The POTUS should be honored to be allowed to speak there. And I don’t believe ND needs any federal money.

Off Topic: POTUS speaking: “The long-term deficit and debt that we have accumulated is unsustainable. We can’t keep on just borrowing from China or borrowing from other countries,” Obama told a town hall meeting event in New Mexico.
“We have to pay interest on that debt and that means that we’re mortgaging our children’s future with more and more debt,” he said.
First Thought? What took him so long to come to that obvious conclusion?
Second thought? Funny words coming from a man who just proposed 2010FY budget with a $1.8 trillion deficit attached.
Third? Do I hear the tax machine being started?

James, Obama did NOT inhertit the proposed FY2010 budget. He and his “team” made it up all by themselves apparently before the reality stick beat them in the head.
Check it out, James, Buch’s deficits averaged 3-4% of GDP. Obama’s first budget carries a deficit of nearly 13% of GDP.
May-be Obama should have “seen” reality last summer when John McCain purposed freezing government spending for a year to get a handle on things. Ya suppose?
Drastic times … drastic measures huh? Think drastic tax increases.
And one more thing if Ross Perot could see these drastic days coming 17 years ago why couldn’t Obama see them coming 12 months ago?

Bernie, Obama’s spending is mainly going to be for rebuilding our OWN country for a change, and the jobs created/saved will generate more tax revenue to help pay down the debt in the long haul. And of course Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthiest need to be allowed to expire; how else can you expect to see the debt paid down in the end, by waving a magic wand instead?
Have you forgotten, Bernie, that John McCain gave his “the fundamentals of our economy are strong” speech” the same day all the economic bad news started to hit us? He didn’t see reality very quickly, did he?
And one of Obama’s principal financial advisors, Paul Volcker (Federal Reserve chairman under Carter and Reagan), predicted in 2004 that the United States has a 75% chance of being hit with a financial crisis in the next five years (”The Gospel According to Paul”, in the 10/23/04 issue of Financial Times). So I’d say that Obama could see the drastic days coming before the economic crisis hit, better than John McCain could.
And the President’s words before the New Mexico audience the other day was to prepare people for when he’s going to have to reverse course on spending, once the economy’s out of the recession.
As for Ross Perot, didn’t he predict there would be “a giant sucking sound” of so many of our manufacturing jobs going south towards Mexico if we adopted NAFTA, and aren’t the Republicans the ones most oppposed to a repeal or modification of NAFTA because it would interfere with their precious free trade?!?

I think it’s wrong to disrupt the graduation over this issue…
Randall Terry’s point (I think) was not that Obama is Hitler, but ABORTION is such an evil issue that it’s along the lines of the Holocaust.
I don’t think Obama WANTS more abortions…he is just ignorant of reality or believes that a supposed “right” to choose trumps a young human’s right to live.
Late-term abortion is de facto infanticide, Alan! Not an opinion! Fact!

Oldlefty and TDro, your logic is extremely flawed and you’re both WRONG (as is the whole Democratic Party about abortion, so don’t feel bad).
In order for me to dislike a particular type of premeditated murder I have to support YOUR causes as well? “Actual babies”, Oldlefty? Have you ever had a biology class? Do we need to send you both back to take some remedial science courses? We’re not talking a cluster of cells. I’m talking 2nd/3rd trimester abortions which ARE performed and ARE “actual babies.”
As to the inane “womb” argument: I’m gonna take a slave, Oldlefty. Slavery should be legal because I don’t believe you should have control over my property.
Flawed, unscientific, irrational thinking, TDro and Oldlefty. I don’t know much, but I do know that the Democratic Party is absolutely WRONG on this issue. Roe v. Wade was and is horrible law and a scourge on this great nation. It shouldn’t even be a political issue to begin with.

As a matter of fact, one Catholic, conservative, general surgeon who I know, breaks with Republican ideology, on Roe v Wade because he says we can NEVER go back to the days of deaths by sepsis and hemorrhage…..particularly in third world nations.
I suppose you would like to go back to a day when only the rich can have the choice?
There is NO evidence from the medical community that abortions in the 2nd trimester are done more than 6%, and 3rd, more than 2%, most are illegal.
The burden of proof is on you to show that that it does happen the way you say it does….as medical sources more reliable than religious ideologues, say that this elective “late term abortion” doesn’t really happen, so I would say what the 2nd amendment people say: enforce the laws already on the books.
As for the ridiculous “slave analogy, my body is MY property, not yours.
Every time I get sucked into this debate with a male, I become more and more conv1nced that it has NOTHING to do with what is inside the womb, and everything to do with disdain for the owner of the womb….it is obvious in lack of concern for all life issues outside the womb, and the lack of support for prevention.
I think it is you who exhibit “flawed, unscientific, and irrational thinking” , but I agree that Roe should not be a political issue, but it should be a private issue between a woman and for doctor.
