

Bill Ayers and Me

ayers_2-23

My interview with Bill Ayers is getting some attention, not all of it positive.  One blogger uses the occasion to attack my appearance and calls me a “liberal whore” simply for interviewing him.  Another says he doesn’t like my style and, besides, “Ayers is a terrorist.”  I didn’t realize that interviews are only to be conducted with members of society that meets their approval.

Drudge, however, has some of the highlights,  part of a much larger interview which will be presented in its full form in the days to come.

Ayers on President Obama sending 17,000 additional troops to …

The Mark Sanford Stimulus Plan: Prayer

Appearing on C-SPAN, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford received a call from a financially-hurting resident of his state.  After describing how much he was suffering financially, he respectfully told the governor that he hoped Sanford wasn’t playing politics, as people need help.  Sanford’s response:

SANFORD: Well I’d say hello to Charleston because its home and I’d say hello to this fellow this morning and say that my prayers are going to be with him and his family because it sounds like he is in an awfully tough spot.

Anti-Gays Outside Oscars Say Ledger Will Burn In Hell

A group of Christian demonstrators outside the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles spent Oscar night protesting gay marriage and attacking the memory of Heath Ledger because of his role in “Brokeback Mountain”.  When Sean Penn accepted his best actor award for playing gay politician Harvey Milk, he jokingly referred to the industry by thanking, “You commie, homo-loving sons of guns.”

Penn addressed the issue of the outside protesters saying, ”For those who saw the signs of hatred as our cars drove in tonight, I think that it is a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage …

Clyburn: GOP Governors’ Stimulus Refusal Slap In The Face To Blacks

633270892785125506_jec-headshot-07

South Carolina Congressman Jim Clyburn says the refusal of southern governors to take stimulus money is “a slap in the face of African-Americans.” Clyburn added a provision to the package that would let state lawmakers override governors who won’t take the money.  While Clyburn says he doesn’t believe the governors are racially motivated, he believes the net effect of their refusals would hurt black Americans.

…the governors of Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, South Carolina, Alaska and Idaho have all questioned whether the $787 billion bill signed into law this week will even help the economy. Opponents, meanwhile, say they’re are putting …

Senator Jim Bunning Says Ruth Bader Ginsberg Will Be Dead Soon

r_bunning_i

Kentucky Senator Jim Bunning (seen at right, describing how much thought he gives before he opens his mouth), speaking at the Hardin County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day Dinner, says he supports conservative judges, “and that’s going to be in place very shortly because Ruth Bader Ginsburg … has cancer.”

“Bad cancer. The kind that you don’t get better from.”   He went on to muse, “Even though she was operated on, usually, nine months is the longest that anybody would live after (being diagnosed) with pancreatic cancer.”

Ginsberg, who goes back to work Monday having missed not one day on …

Obama Pledges To Halve The Deficit

President Obama says he’ll cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term.  That is quite a promise.  How does he do it?  By more taxes on those making more than $250,000/year, by getting out of Iraq, and by more efficient government.

“The deficit this administration inherited was $1.3 trillion or 9.2 percent of GDP. By 2013, the end of the president’s first term, the budget cuts the deficit to $533 billion or 3.0 percent of GDP,” said the official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Got a better idea?…

Fallout continues from Sean Delonas’ NY Post cartoon of a monkey as the author of the stimulus bill being shot by two armed officers.  Now, Benjamin Todd Jealous (above, holding a flyer calling for a Post boycott), president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, is asking the paper to fire Delonas and editor-in-chief Col Allen.  Jealous calls the cartoon “an invitation to assassination.”

After protests by high profile figures like Al Sharpton and Spike Lee, the Post issued an apology “to those who were offended by the image,” while still defending the cartoon.  Jealous referred to …

Republicans Who Voted Against Stimulus Can’t Wait To Get The Money

They voted against spending the money but they can’t wait to get it. Republicans like John Mica of Florida is now praising Obama’s “recognition that high speed rail should be part of America’s future.  Mica’s chief-of-staff’s rationale is that you can be opposed to the bill but like certain parts of it.  Yeah, like the parts that benefit YOU.

Don Young of Alaska, who also voted against the bill, now praises it as “a victory for the Alaska Native contacting program and other Alaska small-business owners.”  Former nay-sayer Pete Hoekstra of Michigan now says, ”If you know of someone thinking …

Janet Jackson’s Breast

janet-breast2

It’s been five years since some of the 143 million people watching the Super Bowl saw, at a distance, the right breast of Janet Jackson for 0.5625 seconds.  It cost CBS $550,000. Now the Supreme Court is set to announce whether it will hear the case upholding the fine.

The FCC said they received an “unprecedented number” of complaints and concluded the incident “was shocking to the viewing audience…during a prime time broadcast of a sporting event that was marketed as family entertainment and contained no warning that it would include nudity.”  The Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia …
