Earlier, we gave you the immediate reactions of those on both side of the political plate, but nothing terribly outrageous. Suddenly the knives are out. So much for “she deserves a fair hearing”-type statements. Now, here come the more extreme statements on the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor. Not surprisingly it’s those who would like Obama’s job, or radio talk show hosts, who have the most outlandish comments.
“The nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court is troubling. Her public statements make it clear she has an expansive view of the role of the judiciary. …

California’s high court upheld the ban on gay marriage put forth in Proposition 8, but is allowing same-sex couples already married to maintain those marriages legally. Looks like it’s now back to the voters.
Gay rights advocates, disappointed with the ruling, said their next step would be to “take it back to the voters,” said Jennifer Pizer, director of the marriage equality project for Lambda Legal.
Lambda has already launched an educational campaign, Marriage Watch California, that will specifically target the communities of color and diverse church groups, which overwhelmingly supported Proposition 8.
The court was split …

Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention (to FOX News Radio):
“Disappointed, but not surprised.”
“We should be concerned with any pick that wants to try to undermine Constitutional authority by making the Constitution a ‘living document.’”
“If we want empathy, we should get that legislators, not judges.”
Jonathan Falwell, Pastor, Thomas Road Church (to FOX News Radio):
“I don’t think this sends any message to conservative Christians because in all honestly it doesn’t surprise us. He’s a liberal.”
“We should be concerned. I would be far more concerned if she were replaced someone like Clarence Thomas or …

Sonia Sotomayor will likely be for first Hispanic to serve on the Supreme Court. Republicans won’t have the votes to successfully oppose the nomination, although they’ll certainly try. She was nominated to the Manhattan Federal Court in 1992 by the first President Bush, and was moved up to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals by President Clinton.
Profiled by Michael Saul in the New York Daily News, we learn she was a big fan of Nancy Drew stories and Perry Mason when she was 8. At that age, she was diagnosed with diabetes. That’s when she decided …

One has to wonder if this would have happened if Jerry Falwell, Liberty’s founder, were still alive. Liberty officials made the decision after complaints from trustees, parents and donors that the party’s platform goes against Christian moral principles.
“They really are great kids and good friends of mine,” said Jerry Falwell Jr. (r), who became the school’s chancellor after his father died in 2007. “It’s just an issue of what Liberty’s mission is.
Forget that universities are supposed to be a place where students learn about tolerance of diverse views. The club had only 30 members, not exactly a …

In November, voters in California passed Proposition 8, banning same-sex marriage. Tuesday, the Supreme Court of that state decides whether revoking the right of gays to marry is constitutional, and also rules on what happens to those who got married there when it was legal. 18,000 same-sex couples married between the time their unions were legalized in June and the November vote.
…opponents of same-sex marriage argue that it is illogical to continue to recognize marriages that can no longer be legally performed here.
Andrew P. Pugno, the general counsel for ProtectMarriage.com, the leading group behind Proposition 8, said …

Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef, an ally of Taliban leader Mullah Omar and Afghanistan’s former ambassador to Pakistan, talks of being abused at Bagram in Afghanistan and Gitmo in Cuba.
“I didn’t see a worse situation in my life than Bagram,” recalled Zaeef. “They were beating me, they put me in the snow, in the cold, until I was unconscious.”
Zaeef says he is bitter about being abused at both Gitmo and at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, that it’a a stain on American history, and that those who tortured need to be brought to justice.

According to Politico, conservatives are “itching for a fight.” Gary Bauer, former presidential candidate and head of the conservative group “American Values,” offers a “the other side does it, too” defense.
“The other side does not agonize about whether they are going to give a Republican Supreme Court nominee a difficult time, they just do it.”
Conservatives remember Sen. Ted Kennedy’s ferocious attack on “Robert Bork’s America,” the pubic-hair-on-the-Coke-can humiliations visited upon Clarence Thomas and the way that Samuel Alito’s wife cried after Sen. Lindsey Graham recounted the Democrats’ charges against her husband.
The tears of Martha-Ann Alito …

This is how the Republicans hope to re-brand the party? By a sexist video comparing Nancy Peloso to the villainess in the 1964 James Bond film, “Goldfinger,” with a first name that many of their members would find vulgar? The RNC refused repeated requests by Politico to explain the video.
It’s quite clear that Republicans think it can expand it’s white, male-based party by using sexism to sell whatever product it thinks it has. So far, rather than solutions to today’s problems, all it has is attacks on Nancy Pelosi.
Earlier this week, Pittsburgh radio host Jim Quinn referred to …
