Oh, By The Way, Americans Still Dying In Iraq

Five Americans and 2 Iraqis were killed in a suicide attack truck bombing on Mosul today.  This is the deadliest attack in 13 months, and the second one in Mosul this year.

At least 60 people, many of them residents of the area, were wounded in the Friday attack and a number of homes and businesses were severely damaged, according to Brig. Gen. Abdul Karim al-Jubbouri, a spokesman for the local police.

The Interior Ministry’s spokesman, Maj. Gen. Abdul Karim Khalaf, told the state television station network Iraqiya that the truck was packed with about 2,000 pounds of explosives.…

Joe McCarthy Would Be Proud

data-1

Congressman Spencer Bachus of Alabama told a breakfast gathering that there are 17 socialists in the House.  Funny, Bachus voted for last fall’s bank bailout while others on the right called those casting votes that way “socialists.” And as the Huffington Post points out, a Rasumssen poll shows that a surprising number of Americans don’t have such a bad view of socialism after all.

Only 53% of American adults believe capitalism is better than socialism.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 20% disagree and say socialism is better. Twenty-seven percent (27%) are not sure which …

Meghan McCain: “(I) Was Surrounded By Hygenically Deficient Middle-Aged Political Strategists”

3303_74805950847_26883555847_2086195_507612_n

Meghan McCain is on radio with me tonight discussing, among other things, her new column at The Daily Beast.

I spent nearly two years on the road during my father’s presidential campaign, in my early twenties, surrounded by hygienically deficient, middle-aged political strategists traveling on a bus whose bathroom was almost always clogged. I did everything I could possibly think of to help get my father elected president. During that time, I admittedly realized conservatives’ failure to communicate effectively with my generation. But I also completely fell in love with the party, and started to understand why …

Do Republicans Really Want To Be The Teabagging Party?

3192981060_03b18bdc18

Forget the sexual references, something they might have thought of prior to this exercise in lameness.  (Emily Kaiser at the Minneapolis CITYPAGES says, “Last time we heard of a dude using ‘freedom’ as his excuse to tea bag anyone, he ended up behind bars.”)   Sending teabags through the mail post-anthrax-scare is not a great idea.

…as innocent as tea bags seem, they can cause false security responses when sensors detect an unknown substance. After the anthrax scare of 2001, when letters with the deadly spores were mailed to Congress, authorities don’t take anything lightly.

A Manchester, N.H., …

Uh Oh! Obama Might Do What Reagan Did

obamavisit8500_kgqawqnc

That would be, find a path for illegal immigrants to stay in America legally.  Obama plans to start addressing this publicly in May, form a working group, and begin developing legislation in the fall.

Administration officials said that Mr. Obama’s plan would not add new workers to the American work force, but that it would recognize millions of illegal immigrants who have already been working here. Despite the deep recession, there is no evidence of any wholesale exodus of illegal immigrant workers, independent studies of census data show.

Did Obama Bow To The Saudi King? And So What?

Conservatives are bent out of shape about the appearance of Obama bowing to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia at the G-20 meeting in London.

The Washington Times called the alleged bow a “shocking display of fealty to a foreign potentate” and said it violated centuries of American tradition of not deferring to royalty. The Weekly Standard, meanwhile, noted that American protocol apparently rules out bowing, or at least it reportedly did on the occasion of a Clinton “near-bow” to the emperor of Japan.

Interestingly, a columnist in the Saudi-backed Arabic paper Asharq Alawsat also took the gesture as a …

On Wednesday’s Radio Show…

• Alabama Democratic Chair Joe Turnham joins Alan to detail his role in the peacemaking between Rep. Mike Rodgers (R-AL) and Nancy Pelosi following Rodgers’ incendiary “snake” remarks regarding the House Speaker.

Tofu = Indecency? The Colorado DMV recently rejected a woman’s request for a personalized license plate that reads “ILVTOFU” due to its potential to offend. Alan examines its underlying meaning and this suddenly salacious bean curd.

• It’s the fastest debate on radio: The Lightning Round!…

Rick Warren: Jesus Today Would (Even) Hang Out With Democrats

Just like he spent time with prostitutes, the implication is, Jesus today would even spend time with Democrats.  That’s the gist of an interview the mega pastor did with conservative talker Hugh Hewitt.  Hewitt asks if Warren is surprised that he is sometimes a target.

HH: But does it surprise you?

RW: No, because as much as I want…my number one goal in life is to have a Christ-like ministry, to treat people the way Jesus did. And Jesus hung out with prostitutes, tax collectors and all different kinds of people. Today, he would have hung …

Alabama Congressman: Pelosi Is “Crazy” And “Mean As A Snake”

official_photo

Congressman Mike Rogers, speaking at Auburn University Montgomery, had some less-than-bipartisan words for those on the other side of the aisle.

Despite President Barack Obama’s commitment to bipartisanship, Rogers says Speaker of House Nancy Pelosi (whom he described as “crazy,” “mean as a snake” and “Tom DeLay in a skirt”) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid didn’t get that memo.

“They don’t talk to us,” he said. “They’ve got the vote, and they can do what they want.”

Rogers said to be fair Democrats are paying Republicans back for how they were treated when the Republicans controlled Congress.…

GOP Congressman Badmouths Our President “On Foreign Soil”

You know how President Obama and any other Democrat who says anything conservatives don’t like is raked over the coals whenever those comments are made “on foreign soil“?  Well, I would expect that when a fellow Republican attacks our president “on foreign soil” there would be the same level of outrage;  but, apparently not.

Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma, youtubing it from Afghanistan, felt the venue was just the right one to attack the American president.  Here’s what he says on his website, which isn’t the exact language in the video, but it’s the same theme:

“I …
