Bagram AFB Detainees Can Sue In US Courts

bagram_ii100702esmall

The Obama administration retained the Bush theory that detainees could not sue in federal US courts, but that was overruled today by Judge John Bates who said three of the four men who brought the suit could continue to pursue their release.

“Bagram detainees who are not Afghan citizens, who were not captured in Afghanistan and who have been held for an unreasonable amount of time — here over six years — without adequate process” have the legal right to sue in U.S. court, the judge ruled in a 53-page opinion

Bates cited the 2008 Supreme Court decision that Guantanamo …

Ward Churchill Wrongfully Terminated

ward-churchill-sunglasses

A Denver jury ruled that Ward Churchill was fired for his political views after he wrote an essay referring to some victims of 9/11 as “little Eichmanns.”

The jury, which deliberated for a day and a half, awarded Mr. Churchill only $1 in damages. Their verdict found that his political views were a “substantial or motivating” factor in his dismissal, and that the university had not shown that he would have been dismissed anyway.

The University of Colorado claimed that Churchill plagiarized and falsified some of his research and used that a reason to terminate him. Churchill said …

Blago Indicted On 16 Felony Counts

847s2sqd

Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich and his brother Robert have been indicted on federal corruption charges.

Robert Blagojevich, who lives in Nashville, had numerous discussions that were caught on tape involving his brother’s fund-raisers, including meeting with one regarding the Senate seat appointment, according to charges.

The former governor was allegedly captured on tape telling his brother to meet with a representative of U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill). Rod Blagojevich believed the congressman’s representative had promised to raise money in exchange for an appointment, according to the charges. Once Rod Blagojevich learned the feds might be listening to …

Gop Whip: Democrats “Overreacting” To Economic Crisis

070313_cantor_small1jpg

Eric Cantor, the Virginia Republican GOP whip says the spending going on is an overreaction to the failing economy.

The Virginia Republican, speaking to reporters at the Christian Science Monitor breakfast Thursday morning, praised Rush Limbaugh for his “ideas” and for avoiding the Democratic error of “overreacting, if you will, which this town often does, to crisis.. Rahm Emanuel said, ‘We’re not going to miss the opportunity to take advantage of this crisis because we’re going to do all the things we couldn’t get done before.”

He went on to criticize Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner’s recent statement that the …

Is Erick Erickson Nuts?

cover1-1_04

The Redstate blogger is talking revolution because his detergent doesn’t work.

At what point do the people tell the politicians to go to hell? At what point do they get off the couch, march down to their state legislator’s house, pull him outside, and beat him to a bloody pulp for being an idiot?

At some point soon, it will happen.

Were I in Washington State, I’d be cleaning my gun right about now waiting to protect my property from the coming riots or the government apparatchiks coming to enforce nonsensical legislation.

Maybe Erickson is …

Is That A Budget In Your Hand Or Are You Unhappy To See Me?

Republican House leader John Boehner held up a document last week to claim that President Obama was wrong when he claimed the GOP had no budget.  Waving the packet, Boehner exalted, “Here it is, Mr. President!”  Well, it turns out what Boehner was brandishing wasn’t a budget at all, but rather a document called “The Republican Road To Recovery.”

Paul Ryan, a Republican congressman from Wisconsin now says, ‘Somewhere along the line there was a misimpression given that that was our budget.”

“Somewhere along the line”?  Here’s where:

UK’s Guardian To Be Published Exclusively Via Twitter

Today’s funniest April Fools‘ article.

As a Twitter-only publication, the Guardian will be able to harness the unprecedented newsgathering power of the service, demonstrated recently when a passenger on a plane that crashed outside Denver was able to send real-time updates on the story as it developed, as did those witnessing an emergency landing on New York’s Hudson River. It has also radically democratised news publishing, enabling anyone with an internet connection to tell the world when they are feeling sad, or thinking about having a cup of tea.

A mammoth project is also under way to rewrite …

I’ve Decided To Become A Conservative

right_wing_1jpg

After much torturous thought, after years of struggle with my true inner core, and after seeing the direction this country is headed with liberals in power, I have had a dark night of the soul.  We have a president who is spending spending spending, a Congress which is going along for the ride, and companies being taken over by the government, which is the definition of socialism.  I no longer recognize my country.  In fact, I fear for her.

Maybe it’s because I walk down the hall and see Beck, Hannity, O’Reilly, et al, and, because I get to actually …
