Revealed: E-mails Between Sanford and “Maria”

June 24th, 2009, 6:22 PM EDT

South Carolina’s The State newspaper has released a few excerpts of e-mails between Gov. Mark Sanford and “Maria, a woman in Buenos Aires, Argentina.”

The newspaper promises that the full e-mail exchange will be published in tomorrow’s edition. But the excerpts released so far include these details:

From Maria, 7/9/08:

“… You are my love … something hard to believe even for myself as it’s also a kind of impossible love, not only because of distance but situation. Sometimes you don’t choose things, they just happen… I can’t redirect my feelings and I am very happy with mine towards you.”

From Gov. Sanford, 7/10/08:

“… have been asked to spend it out in Aspen, Colorado with McCain – which has kicked up the whole VP talk all over again in the press back home… I could digress and say that you have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curve of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself) in the faded glow of the night’s light – but hey, that would be going into sexual details …”

  1. OK, this is voyeuristic and sick.

There is no need for this level of detail to be made public.

Yep, this is disgusting. I think Sanford should resign. But, I’m sure he won’t.

An aside…are politicians idiots? If you’re having an affair, are you stupid enough to think that e-mails won’t get out? They’re EXTREMELY easy to copy, save, etc. It’s pathetic. I guess that’s the only way the Guv could talk to his honey, though.

Phone calls can be taped, too…so you can only talk in person or in Morse code.

K: No kidding… ;-) But how does a newspaper gain access to emails that are otherwise private? Who intercepted, copied, etc… these emails so that they could be published?

    Um Cara Reply:

    Good question, actually.

    The woman scorned?

Probably not though… She probably doesn’t want the world to know what a cheeseball she married.

At any rate, I really don’t think this should be in the public domain, he has admitted to the affair – what purpose (other than titillation) does publishing these private emails serve?

K: It amazes me how you can so consistently miss a point, TD. No one needs to indulge themselves in the intimate private details of this man’s relationship with his girlfriend and they certainly need not be published in the newspaper.

I agree, there is nothing wrong with “moral family values”. But many conservatives are constantly walking around with halos over their head, implying that they’re so much more moral than the rest of us….turns out they’re often times the most immoral of us all!!!!!!

But hey…maybe we should be grateful he abandoned his family, abandoned his position of being governor of an entire state, and fly to Argentina to go visit his whore. I could be worse…he could have been soliciting gay male sex in public airport restrooms, texting sexual inappropriately comments to young boys or standing in front of the church preaching about the evils of homosexuality although afterwards that same preacher is caught buying meth with his gay prostitute lover.

Write to FOX News and other media agencies and tell them you feel as such. I personally don’t care. He is a Gov and subject to such things. If these were private emails of just some random person, then it has no business being public.

Inquiring minds want to know and the freedom of press should give it to them.

I ask you again, how many people died because Clinton lied? I can tell you how many people (approximately) died because Bush lied.

K prv: “Is this your standard for prosecution of the perjury laws, TD?”

TD: No, but you seem so intent on defending Bush for attacking Iraq based on lies, but have no problem going after Clinton for a BJ.

K: No, once again s l o w l y – Clinton perjured himself. That means he lied in court. Here, I’ve done the hard work of looking the term up in the dictionary: “Perjury – the offense of willfully telling an untruth in a court after having taken an oath or affirmation.”

K: TD, THIS is why Clinton was impeached – NOT because he was diddling interns under the desk in the oval office. Got it?

TD: I ask you again, how many people died because Clinton lied? I can tell you how many people (approximately) died because Bush lied.

    K: sigh….

    TDro319 Reply:

K: I’m familiar with the definition of perjury. Now if you think being impeached because he lied about sex with an intern is cause for impeachment, there’s definitely something wrong with your perception of values.

Since you have trouble understanding, I’ll lay it out for you:

Clinton – people who died because he lied: 0

Bush/Cheney – people who died because he lied the U.S. into an unnecessary war: 4000+ American soldiers and 100,000+ Iraqi citizens.

Sorry, I’ll take Clinton’s BJ over Bush’s slaughter anyday.

I believe his biggest offense was that he left the state for six days and no one really knew where he was.

K: With this I agree – in part. While I DO care whether or not my public servants uphold the most basic of laws – fidelity to their marriage – it is extremely hypocritical of any person to publicly make moralistic remarks about another while practicing the same immoral behavior. Having said that we need to find out whether Sanford was having an affair at the time of his remarks about Clinton to determine whether or not he was acting hypocritical at the time. We can judge his current hypocrisy by whether or not he subjects himself to the same standard he set for Clinton – stepping down from public office.

TD: So basically it’s okay that Sanford called out Clinton on his immoral behavior back then because he said it BEFORE he started his own affair? Give me a break!

K: Again, sigh…. Pay attention, TD. If Sanford was NOT having an affair when he criticized Clinton he was NOT a hypocrite, was he? Again, I’ll do your heavy lifting and look up the term for you: “Hypocrisy – the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one’s own behavior does not conform;’. Now, if his behavior DID conform to his beliefs at the time he castigated Clinton he wasn’t a hypocrite at the time – was he? He has NOW become a hypocrite IMO for not voluntarily stepping down from the office of governor because NOW his actions do not corrospond to his stated morals back then.

    TDro319 Reply:

K: Well thank God I have Kregg to lecture me on who’s hypocritical and who’s not. On who’s right and who’s wrong.

K: Here is a description of Sanford’s Argentinian ‘whore’ who ‘did it for the green card’ (according to some on this board):

    From Fox news:
The athletic brunette at the center of a media firestorm following South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford’s confession of an affair is a 43-year old Buenos Aires resident who lives in an upscale apartment building, FOXNews.com has confirmed.

Her name is Maria Belen Chapur, and local media in Argentina have identified her as Sanford’s mistress.

She lives in a 14-story apartment building next to the Buenos Aires Zoo, in a trendy neighborhood that is also near the U.S. Embassy.

A witness who works in the building described her to Buenos Aires Continental Radio as a beautiful brunette with big eyes who plays tennis on a nearby lawn and runs every morning in her neighborhood.

Terra Noticias reported that Chapur speaks several languages, including English, Portuguese and Chinese. It reported that Chapur works for Bunge y Born, but a representative for the agribusiness firm told FOXNews.com that is incorrect.
