Latest Conservative Meme: Obama Is Continuing Bush Policies

Former UN Ambassador John Bolton is among those claiming Obama is a continuation of Bush. This is the new conservative tactic to attempt to diminish any accomplishments Obama may have.
At the same time Bolton tries to make that case, he claims our foreign policy is completely different. So, which is it? Can’t have it both ways. Bolton and his conservative allies may have forgotten that Obama just took office.
Despite the 2008 election, neither the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, nor international terrorism, nor the challenges of geostrategic adversaries have in any way diminished.

President Obama ranks quite high as a person (67%), not so high as an economic savior (yet), or on North Korea, but overall has a 61% approval rating in a new Gallup Poll.

Abdulhakim Muhammad told the Associated Press, “I do feel I’m not guilty” in the shooting of Pvt. William Andrew Long, who was killed, and Pvt. Quinton I. Ezeagwula, who was injured June 1 at a recruiting station in Little Rock. Muhammad believes US military activities in the Middle East justifies his actions, saying, “I don’t think it was murder, because murder is when a person kills another person without justified reason.”
Muhammad told the AP he admitted to his actions to police and said he was retaliating against the U.S. military.
“Yes, I did tell the police upon …

Scott Roeder, charged in the death of George Tiller, says similar acts violence are planned “as long as abortion remains legal.” Roeder called the Associated Press Sunday from the Sedgwick County jail to complain about conditions there. But he’s still in better shape right now than George Tiller.
“I know there are many other similar events planned around the country as long as abortion remains legal,” Roeder said. When asked what he meant and if he was referring to another shooting, he refused to elaborate. It was not clear whether Roeder knew of any impending violence or whether he was …

Newt Gingrich, at a GOP fundraiser, says Obama’s plan to fix the economy has “already failed.” It reminds me of how Republicans used to accuse Democrats of “talking down the economy” when the GOP was in power, only to do the same thing, even at the beginning of the Obama administration.
But according to former Bush Press Secretary Ari Fleischer, Gingrich may be a “fabulous dinner speaker, full of ideas and entertainment,” but will not be the Republican nominee in 2012. Fleischer also has backed off some of his earlier praise of Sarah …

Al Gore may be sent by President Obama to North Korea to negotiate the release of journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee (being remembered at vigil (r), in Santa Monica). Both reporters work for Gore’s Current TV. The State Department says it’s “a very, very sensitive” issue, and won’t discuss plans.
North Korea’s official news agency said the trial would begin by mid-afternoon Thursday, but nearly one day later, there was no word on the status of the proceedings. A State Department spokesman said American officials had seen no independent confirmation that the case was under way.
North Korea …

The former Assistant Secretary of Defense in the Reagan administration, who now runs the Center for Security Policy, at first claims he doesn’t mean it literally when he calls Obama “America’s first Muslim president”; he means it in the sense that Bill Clinton was the first black president.
But he doesn’t mean it as a compliment, either.
During his White House years, William Jefferson Clinton – someone Sonia Sotomayor might call a “white male” – was dubbed by an admirer in the African-American community “America’s first black president.” Applying the standard of identity politics and pandering to a …

Edward Lilly, a retiring board member New York State’s Lewiston-Porter school district, wants to get religious displays in the district’s four schools before his term is up. He says “it’s not a religious thing.”
“I think placing the Ten Commandments in each of our buildings will keep the board from doing things they have done in the past,” said Lilly, who has less than one month left in his term.
The board wants to waste its time looking into this, when the Supreme Court has already ruled that displaying the Ten Commandments is “purely religious.”
School Superintendent R. …
