Another Letterman Apology
Viewers of Monday’s “Late Show” will see David Letterman apologize again for his joke about Sarah Palin’s daughter.
On Monday’s edition of “Late Show,” Letterman explains that the risque joke thought by some to have targeted Palin’s underage daughter, Willow, was actually intended for 18-year-old daughter Bristol. The name of the daughter wasn’t mentioned in the joke, which was part of Letterman’s monologue on last Monday’s show. “It’s not your fault that it was misunderstood,” he tells his audience.
“It’s my fault.” And he says he’ll try to do better.
Will this finally silence his critics?

Viewers of Monday’s “Late Show” will see David Letterman apologize again for his joke about Sarah Palin’s daughter.
Well, apparently much more of this is being made than should be (there are times I am very happy to be out of reach of the news bitz programs) – but assuming he actually apologizes today, as opposed to the 8 minute comedy bit you last week referred to as an ‘apology’ that Palin should ‘graciously accept’, it will be his first public apology over the matter.
So saying he will ‘apologize again’ is misleading, as it suggests he has already apologized.
June 15th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
Yeah last week’s statement is better described as an “explanation,” and given all the free PR that Palin and her radical rightwing cronies have gotten it should be Palin expressing her thanks to good ole Dave.

The Letterman/Slutty Palin controversy is old news.
The faux Republican outrage over dissing Slutty Palin has exceeded it’s shelf life and it’s time to put it out with the trash, freeing America to move on to the next faux Republican controversy …
[ Cue fresh controversy: ]
… “CIA Director Leon Panetta says former Vice President Dick Cheney’s criticism of the Obama administration’s approach to terrorism almost suggests “he’s wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point.” …
Panetta says Cheney is wishing for a new terrorist attack on the USA? Apologize, Panetta!!! Or, BE FIRED!!! NOW!!! ARGH!!!!!

You aren’t paying attention to the faux controversy.
Slutty Palin would be the (slutty flight attendant dressing) politician/mother, although you could make a good case for the unmarried elder daughter with child too.
It’s a family affair.
Palin (in real life) is a cartoon character. She’s all over the news in her cartoon voice expressing her faux outrage over the faux controversy.

Letterman put his foot in his mouth..big deal.
He will take the high road of humility & apologize. That’s nice.(I’ll be listening to Alan Colmes Show tonight because his show is far superior in all respects).
Palin, on the other hand has repeatedly demonstrated the art of placing both feet in her mouth (not to worry..plenty of room even with her shoes on) and races over the spin-bridge to nohwere.
Who wins the debate? Not the American people. As one, I am sick of hearing about it!!!
Maybe just maybe, behind the scenes of it all, the Repubs have nothing of substance to say after 8 years of total bs & screwing up this country so badly it will take at least a decade to fully recover. WHO REALLY should be apologizing??

And I COMPLETELY disagree with the “fire David Letterman” campaign. It’s similar to what happened with Imus, which was dead wrong.
Letterman tilts to the left but he’s not a hardcore “left-winger.” As he said, he tries to get cheap laughs, right or wrong.

How much good will it do for Letterman to apologize to the Palins for their faux outrage?
How much good would it have done for the commies to apologize to the Nazis for “setting” the 1933 Reichstag fire?
Sometimes, an apology isn’t really what they’re looking for. Sometimes, the aggrieved have something bigger in mind than a simple apology.

“It’s not your fault it was misunderstood’ he tells his audience.” THAT’S AN APOLOGY???
Trent Lott actually apologize a dozen times, and it still was not accepted. He then had to give up his majority leader position.

“I would like to apologize, especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke. I’m sorry about it and I’ll try to do better in the future,” Letterman told the studio audience….
“I thought I was telling it about the older daughter being at Yankee Stadium. And it was kind of a coarse joke. There’s no getting around it, but I never thought it was anybody other than the older daughter, and before the show, I checked to make sure in fact that she is of legal age, 18. Yeah. But the joke really, in and of itself, can’t be defended.”
If that doesn’t satisfy you, then nothing will. And nothing will satisfy you, because you do not wish to be satisfied. You want to stew and wallow in your gall, bitterness, and hate. Keep the fires of faux outrage burning!

It’s – not – their – fault that their mother has no brains nor self-control.

Conan O’Brien said, “Saturday night, Sarah Palin is going to drop the first puck at the Philadelphia Flyers’ hockey game. Then Palin will spend the rest of the game trying to keep the hockey players out of her daughter’s penalty box.”

[...] We’ve already seen that when Jay Leno told a similar joke to David Letterman’s it was virtually ignored. And why didn’t this skit get the level of attention that David Letterman’s joke did? On “Saturday Night Live” last September, the premise was that New York Times reporters were trying to find out of Todd Palin was having sex with his daughters. Of course, the joke was aimed at the Times, but the level of outrage doesn’t come close to the Letterman flap. [...]
