Utah Attorney General Mistakenly Twitters His Candidacy For Senate

May 13th, 2009, 2:37 PM EDT

Utah Attorney General Bob Shurtleff thought we was sending a private text message about an upcoming official announcement.  Instead, he was Tweeting and didn’t know that he had publicly announced a 2010 run for Senator Bob Bennett’s seat.

Apparently thinking that he was sending a private text message, Shurtleff posted that he would be making an official announcement soon, and that he could raise significant amounts of money in Utah, California, New York, Arizona and Texas.

He added, “time to rock and roll!”

The Tweets have since been removed from his account.

You have to wonder what an attorney general does with Twitter.  Can you put up an indictment in 140 characters or less?

  1. Well, if Shurtleff runs & wins, maybe the Senate should then consider keeping him away from classified information.

Let’s rock and roll! (bring it on).

  3. As a Luddite, I can empathize.

Understandable. A mistake like Shurtleff’s could easily confirm a person’s distrust of newer technology.

  4. I heard there was a program to prevent people from sending drunk e mails they later regret.

It requires you do a math problem before it sends the mail.

  5. “Utah Attorney General Bob Shurtleff…”

    Mark Shrutleff

A graduate of Brigham Young and a missionary for Mormons thinks he can raise money from NY? Hold on, lemme get out the tar and feathers.

as there are quite a few BYU grads working and living in New York, it’s not too far a stretch to think he can’t raise at least some money from the area, plus he’s probably a conservative, of which there are some in NYC.

  6. “Can you put up an indictment in 140 characters or less?”
Heck, I’m no lawyer, but some how I doubt it can be done in 140 characters or less. Perhaps Shurtleff thought using Twitter was just the “in-thing” to do.
