Conservatives Are SO Cute!

090327_snuggies_gavin297

Politico describes how conservatives are embracing the Snuggie.  This is a blanket with sleeves that keeps you “snugglie warm”.  Derek Hunter of Americans for Tax Reform is on a mission, Lord knows why, to photograph conservatives wearing this contraption.

Hunter purchased the Snuggie after a bit too much to drink and later brought it into work simply to prove to his fellow Tax Reformers that, yes, he had – embarrassingly – purchased a Snuggie. Soon, colleagues began taking photos of themselves in it and, eventually, a Facebook photo page – “The Snuggie Cult” – was born.

Port Authority Exercises Its Freedom To Be Practical

freedom_tower

Patriotism gives way to marketability, as what was going to be the “Freedom Tower” will now be called “One World Trade Center.”

“As we market the building, we will ensure that the building is presented in the best possible way,” said Port Authority Chairman Anthony Coscia.

“One World Trade center is its address. It’s the address that we’re using. Its on the one that’s easiest for people to identify with and frankly we’ve gotten a very interested and warm reception to it.”

Why does the word “freedom” have a political connotation? Why is “One World Trade Center” better …

Ashcroft: Waterboarding Defines Many Things, Not Just One Thing

Speaking at the University of Texas at Austin, former Attorney General John Ashcroft was approached by Bryan Hannah, an Iraq war vet who served in the First Calvary Division as an artillery man from October 2006 until January 2008.  I confess to being a bit put off by Hannah’s approach, but I’m similarly incredulous about Ashcroft, who said the term “waterboarding” is being thrown around recklessly, that the word doesn’t define a particular idea, but rather a broad set of ideas.

Ashcroft: There are things that you could call waterboarding that I am firmly convinced are not torture. There …

The Hypocrisy Of The Bama-Bashers

I might scream if I read one more right-wing rant about “Obama’s power grab.”  One can argue whether what Obama/Geithner are doing constitutes government action, although it was government inaction and lack of oversight that led to the economic mess.  But where were the crybabies when BushCo did its eight-year-long power grab?  Why did those who accuse Obama of overreaching support the Patriot Act?  Why did they support an illegal and immoral war?  Where were they on warrant-less wiretapping?

The Pittsburgh Tribune writes:

The free market thrives when private companies are allowed to succeed and, yes, fail, …

New York Mayor Bloomberg Urges Gay Marriage Law

amd_bloomy

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has come out, you’ll pardon the expression, for gay marriage.

“We see that the tide is turning, that support is mounting,” Bloomberg told the annual dinner of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center. “Make no mistake, the time will come … and we will pass this bill.”

Getting in the way in the past has been the Republican state legislature, but now Democrats run the Senate, even though they haven’t rounded up enough votes thus far to pass a gay marriage bill.

“We need Republican votes to pass this. We gave a …

WWE Fans Prefer Randy Orton To George W. Bush

At Monday Night Raw, a video of George W. Bush thanking our soldiers and the WWE drew more boos than Randy Orton did when he sledgehammered Triple H and then dropped H’s wife Stephanie and kissed her.

The mere sight of Bush elicited thunderous boos — even more jeering than the maniacal Randy Orton, who dropped Triple H’s wife, Stephanie, on her head and kissed her while a handcuffed Triple H could only watch. Then Orton hit him with a sledgehammer. I’m going to repeat that again, just to be clear: To wrestling fans, George W. Bush is worse …

Meghan McCain Supports The President

artmeghanmccainlkl

She may not agree with all of his policies, but the woman who describes herself as a “progressive Republican” told Larry King, “Once the election is over all negative feelings are gone.  I support the president.”

King: How does your dad feel about that?

McCain: I think the same way. You know, my family is really good at letting go of things and moving on. And he just holds no grudges.

King: Do you think most of the people in your party agree with [Rush] Limbaugh? Do they want him to fail?

McCain: …
