On Thursday’s Radio Show…

June 11th, 2009, 6:00 PM EDT

• Alan explains how the Holocaust Museum shootout proves that conservative outrage over the DHS right-wing extremism report was unjustified.

• An anonymous abortion provider, who was a colleague of Dr. George Tiller, tells Alan why he plans to continue performing late-term abortions in Kansas.

• Do some of Alan’s callers need to learn some old-fashioned manners? Etiquette expert Robin Abrahams, author of Miss Conduct’s Mind over Manners, analyzes Alan’s conversations with listeners.

  1. “Do some of Alan’s callers need to learn some old-fashioned manners?”

Some of them need to be deprived of pointy objects.

  2. I hope Alan can also comment on the prejean firing.

  3. Anencephaly is one of the FEW instances where late-term abortion might be actually indicated.

I will respect Alan and the doctor’s wishes BUT I know that both Fox News and the internet has made this guy’s name available.

By the way, I think life begins at 2 years. Isn’t that my right? Give me a break. It’s not a damn religious belief.

    flap Reply:

Or, I should say, it is not exclusively a religious belief. Human rights.

    flap Reply:

So the doctor said that only the woman knows when personhood begins? Shouldn’t she have that right after delivery as well?

He also mentioned the decision is like jumping off the Empire State Building. I’d say throwing your BABY off the Empire State Building.

Sheesh. Oh, what a hero, doing God’s work. Give me a break. Anencephaly and holoprosencephaly are basically BABIES WITHOUT BRAINS. Those conditions are (generally, though there are exceptions) NOT compatible with life. If those were the only instances of late-term abortions, I don’t think anyone would care.

The guy’s voice even annoyed me.

  4. Anencephaly is one of the FEW instances where late-term abortion might be actually indicated.

I can’t speak for Flap, but it seems as if there is a huge misunderstanding here.

I know of very very very few people who are “pro-life” 100% total opinion no abortion.

In fact, most people I know acknowledge instances where the choice Ought be afforded the woman:

    1. Victim of crime
    2. Health of baby/mother

What the vast vast vast majority of “pro-lifers” are against are the convenience abortions.

Is it possible that we have been talking past other in all of this?

    GuidoVanHorn Reply:

I don’t think so…many pro-choicers disagree with any restrictions on abortion, which tells me they are cool with the convenient abortions.

  5. You know what makes me smile? Convinces me that the left has over reached and are realizing that, “huh, maybe we are just a bit crazy”?

    No one is fighting back.

There are no conservatives here spewing hate speech. Just plain, clear arguments, with data when demanded, and note a word form the left.

    Cricket cricket. Chirp.

    chirp?

  6. No abortion debate for me this morning.

But….Evan Thomas, editor of Newsweek, on Chris Matthews show the other day referring to Obama as God.

Thomas: “I mean, in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above the world. He’s sort of God.”

    Matthews: “Yeah”

Thomas: “He’s going to bring all different sides together”

So to all you liberals out there who say liberals don’t refer to Obama as the “blessed leader” Evan Thomas of Newsweek just exposed who the believe Obama is in the liberal mind.

Just thought I’d throw this in.

  7. Can “The Alan Colmes Show” do something about the second caller, in the first hour, from Thursday, June 11? (I do not know his name.)

… Like hang up once Alan recognizes the caller’s voice?

He is the one who — after the election (or around the time of Inauguration Day) of President Barack Obama — referred to First Lady Michelle Obama as a “bitch.” Yes, this is the same male caller who claims he cannot believe the results of Election 2008.

His routine is to go on some embittered — and obscene — rant that that is repetitious. One knows what he will say the moment that call begins.

This guy has been calling for some time — freeloading and peddling his “angry” (as Alan has described him) schtick — which may or may not be real (it doesn’t matter!) — and this is a regular caller with nothing new or substantial to offer.

It’s sad to listen to someone who has no life anb insists on reaching out to someone — anyone — about something — anything — that helps provide him relief.

I know there are some people who need others who are willing to listen. But all good and bad “relationships” must come to an end.

He is cut from the same cloth as Frederick, from Aurora, Colo. — and, yes, he is a loser! (Real or not.)

  8. “Just plain, clear arguments…”

Sadly no. From the “right” it’s just the same old same old. Whether you vomit it up with bile or whisper it sweetly, it smells just as rank. Like the remains of your spiritual brethren the dinosaurs.

  9. Mrs. Conduct:

Robin Abrahams is not a real expert. She is an anecdotal blah-blah machine.

Don’t let her tell you different.

I say this only to make a point.

Politics is ugly, always was and always will be. Full of people who demean you no matter how much have achieved in your life and how much you know about the topic. A place where passions dictate most the dialogue and liars keep a larger crowd than the courageous can ever establish.

I question if she can maintain her ‘conduct’ in the face of personal slanders, bigotry directed at her beliefs and degrading her professional character.

It’s very easy to talk about ‘etiquette’ when you stand nine miles above everyone down in the muck. It’s harder to stand there and listen to people insult your faith, your nation and your personal life. (Notice Robin completely ducked the abortion issue.)

I have no degrees, and nothing for credibility unless you gave it to me. But I study people, just like Robin does.

And in my observation most people are arrogant. Arrogant in their manners or arrogant outside their manners. But I’m being ’rude,’ aren’t I?

Maybe the truth is rude. Maybe the real world is vapid of etiquette.

    Because it’s full of people.

I offer an alternative explanation. I offer to you that this method of conducting yourself relies on removing your true feelings and your true self from the discussion. To remain ultimately reserved and withheld from others while in public and then finally letting the flood-gates loose once you are surrounded by friends and family.

I call this a Humanist perspective. There is no excuse for partisanship and other forms of hatred. There is no argument that makes slander and other forms of propaganda.

But I still maintain it is entirely unrealistic to discuss politics in a serious manner and remain entirely ’polite’ in the process. Unless of course you have absolutely no personal investment in what you speak of.

I believe the answer lies in the middle, not the extreme. To be human is be flawed and to be honest with ourselves is the better way to be.

To come before one another as we are. Flawed, angry and often rude.

The essence of grace is the nature of humility. Those who cannot admit they are wrong, no matter who they may be, are the ones in violation of Human Etiquette. If I could know the hearts of others I’d point them out for you.
