GOP Disappointed That Oppo to Sotomayor Isn’t Bringing In the Bucks

June 22nd, 2009, 11:00 AM EDT

Forget about whether the Sotomayor nomination is good for the court and for the country, the GOP is disappointed that she’s not a political lightening rod, as that’s what raises money.

“She doesn’t have the punch out there in terms of fundraising and recruiting, I think — at least so far,” said Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), who most likely will be elected as the No. 4 Republican in Senate leadership this week.

“I don’t think she’s the kind of person that invites that kind of reaction,” said Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) of the possibility of making major political gains over Sotomayor’s nomination. “I don’t think her judicial record warrants the ability to do that with her.”

Oh, so that’s what the opposition to Judge Sotomayor is about: how Republicans can use this to fill coffers.

This current Republican crop desire failure and controversy. This is not an assumption on my part, it is stated position. See the attached link.

  2. So obviously not even the republikkkan party faithful believe that Sotomayor is a racist.

Limbowel looks like a bucket of fail.

    A bucket of fail !!

That is a very cool way to put it. It is so difficult to be civil concerning these…….folks.

  3. believe that Sotomayor is a racist.

What makes you think that she isn’t?

“What makes you think that she isn’t?”

Simple Rovian theory. Accuse your enemy before someone prosecutes you. Therefore Sotomayor is no more a racist than Jesus Christ.

And there are probably passages in the “bible” that PROVE BEYOND ALL DOUBT that Sotomayor is NOT a racist. She may well have been sent to us by God to save us from racists.

Well, what makes you think that I don’t think you’re a racist?

Or the whole right wing as a complete group, all of them. All racists.

    What makes you think otherwise?

They vote against the rights of minorities and allow racists to go unchecked in the media carrying their brand-name.

Rocky got it on this one.

Rovian-Blood Politics … declare your enemy as an evil and immoral monster before they can speak their own mind.

To make a claim like “Sotomayor is a racist” you have to show me something other than a stupid sound byte clip of a single comment. It’s just a right wing smear campaign against her and the people buying into it are only proving how little they read and how little they care to inform themselves on the reality of our nation.

another cracker jack fact check from Ericg…what were the vote numbers on the Civil Rights Act…what’s that you say, more republicans than democrats voted for it?

Turn off the lights, quick, hide…right wing extremist are coming to get your momma!

Man on man, Rocky and Eric have gone completley Bat-Shit-Crazy.

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

  4. Accuse your enemy before someone prosecutes you.

So comments that she makes a better judge than a white man are what? Not racist comments?

    How about this:

I am better able to make judgments than you are because I am a Conservative and therefore have a better grasp of logic.

    Fair comment?

    EricG Reply:

    Sure. Why not?

I disagree with you. And on that topic I disagree with what Sotomayor said as well. But I disagree with Clarence Thomas when he said the EXACT same thing.

So show me the racism. You’re lost out in the rain on this one.

“I am better able to make judgments than you are because I am a Conservative and therefore have a better grasp of logic.”

Logic has a very specific meaning that doesn’t morph into whatever a conservative wants it to be.

Just like ‘common sense’ these words are thrown around but I never hear anyone actually interested in following this notion through.

Is it logical to assume the nature of another man’s mind?

It is logical to reject all recent history and accept fabricated versions of events?

I don’t see it that way. I could care less if you’re a Neo-Con Freak or a Super-Liberal. Don’t give a bean, good for you.

But if you, or anyone, brings illogical and unpatriotic nonsense to me I’ll tell you that you are walking with the demons and that’s all there is to it.

Illogical and hateful statements are not isolated to Republicans but if you give a close listen you’ll see what I’m talking about.

    Recent example:

I hear conservatives shamelessly mocking people who profess an admiration for Barack Obama and these same people express deep admiration for George W. Bush and if they had to hear the same disrespectful comments directed toward them they would surely fly into how awful and terrible the person putting them down is. Well … they are just as guilty, right now, of all the degrees of ‘Bush-Bashing’ except exchange ‘Bush’ for ‘Obama’ and on top of that they are mean-spirited and hypocritical about their own partisan hate.

In see nothing to respect in modern conservatives. Too much hate and communism … not enough logic and patriotism.

    “Neo-Con Freak or a Super-Liberal”

If you combine the two, do you get a Super Freak?

  5. This goes to show that right wing radio is not the central agent in American Politics like all the neo-con jocks want you to think.

If these hate-barkers had so much power then Sotomayor would have pulled in the big bucks while they lied and slandered her over the past weeks.

But in the end they are all talking to themselves and doing nothing but building up a strong racist, bigoted and potentially dangerous community of anti-Americans.

  6. The racist comments by LImbo and Newt turned off the donors?

  7. [...] Supreme Court: Sotomayor’s nomination didn’t rake in the cash for the GOP as they had hoped. [...]
