Palin’s Top Two List About Letterman: “Disgusting” And “Pathetic”
Sarah Palin is calling some of David Letterman’s jokes “disgusting” and “pathetic.”
Letterman joked Monday night that during the seventh inning of the Yankees game “her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez.”
Letterman followed up on the line Tuesday night, joking that “the toughest part of her visit was keeping [former New York Gov.] Eliot Spitzer away from her daughter.”
Letterman also did a “Top Ten List” of things Palin did in New York. One of them was “bought makeup at Bloomingdale’s to update her ’slutty flight attendant look.’” Palin reacted to that with radio host John Ziegler.
Of course, David Letterman happens to be a comedian. Comedians sometimes go over the line. It’s not like a senator (McCain) making a joke like, “Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno.” Or Ted Nugent using foul language to viciously denigrate elected officials and claiming he was doing comedy. The best thing Palin could have done would have been to laugh it off.

Sarah palin is George W. Bush in woman’s clothing…
Thank God she lost the VP spot.
she is a disgrace and always will be.
I feel sorry for the residents of Alaska who have to endour her stupidity and childish talk 24/7.
Palin go back to Alaska and stay there!

Alan, I’m going to go to the chase here, not going to mention about her daughter. What if the same guy said your wife was looking for the “slutty flight attendant look.” Would you not want to reach through his chest and grab a hand full of backbone and just filet the sissy? maybe not.

I have no problem with the jokes about Palin. I don’t find most of them funny but they don’t bug me. She put herself in the public spotlight and that just comes with the territory. I feel bad for daughter though. She has enough to deal with and I do find some of the jokes about her rather distasteful.

Erm, no – the best thing would not be for a parent to laugh at jokes about old dudes knocking her young daughter up.
I really can’t stand Palin, but defending her daughter is not something I am going to criticize her for.
Letterman is an a$$ for making these jokes, her daughter didn’t ask to be thrust into the limelight, and Palin offers plenty of opportunities to poke fun at PALIN, not her daughter.

TDro you must be more observant. All presidential nominees bring their families, children included, up on stage at their national conventions. It is common practice. If that now makes it fair game to crack jokes or attact the candidates children then let the games begin with the Obama children. How does that sound?
The pervert Letterman, age 62, made a SICK joke about a girl, age 14, being “knocked up” by an adult. Hate speech anyone? Remember what happened to Imus? Same should now happen to Letterman.
GuidoVanHorn Reply:

Daddio,
I think you are blowing this a bit out of proportion. They were funny jokes, in line with what David Lettemen has done for the past 30 years.
He has stated that the jokes in question were about Bristol not Willow (joking about an adult is different than a minor) he apparently didn’t know which daughter was in NYC.
Hate speech??? are you kidding?
Daddio Reply:
June 11th, 2009 at 7:32 am
Hate speech–just echoing what the left would scream if that joke was told by a conservative like Rush, who is also a comedien, about a liberal icon’s daughter.
Jokes like that, especially about a 14 year old girl is not only distasteful but way out of line. Isn’t there enough young girls in this country becoming pregnant. Then we have some hack comedien telling a sick joke about an adult male “knocking up” a minor child.
I don’t buy his lame excuse about thinking it was Bristol at the game. He knew who was with Sarah. You bet he knew. He just didn’t think there would be this bruhaha because of who he is.
I completely disagree with you on this one Guido.
But I still like you. :)

oh well thanks for liking me..
why descend to the oppositions level? IF you think that joke about X person or group is funny, why be offended and feign outrage if X person is someone you like or sympathize with. All comedy is offensive to something or someone because it makes light of defincies of nature.
Do you watch Letterman? everything he said is completely in line with jokes he’s been telling for 30 years. He’s made fun of more people left or right, white or black (and hispanics too) than just about anyone. That is what he does, and gets paid handsomely to do it.
I’ll take him at his word that the jokes were directed toward Bristol (and honestly the jokes make more sense if you assume that…seems logical)
Daddio Reply:

Leno’s jokes are funny, and he doesn’t have to stoop to what I consider rape jokes about a minor.
I do like good political jokes…about politicians. My point is that politicians children should NEVER be the butt of political jokes. Conservatives were criticized when they did it liberals should be criticized also. Jokes about politicians children, either by the left or right is out of line. In my book.
Look at what happened to John McCain when he joked about Chelsea Clinton. I thought that joke was out of line also.
LEAVE THE CHILDREN OUT OF THIS. Of course unless that child is over 18 and publiclly injects themselves into a campaign. My only exception.
I have watched Letterman and he just doesn’t impress me. I really like Johnny Carson. He would keep me rolling on the floor with laughter. I like Leno very much also. That’s about it though. How about Dick Caveat? I kinda liked him.
GuidoVanHorn Reply:
June 11th, 2009 at 9:11 am
Here’s where we differ. I think Letterman is funnier than Leno (not that Leno isn’t funny, he’s great, but if I’m ever up that late in front of a tv I find myself on Letterman not Leno for the most part)
Now that Conan and Letterman are competing I have a harder task in deciding. Conan is even more infantile than Letterman (which in my infantile brain equates to being funnier)
I barely remember Carson, so I can’t give an intellectually honest opinion of him, but the man was a titan in the industry and deserves all the praise and accolades that anyone has ever heaped upon him.
Caveat???? was that in the 40’s?
And I’m going to differ…I think kids are fair game the second they land on the podium. But statutory rape jokes simply aren’t funny…but I don’t think Dave was talking about Willow, so his joke was still funny.
GuidoVanHorn Reply:

He swears he didn’t know!
He’ll return the money!
How’s that effort to attract Hillary Supporters going now?
Clayton Williams, a frequent GOP donor who not only donated $300,000 to McCain but also was scheduled to hold a fundraiser for McCain in his home town of Midland, Texas.
But instead, the fundraiser is off and McCain is promising to return the $300K after someone — who apparently is skilled at using the Google — did a little background check on good ole boy Clayton Williams and discovered that during an unsuccessful run for Governor of Texas in 1990 against Ann Richards, Williams compared being raped to the weather, and said “As long as it’s inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it.”
The left LOVES Sarah Palin, it’s the GOP who is terrified of her.

So what was supposed to be done about slavery? Allow it? I’m not saying it was fought chiefly over slavery, but what was to be done? Talk about it while black people are being persecuted and enslaved? Harrumph about it and talk about how bad it is?
Sometimes wartime killing is necessary to correct a moral wrong. Sad but true. What should have been done about Germany in WWII? Let the Holocaust go on and the world be taken over by Hitler? Seriously…I’d like to hear what your plan for dealing with that would be.
You make very valid points about war being overused, including the Iraq War to an extent. But the idea that ALL war can be (or even should be) avoided is a little extreme I think. I respect the fact that (for born humans) you believe in non-violence but I don’t see how it is workable in the real world.
TDro319 Reply:
June 11th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
I’m a pacifist. I don’t believe in violence, but I know that some wars were necessary, like WWII for example – but not these two. Just as I know some abortions are necesssary.
I think war should be avoided at ALL COSTS. If that means a stronger diplomatic stance with other countries, so be it. And I personally don’t buy this right wing BS that we should “kill first, ask questions later” (I think you refer to it as the “Bush Doctrine”). I am against any killing of innocent people.
I attended a funeral a few years back. My neighbor’s son was killed in Iraq. The parents were devastated. Now think about that for a minute. You give birth to a child. For 19 years, you raise him, love him, teach him right from wrong, you celebrate him – and then he’s killed. His parents were inconsolable, and rightly so.
And you tell me abortion is much worse than war???? I beg to differ. Have you no conscious? Are you devoid of human emotion? The death of a 19 year old is of less consequence than the death of a fetus? I’m sorry, but I don’t buy it. I’m not that heartless.
That being said and being a bleeding heart liberal and an EXTREME pacifist, I’m pretty disappointed that Obama is not doing enough to end these wars. Nothing would please me more than to see our troops come home – alive and in one piece. I think they would be better served defending our country rather than fighting in wars started by old chickenhawks.
June 10th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
though Letterman’s jokes were in poor taste, they were funny, so I can overlook that.
But I do think it’s cheesy and somewhat inappropriate to attack a minor on national television, but it was funny, so again I can overlook that.
The problem is that Dave is very open about his distaste for Palin (and republicans in general)and sometimes it feels like his jokes aren’t actually jokes but personal attacks. In which case it starts to borderline on mean and not funny.
That’s why comediens should never make their political views blatantly known. and if they do, they need to take precaution to make sure they make fun of the other side as well.
Jon Stewart is a flaming liberal, but he’s still funny, because he’ll make fun of anyone, anywhere, anytime, you never have to ask…was that personal? And he says stuff way worse than Palin has a slutty look.

I like Letterman and watch his show from time to time.
But I don’t like this joke or that he went there.
Only because I have a rule:
Leave the family out of it.
It is simple.
If I was in public life then all the public can tear me apart and tear through my background.
But you come after my family … after my sisters … after my former / current lovers …
You get ready to stand in a court room. Because I’m going to destroy you.
So that’s my take on it.
We all can rip and scheme and lie away in the politics game; but you bring the family into the mix and I say all the rules go out the window.
I have lots of interesting things to blog about with the family members of Republicans … I wouldn’t do that. Address the person at hand, address the issue at hand.
And like Alan points out, Letterman is a comedian. It’s not like he is running a campaign against Palin. He made his joke. Now it’s over. I wish he hadn’t but he did and here we are.
