The Seattle Times suggests that “liberal” is out and “progressive” is too vague.  Let me suggest something else.  “Liberal” should never be out, as it has historical significance; it’s root is the same as that of the word “liberty”; and liberals shouldn’t allow conservatives to demonize what the are. Also, I called this joint “Liberaland” for a reason. (Not to mention my book, Red White and Liberal).

Liberal and Progressive are both great words.  They can mean the same thing.  My main objection is that by giving up the “L” word, we are ceding the battle of words to the other side. That’s not a concession I care to make.  So, let’s be proud if we’re liberals, and not slink away from a wonderful word with a rich history that is still relevant today.
