Maria Belen Chapur Speaks

The woman with whom South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford had an affair speaks like an aggrieved party because of “certain incorrect things that are being spread worldwide” and causing “great pain to me…my two children, my family….”  Among other things, she writes:

1. I won’t speak about my private life as it just belongs to me. It has already been made too public during these last days, bringing to me even more pain.

Yes, that can happen when you have an affair with a married United States governor.

RIP Billy Mays

What’s with all the celebrity deaths?

Mays, [was] 50, start[ed] selling in the 1980s on the Atlantic City boardwalk. He went on to hawk the WashMatik, the Ultimate Chopper and then, crucially, OxiClean. On the Home Shopping Network and endlessly repeated infomercials and two-minute ads — the call-this-number-and-buy-it-now style of marketing known as “direct response…”

Meet The “World’s Ugliest Dog”

I don’t find Pabst ugly at all, but the boxer-mix won the title at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Northern California.  The dog’s owner got $1600, which might be used for dental work to fix that underbite.

Is Obama Bringing Enough Change?

One of the huge failings of BushCo was their policy of holding detainees indefinitely with no trials.  Word is that the Obama administration is preparing an executive order that would do the same thing.

…half of the cases (at Gitmo), the officials said, present the greatest difficulty because these detainees cannot be prosecuted in federal court or military commissions. In many cases the evidence against them is classified, has been provided by foreign intelligence services or has been tainted by the Bush administration’s use of harsh interrogation techniques.

Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold…

Former GOP Mayor Arrested For Indecency

Mark Musselwhite, the former mayor of Gainesville, GA, was booked on a”pubic indecency” misdemeanor charge after campers complained about a nude man waking around.

Ranger Brandon Walls wrote that Musselwhite appeared intoxicated and didn’t see anything wrong with being nude.

He told the ranger he’d just been swimming in a nearby creek and was hot.

Ranger Walls said Musselwhite put on some shorts when asked to get dressed, but he also became belligerent.

“He began telling me that he knew…

Michael Jackson’s Daily Cocktail: Can’t Stop ‘Till You Get Enough

Looks like the King of Pop was the King of Popping Pills, says the New York Post.

In addition to the mind-bending painkiller Demerol that the “King of Pop” took three times a day, he also took 3 milligrams of the overwhelming narcotic Dilaudid as well as Vicodin daily.

To add to the reality-altering effect of Demerol, Jackson also took a drug called Vistaril, which amplifies the narcotics’ effect, experts say.

Rounding out the staggering pharmacopia, Jackson scarfed down the muscle relaxant Soma, antidepressants…

Can Mark Sanford Please Stop Quoting The Bible

South Carolina’s governor continues to quote the Bible as he travels on his road to redemption.

The Republican governor, apologizing to state agency chiefs today for keeping them in the dark when he left for Buenos Aires for a rendezvous with his lover, told the Palmetto State’s Cabinet that King David will offer a guiding path for him.

King David fell mightily, the governor reminded his Cabinet, but picked up the pieces and built from there.

In his Thursday news conference, Sanford mentioned “God’s law” four times.
