Good News: Sanford Will “Try To Fall Back In Love” With Wife

June 30th, 2009, 6:16 PM EDT

Mark Sanford says Maria Belen Shapur is his “soul mate”, but that he is going to try to fall back in love with his wife.  Jenny Sanford must be thrilled to hear this.

Sanford also told The Associated Press he has ‘crossed lines’ with women other than Chapur, but never had sex with them.

Sanford said one of the trips to see Chapur included what was supposed to be a farewell meeting in New York chaperoned by a spiritual adviser soon after his wife found out about the affair.

Just what does “crossed lines” mean? I’m guessing he doesn’t mean he busted through protesting union organizers.  Does it mean he had dates? Made out with other women? And how soon before another one comes forward?

Barry Manilow had a hit with it; David Pomeranz wrote it.  Good luck, Governor!

  1. I wonder what he said as a marrage proposal,”Lets give this the old college try”

    lol!

  2. wow. thats mighty nice of him..*rolls eyes*

  3. Obviously, this is a guy who should take the best advice ever given to Sarah Palin: “Just shut up, idiot!”

    Daddio Reply:

You are such a nice guy Rocco.

  4. Good lord, why doesn’t this guy stop talking.

    EricG Reply:

    Yup, exactly!

His ‘media coach’ is just as bad as his ’spirtual advisor’ because he keeps digging himself a grave and Lindset Graham comes and tries to dig him out … but he just keeps on digging himself right back in…..

    Daddio Reply:

I think no matter how big a hole you dig you still have the right to keep talking. Refer to the first amendment.

    average james Reply:

Sometimes it’s just better to clam up.

The bottom is wherever you stop digging.

    Agreed.

  5. If his wife has any moxy she will just kick him to the curb.
Sorry honey, I had an affair. I love her, not you, but let’s try and work it out.

    CherylCarroll Reply:

i heard a sound bite of her a few days ago. she was asked abt sanfords next career move or smthing 2 that effect. she said, with a respectable amount of strength and disdain, that his career was the least of her concerns right now. i was proud of her.

id be even prouder if she held his balls 2 the fire like the wife of italys prime minister… them fiesty i-talians!

  6. Alan – what is your fascination with this guy? Should we bring up all the lies that John Edwards told about his infidelity? Or is that your next post? Enough already.

    Alan Reply:

John, you couldn’t help reading and posting, could you?

    John G. Reply:

Only to express my exasperation…surely there are better topics? Nothing on Stuart Smalley Goes To Washington?

    OldLefty Reply:

Who the heck is Stuart Smalley?

    Alan Reply:

Hey…I’m not one topic guy. Lots of other stuff here. But the Sanford story is fascinating on many levels, and I’m not talking about political party.

    Um Cara Reply:

Who the heck is Stuart Smalley?

He’s making fun of Al Franken, I guess. Which is an interesting story – filibuster proof Senate? (theoretically, since Democrats don’t tend to be of one mind in the same way as Republican politicians)

    OldLefty Reply:

    Oh.
    Is that a demeaning nickname?

    John G. Reply:

I was more making fun of the people who elected him…but don’t worry Alan, you’re good enough, smart enough, and, doggone it, people like you!

    GuidoVanHorn Reply:

Stuart Smalley was a character that Franken did on SNL…

He’d look in the mirror and give himself daily affirmations. “I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like me”

It was a great skit. I must say I’m a bigger fan of Al Franken comic and satirist than Al Franken politician.

    average james Reply:

Al Franken is allright with me.

I am anxious to see how he does in the senate.

It may turn out that I am a bigger fan of the satirist too, Guido.
I hope I end up a fan of both.

    TDro319 Reply:

Now just because Franken didn’t star in such blockbuster movies like “Bedtime for Bonzo” and “Bonzo goes to College”, is no reason for you to demean him, John.

    EricG Reply:

John – “what is your fascination with this guy? Should we bring up all the lies that John Edwards told about his infidelity?”

It’s news, face it. No way around it.

I only did one Sanford post and by the grace of the internet I could sixty more if I was a looney.

And I do talk about political party!

    http://ericlightborn.wordpress.com/2009/06/30/sanford-many-mistresses/

It’s called freedom of speech, and nothing in the world is stopping you from opening up a little ‘liberal hit piece’ blog so don’t whine th facts burn your little eyeballs!

Edwards, to me, was equally disgraceful and he actually resigned from the public arena unlike the disgraceful Mark Sanford.

    Daddio Reply:

“I only did one Sanford post and by the grace of the internet I could sixty more if I was looney.”–Eric.

I think you just called Alan Colmes “looney” Eric. I don’t think Alan is quite there yet. But he is trying.

  7. Try? What a jerk. Way to go family values party. Here is one of your leaders; trying to fall back in love with his wife.

    GuidoVanHorn Reply:

the wording sounds bad…but if he’s serious I applaud him. Marriages can be worked out if both parties are willing and able.

    Daddio Reply:

Forgivness is a virtue, something many liberals don’t understand. If he and his wife put God first in their lives this can and will work. But only if they do that first. God will see them through this.

    Let’s give them another chance.

Conservatives as well. With the Mark Stadford follies and i glad to hear some members of the GOP saying they are not saints. That they to reach out alot more and change their message.

    Daddio Reply:

Many conservatives are very upset over the Sanford ordeal. We had very high hopes for him as a possible candidate in 2012. But you never know what can happen in America. He could rebound big time. Clinton rebounded.

    steve Reply:

    Daddio

My java must be weak today. Forgetting to add words and letters. True about your post and the Sanford follies have some members of the GOP tossing the sainthood image by saying they are a party of sinners.

1 of the major hang ups i have with the GOP is the highjacking of GOD then you have Sanford acting like a sex craze teenager. That,s the major reason the GOP gets beat down more than the DNC on sex scandals.

Yes,Sanford can rebound, but the man needs to man up and man up quickly.

    Daddio Reply:

I guess the GOP has set the bar higher for Republicans then Dems have set the bar for Dems. But I don’t look at the GOP as “kidnapping God”. Many have called upon God and have later fallen. King David is an excellent example with his actions. Having an adultrous affair with Bathsheba and the murder of Uriah.

David prayed to God, was a follower of God but look how far he fell. But all turned out well for David. God forgave him. I wouldn’t say King David “kidnapped” God because of his political vision.

We are all sinners Steve. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

    steve Reply:

Uhhhhh…….. stealing the bar when it comes to GOD. I feel both parties have faith in GOD. My beef is ? Seperatoin of Church and State and if some members of the GOP had their way ,Seperation of Church and State would be abolish.

I have faith in GOD and my biggest fear is a goverment run church that is a danger that GOD is the final judgement not the goverment.

I don,t need something posted or a group rejected to have faith in GOD. Speding the word is fine but to force the word is not.

    Daddio Reply:

But I just explaind what Jefferson meant by his “wall of separation”. He meant for the states and the respective religions within the state to solve religious issues and for the federal government to stay out of church matters or religious matters. It seems the federal government is putting a big footprint into religious matters that Jefferson said were to be solved among the states.

Don’t fear a government run church Steve. I don’t believe it will ever happen. Liberals and conservatives don’t want that.

    TDro319 Reply:

“Forgivness is a virtue, something many liberals don’t understand.”

Sure we understand, Daddio. Just like the republicans “understood” about Clinton’s BJ.
Forgiveness is a virtue, something many conservatives don’t understand.

I don’t see a state run church happening either.

The greater danger, in my opinion, is a church run state.

  8. A much superior song captures Sanford’s dilemma. You’ve lost that lovin’ feelin’, now it’s gone, gone, gone, woo oh oh oh. (We Boomers remember it pre-Top Gun.)

  9. Jenny should leave this jerk.

She’s obviously too good for him.

This jackass has a spiritual advisor?

    Gimme a break.

  10. Nice;

So, you can all say hateful, smart-ass, remarks that cuts a man undergoing terrible life problems. I suppose you might use as justification what ignorant republicans said about fallen democrats.

It was wrong when the hate monger republicans said it, I only wish some liberals had the maturity to “change” and break the destructive cycle.

Is there a party of change?
I think not. At least in this country.

    EricG Reply:

“So, you can all say hateful, smart-ass, remarks that cuts a man undergoing terrible life problems”

Are you so understanding and compassionate when we are discussing the affairs of Democrats and not Republicans?

“Is there a party of change?
I think not. At least in this country.”

So says you. While one party fights for equality and social justice and the other only serves to hamper such goals … I say there is indeed a party of change. And we just put a president in office.

    Daddio Reply:

Helipilot is correct. This is actually out of control. To many on the left hate those on the right and to many on the right hate those on the left. When is this madness going to stop?

We are a country divided and a country divided is bound to fail. A country divided cannot stand.

One party claims to have all the answers while condemning the other party as getting in the way of progress. It doesn’t matter which party is in power.

Right now there is no party of change. There is no party willing to sit down with the other party and actually figure out the best solutions for America and all Americans.

So, maybe we should all get down off our high horse and take a good look in the mirror.

I think the change should start in 2010 where we do not send one incumbant back to Washington then continue that process in 2012.

    steve Reply:

    Daddio

Preach on brother, preach on. DC is has been on a stuck mode for the last 25 to 30 years. You tend to blame the left and the right i have issues with, but both parties stink and independents have a foul smell as well.

    GuidoVanHorn Reply:

we don’t have any true independents. The two that claim to be independents walk nearly lock step with the democrats.

    Daddio Reply:

Until we the voters send a knock out punch, like sending every one of them home for good, Washington politicians will NEVER change.

I could count on one hand the number of Congressmen/women who actually are there for all America and it’s citizens. I know you like Obama, but I don’t think he is there for us. I think it is a power trip to him. Biden is just a trip. :)

POWER is the name of the game in Washington. The longer you are in Congress the more power you obtain.

This destructive pattern has got to stop!!!

    steve Reply:

True Daddio and Guido, yes for the moment about independents, but independents are the main reason the GOP control the Whitehouse for 16 years.

    Daddio Reply:

And the reason Dems control everything now.

They have a HUGE BURDEN now and MUST produce. The ball is completely in their court.

  11. Gov. Mark Sanford — who has brought shame to the state of South Carolina and the Republican Party — needs to either resign … or be removed.

But, hey, maybe Sanford should remain in S.C. for political reasons. He can run for re-election in 2010. After a bitter Republican primary — win of lose (by however big or small a margin) — we could see a Democrat flip the governor’s mansion. And Sen. Lindsey Graham can screech like he’s … Back on Broadway. And most encouragingly, for Election 2012, the GOP would have to fight to retain S.C. on the way to 44th president Barack Obama’s landslide re-election.

No matter what happens with Sanford, there may be a silver lining to this cloud of an idiotic scandal … starring this elected-office-holding Republican hypocrite.

    libpatriot Reply:

Candy83, Sanford can’t run for re-election next year, because South Carolina has term limits for the governor’s office. Sanford has a year and a half at most to continue being governor.

It WOULD be entertaining to see the GOP try to hold on to South Carolina in the next presidential election, but I don’t see that happening. But hey, it’s a fun thought!

    libpatriot Reply:

Oops, I should clarify: “…but I don’t see that happening” means that I think South Carolina will go for the Republican presidential candidate in 2012, regardless of who that candidate is.

    Candy83 Reply:

That may very well be, libpatriot. After all, S.C. has given only “two” Democratic victories in five consecutive deades of the 1960s-2000s: 1960 John F. Kennedy and 1976 Jimmy Carter.

When Barack Obama wins re-election in 2012 he’ll do one of the following two: trade like “Monopoly” pieces with his GOP opponent (giving back Indiana for same-numbered electoral votes bellwether Missouri and Montana) — or he’ll be on his way to a 1972 Richard Nixon/1984 Ronald Reagan dominance and carry states you don’t ordinarily think could swing to the Dems. (Keep in mind: with exception of Woodrow Wilson, all two-term presidents won more electoral votes in their re-elections.)

Consider the 18-29 voting group (which Obama won by 34 points), the Latinos (won by Obama by 35/36 points), Women (won by Obama by roughly 55 percent; these two groups brought Indiana to Obama!) … the demos are shaping up where fewer identify with Republicans and all the GOP can hang their hopes on is the Rush Limbaugh-like Preaching to the Choir.

Look out not only for S.C. — which carried for George W. Bush in 2004 and John McCain by eight/nine points (50 percent shifted Democratic in the margin) — but also Texas, Arizona, Georgia, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and the first congressional district in Nebraska. (McCain lost half of George W. Bush’s 2004 margin, of 23 points, in Bush’s home state. It’ll generate 10 percent more in electoral votes, for Elections 2012, 2016, and 2020, and you’ll see it no longer a guarantee for Republicans.)

  12. I love bashing members of the GOP,however i am glad that member of that party are speaking out and saying they have short comings like every1 else.

I also like the message from some members of the GOP that they need to reach out and change their message as well.

I feel Stanford should stay in office despite disliking his polices. The man should man up and be a man as well.

  14. He did not have sex with those women. Just shared a good cigar.

  15. Eric,

There are so many eaten up with rage that they have lost touch with reality. The notion that there is one party for, “Equality and social justice and the other only serves to hamper such goals” just flies in the face of reality.

It was Republicans who led the charge in the south for racial and equality in the 50’s and 60’s and it was this same party that allowed the administration to spy on its citizenry in the 2000’s. It was the Democrat’s who led the charge for a nation to help it’s economically disadvantaged and disenfranchised and the same party who reneged on campaign promises to stop the spying on their citizens.

To place the term “evil” on one party (regardless of the party) because they disagree with you is, at the very best, childish and counterproductive to intelligent dialogue and cooperative problem solving with the nations best’s interests at heart.
