Even The Homeless Are Connected

ph2009032202265jpg

Yes, the homeless have cell phones. They used their gadgets to photograph Michelle Obama when she served lunch recently at “Miriam’s Kitchen.” They have email.  Some, like Eric Sheptock, have blogs where they chronicle life on the street and follow the politics of being homeless.  Steve Thomas writes a journal called “Better Believe Steve” where he discusses homeless issues and his struggles with addiction.

Many will search the web for usable bathrooms, and to seek employment.  And it’s a way to keep family members aware of their well-being.  Score one for technology.…

GOP Talking Down The Economy

As President Obama expresses optimism that the economy will rebound next year, Republicans say, “not so fast.”  The Sunday shows offered prime examples of the differences in outlook.

“I think we are absolutely taking the right policies,” said Christina D. Romer, chairwoman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” one of two stops she made on the talk-show circuit. “I have every expectation, as do private forecasters, that we will bottom out this year and actually be growing again by next year.”

But Republican senators Judd Gregg of …

Three Bush Torture Memos To Be Declassified

Michael Isikoff in Newsweek is reporting that the White House is moving toward declassifying three memos that will, for the first time, detail enhanced interrogation techniques used on “high value” al Qaeda suspects.

The memos, written by Justice Department lawyers in May 2005, provide the legal rationale for waterboarding, head slapping and other rough tactics used by the CIA. One senior Obama official, who like others interviewed for this story requested anonymity because of the issue’s sensitivity, said the memos were “ugly” and could embarrass the CIA. Other officials predicted they would fuel demands for a “truth commission” on torture.…

Bishop To Boycott Banquet If Michael Steele Speaks

l17678584465_7976

Bishop Gerald Andrew Gettelfinger (right), of Evansville, Indiana, says he will not attend a pro-life dinner on April 16 if  RNC Chair Michael Steele addresses the crowd.  The other honoree that night is to be Alaska’s Governor Sarah Palin, and 4500 attendees are expected.

Nor will Bishop Gettelfinger be the only prominent area pro-lifer to shun the banquet over Mr. Steele. Evansville Catholic Charities Director Jim Collins also plans to boycott the gathering, saying he was “shocked” by Mr. Steele’s answers on abortion during a recent interview.

In an interview with GQ, published in the latest issue of the …

SCOTUS To Decide If “Hillary: The Movie” Spots Would Have Been Negative Advertising

hillarythemovie

Made by Clinton critic David Bossie, “Hillary: The Movie” was an attempt to cast a negative light on the then-presidential candidate and current secretary of state.  Bossie wanted to run ads for the movie during the presidential primaries in key states, as the movie was being shown in eight theaters.  Now the Supreme Court will decide if  Bossie and his attorney Ted Olson, also an anti-Clintonite, are correct, or if the federal courts were right when they said the movie was nothing more than an extended political attack ad.  You can see from the movie poster itself (above) just what the intent …

Feeling So Much Love, Joe The Plumber Says, “I’m Horny”

Speaking to the conservative Media Research Center, Sam Joe the non-licensed plumber, was really feeling the love; so much so that he couldn’t contain himself, declaring, “God, all this love and everything in the room – I’m horny.”

It seemed that all of those who were gathered in the ballroom of Washington’s Grand Hyatt hotel for the Media Research Center’s annual “DisHonors Awards” ceremony designed to bash the dreaded liberal elite media were stunned. Buzz immediately commenced.

“Did Joe the Plumber really just say he’s horny?” “Did you hear Joe say ‘horny’?” “Why is he horny and why …

Do Most People Tape Themselves During Intimate Moments?

20887-rihannachris_390

What is it with celebrities and sex tapes?  Who wants to watch themselves doing something that isn’t a specator sport?  Or is it that you improve yourself by watching tapes?  Star magazine is reporting that a sex tape exists of Rihanna and Chris Brown and that the songstress is distressed about it becoming public.

“Rihanna has no issues with her sexuality,” a source tells Star. “But she’d be mortified if her friends and family found this out!”

Insiders say Rihanna is still emotionally fragile and vulnerable since the Feb. 8 assault that left her nearly unconscious.

“This …

Was Obama’s Intent To Mock? Was Rush’s? You Decide

As predicted here last night, the right-wing echo chamber is in full attack mode because of President Obama’s remark on “The Tonight Show” that his poor bowling score qualifies him for the Special Olympics.  Even though the White House issued an immediate apology, that was not enough to stop attacks on his character.

CALLER: He meant exactly what he said, and it shows the character of this man.

RUSH: Yeah, I agree. I think he’s a cold guy. I think he’s got a chip on his shoulder. He’s got a little anger out there — and …

Is Palin Rejecting Stimulus Money to Further National Ambitions?

data

Some Alaskans are miffed and angry that Alaska’s governor is rejecting 30% of the stimulus money being offered her state.  While Palin is saying the funds she is not taking are those that “grow government,”  those dollars would go to schools, energy assistance and social services.

The news Thursday drew anger from those who accused Palin of putting her national political aspirations ahead of the state’s interests, and admiration from others who say she has courage to turn down money that would expand government. The state Legislature will have an opportunity to override her decision.

Palin is not taking about …

How About Six Years?

On the sixth anniversary of the start of the Iraq war, the predictions and promises of the engineers of this conflict come to mind.  In particular, then-Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said it would be more like six days, and certainly not six months.
