Limbaugh Says He’ll Send Sotomayor And Her Club “A Bunch Of Vacuum Cleaners”

June 19th, 2009, 10:27 AM EDT

Because Sonia Sotomayor is a member of a women’s group, it must be a gathering of domestic helpers, according to Rush Limbaugh. The comment, “I think I’m going to send Sotomayor, and her club, a bunch of vacuum cleaners to help them clean up after their meetings,” is followed by a self-satisfied smile.

Did I ever hear Mr. Limbaugh or any other conservative mock the highly successful men who are members of the Bohemian Grove, the male-only group upon which Sotomayor’s group is based?

Responses to this post...

  1. Rush Limbaugh is a sexist idiot. Who knew?

  2. I’d say his is more a misogynist creep than a sexist idiot.

  3. One question Alan. Why do you think would Ms. Sotomayor who did say, “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life,” remember that one? I wonder since she is a member of the Belizean Grove which you say is based on the Bohemian Grove why she would join a group that has based its self on a group started by bunch of white males? I would think that she could reach a better conclusion, don’t you? Besides, maybe they do need some vacuum cleaners?

Just skip all that fancy reasoning and cut right to the chase:

Just accept yourself for you are are and say: “Go back to the kitchen, damn whore!”

Then you’re exactly like Limbaugh. One more woman-hater.

    You’re projecting again, Eric.

What she’s saying is she can relate to poor people better than somebody who has been raised in a rich neighborhood by rich parents. There’s nothing racist or wrong about her comments.

In that case I would have to say that I have at least one in common with Ms. Sotomayor.

Was she raised poor? I hadn’t heard anything about her economic history – being Latina does not equal poor (I’m not saying you think that, I am certain you do not – I’m just commenting that her comments say nothing about her economic background).

    TDro319 Reply:

    From Hispanic Business.com:

“Sotomayor, a 54-year-old woman of Puerto Rican descent who rose to prominence despite being raised poor in the Bronx, was appointed by President Clinton to the seat she currently holds on the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.”

    Um Cara Reply:

After I typed that, I looked up her background – I read she was raised in a tenement, and it sounds like she had a great mom who emphasized education.

I think she’d make a great DA, an excellent neighbor, fantastic role model, etc..

But I’m hoping for a miracle and that she will not be confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice.

She will be a disaster for civil liberties.

    Daddio Reply:

Is that the court where “policy is made” TDro?

    Sotomayor’s words, not mine.

    flap Reply:

TDro: “What she’s saying is she can relate to poor people better than somebody who has been raised in a rich neighborhood…”

Sotomayor: “Wise Latina woman…her experiences…would…reach a better conclusion…white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

That’s not racist? I saw nothing about “rich white man.” Funny how libs label people as racists for being jerks and making insensitive jokes, but when someone really DOES say something about one race being superior, it’s ignored. Switch out “Latina woman” with “white man” and let a white person say it.

“Wise white man…his experiences…would…reach a better conclusion…Latina woman who hasn’t lived that life.”

Come on. It shouldn’t disqualifier her, but she misspoke…BADLY. She should have said:

“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white man [SOMEONE] who hasn’t lived that life.”

Why WHITE MAN? Alan loves to use the term “bigot,” so I’ll say that it’s a bigoted, racist statement. Do I believe Sotomayor is a racist? Heck no. But her statement was out of line.

    TDro319 Reply:

    Flap:
That is what I took from her comment. If you want to read something “racist” into it, that’s your prerogative. I wouldn’t be surprised.

    TDro319 Reply:

By the way, Flap. Why not look at Limbaugh’s remarks? It seems you only find fault with latina women and blacks, but give the racist Limbaugh a pass. Interesting.

    flap Reply:

Limbaugh isn’t a Supreme Court nominee, he’s an radio entertainer. I find it fascinating that you find the two comparable. Interesting.

The “racist” Limbaugh a pass? If Limbaugh is racist because of racially insensitive comments he makes that you don’t like, then by that same standard Sotomayor is a racist.

Vacuum cleaner…is that a racist remark? That’s a sexist remark, perhaps, but it’s an all-women’s group. It’s called humor.

Find fault with only Latina women and blacks? I didn’t even mention anything about blacks. Playing the race card again, TDro?

    TDro319 Reply:

” Playing the race card again, TDro?”

No, but it sure seems you are. EXPECT you to read something “racist” into her statements. I would be pleasantly surprised if you actually said something nice about her – but I won’t hold my breath.

  4. “Did I ever hear Mr. Limbaugh or any other conservative mock the highly successful men who are members of the Bohemian Grove, the male-only group upon which Sotomayor’s group is based?”

No, because men are perfect and wonderful (as long as they are white and Christian) in Limbaugh’s eyes and women are evil creatures lurking in the night.

  5. I don’t know if Limbowel is a sexist/misogynist idiot and creep, but certainly he’s styling his radio show so that it appeals to sexist/misogynist idiots and creeps.

In other words, he wants the core republikkkan audience.

  6. Take him off the air.

    Daddio Reply:

Liberals only have tolerance and compassion within their own cabal. They have proven that time and again here.

So liberals claiming to have tolerance and compassion is an empty claim.

TDro, maybe you ought to clean off your glasses…ROCKY is the one threatening violence. For a pacifist you’re certainly defending those who advocate violence an awful lot.

    TDro319 Reply:

You gave him the suggestions, Flap. Not me. And if I needed advice on how to kill, torture or hurt another human being, I most certainly would consult a conservative. They’re the experts.

Is that really want you want to hear? Cause I know folks like that and uh …. they are pretty hard to talk to sometimes.

Always worried about somebody ‘harshing their groove’ with ‘bummer reality.’ I hope your not saying you’d rather hear from the full-blown hippie of the century types. That would really confusing to hear a conservative begging to talk with super-hippies.

  7. I wonder if Rush is a closet case.

  8. After sending them a bunch of vacuum cleaners, Rush would naturally then be inclined to pick one and ask her to find him some Oxy?

Actually it’s a refreshing change from the standard violence against liberals by conservatives.

Gee, I wonder if you remember the murder of Tommy Burks (D) by Byron Looper (R) for political purposes.

Yep. You gotta love those republican/conservative values.

    flap Reply:

    “Standard violence…”

Uh, where’s the standard violence other than that anecdote? On this thread ALONE there are two posts that imply violence against multiple conservatives.

Since you people on the left are supposed to be more pacifistic, what’s the deal? We’re all evil and warmongering on the right…shouldn’t we be the only ones encouraging violence?

    TDro319 Reply:

We ARE pacifists, but we’re not perfect. When we have people like you or Jared trashing us on a daily basis (well maybe not you as much as Jared), we prefer to verbally express our displeasure rather than act on it.

You’d be safer in a room full of liberals than in a room full of conservatives. We may talk a big game (eg. “I’d like to kick Rush’s ass”), but unlike conservatives, we rarely act on it.

And then he goes to one of his Hispanic maids who he entrusts with HIS vacuum cleaners to get more oxycontin for his drug addiction. This is how he relates to women.

Maybe something to do with the fact that he is the leader of the Republican Party and the media is owned by Republicans. Perhaps that also explains why no-one in the media is asking the obvious questions about his paedophila when seemingly everyone knows about it! Same thing with Drudge and his bizarre behaviour with pre-teen boys – i.e. covering them in raw eggs and then licking it off.

Ah, you see, I think this is the problem on both sides. I think “Sound-byte Logic” drives the Republicans these days but it’s never, ever, been something isolated into one group or another.

Heck! I do it! I get mixed up and think something is so … then I read more about the case online and off and find the truth.

I would say the worst sound-byte bastard is Bill O’Reilly. But they all do it.

Rush Limbaugh throws out these sound-bytes of sexism or guised racism or whatever and people just lap it up on both sides.

The left goes nuts and the right smiles real big.

    That’s what I see.

Epiphany, Rush is an entertainer and part of why he says stuff like the vacuum cleaner statement is to piss liberals off.

And it works. You all get aggravated and wonder why he’s so successful. He’s a brilliant entertainer, commentator, and comedian. Second of all, a lot of what he says has a lot of truth to it. Of course he spins things. Of course he says things that are half-truths. Alan, in my opinion, does the same thing. But it’s politics. There’s a lot of spin, opinion, and “shading” the truth.

I don’t believe Rush is sexist but I think he says insensitive stuff that gets the media and libs to think that. He has a TON of conservative female listeners. If he truly were sexist, he wouldn’t have the huge audience he has. And when he used the term feminazis, he went overboard but was only talking about CERTAIN feminists, not all of them. Again, if he was anti-woman, he couldn’t hold an audience of the millions of conservative women he holds.

I don’t listen to him much anymore, but I used to a few years ago.

Failed marriages aren’t something to be proud of, but maybe he was a decent husband. I tend to think he was or you would have heard differently from one of his former wives.
