Elena Kagan wanted to succeed Larry Summers as president of Harvard but, as it turned out, the Dean of Harvard Law became the Solicitor General of the United States. The person who argues for the administration before the high court is often looked at as a likely nominee for the court. The Boston Globe profiled her in January. She was looked upon as someone who made changes at Harvard Law great and small.

Boston conservative radio talk host Jay Severin was suspended by his station for ignorant, racist comments about Mexicans. Severin blamed Mexicans for the swine flu, calling them “criminaliens,” “primitives,” “leeches,” and “women with mustaches and VD.” Radio writer Michael Hood says it’s no wonder Republicans don’t enjoy the good will and the votes of the nation’s burgeoning Latino population.
Radio hosts, who serve as Republican surrogates these days, imitate Rush Limbaugh and make bombastic remarks grazing the outer edges of taste and political correctness to goad the respectable media into raising a ruckus, and thence: getting them into the papers.…

I just got off the phone with Michael Reagan. When he answered I said, “It’s the state of New Hampshire calling and I’d like a few words with you.” At the end of a discussion on gay marriage on CNN, Michael said to Stephanie Miller, “I’ll stay with God, you stay with New Hampshire.” Way to piss off an entire state, Mike.
