Is It Only Funny To Conservatives When Democrats Are Targets?

May 12th, 2009, 11:00 AM EDT

Golf analyst David Feherty (r), in Dallas’ D magazine, told a joke in questionable taste.

“If you gave any U.S. soldier a gun with two bullets in it, and he found himself in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Osama Bin Laden, there’s a good chance that Nancy Pelosi would get shot twice, and Harry Reid and Bin Laden would be strangled to death.”

Feherty was writing, glowingly, about his new neighbor, Bush43, and how the military loves him even if Democrats don’t.  Feherty apologized to Reid and Pelosi for his joke.

“This passage was a metaphor meant to describe how American troops felt about our 43rd president,” Feherty said. “In retrospect, it was inappropriate and unacceptable, and has clearly insulted Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid, and for that, I apologize. As for our troops, they know I will continue to do as much as I can for them both at home and abroad.”

But I didn’t hear any conservatives complaining about a joke where Nancy Pelosi takes two bullets.  Their sensitive ears get irritated only when one of their own is the subject of comedic barbs.   I’m sure that Feherty doesn’t want Nancy Pelosi to be shot, just as I’m positive Wanda Sykes doesn’t want Rush Limbaugh to experience kidney failure.  Now, can we all just laugh it off?

  1. Yeah, if you want to sound like you’re saying something, when you lack the brains and the convictions to really fill in the blanks, you say it was “inappropriate” and “unacceptable.”

But I’m glad Feherty will continue to “do for” the troops. Like a golf analyst in Dallas is doing anything for the troops.

You shouldn’t talk about Alan that way!

  2. Well conservatives are mega-level hypocrites about just about everything from their jokes to their politics so this really doesn’t surprise me. In fact I’m slightly shocked that this statement was retracted. If he had said that she should have had five bullets in her head then he would be hosting his own radio show nation wide by the end of the day.

  3. It’s funny.

  4. My my… and the truth hurts! I don’t think an apology is needed at all. I find it funny whereas there is probably some truth to it all!

  5. This guy looks just like the pictures I’ve seen of the devil.

Who took the pictures of the devil TDro? Are you a photographer? :) Just asking.

You’ve never seen a drawing of a devil with the horns holding a pitchfork? Well then, look in the mirror. =)And no, I’m not a photographer.

  6. The longstanding practice of attack politics is not exclusively for the conservatives, however, they have taken to a new level. They have made it an artform. May they drown in their own precious bodily fluids.

  7. He told a joke that was in bad taste just as Sykes told a joke in bad taste. Both jokes were about someone dying. Sykes was wishing Rush had kidney failure which could kill him. Feherty told a bad joke about Pelosi getting the two bullets.

Difference here is that Feherty apologized and Sykes is probably still partying and telling the same sick joke. Haven’t heard her apologize yet.

I’m sure if Feherty’s job wasn’t on the line, he wouldn’t have apologized.

  8. I thought they were both very funny. Sykes took shots at everyone not just Rush. She made a joke about Biden and a few other dems and they were all funny…people lighten up.

I thought most of Sykes’ routine was hilarious. I watched Hannity, and though he is like a demi-god to me, I thought he was going too far when he was questioning President Obama’s laughing at the jokes. What’s Obama supposed to do? It’s supposed to be a Rickles-esque routine no matter who is the comedian.

I think Sykes went a wee bit over the line when she said it was treasonous, etc., but other than that she was pretty darn funny.
