James W. von Brunn: From Bigot To Birther
Of course, the first thing certain conservatives asked after the shooting at the Holocaust Museum was whether the shooter was Muslim. The white supremacists at Stormfront hoped it was a Muslim. But James W. von Brunn is the white founder of a website (now offline, it appears) called Holy Western Empire.
Von Brunn is being described as a member of the high IQ society Mensa who served time for attempting a citizens arrest (also called a kidnapping) of Federal Reserve Board members in 1981. He was arrested at the Federal Reserve on December 7 of that year with a revolver, a hunting knife, and a sawed-off shotgun in his possession. He wanted to take his prey hostage to protest high interest rates.
“I intended to bind their hands, and persuade them to appear on Television,” von Brunn wrote on his site, www.holywesternempire.org. “There, on camera, I intended to read to the American public my indictment of these treasonous liars. If I survived I expected to be arrested, then stand trial before a jury of my peers.”
He served 6 1/2 years of an 11 year sentence and referred to himself as a “political prisoner.”
According to the autobiography on his Web site, von Brunn served on a PT boat during the Second World War and was based on Corsica, an island off the southeast coast of France. He wrote of recovering a Nazi flag from an enemy boat and keeping it until it was “destroyed” after his “house was torched in 1977.”
In 2002, von Brunn published on his Web site a book that detailed anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, with chapters such as “the Holocaust Hoax” and “the Negro.” The book was mostly anti-Semitic but also attacked all non-white ethnicities.
“We are witnessing today on the world stage a tragedy of enormous proportions: the calculated destruction of the White Race,” he wrote.
He threatened to take action against minority races, writing “we will offer a plan to remove the cancer from our cultural organism.”
Von Brunn also decried “the browning of America” and wrote of a Jewish conspiracy “to destroy the White gene-pool.” He posted to various right-wing websites, including Free Republic, where this cached thread (the original was taken down) contains anti-Obama rants. As such, he was also part of the birther movement claiming there is no valid birth certificate for President Obama. The sad part about this is that we have elected officials trying to give this craziness credibility. Congressman Bill Posey of Florida introduced a bill that would require presidential candidates to file copies of birth certificates, and Rep. Bob Goodlatte of Virginia is a co-sponsor. Interesting company they keep.

I just read a little about James W. Von Brunn. I think he will burn in hell. How could somebody do such a thing? My paryers go to the family of the deceased who this sick person murdered.
June 10th, 2009 at 8:27 pm
As I see it, one of the great things about America is that, in a sense, we’re a mongrel: our gene pool is very mixed. I personally love that. It’s one of the things that makes us great and strong.
I don’t understand all the antisemitism around. Sometimes I think that’s proof that God exists because His people are constantly being persecuted and hated. Why? Because many Jews are talented, successful, and in high places? More power to them. I don’t get it…above my pay grade.
Throw this guy under the jail.

The “tragedy of enormous proportions” is that von Brunn and his ilk are so numerous in today’s world. How sick does it get before such people can awaken from the nightmare of the bottomless pit of hate they embody?
…And, I can’t help but ask..what has been the influence of the media megapersonality bullymongers? Can they claim innocense when they daily feed the psychopathology of ignoring the oneness of humanity?
The additional tragedy is that von Brunn has lived 88 years and has yet to experience love……..because no one who ever has known love could be capable of his despicable actions. The hell of being him is beyond my comprehension.
If given the choice, I would sooner live the short and courageous life of the security guard who was able to take action to save the lives of others than to be condemmed to live as a von Brunn for any amount of time. He is an example of a person no one should become..ever!

This is the message I never hear in the world of spite and spitting back and forth via TV set; that all life is sacred and we must find a way to live together in peace.
These messages kill ratings. That’s the big secret of the modern media. Even if they wanted to have a more ‘friendly’ media at FOX or MSNBC … they have to pull in the ratings and people really will turn off the channel and never tune back in if they have to hear anything but ‘the other guy is evil, you are perfect.’ It’s a shame.
Thank you again for sharing some sanity in this thread, Mary.

I don’t believe your argument, Mr. Colmes. That was the worst logical reasoning I have read in a long time. I use to watch your show all the time, I don’t remember your logical reasoning being so poor. How in any way does it relate that a person who believes in the racial superiority of whites (a very stupid, scientifically verifiably incorrect, illogical assumption, and bad history in what he claims about the Jews)make everyone who believes that Obama has never shown a true Hawian birth certificate (something completely different) stupid and illogical? Why was this person’s wacked out beliefs and prejudice in any way an indictment of so called birthers? Seems to be a position taken by people who cannot answer the birthers very clear and easily dismissed claims, if not true. By the way Obama could clear this whole question up real easy, yet decides to instead use the Court and waste his and others money and the court’s time when he could just release the proof of his being born in the USA. That seems to me to raise the old prosecutor’s question of what is he hiding and why is he spending so much time and money to keep birth documents out of the public? So much for transparity.
What this person, Von Brun, did was very wrong and he will ultimately pay for what he did, either in this life or the next when he ets to come face to face with and meet the Jewish G-d.
My condolenses goes out to the hero guards’ families. They are suffering a great loss right now, but I for one want to thank the families for the heros who gave their lives to save the lives of others who they did not even know. No one knows how many lifes they saved today with their ultimate sacrifice. Their lives had meaning and they showed the greatest love, in that they laid down their lives for others-See New Testiment Bible.

Southern Girl just called our founding fathers rediculous. Well not exactly, but calling the birth certificate issue rediculous is calling the part of our Constitution that specifically says a President of the US must be a natural born citizen rediculous. It is a Constitutional requirement and if there is even the slightest question about ones citizenship then one should put the whole issue to rest by releasing ones certificate of live birth. By refusing to do so only piles more questions on his legitimacy.
And by saying this issue is rediculous sort of tells me that liberals don’t care about portions of the Constitution or are so afraid that Obama may not be a natural born citizen.
Which is it?

What happened in Wichita and at the museum was murder, pure ans simple, but by EricG’s logic and by the logic of so many posters on this blog — it was the expression of non-majoritarian public policy making. We are indeed living in the culture of death that Pope John Paul II described.

June 11th, 2009 at 10:10 am
From the Huffy Post –
“Indeed a “birther” mindset is more a symptom of extremism than a cause.
That said, the extent to which the birther ethos has been driven into the political narrative by legitimate figures, and subsequently picked up by extremist elements, is noteworthy. In an obvious reference to questions about Obama’s birthplace, Rep. Bill Posey, R-FL, has introduced a bill in the House requiring presidential candidates to file a copy of their birth certificates. Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-V.A, has joined him as a co-sponsor of that measure.
Several weeks ago, conservative reporter Lester Kinsolving, asked Robert Gibbs why the president would not “respond to the petition to requests of 400,000 American citizens by releasing a certified copy of his long-form birth certificate listing hospital?”
Outside political circles, but still within the national spotlight, the view is much more widely articulated. As late as two weeks ago, for instance, Fox News was running a headline on its website, asking: “Should Obama Release Birth Certificate? Or Is This Old News?” On Wednesday morning, moreover, talk show host Rush Limbaugh sardonically compared President Obama to God, noting that, “God does not have a birth certificate either.”
Remarks like these aren’t inherently violent. They can be picked up, however, by individuals who are.
“I think it is perfectly obvious that the birther movement has gained a large following on the radical right,” said Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center. “It may have emerged form the right wing of the Republican Party. But the reality is that it has been adopted by the most noxious elements out there and certainly John Von Brunn represents that element.”

Yes they are wearing some1,s underwear, but you fail to understand, not every1 is a terrorist and i am not saying every1 is. That most people are reasonable. We are having a debate and both of us realize that life goes on.
I can not stand a word Rush spews and he has a right to spew and no1 has a right to kill him for his opinions. I will not wear his underwear (funky) !!!!

Why are you so against something that makes perfect sense. Constitution says you have to be a natural born citizen to be POTUS…why is it so dangerous to ask that it be proved?
and remember, I’m satisfied that Obama is a natural born citizen.

Exactly, what we have been saying all along. Dubya initiated this whole TARP mess, Obama just took the lead and ran and ran and ran……
There has never been a need for this TARP or stimulus at all.
What we have, now, however, is all the downsides of spending this money with none of the upsides.

Ok, so let me get this straight, a white supremacist sits in his trailer, most of the time, or it can be in a crappy appartment in the area where a normal human being won’t usually step foot, on welfare or having some sort of a low level job, and screams out that he or she doesnt like: Immigrants,Jews, muslims, black, basically anyone who is not of WASPIC nature…….
I will perform a little stereotyping, please forgive me, but I just have to:
lets take Immigrants for instance,
Asians: Run grocery stores, fresh produce stores, wake up at the crack of dawn, work their tales off….
Geeee white supremacists, lets send them back, I am sure you wont mind working 15-20 hour days…..
I can find anything hard working and valuable about any race or ethnicity that can not be replaced by lazy bums who generally do not have any education.
So what is White Supremacy?!?!?! – It’s an idiotic expression of boredom. People, get jobs, occupy yourselves with something!!!!!!!!!!!
