Is Susan Boyle A Cowell Creation?

boyle

The viral video that made Susan Boyle an instant star and the backstory that created a collective of tears has at least one writer for the New York Post wondering if the who fairy tale ending wasn’t a set up.  Maureen Callahan asks why no one is suspicious of how the saussage is made at “Britain’s Got Talent.”

But there is something disturbing about the collective rejection-embrace-elevation of Susan Boyle. There is the element of self-congratulation in the viral spread of this link around the Web, the idea that we, the secondary viewers, the judges of those who are judging, are …

Pat Robertson On DHS Warning Of Right-Wing Exremism: Someone There Is Either Left-Wing Or Gay

That Homeland Security Department report that warns of right-wing extremism sure has conservatives’ underwear in a bunch, even though similar releases concerning left-wing extremism were met with barely a whimper.  So alarmed is the Reverend Pat Robertson, that he warns that “someone in the bowels of that organization is either a convinced left-winger or somebody whose sexual orientation is somewhat in question.”

Robertson, hosting the 700 Club, also gave out the number of Homeland Security and urged his viewers to “jam up the telephone lines.”

Kung Fu Star Jackie Chan: “We Chinese Need To Be Controlled”

jackie_chan_punch

We take for granted that individual choice and freedom is life’s ideal.  We might argue, left versus right, about how to best achieve that goal, but you rarely hear someone say they don’t believe in freedom.  Speaking at a forum of business leaders in Hainan, China, movie star Jackie Chan said he’s not so sure a free society is such a good thing.

“I’m not sure if it’s good to have freedom or not,” Chan said. “I’m really confused now. If you’re too free, you’re like the way Hong Kong is now. It’s very chaotic. Taiwan is also chaotic.”

Is Israel Getting Ready To Invade Iran?

bushehr-nuclear-pow_492929a

London’s Times is reporting that the Israeli military is at the ready, waiting for orders to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities (like the one pictured, the Bushehr nuclear power plant).

They are making preparations on every level for this eventuality. The message to Iran is that the threat is not just words,” one senior defence official told The Times.

Conservative Iowans Looking For Ways Around Gay Marriage Law

Even though the law in Iowa now requires state employees to give gays licenses to marry, some recorders are having difficulty bringing themselves to comply.   And Republicans are looking to see if there has to be compliance.

Warren County Recorder Polly Glascock said in an e-mail to colleagues that a woman from the Statehouse called her to ask how she’d handle the gay-marriage issue.

Glascock answered that she would be required to process the applications. “She inquired as to why I thought I had to do that – it’s not a law, it’s an opinion,” Glascock wrote.

The …

Please Prosecute, Mr. President

iraq_torture_01jpg

In spite of brutal interrogation methods used by the CIA, the Obama administration is deciding not to prosecute those who may have broken the law.   BushCo. approved these methods that were used between 2002 and 2005 in secret overseas prisons.  After World War II, the United States prosecuted Japanese interrogators who used methods detailed in four newly-released memos.

Among the techniques described:

  • Waterboarding

  • Keeping detainees awake for 11 straight days

  • Placing detainees in dark, cramped, boxes with insects

  • Forced nudity

  • Slamming suspects into walls

  • It is to the president’s credit that these details have been released, and he did so …

    Obama Derangement Syndrome

    d1609us0

The Economist on how Obama is driving the wing nuts mad:

BY MOST people’s standards Barack Obama has had an excellent week. He enjoyed a counter-Carter moment when navy commandos rescued an American hostage, leaving three kidnappers dead. He gave a measured speech on the economy. And, to cap it all, he gave his daughters a Portuguese water dog named “Bo”. What’s not to like?

Plenty, according to some people. Mr Obama may be widely admired both at home and abroad. But there are millions of Americans who do not like the cut of his jib-and a few …
